the importance of learning history

  • The importance of history, be it religion, politics, society, or discoveries, gives us explanations to certain events from our past. These explanations build a relationship between us back then and us now. We need to learn from previous experiences or actions that may have lead us to the point we are in now.

History, like most here have already stated, repeats and will repeat itself: we will always have power-hungry people, a corrupted or tyrannical regime, opposing doctrines and dogmas, wars, new discoveries, and the such. It keeps on passing from generation to generation, shaping the next. Well, that's how I see it, anyway.

The fact that it repeats itself is what makes it important, it ensures that History is always relevant or important. As long as people act the way they do, History will be important.

I think it is important and all students should take it (imo it's more important than higher level maths, because that doesn't apply to everyone, while history does apply to people in most situations).

Everyone must study History because you ought to know about the past, to be able to take good decisions in the present, and History also teaches you about the mistakes committed by your ancestors so that you do not repeat them.

  • I love history, especially the stuff that focuses on World War I and II. I'd love if my high school offered courses specifically on one part of history. I don't like US history. I like European history, I think it's more interesting.
