The iPhone 4 Thread: HTCers gonna hate edition(Zet title invasion)

You can already get factory unlocked iPhones to use on T-Mobile, you just can't access 3G with them. You're stuck using Edge until AT&T's exclusivity ends. And I don't see why Apple wouldn't manufacture iPhones that use CDMA if they were to drop their exclusive deal with AT&T. That's sales that they would be losing, and few companies are willing to lose any sale.

AT&T would sue Apple into oblivion if they attempted to end that exclusivilty early. iPhone makes AT&T money by allowing them to charge exorbtitant monthly fees for service (they do that with every phone though).

I laughed so much when I hear about the signal problem. You would have thought someone would have noticed that.

I will end up getting a iPhone at some point though.

If iPhone comes to any other U.S. carrier, it would probably be T-Mobile. The iPhone and AT&T are GSM while Verizon is CDMA. T-Mobile, being GSM, would be easier to accomidate.

Hardware is not at all a factor. For all we know Apple could have been prototyping a CDMA version for the past year -- much like Mac OS X always had a secret Intel counterpart ever since its debut, "just in case".

They can throw out a CDMA iPhone just as easily.

Whatever Apple does, they need to ditch AT&T. Limited data, constant reception problems, no 4G or at least HSDPA+ for the data intensive iPhone. Hell, even T-Mobile would be better. Their network has improved a lot and is now on-par with AT&T if not better once they go HSDPA+ at the end of the month in my area. I'm actually considering ditching my HTC Evo for the MyTouch Slide once they go HSDPA+ since the web speeds are about the same and T-Mobile is cheaper plan-wise.

Hell, even MetroPCS is going to be better than AT&T once they deploy their LTE 4G network by the end of this year. In my area Metro has excellent coverage they just don't have 3G; and when they get 4G they will hard press the major carriers into a price war.
