From inside the room Cairne heard the two men exchanging words. One of the men who Cairne deduced was the leader of the Highwaymen was threatening to kill the other man who was the mayor if he refused to pay them for "Protection". Cairne couldn't stop himself from barging in when he heard that the leader of the highwaymen pulled out a knife. Cairne was completely shocked when the man turned quickly and slammed him into a wall and held a knife to his throat.

"Who in the hell are you kid?" He said with his teeth clenched, Cairne could feel the mans knife digging into his throat lightly.

"My name is Cairne, and someday I will e one of the worlds strongest trainers!" Cairne said with confidence and the man laughed out loud.

"Why didn't you say so kid?" He lowered the knife and placed it into his pocket and then released his grip on Cairne. "There's a much more fun way of doing this!" He said with a Pokemon ball outstretched in his hand.

"Let's do it then! Baron go!" He yelled and Baron took battle stance between the two men.

"Go Nidoran!" The man said tossing out his ball. Out of it came a pink rabbit with no fur and spiky ears, Cairne pulled out his Pokemon ball.

Nidoran♂
Poison Point Pokemon
It scans its surroundings by raising its ears out of the grass. Its toxic horn is for protection.

"Use Tackle Baron!" Cairne commanded and his Pokemon Went charging at Nidoran at full speed.

"Use Peck Nidoran!" Said the highwayman, the two collided and were both sent tumbling back into the walls of the home.

"Now Baron use Ember!" Baron set a jet stream of flames toward Nidoran who was engulfed by them and screamed out in pain.

"Nidoran charge him with another Peck attack now!" Nidoran stood up and tried his hardest to run at Baron and ended up limping at a slow pace. "Hurry up you worthless scum! Come on put the pain on him!" The man was yelling at the small pink Pokemon who fainted from its burns before it could even make contact with Baron.

"Gah whatever... He's completely useless anyways...." He returned his Pokemon. "Go Tyrogue!" He yelled releasing his second Pokemon. Once Again Cairne pulled out his Pokedex.

Tyrogue
Scuffle Pokemon
It is famous for its eagerness to fight and always nurses injuries from challenging larger foes.

"Use Tackle Tyrogue!" The man yelled and his Pokemon slammed its head into Barons side almost knocking him over.

"Ember Baron!" Cairne yelled and Numel attempted launching flames towards Tyrogue.

"Dodge it now Tyrogue!" Tyrogue jumped up onto a bookshelf that was engulfed in flames from the attack. His feet were burned and he fell to the ground in pain. "Tyrogue get the hell up now and use Fake Out!" Tyrogue got back up onto his feet and loeked every stronger, he ran at Baron arm outstreched but stopped dead short of making contact. Just as soon as Baron but his guard down for a second though Tyrogue punched him square in the face.

"Don't take that Baron! Use tackle now!" Baron snorted and slammed Tyrogue into a nearby wall. "Great now use tackle again!" He yelled and his Pokemon continued slamming Tyrogue into the wall until he went completely unconscious.

"Goddamnit!" The man yelled through his clenched teeth angrily and returning his Pokemon to its ball. "Time to pull out the big guns! Go Rhyhorn!" He tossed his ball and a stone rhino stood tall and ready for battle. Cairne pulled out his Pokedex.

Rhyhorn
Spikes Pokemon
Its body is clad in a thick hide, and its tackles topple buildings. Unfortunately, it is not smart.

"Dude no... Not inside... Baron use Tackle now!" Baron nodded and tried its best to put a dent in Rhyhorns armor but to no avail.

"Youll never beat Rhyhorn! He's undefeatable!" The man laughed out loud, "Rhyhorn use your Horn Attack and then follow up with a Tail Whip!"

Rhyhorn knocked Baron up into the air with his horn and then with its tail slammed Baron into the far wall making a heavy indent. Baron fell onto the ground and stood up covered in scratches and bruises.

"Baron use your Ember attack!" Baron shoot a weak blast of flames at Rhyhorn which he just completely shrugged off as if it were nothing.

"Rhyhorn use Tail Whip again!" Rhyhorn slammed its tail at Baron and once again swatted him into a wall. Baron fell to the ground and let out a soft nuuum.....

"Finish it Rhyhorn! Stomp on him!" Rhyhorn rushed at Baron and stomped his feet down just barely missing Baron who rolled over and cleaverly dodged the attack. Rhyhorn got stuck in the floorboards and couldn't pull himself out, this was Cairnes chance!

"Baron finish this with your Magnitude attack!" Baron slammed both his front feet down on the ground and shook the whole building. Rhyhorn got the full force of the attack anf feel over on the ground in completely out cold.

"No way...." The highwayman said.

"That's right man, we defeated your "unbeatable Rhyhorn!" and we beat you!" The man returned his Pokemon and then jumped forward back at Cairne with his knife outstretched at his face. He pulled the knife down his face starting from his forhead down to the base of his jaw going over his eye socket.

"Your lucky my momma taught me to be nice and respectful, otherwise your hide would be mine brat!" He threw Cairne down onto the destryed ground and walked out of the mayors house. After the mayor helped him make sure his face was cleaned and medicated he thanked him graciously.

"You really are a hero young man! Thank you so much for what you did!" Cairne was completely embarrased and looked down at the ground.

"I'm not sure I did much sir... I completely destroyed your beautiful home...." He frowned.

"Nonsense! You deserve a reward for your hard work! I'd rather be a man doing construction than a dead man!" He reached into his desk and offered Cairne a gift.

Chapter 3- Highway Robbery!

"Haha alright I did it! I caught my first pokemon!" Scythe exclaimed with enjoyment as he picked up the newly caught Pidgey's pokeball. "Alright Pidgey and Chukapis let's continue on our journey!" Scythe said to both of his pokemon's pokeballs as he continued to walk forward.

After walking a considerable amount scythe came to a sign in the road that read, "Cherry Grove City 1 mile". "Yes finaly we made it to our first stop!" the boy yelped as he started running forward in a fast pace. "HUH!" Scythe awkwardly said as he quickly stopped running and slid about a yard. "Who are these two werid looking guys?" Scythe thought to himself as he began to walk past them.

"Where do you think your going kiddo? I don't know if you knew this but there is a toll for walking through those gates. Now hand over all your Pokemon and money or we will take them by force!" The two men look down at Scythe with a mischievous grin and hold out their Pokeballs ready for a fight.

"...A battle? Haha alright i've been waiting for a chance to test out my skills!" Scythe joyfully said as he pulled out both pokemon's pokeballs. "Humph a two on two battle kid? I guess that works!" The weird guy on the left said. "It better!" Scythe said as he tossed out Chukapis's and Pidgey's pokeballs. "Pii" "Pidddd" Scythe's pokemon shouted as they came out of their resting places. "Psshh what are those weaklings gonna do!" the weird man on the right said as both tossed out their pokemon. "Ri" "GUNK" the highwaymen's pokemon shouted.

Scythe pulled out his pokedex and got the data from both pokemon. "This is a battle kid not a time to play with toys!" one man yelled at him. "I know that! Now let's go!" Scythe hollered. "Riolu quick attack!" "Croagunk use astonish!" the two men orderd from the pokemon. "Chukapis use your thundershock to mess up the ground in front of them! Pidgey fly off to the side for now!" Scythe orderd from his team. "PIIKAA!" Chukapis screamed as it sent electricity flying off towards the ground in front of itself tearing up the battle field. "RI!" Riolu hollered as rocks flew up from the ground and smacked it in the face and stopped it in it's tracks. Croagunk however made it past the torn up field and was on its way to attack Chukapis. "Pidgey use tackle on Croagunk!" Grecko hollered to his Pidgey who flew off into a nearby tree.

"PIDGEY!" the fast flying pokemon estaticly said as it charged in and slammed into Croagunk tossing it off into a nearby tree. "Croagunk and Riolu what do you think your doing!" Both of the odd dressed men yelled to their pokemon. "You guys need a better strategy than attacking straight on!" Scythe said confidently to the men. "Your just a kid what do you know! Riolu use counter!" the one on the left said.

Riolu instantly got up and vanished. "Chukapis look out behind you!" Scythe yelled out as he saw Riolu appear right behind Chukapis. But it was to late, Riolu slammed it's fist into Chukapis knocking him down. "Grrr Pidgey use tackle!" Scythe commanded. Pidgey once again flew in to tackle Riolu. "Not so Fast Croagunk use mudslap!" the other guy said. "CRO!" Croagunk shouted as it swiped up mud from the ground and sent it flying into Pidgeys eyes. "PIDDDDDDGG!!!" Pidgey exclaimed as it slammed into the ground.

"Haha looks like this is over kid!" both men said to Scythe. "No...no it's not! Chukapis use tail whip to dust the mud out of Pidgey's eyes and than Pidgey take Chukapis up into the air on your back!" Scythe instantly said to his pokemon. "What? What are planning!" the highwaymen asked. "You'll see!" Scythe laughed back as his pokemon took off into the air.

"Grrr Croagunk use mudslap to toss Riolu up into the air, and Riolu use Counter to finish this battle!" the highwayman on the left said as he thought up a plan. "Ri!" Riolu said as it was thrown into the air by Croagunk. "Now Chukapis use thundershock!" Scythe yelled out to Chukapis.

"PIIKAAACHUUU!" Chukapis hollered as it absorb electricity from the dark skies around it sending it straight through riolu and down to Croagunk, knocking them both unconcious. "What!!!!" the highwaymen both yelled as their pokemon were knocked out at the same time.

"Ya you guys did it!" Scythe said with satisfaction as he ran over to his pokemon that landed on the ground. "Now take a break!" he said as he returned them. "This isn't over kid..." the two odd men said as they ran off into the woods.

"Haha ummm...those guys were quite odd?" Scythe laughed as walked into the Cherry Grove City victorious. "I guess I should heal Chukapis and Pidgey before I do anything else!" the boy said as he entered the pokemon center.

"Thanks for healing my pokemon!" Scythe graciously said to Nurse Joy who handed him back his pokemon. "Your quite welcome, hope to see ya again!" she said back with a bright smile.

"Hmm I guess maybe I should go talk to the Mayor of this small town about those two guys robbing people." Scythe said as he walked off towards the mayors office not realizing what was waiting ahead. As Scythe approached the office of the mayor he saw two men inside who were dressed almost identical to the two guys he battled earlier. "What the hell is going on?" he thought to himself as he burst through the door of the office.

"No problem, Uncle. Thank again for the gift. Bye." Damion spoke the word Uncle, a sign of respect towards older folks. Damion smiled as he spoke into his crimson Pokegear which was firmly clutched on his left wrist.

"Okay. Make sure to be safe, it's getting dark out!" The mayor's old voice spoke in worry before a click sound was heard. Damion put down his hand and looked at the sight before him, the mouth of a light forest.

Damion looked down at his Pokegear, "Hmm. It's about 8 'o' clock, I'm sure I can get far enough before it gets too dark." Damion smiled and continued onwards, the mayor had given him his PokeGear number so they can keep in touch.

The TM that the mayor had handed Damion was now safely put away in a case that his grandfather had given him. Taro happily sat on Damion's right shoulder as they walked down the creepy route, Damion's face full of uncertainty.

Route 30, the indefinitely creepy forest road that separated Cherrygroove City from Violet City. The trees were large and covered with moss, dangling in strips of grungy fuzz. The grass was knee high in some places, things shifted in the boughs of the mighty trees, their eyes glowing and seeming to taunt the travelers, daring them to walk past….

Damion walked down the lone road that seperated the trees, "Hey Taro, are you scared?" Damion teased the little green pokemon who was covering its eyes. It lowered one stubby hand to reveal its left eye just as Damion poked his face at Taro,

"BOO!" The small Larvitar jumped off of Damion shoulder in fright. The boy caught the pokemon just before it hit the grond and chuckled, the Larvitar puffed its cheek in anger.

Damion continued his laughter when something caught his eye. To the left, in a patch of tall grass, were two floating orbs. They were red with a black dot inside each of them, similar to large eyes. They orbs floated there silently, when suddenly they flickered. From the orbs came shooting a red beam that landed on Damion and Taro.

"Ah! What is this?" Damion shouted, the beams didn't hurt them. But instead seemed to scan them. His pokedex's blue sphere flickered, Damion quickly took note of this and flipped it open.

"Foresight?! Who's trying to attack?!" Damion shouted, when a small figure charged from underneath the grass and landed in front of Damion.

~Owl Pokemon~
~It marks time precisely. Some countries consider it to be a wise friend, versed in the world's ways.~

Damion smirked, he was searching for a johto flying typ ever since he arrived.

"Alright Taro, let's go! It's a flying type, very vulnerable against rock. Sandstorm!" Damion pointed at the bird, the small green pokemon grabbed the floor as all of the sand and dirt in the area floated into the air. It swiftly started to fly around in different directions. Quickly, but lightly slashing at the bird.

"Hoot!!" The small brown bird launched its circular body at Larvitar, sending Taro flying into Damion. Damion clutched his stomach,

"A fiesty one, eh? Taro, Bite it's only support! Bite its single leg!!" Damion grinned, thinking he had outsmarted the bird. Taro dashed at the bird and lunged at its foot, opening its mouth to bite.

"Yeah...uh?" Damion's smile faded when he saw Taro completely miss, the Hoothoot standing there unharmed.

"What happened?" Damion looked down at his pokedex,

~It switches its standing foot so quickly, it can't be seen.~

"Wow, neat trick." Damion said, he quickly looked up to see Hoothoot lunging at Taro for another Tackle attack. Damion's eyes quickly widened as he scanned his Pokedex,

"Screech!!" Damion yelled out suddenly, Taro's mouth opened widely. A large sound wave was released, freezing Hoothoot in mid-air before launching it into the air. Damion snapped his fingers,

"Yes! You just learned that attack by leveling up, and now Hoothoot's defense it super low! Bite!!" Taro grinned as it ran undereneath the still air-born Hoothoot, just as it was going to land on the floor Taro jumped and bit into its feathers.

"Hah! Gotcha now! Pokeabll go!!" The boy threw the capsule at the Hoothoot, and it opened, the bird pokemon sucked inside.

Both pokemon and human held their breath as the ball moved back and forth...

Sahib thanked the mayor and then took the TM and left. He stored it away for later use. Sahib honestly didn't think he'd use it, but then again he wasn't sure. He went to the Pokémon Center and healed up his Pokémon (Nurse Joy sighed but didn't say anything) and then turned and started to head out of Cherrygrove. Sahib wanted to make it as far as he could that night, so he didn't think sticking around would benefit his decision. Just before he left though, he realized something. I'm totally getting some potions, Sahib thought, pulling out the money his parents had given him before he had left.

He walked into the Pokémart and then up to the counter. The man smiled and nodded at his request, pointing out the isle that held the potions and such. Sahib grabbed one, figuring that he'd save the rest of his money for greater emergencies. Then he walked up to the counter and paid for it. The man thanked him, to which Sahib replied. Then he walked out of the market and finally began his route towards the next city. Or Route 30, to be exact.

Well…I guess it's a good thing that I got there, he mused to himself. But I'm not sure how exactly it felt. I mean, I was glad that I helped the mayor, really…but they sure did have power, Sahib thought. He kicked a rock on the trail whilst he walked. I suppose it's a good thing though. I don't want to turn out like those jerks, Sahib decided finally. Suddenly he paused, seeing two kids battling each other. Sahib thought for a moment, and then approached them.

"Rattata get it with quick attack!" one boy yelled, pointing to what Sahib recognized as a Hoothoot. A small smile appeared on his face as he thought of an idea.

Soon the battle was over with the boy with the Rattata as victor. Sahib approached him then. The boy looked up at him in surprise.

"Want to battle?" Sahib asked bluntly.

"How many Pokémon?" the kid asked, stowing his Rattata's Pokeball away.

"Two each," Sahib stated.

"You're in luck, I have three with me now. Alright, do you want single or double?" the kid asked. He appeared to have a real desire for battles, considering he was looking excited already. "Oh! I'm Brian, by the way," he stated, sticking out his hand. Sahib glanced at it and then took it.

"Sahib. And I think a single battle would do," Sahib replied easily. The boy nodded and jogged a ways away, bringing out a Pokeball. Sahib did the same. They tossed them at the same time, and in a flash of light Sentret appeared. Its opponent was a Shinx. Sahib registered it in his Pokedex and then glanced at the battle. "Sentret, open up with a quick attack!" Sahib called, hoping to get the first move in.

The boy looked slightly surprised. He clenched his teeth as the attack hit directly on his slower Shinx. "Shinx use leer! Then follow that with a tackle!" Brian called, pointing at Sentret. Shinx leered at Sentret, all the while advancing closer and closer. Suddenly it charged while Sentret was unaware. It smashed into Sentret, sending the Pokémon rolling backwards into a bush. Sahib frowned and glanced over to where Sentret had rolled. Brian looked rather smug.

"Sentret won't go down that easy," Sahib stated. "Sentret, come back with another quick attack! Follow that up with tackle when it's recovering!" Sahib ordered. Sentret flew out of the bushes and slammed against Shinx. Shinx smacked into a tree, but before it could bounce back Sentret hit it with a tackle. Shinx cried out and slumped. Sentret leapt away, but Sahib knew it wasn't quite over yet.

"Oh yeah? Well, Shinx won't go down very easy either!" Brian declared, stomping his foot on the ground and pumping his fist. "Shinx! Kick it into high gear! Hit it with an all out tackle!" the boy cried. Suddenly Shinx's eyes snapped open. It gave a roar and charged. Suddenly it had bits of electricity forming off its fur. It slammed into Sentret and caused a small puff of dust to come up. Sahib clenched his teeth. When the little cloud disappeared, Shinx was panting heavily with dirt marks all over its fur. Sentret was slowly getting up. It looked hurt, but Sahib had definitely seen worse.

"Sentret, let's finish this! Give it one final quick attack," Sahib called out to Sentret. Sentret nodded and quickly bounded towards Shinx, slamming against it and knocking it backwards. Shinx cried out in pain, and then thumped to the ground. It didn't get up. Sentret leapt away, obviously the winner of this little battle. Sahib grinned widely and then congratulated Sentret. "Nice one," he called to the boy.

"Thanks, dude," Brian replied. "Now you're really in for it, 'cuz this time I'm using my best!"

"Haha, so am I," Sahib smirked. He returned Sentret and grabbed Cyndaquil's Pokeball. Alright…I've got to be careful, Sahib thought, narrowing his eyes slightly as he noticed the Pokeball looked like some sort of water ball. Brian suddenly produced a fishing rod from his pack and tossed the Pokeball on a hook. A bright flash of light later, and a small crab looking thing was sitting there. Sahib blanched at the Krabby, fearing that Cyndaquil might have a difficult time with this Pokémon. "Alright, here goes nothing…" Sahib grumbled. He tossed Cyndaquil's Pokeball.

"Cynda!" Cyndaquil stated confidently. It took one look at the bubbling Krabby and scooted backwards though. Then he looked up at Sahib. The look on its face was clearly one of those 'you've gotta be kidding me' looks. Sahib shrugged. Cyndaquil turned back to the Krabby.

"Here we go! Krabby, use bubble!" Brian called out, pointing directly for Cyndaquil.

"Cyndaquil, I want you to dodge it! Then go for an ember!" Sahib shouted. Krabby spat bubbles out of its mouth, and Cyndaquil barely missed them. Sahib knew that ember wouldn't do much damage, but in reality he was hoping for at least a burn on Krabby. The attack hit, but it was mostly because Brian let it. Sahib watched as Brian crossed his arms. "Water Pokémon are your specialties, aren't they?" Sahib called over the roar of the fire from Cyndaquil. Soon the flames died down, and Krabby was standing there looking barely injured.

"How could'ja tell?" Brian asked, wiping his nose with his left hand. He grinned widely, and pointed at Cyndaquil. "And I specialize in fainting fire types like that!" Sahib blinked, vaguely wishing he had taught Cyndaquil protect. "Krabby, use vicegrip on Cyndaquil!" Brian shouted.

Krabby nodded and moved in closer. It was faster than Sahib had expected, so its heavy arm clenched down on Cyndaquil. Cyndaquil cried out and tried to wiggle free, but to no avail. Krabby had him in a tight grip, and it didn't look like he would be letting to anytime soon.

"Heh…now Krabby, use a close range bubble!" Brian cried out. Krabby suddenly unleashed a rather nasty bubble. It hit Cyndaquil dead on. Sahib cried out as Cyndaquil got repeatedly pelted by the bubbles.

"Cyndaquil, light your flames on your back! It'll burn Krabby's claw!" Sahib shouted. Cyndaquil heard, and soon the flames on his back were bright and burning. Krabby cried out and released Cyndaquil. "Hurry and use tackle before it gets away! Follow with ember!" Sahib shouted rapidly.

Cyndaquil did just that. It smashed into Krabby, causing the Pokémon to wince. Then Cyndaquil let out a large burst of flame in an ember attack. Krabby cried out and tried to shield itself with its claws, but the heavy fire was too much. It left a rough looking burn mark on one of Krabby's claws by the time the attack was over. Cyndaquil panted, a bit of sweat appearing on the Pokémon's dense fur.

"Krabby, are you alright?" Brian called to his Pokémon. Krabby nodded though it looked rather tired. The boy paused and frowned. "Sahib…look, can we…stop?" he asked. A small sigh escaped his lips. "I can't bare to watch Krabby like this. I raised it myself, and…" he trailed off.

Sahib looked from Cyndaquil to Krabby. Then he slowly nodded, pulling out Cyndaquil's Pokeball. The boy grinned and recalled Krabby. He jogged up to Sahib and shook his hand, thanking him deeply. Sahib blinked and replied, saying that it really wasn't that big of a deal. Cyndaquil blinked in confusion. Brian suddenly grabbed his stuff and ran off, calling something over his shoulder that Sahib couldn't quite comprehend.

He looked down at Cyndaquil. "Well…think you got enough experience from that?" he asked dryly. Cyndaquil looked up and blinked at him simply. "Yeah, I thought so too," Sahib replied, though he really wasn't sure what Cyndaquil had even meant by said blink. Sahib set Cyndaquil on his backpack once more, and then they began to continue walking.

Soon enough, it was growing rather dark. Sahib looked down at Cyndaquil. Cyndaquil was almost asleep on the backpack, looking like he was about to actually fall asleep and fall off. I suppose we ought to camp here, Sahib finally decided. With those thoughts in mind, he began to make camp being careful not to disturb Cyndaquil as he did.

Fenris: Wow awesome battle! Sahib bought one potion! Sentret grew to lvl 9! Cyndaquil grew to lvl 12! Now do the next post! :)

Ding! Hoothoot was caught!

"Alright! Great job Taro!" Damion patted the Larvitar on the head and he smiled. The boy went over, picked up the ball and clipped it on his waist, letting Taro stay out for a while longer.

"A new friend! His name's Hoot." Damion told Taro, walking along the road, the green pokemon waddling by his side. He had always had a flair for nicknames….although to some; it was more of an annoying habit….

The orange sky brought out by dusk, soon turned into a pitch black as the day became later. Damion put on his earphones as he found a nice little clearing next to a river. He set down his bag and set up a camp site, he pitched a nice yellow tent and found a log and a few rocks.

He set up the log near the tent, in front of a pile of rocks he also set up. He found a few pieces of firewood and made a small camp fire. He quickly changed into a pair of red and black shorts that reached just below his kenes, he wasn't wearing a shirt. The fire kept him warm,

"So Taro, do you think we'll make it to the League? I mean, I know its a stupid question. But I mean, around you...I don't have to act tough." The boy sighed, this is one of the few times his face if fully visible. His large hood is usually covering up to just below his nose, his nice teeth clattered as he shivered.

"It's starting to get cold, we should go to sleep now." Damion jogged over to the river and got some water in his hands. He quickly splashed it over the fire, steam quickly replacing it. As he began to walk in his tent, he noticed something shiny in the grass patches nearby. He poked his hand in the grass and pulled out a small tan and purple item. It had a nozzle and a pokeball sign on the side,

"A potion? Someone must've dropped it. But it's perfect for Hoot! Now I can heal him!" Damion ran inside of the tent and jumped onto his covers and pillow, he looked down at Taro and placed him in his pokeball.

He placed his two pokeball next to him as he watched his pokemon inside through the transparent red tops. Taro, getting himself comfortable, and Hoot shivering. Damion quietly gasped as he released his Hoothoot,

"Are you alright, Hoot? I know your low on health, so here." Damion sprayed his pokemon with the Potion he found, the bird pokemon flinched a bit. Boot soon it smiled,

"Hoot! Hoothoot!" The bird pokemon grinned and rubbed Damion face with its head. Damion chuckled and returned it to the pokeball, the boy checked his pokedex.

"Male, Level 5. Hmm, a low level compared to Taro. But no worries, we'll work on it." Damion smiled as his mind soon cleared. His eyes beginning to close,

"Muahahaha!" Damion's eyes pried open and he quickly shot up, he looked around his tent. Nothing but the sound of the swaying trees and the tent itself being flapped slightly by the wind. The boy looke down at his pokemon to see them sound asleep in their pokeballs.

"Somethings not right..." Damion said to himself quietly. He had a horrible feeling in his heart, like if it was going to jump out of his chest.

"Argh.." He gripped his chest, when suddenly a flash of light appeared. Damion shielded his eyes, when it stopped he looked around. His vision was stilla bit blurred, but it soon came back into focus.

The sky above him was a blood red, the clouds a dark purple. It was impossible to tell if it was day or night, the building around him were decayed and in rubble. He sat on the floor, cracked with signs of no life. It was a barren waste land, the naked trees were black. Dead grass, gray in color, were surrounding the dead trees.

"Taro!! Hoot! Where are you?!" Damion looked around to see the pokeballs in a patch of dead grass. He sighed, relieved to see his companions. The pokemon were striking the ball itself trying to break free, but stopped when they saw Damion.

"It's alright guys, I'm oka-" Damion's speech was halted by the laughter that he heard before, he quickly turned around to see a tall man in a pitch black coat. Damion's eyes widened and his heart felt as if it was on fire.

"Ugh! W-Who-is...that??" It was hard for him to talk. The man had shadows covering his pale face, the black coat covering his body. Next to him was a purple demon with red eyes and a wicked smile, Gengar. They stared an opposite man, similar to the man in black. Yet, completely different. He wore white instead of black, the man seemed to be glowing while the man in black seemed to fade away.

Damion watched on as a battle commenced, he stopped when he felt something on his feet. Black puddles began to form,

"Agh!" He quickly reacted and stepped away from the puddles, which soon formed into two large man. Similar to the one currently in battle, only less wicked looking.

"...." The men were silent, their pale faces hidden by their cloaks. Each one of them quickly released a pokemon without a single word,

'What's wrong with these guys?' Damion thought to himself as he gripped his pokeballs, he quickly released them both. Taro and Hoot puffed out their chest as the opponents released their own pokemon.

~Gas Pokemon~
~Born from gases, anyone would faint if engulfed by its gaseous body, which contains poison.~

"Okay, this battle may very well decide if I live or die. Start things off with Screech, and Growl!!" Both of Damion's pokemon let out loud screams, Larvitar's powerful sound waves lowered Gastly's defense greatly.

Hoothoot's loud screams lowered both Houndour, and Gastly's attack. Damion grinned,

"Great Start! Now-" Damion was cut off by one of the man's voices,

"Smog." The man said plainly, the Houndour howled as a cloud of dark smoke escaped its mouth. The smoke engulfed Taro. Damion growled,

"Alright, Taro! Bite Gastly!! Hoot, Tackle Houndour!!" The small Larvitar charged out of the cloud of smog to leap directly infront of the Gastly. Taro bit savagely into the poison pokemon's body,

"Counter with Lick." The man said with a plain voice, mirroring his companion's. The poison pokemon stopped Larvitar in its tracks by licking its face clean, leaving pink goop on his face.

"Oh no!" He shouted, while his Hoothoot charged at the Houndour. The small bird tackled the dog into the ground, the Houndour quickly got up.

"Oh man, Hoothoot is a lower level. Growl!!" The Hoothoot unleashed another growl attack to lower the opponent's attack.

"Drown it out with Roar!" The man shouted, the dog pokemon unleashed a loud howl that completely masked the growl. Both attacks cancelled each other out.

"Taro, screech again! Hoot, Foresigh!" The Larvitar let out a loud series of sound waves, targeted at the black dog pokemon. The pokemon placed its paws over its ears, while the Hoothoot aimed its red beams at the purple gas pokemon.

"Hypnosis, Gastly." The man ordered, the purple pokemon gazed at Hoothoot and aimed a series of blue rings at the bird. The rings seemed to evaporate,

"Ha! Thanks to Hoot's Insomnia ability, it can't fall asleep! Now tackle!!" The bird pokemon launched its body at Gastly,

"Hmph. Normal attacks don't work again ghost types, boy." The man was shocked when the bird made contact with the ghost.

"It can after using Foresight, now Taro! Bite attack!" The Larvitar quickly plunged its sharp teeth into the already falling Gastly. The poison pokemon fell to the floor, the gas around it seemingly fading away. The man recalled his pokemon, as he did the man quickly evaportaed into the floor.

"Bite Attack, now Hypnosis!!" Damion yelled out, Hoot quickly used the same attack Gastly used. But his time, the target actually fell asleep. Taro quickly finishing it off with a swift Bite attack.

"Yes!" Damion smiled and exhaled as he closed his eyes. His two pokemon quickly leaping into his arms, Damion chuckled.

The boy looked up to see the second man evaporate into the floor in a similar fashion as the first, as soon as the man evaporated. Damion was able to see the original black figure who was battling the white figure, their battle had ended.

Damion's face contorted to shock when a puddle of black sludge apperaed beneath the man, two arms extended out of the ground and grabbed the man. The hand's yellow fingernails digging into his legs, making sure he doesn't escape.

"GyaaahH!!!!" The man shouted out, blood trickling down his leg. The man in black slowly makes his way over to the man in pain,

"I finally have my revenge.. the clan of hope dies here.. my old friend.. Zypher" The man swiftly pulls out a dagger, and plunges it in the man in white's chest. The man in white lost his breath as his body fell, lifeless. The shadow arms quickly plunged back into the floor, Damion was speechless. He closed his eyes and looked away, he quckly recalled his two pokemon.

When he opened his eyes, he was surrounded by five men in black cloaks. Damion's eyes widened,

"What do you want?!!" He shouted, when he looked back. He was laying down on the ground of Route 30, outside of his tent. He fumbled around on the floor and quickly got up, a boy with a krabby passed by, utterly creeped out.

"Oh hi!" Damion chuckled, when the boy was out of sight he qucikly ran back to his tent.

"Was that a dream?" He looked down at his pokemon, his eyes widened to see his pokemon tired. Taro's face full of pink goop,

"It wasn't a dream!! But...where have I heard that name?" Damion thought as he changed back into his normal clothes. As soon as he places his earphones on, he hears something:

"Dont let the past.. become the future.."

Damion sighed as he heard the voice, "Who was that??" He was shocked, he quickly packed his things and released his two pokemon. Larvitar happily sat on his right shoulder while Hoot was perched on his left shoulder.

He stopped in front of a sign that was covered in plant roots, leaves and dirt. He quickly wiped it clean:

Route 31

Sahib mumbled under his breath and rolled over. He was having a wonderful dream. He was happily battling a wild Lugia, and was close to becoming the best Pokémon Master in the world. Suddenly there was a crack, causing Sahib to sit bolt upright. His hair was sticking up in several odd directions, and if someone would've looked close they would've seen a bit of drool out of the corner of his mouth. Sahib blinked and wiped his lips hurriedly, then looked around.

Sahib rubbed his arms, feeling like someone was staring at him. He shivered slightly and lay back down, unsure of what to do. Cyndaquil was blissfully asleep on his back, a small bubble forming from his nose. Sahib heard something again, and this time he stood up. Cyndaquil blinked and woke up, looking around. He looked up at Sahib in question, clearly wondering what his odd human was doing awake at the middle of the night. Suddenly there was another noise, and this time Cyndaquil whipped his head around towards where it was.

As he remembered what Elm had talked about, Sahib felt a pit of uneasiness forming in his stomach. He swallowed heavily and looked at Cyndaquil. Then he crouched and grabbed the potion before spraying it on his Pokémon. "We're going to go investigate," Sahib declared in a whisper. "And I want you in top form. Sentret…well, Sentret's just gonna hang back for this one. He's too hurt to fight much anyway." Cyndaquil nodded in understanding.

So with those words and that potion, they set off. Cyndaquil lit the way with the flame of its back. Sahib carefully followed his Pokémon, keeping an eye open for anything that might be out there. The noise began to get louder as they approached the trees. Sahib and Cyndaquil went through, and then saw an old run down looking house in the middle of the woods. Sahib's nose wrinkled, what the hell? He vaguely wondered who would live in an old house in the woods, but then he was suddenly at the door.

"Do you think we should?" he questioned, looking down at Cyndaquil. Cyndaquil looked up and nodded confidently. "M'kay, if we die, I'm going to blame you," Sahib declared. Cyndaquil hung its head.

Sahib carefully pushed open the creaky door and stepped inside. His shoes made hallow sounds on the floorboards. Cobwebs littered the place, along with broken bits of glass and random items scattered about. Sahib carefully approached a desk, but before he fully reached it glass cracked under his feet. He pulled his foot back and picked up the picture. Cyndaquil looked up at him curiously. On the picture, there was a man shaking hands with another. He wiped away the dust carefully and saw that it was Professor Oak and some other man.

He set the picture down on the desk and looked at a journal that clearly said "Mr. Pokémon". He picked the journal up and was about to open it when suddenly he heard a loud noise. Jumping, Sahib dropped the journal and looked around. He found where the sound was coming from, and carefully crept closer with Cyndaquil at his heels. It sounded like…crying? Who would be crying in this old place? Sahib wondered. He stared at the door. Without caring, he kicked it in and balled in hands into fists, ready to fight if need be. What he saw, instead of a bad guy, was a little girl curled up and crying in the corner of the room.

Oh, geez, Sahib thought. He wasn't good with this stuff. So he carefully approached her and touched her shoulder. She looked at him creepily, and it was only then did he realize she had glowing red eyes. Sahib cried out and fell backwards, landing on a piece of glass and effectively cutting his arm. Darn it! Sahib thought, clenching his teeth. He looked up at the girl.

"Darkness has a way of keeping the dead alive," she stated, then began to laugh rather sadistically. Suddenly she changed shape. A purple floaty Pokémon was floating in the space she had been.

"Ghastly," Sahib growled. He felt his blood drip onto the floor. "It was you, huh?" he accused, backing away and finally getting up. "Cyndaquil, show him who's boss! Give it an ember!" Sahib shouted, pointing towards the floating Pokémon.

Flames immediately spewed from Cyndaquil's lips and towards Ghastly in a nasty spiral. Sahib watched as they hit the Ghastly, causing it to cringe and vanish. It reappeared seconds later, just feet away from where it had been previously. Suddenly it glared at Cyndaquil with all its might, trapping Cyndaquil in an obvious mean look. Sahib's eyes widened and he cursed. Well, I guess there's no switching now, he figured.

"Alright Cyndaquil, not much will do good unless we keep up with the fire power," Sahib stated, eyeing the Ghastly carefully. He grabbed his Pokedex and registered Ghastly before he could forget. "Now, Cyndaquil hit it with another ember!" Sahib shouted. His shout reverberated through the house, making it sound even more eerie than it was. Sahib glanced around, and then looked back at the battle. Cyndaquil was trying to hit Ghastly, but it kept vanishing.

Soon a curtain began to spark. Ghastly gave a hiss and appeared in front of the curtain, taking the full brunt of the flame. Ah, I see. It doesn't want its home destroyed, Sahib realized.

Suddenly Ghastly flew in the air, surrounding by a glowing purple light. Seconds later, it looked rather depleted of health. Then Cyndaquil cringed and shivered. Sahib's eyes went wider; Ghastly had laid a curse on Cyndaquil! Ghastly floated back down and disappeared. It very abruptly appeared behind Cyndaquil and licked the Pokémon, causing Cyndaquil to shiver further. Sahib growled and clenched his fist.

"Cyndaquil, burn the house!" Sahib shouted, showing no mercy. He knew that soon Cyndaquil would faint, and he was not going to have that happen to his Pokémon. Cyndaquil angrily unleashed its flames upon the house. Ghastly cried out and appeared in front of the flame, taking the attack once more. It soon began to sweat, looking completely worn out. "Cyndaquil, finish it off!" Sahib shouted.

"Cynda…QUUUUUUUUUUUIL!" Cyndaquil cried, forcing more firepower into the attack. It slammed Ghastly dead on, and then suddenly it was over. Ghastly vanished, and Cyndaquil stopped the attack. Sahib surveyed the room, noting that as a result of the attack there were some burnt curtains. His own blood was staining the floor as well. Sahib sighed and shook his head.

"Well Cyndaquil, I think we'd better keep going," Sahib stated. Cyndaquil nodded. As they ventured out onto the route, Sahib saw that the sun was slowly rising. He and Cyndaquil went back to their site and grabbed their stuff, and then continued on. Sahib saw the sign clearly; Route 31. So as the sun slowly rose, Sahib mused over the words. Darkness has a way of keeping the dead alive.

After thanking the Mayor for the TM, Kenneth left the office and headed back for the pokemon center. On the way he carefully placed the TM into a case he carried and stuffed it back into the side of his backpack. He looked over at Lily. She was pretty banged up from the fight with the Highway Leader and seemed to have a hard time walking. Kenneth sighed and reached for her pokeball.

"Back inside you go. You did a good job today." Lily gave a small cry in oppression to being in the ball but none-the-less stayed in.

This time Kenneth didn't bother to tell Nurse Joy what had happened. In fact, he assumed that she already knew from the smiles he was getting, not only from her but everyone else in the room. He lowered his head, blushing and once Lily was ready to go he rushed out.

'Save the Mayor and you're the talk of the town.' He smirked to himself as he walked through the town. 'I guess if I'm going to become a big shot trainer I'm going to have to get used to that kind of attention.' He looked at Lily, who was now walking beside him, having escaped the prison called a pokeball.

"You really don't like being in there, do ya?"

"Poli!" Kenneth laughed and laid his hand on her head. "Well, then I guess you'd better get used to walking. There's a lot of that ahead." He looked up and saw the town's Pokemart. He bit the inside of his mouth and rummaged around in his pockets. 'Good, I've got just enough for one potion.' He turned to walk into the story, Lily immediately following. 'It might just come in handy.'

The store was well lit and Kenneth could almost see his reflection in the shiny blue tiles along the floor. A few people lingered here and there, few trainers but others just common townspeople talking or grocery shopping.

Kenneth made his way down an aisle and stopped once he got to where the potions were supposed to be. The selection wasn't big, just the general things. He picked up a bottle and headed to the counter. With a few words he paid for it and said his thanks, the clerking thanking him for his earlier deed.

Once outside his pokegear started to beep. He took a quick glance to see that it was only telling him the time. 'It's only 7 o'clock? Geez, it feels like it should be about 10.' He looked up at the sky. 'I should head out soon. If I'm lucky I'll be over halfway through Route 30 by dark.'

Route 30, together with Route 31 it leads all the way from Cherrygrove to Violet. The trees in the area were particularly large and housed several Hoothoots and Ledyba. Interesting enough there was a sort of path, made by the feet of those who traveled the area, that ran through the Route, giving those unfamiliar with it an idea of where to go. However, from time to time the path was covered by patches of tall grass, making travel a bit more difficult.

Kenneth was enjoying the scenery however, relived at the change of pace. He passed by a few trainers who were too busy battle with each other to even notice and challenge him. He was happy about that. He had already had many battles for one day and he wanted Lily to get the chance to get some proper rest.

About an hour and a half after leaving Cherrygrove, he found himself passing by a small pond. There he spotted a few Hoothoot among the trees. He smirked and turned to Lily.

"How about we find ourselves a new partner?"

"Poli?"

"Well, it'll be more fun if it was more than just us. Plus, it saves you the trouble of always having to fight." Lily seemed to like the idea, especially when it came to her not having to fight all the battles. She gave a nod in response and Kenneth smiled while he grabbed his Pokedex.

"Ok let's see here. There are only three type of pokemon here. We have Hoothoot, a flying type, Ledyba, a bug-flying type and Shinx, an electric type." He thought for a moment. "Well, no team is complete without a flying type, sooo…let's go hunt down a Hoothoot!" He pumped his fist into the air and took off. Lily, startled, only watched as her trainer rushed off, but she soon regained her posture and took off after him.

Another hour had gone by and Kenneth wasn't a bit closer to catching Hoothoot than he was before. The only thing he had actually achieved was getting further along the route. Tired from a constant hour of running he sat down and leaned against a tree. He sat there for a few minutes thinking. 'I could just wait until it gets darker, that's when more of them will be out.'

"Lily!" He called out to the young poliwag that was still running around the area. Moments later she popped out of some bushes and ran over to her trainer.

"We're going to take a break here and go after those Hoothoots when it's dark, so don't wander off far like last time." Lily nodded and response and wandered around the area, but stayed in sight.

Kenneth stretched out his legs and shifted his gaze to the sky. It was already pretty dark, but there was still just a bit of light out. He blinked and began to daydream about the rest of his journey. His mind roamed over the gym leaders he'd would have to fight and then there was the League. Not only that, but he still wondered about the white-cloaked people that attacked him and the other trainers at Prof. Elms. 'I wonder how the others are doing. Hopefully they've had a better time than me.'

He was so wrapped in his thoughts that he didn't notice a certain pokemon sneak up beside him and sniff his hand. In a way it resembled a kitten with blue fur yet there was a bit of black fur under its torso and it whole 'lower' body. A four point start rested at the end of its tail and a turf of fur on top of its head. It pawed Kenneth's hand and when it didn't get a response it bit him.

'Ouch! What the he…" Kenneth froze as his gaze met that of the gold-eyed pokemon. It blinked at him, not frightened and took a few steps closer.

"Shinx!"

Kenneth blinked as he watched it crouch low to the ground, staring at him mischievously. "Hey, hey what are you doing?" Without a warning it pounced with a hard tackle. As he fell to the ground he called out to Lily who hadn't noticed the events. She jumped, once again scared by her trainer and turned to see what was happening.

"Bubble!" She didn't waste any time and showered the young cub with her attack. Once it was off of him, Kenneth jumped to his feet and ran behind Lily taking out his pokedex.

Shinx, the Flash Pokemon. The extension and contraction of its muscles generates electricity. It glows when in trouble.

Extra information popped up on the screen telling the shinx's gender, level and attacks. He looked at the Shinx who stood tall with little to no damage. "Lily, he's an electric type so normally your water moves wouldn't do much harm, but since his level is quite lower than yours we have the advantage! Use bubble!"

Shinx was ready this time; he easily evaded the bubbles and ran towards Lily.

"Aim them to your right!" Lily turned, still and mid attack and shot what was left of the bubbles directly into the shinx's faze. It stopped in its tracks, shaking its head back and forth to dry itself off. It turned its gaze to Lily and its eye flashed, intimidating not only the pokemon but the trainer as well.

Kenneth bit his lip as it took a step closer and order Lily to do another bubble attack. She missed the target and halfway panicked when it disappeared into the bushes.

"Whew, it's over." Kenneth sat down and dropped his shoulders. He looked at the sky to see that some time had passed. "I guess will have to camp out here."

He made a move to get up but something crashed hard into his chest and sent him rolling. He landed on his back and winced in pain. "What now?" He opened his eyes and screamed when he found himself looking into the Shinx's eyes again.

Lily reacted to her trainer's scream and shot a bubble attack at the Shinx while it was distracted. When it was gone Kenneth scrambled to his feet and stared at it. It held the gaze back and seemed to smile at him. 'It doesn't look like it's gonna leave me along.' He blinked and a light bulb appeared above his head and clicked on.

Quickly he reached for an empty pokeball and order Lily to use bubble again. Just as she thought the Shinx evaded the attack, but was left open for another.

"Now for the kick!" He dropped the ball, spun, and slammed his foot into it, sending it speeding towards the young cub-like pokemon. It turned its gaze to him just a second before the ball made with the turf of fur on its head. Then like a vacuum does dust, it was sucked into the ball.

It landed softly on the ground and started to wiggle.

After thanking the Mayor thoroughly for his gift, Liliana and Nala stepped into the Pokémon center once again. Nurse Joy did not seem all that thrilled to see them back shortly after they left. And with Nala in such a condition. But she didn't say anything and went to heal Nala without a complaint. Except this time the Nurse did not add her customary "We hope to see you again" line. Obviously she wished Liliana did not come back again with a Pokémon quite so beat up.

When she was leaving the town twilight was already making itself know, but Liliana didn't feel like staying in Cherrygrove. No, there was honestly nothing she wanted more than to get moving. Maybe she could even catch another Pokémon, which was needed since she wasn't looking forward to another battle with 3 against 1. She knew Nala did amazing in that battle, but if Rhyhorn would have hit her once, well let's just say talking would have been a lot harder for Liliana.

The route they now found themselves in was a foresty one. With the oncoming darkness Liliana had to admit, it was slightly creepy, but it wasn't dark yet and she still had a way to go, so she just sucked it up and started searching for a Pokémon. She found a couple of Hoothoots, but they all scattered when she came near. She wasn't very interested in a Hoothoot anyway.

A Ledyba also stuck his head out of a tree, as if it had been sleeping there. Liliana considered it, she liked Ledyba, but what she really needed was something that could help her defeat the first gym, a Flying type gym. And Bug type would only contribute to the weakness Nala already had. She needed something that could help her, something that could withstand powerful bird attacks.

She checked her Pokédex on nearby Pokémon. It informed her that there were several Hoothoot nearby scurrying the ground, and another Ledyba too. What it also told her was that there was one Shinx it could give her information on. A Shinx! That's it, that's exactly what I need! An electric type!. And so Liliana decided to hunt down the Shinx that was in the area. Little did she know it wouldn't be quite as easy as it looked.

She searched and searched but she couldn't find it. That was until she heard a sharp call and a laughing voice when she decided to check out what was going on there. She stumbled upon a black-haired boy barely older than she was with a Yanma buzzing beside him. The Yanma was about to Quick Attack the Shinx when Liliana interfered.

"Hey, you over there, care for a battle?!" It was the only thing she could think of that would allow her to steal the Shinx from him.

"Can't you see I'm busy? Go battle someone else!" He didn't even give her a second glance. This, especially, made Liliana determined to challenge him, and Nala picked up on this determination quite easily. She still liked to shine.

"What is it, are you a coward? This Shinx is not going anywhere anyway, you pretty much got it cornered." Liliana spoke in a taunting voice, and the reckless boy dug in it deep. Like most guys, you hurt their pride, well they grow stupid. To finish it off Nala sent a Razor Leaf flying toward the Yanma, who easily deflected it with its 360 degree vision. But Yanma was not the one she was going to battle.

"I have a better Pokémon for this" the boy said. "Yanma, make sure the Shinx doesn't go anywhere. Heracross, this is a job for you!" The Pokémon he sent was a navy-blue colour, with big bug eyes and it was most definitely bigger than Nala. This was something Liliana hadn't foreseen. She'd thought that she'd be facing Yanma, who didn't look to be over level 7 to the least. This one looked a lot worse. Damn.

"Nala, let's start this! Use tackle now!" She called out and Nala run toward the Heracross. Instantly the Heracross got a command on his own and he flew toward Nala, horn first, into a Horn Attack on his own. The horn brushed under Nala and sent her flying into the air. As if this was all pre-trained, Heracross fired into the air and delivered an Aerial Ace. Its horn caught the dropping Nala and sent her down even harder. Dust whipped up all around her as she took effort to get up again. A heavy blow for the first one.

"Heracross, do the same move again! This'll end sooner than anticipated," the boy grinned from ear to ear as his Heracross did exactly what he was asked to do. It had landed a bit away from Nala and was no speeding toward her again, about an inch from the ground with its bug wings fluttering angrily. But now Liliana was prepared.

"Nala prepare to tackle, but wait for my command!" Liliana made Nala wait as the Heracross came dangerously close. When it was just two feet away Liliana finally gave the command. "Nala, jump up, NOW!" Nala jumped and came down in one of her leaping tackles. The Heracross had been too close to move from its course and it got hit in the back and rammed into the ground. It still had no problems getting up thought.

"Heracross use Aerial Ace again!" Nala, who had been very close to the Heracross had no time to dodge the move that came upon her with such speed. She landed a few meters away, but struggled up and nodded to show she was fine. She shook herself a bit and waited for a command. The boy was already on the move again. "Heracross, leap into the air and use Aerial Ace!"

"Nala, wait for it again, and prepare to tackle." Nala nodded and waited while the bug jumped into the air and came soaring down with incredible speed. Speed that would be his downfall. "Nala, get under him and jump!" Nala understood exactly what she had to do. She sped forward she was right under the Heracross, who was moving way too fast to dodge or change course at all. Nala jump up with all her might as he was a few inches above ground and hit him in the underside. This seemed to be his weak spot, for it hurt him much more than the previous tackle had done.

The boy stubbornly told him to do an Aerial Ace again though, and Heracross listened. This time, since Nala had still been close, he hit her again. Herecross flew into her side with his horn and knocked her to the ground, this time Nala had to push herself to get up. She looked in a lot of pain, as if the littlest touch would sent her falling down.

Liliana looked at the sun, it was setting, but it would be enough. "Nala, use synthesis!" A yellow glow surrounded Nala as she used her leaf to catch rays of sunlight and replenish herself. It worked and her energy seemed to replenish itself. Suddenly she was going strong again. She cried out in delight as she pawed the ground and watched Heracross fiercely. He seemed to be taken aback by the change in her attitude and by the sudden recovery.

"What?! Is that even allowed? Whatever, Heracross, Aerial Ace from above again!" The boy commanded stubbornly. Heracross flew into the air once again and came down with speed. This time Liliana got a different idea.
"Nala, be prepared to use Poison Powder when you get the chance!" Her leaf and buds once again got a purplish tint that could only mean one thing. Poisonous. The Heracross came down full of determination to hit Nala hard, but she waited patiently. Just as he was close enough she released the powder and the moment Heracross inhaled it he fell down into the ground. He seemed to be shivering as the poison coursed through his body, but he got up nevertheless.

"Heracross, Fury Attack! Use it, come one. We can still own this!"The Heracross took effort to get close, but it prepared to attack Nala with as many hits as he could muster. Nala, was too fast however, or Heracross was just too slow with the poison coursing through his body, sipping his health away. She dodged all of his hits. "Nala, hit him in the belly again!" Liliana called out. The Heracross had been standing up to deliver his blows, and Nala took advantage of this by hitting him square in the stomach. Heracross doubled over and fell to the ground, not getting up. The boy grumbled angrily.

"Let's see if you can take my Yanma!" he yelled at the Pokémon that had been hovering above Shinx.

"Uhuh, this was a one on one battle, mister. So it's time for you to run over to the Center and heal your Heracross from his poison, just recalling him won't help it ya know," Liliana spoke with a faux nice smile as she moved toward the Shinx. "So if you don't want Heracross to become even more ill, you should heal it at once. Now if you excuse me, I have some catching to do, thank you very much."

Liliana moved toward the Shinx, which seemed to already have had quite a beating from the Yanma as the boy gave up, recalled both his Pokémon and marched in the direction of Cherrygrove for a healing. Even though the Shinx looked quite tired, its body was entirely glowing with electricity. It growled a little when it saw Nala and puffed its fur out more. Without a warning it charged at her, but Nala quickly used a Razor Leaf.

The Shinx used a Leer, keeping Nala bound with eye contact. She couldn't stop looking at him as he tackled her head first. It had the same problems with head first tackling as Nala had, however, and it looked to be quite dizzy afterwards.

"Nala, use a powerful tackle to end this!" Nala, who was also a bit sick of battling today, tackle the dizzy Shinx with one powerful move and sent it slamming against a rock where it had been trapped by the boy. It slit down painfully and almost unmoving as Liliana took an empty Pokéball from one of her bags and threw it at the Shinx. It wobbled a bit as she and Nala watched it wearily. Finally it stopped moving entirely and just sat there. Liliana picked up the ball and released it again. The Shinx came out and almost immediately started glowing again.

"Calm down little thing, I'm not gonna hurt you. You need a name," Liliana watched the Little Shinx. It watched her carefully, as if trying to see if he should run away, or toward her. "Djali, that's it. I'll call you Djali."

There was a small tip of the sun still to be seen, but it was sinking fast. Nala performed a quick Synthesis to replenish her health before they set up camp by the side of the road. Shinx was still restless, and also still glowing, but it still lay down to sleep. Nala just dug herself a little hole and fell in. She was almost immediately out. Liliana wasn't so lucky. For some reason she just couldn't get to sleep.

Dutchesse: Good post! Nala grew to lvl 14! and Liliana caught a lvl 4 female shinx! now do part two!

Liliana had been laying awake for quite some time, but finally she did fall asleep. When she woke up again it felt as if she'd been sleeping for a few second only. She woke up to Djali hissing at something in the distance. Suddenly there was a loud noise. She couldn't really place what it was, but it had gotten Djali seriously freaked out. She shushed him and laid down again, but once again sleep didn't come to her. Djali was still on edge and still shining bright, but she had stopped hissing. She was just too spooked and all sorts of frightening scenarios were running through a head. It was a miracle when she did slowly drift off again.

She woke with a start. A man laughed in the distance. It was a laugh of joy, it was an icy laugh that gave her Goosebumps from head to toe. It made her shiver and a splash of fear washed over her. She opened her eyes but got blinded by a bright flash of light. More laughter. She started panicking. When her vision returned she found that both Nala and Djali were gone. Instead there was a man. She couldn't see a lot, all she saw were eyes that seemed to peer right into her soul. Another shiver came followed by a wave of fear. She felt like she was frozen as this man stared at her. But then suddenly she felt someone else was there. She turned around with a start and found there was a man cloaked in white right behind her. The man was battling the laughing man's Gengar. She quickly scrambled up to get out of the way.

This was the first time she noticed her surroundings. She wasn't on the route anymore. Instead she was standing in a city, or what once was a city. There were ruins all around her, the entire world seemed to have gone eerily dark and smoke restricted her vision. She could hardly see anywhere past a couple of meters . Except for the man, she could see him clearly. Too clearly. The only thing she couldn't see of him were his features. He seemed to be in all black. His eyes looked as if they were reflecting light, it was the only clear thing she could see. Another wave of fear. She knew she had to get away from there, away from the two men battling. Away from the laugh and away from the eyes.

She ran ahead, but her legs felt like they were asleep. She had the greatest trouble moving, but somehow she managed to run a little ahead before getting cut off by two other men in black robes. They didn't talk, all they did was each release one Pokémon each. These were a Gastly and a Houndour. Still remaining silent the two Pokémon closed in on her. She had the impulse to yell and scream until she couldn't anymore. Instead she acted on impulse and removed two Poké Ball from her belt. Her Pokémon! There they were. She had no time to think so she released them both.

Nala eyed her opponents with an aggressiveness that Liliana had never seen her posses. Djali was shining bright like he did when he felt danger near. All his hair was on end and he hissed at the Houndour he was facing. The Houndour attacked Djali with an Ember attack, while Gastly locked Nala with a Mean Look. Once again Liliana wanted to shout at her Pokémon to run, to get as far away as possible. But another instinct told her this battle might be her only chance to get away.

"Nala, close your eyes, don't look! Listen to him and then use Razor Leaf! Djali, Dodge and use tackle!" Djali side-stepped the little flames that were being spewed her way and tackled the Houndour in the side. The dog howled a little before getting it together again and howling in rage. Nala had closed her eyes to end the eye contact with Gastly. She listened patiently for any soudnd that the Pokémon made and when she hear a little disturbance to her right she fired a Razor Leaf, hitting Gastly directly. Without a command again, Houndour spewed out a thick purple smoke that could only be made by a Smog attack. Gastly closed in on Nala, while still being showered in Razor Leaves, and licked her. On contact of the move Nala shivered violently. She couldn't help but open her eyes and the moment she did so Gastly fired a Hypnosis and lulled her asleep.

"Djali, whatever you do, do not inhale the smoke! Hold your breath and run toward Houndour himself, then tackle him! Nala, wake up, come on! NALA!!" Whatever Liliana shouted, Nala would not wake up. For a moment Gastly did nothing but watch in joy at what he had done, then he went to lick again. Nala awoke with a start when contact was made, shivered again, and fired a quick Razor Leaf. The leaves cut Gastly in the head and tongue and he recoiled angrily.

Djali held her breath while running as fast as she could toward Houndour, where there was no smog. When she got out she took a second to breathe and while she did that, Houndour immediately spewed flames at her. She was able to dodge all of them but one, which hit her paw. She quickly fired a tackle at Houndour, who dodged it. Djali was troubled by the Houndour who was way stronger than she was. And also, the fire had hurt her foot and she was having troubles putting a lot of weight on it. Liliana understood that she had to get Nala to win this battle quickly, so she could help Djali out. Until that time she had to keep Houndour busy so that Nala had the space to actually take out Gastly.

"Djali, hang in there! Just keep tackling Houndour and keep him busy, do not let him hit you! Nala, please, keep firing Razor Leaves at Gastly, and don't open your eyes!" Nala did what was asked of her. Every disturbance in the air she fired a few leaves at. More often than not she missed Gastly by a bit, but she got some shots in. Gastly himself got a few lick-attacks in, but it couldn't do a whole lot more while Nala was keeping her eyes closed. After a little bit of this Gastly seemed to be getting tired. He was the only one that was moving a whole lot, Nala was just spinning around herself, she wasn't really exerting herself. His movements got sloppier and his reaction slowed. More and more of Nala's hits were getting to him until for some reason, his trainer stepped in. Still not speaking a word he lifted a shadowy Ball and recalled his Pokémon. The usual white light was replaced by a grey smoke as the Pokemon disappeared. This was fine by Liliana for now Nala could help Djali.

Djali had been doing exactly what Liliana had wanted him to do. He was running around tackling Houndour while he was dodging little Embers. He was significantly tired however, but Liliana noticed that she had chosen the right Shinx. This one seemed to have an excellent speed and endurance. But all the tackled he hit didn't seem to faze Houndour too much. He just kept going. Now Nala stepped in with a strong tackle from behind, catching Houndour by surprise. This hit was a little different than one by tiny Djali.

"Nala, Djali, I want you both to continue dodging and tackling! Just take him down as soon as possible!" Nala and Djali seemed to be perfectly in sync. They both moved at the same time, catching Houndour at different places. Now he had to chose which way to fire his attacks and which way to jump away while getting hit by at least one of them. This way Houndour went down quickly, and just like Gastly, before he had fallen down or fainted the hooded man recalled him without a word. The smoky substance surrounded Houndour and he disappeared inside the black ball.

Liliana did the same thing, she ordered her Pokémon back in their Balls and prepared to run, but something caught her eye. She found that she couldn't run, she couldn't move. She could only watch what was happening. The laughing once again came back. The battle has ended between the two strangers. The man in black was laughing even icier than he had before. What was even stranger was that, even though she recalled having run away, the two seemed no farther away than they had been before. Well the man in black that was. The white man had gotten closer to the first man, and he was now on his knees.

Liliana watched in horror as some kind of shadow rose from the ground and held the White cloaked man in place. The other one was still laughing with a wicked smile on his face as he slowly walked toward his victim. The victim was struggling against what was holding him with all his might, his features were all contorted in fear. Pure and utter fear as he gave up struggling and just watched the laughing man.

"I finally have my revenge.. the clan of hope dies here.. my old friend.. Zypher".

The voice of the laughing man was even more chilling than his laugh had been. There was no warmth to be found, but there was satisfaction. And a certain happiness in a strange and creepy way. The man pulled something from his cloak as he looked at the other man with such satisfaction and glee that Liliana shivered once more. At once she recognized the thing to be a dagger. She wanted to look away but she founds she couldn't. All she could do was stare in horror as the laughing man stabbed the other, once again a sick laugh escaped his mouth.

Liliana pulled herself away from the strange sight, turned around and ran. But before she had taken three steps she was suddenly surrounded by 5 more men in black robes. Each of them summoned a Pokémon. Liliana felt a wave of fear, but also of acceptance. This was it, there was no way she could have gotten away now. There was no way she could take on 5 Pokémon.

Suddenly there was another flash and sat up with a start. She was back on the route, back with her sleeping Pokémon. She was breathing heavily and drenched in sweat. Had that been a dream? It couldn't have been, it had felt so real. Every bit of it had felt real. But here she was, undisturbed. And that name. Zypher. Where had she heard it before? Where were the ruins of the city. The sick laughter still rang in her ear as she wrapped her arms around herself and tried to calm down. But she couldn't.

"Dont let the past.. become the future.."
It was faint, almost a whisper in her ear. She quickly turned around to find the source of the whisper, but there was no one there. She was still breathing heavily with Goosebumps all over herself. She felt a single tear fall. It was so frightening. So real. So terrifying.

She barely noticed that it was morning, Djali stretched himself out. He didn't seem at all freaked out anymore. Nala did though, she was completely on end as she watched Liliana with a strange panicked look in her face.
What had that been?!

Night had finally settled in and along Route 30 there was little noise. Every now and then the call of a Hoothoot would ring through the area, but other than that it was nice and quiet. A light wind blew through the route, rustling the leaves.

Kenneth had already made camp once he had caught the shinx, who he named Zack. There wasn't much to his camp, if you could really call it a camp. There was a small fire eating away at what was left of the wood and not far from it a sleeping bag. Having eaten, Kenneth was resting inside it, staring at the stars. Lily was lying against his side and Zack was curled up, nestled between his head and shoulder.

Unable to go so sleep, unlike his partners, Kenneth just stared at the stars. His mind reflected over the day's events. His first pokemon and battle, Prof. Elm's warning, the guys in the white cloaks, and the highwaymen. A lot had happened for his first day as a trainer and though he was worried about a few things he couldn't help but feel happy. He was off on his own, just him and his pokemon; something that he had wanted for a very long time. He shifted a bit careful so he didn't wake his pokemon. Finally his eyes were becoming heavy and his consciousness started to slip away.

*Brooosshh*

Kenneth sprung up, his eyes frantically searching around, alert. His sudden movement woke Lily and she hopped to her feet, ready to attack. Zack on the other hand, lazily opened one of his eyes and scanned the area. Seeing nothing with his x-ray-like vision he curled himself up again and attempted to go back to sleep.

Kenneth couldn't help but feel as if her was being watched. A hoothoot howled and his head snapped in its direction. It was perched on a tree not far from the dying camp fire, staring at the human with its rather large red eyes. He sighed, a bit more relieved.

*Brooshh*

His head snapped towards the southern end of the Route. It was far away, but it still worried him inside a bit. Sensing no immediate danger, Lily plopped herself down against Kenneth's side again and snuggled into it. Within movements she was sleep again. Kenneth's gaze went over to her, then to Zack. 'Well, they don't seem to be worried at all. Maybe I'm just overreacting, yeah that's it. All I need is a good night's rest.' He laid his head back on the ground and gazed at the stars once again. Soon, he was drifting off.

"Hahahahaha….HAhahahahaha…Mahahahahaha…MAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

His eyes shot back open and he quickly scrambled from his sleeping bag, rudely awaking the sleeping forms of his pokemon. His heart was racing now, pounding so loud in his ears that each beat sounded like a loud footstep coming closer. He was doing his best not to panic, but an unrelenting feel of devastation shook his whole body, right to the marrow of his bone. He breathing was ragged, his skin pale and clammy but yet he saw no one. There was only him, his pokemon and the fire that was almost gone.

Just as his heart had finally started to slow there was an explosion of light, forcing him to cover his eyes. It didn't last long and when Kenneth uncovered his face he could barely see. Everything was extremely blurry. Thing only thing he could tell was that it was dark, but this darkness wasn't the normal nighttime darkness. No, it was giving off a feeling of inevitable doom.

He blinked his eyes a few times and once they came into focus he was met with a nightmare. No longer did he stand somewhere along Route 30. This place he had found himself standing was horrible.

The ground below him was rough and dry and numerous with large cracks. Trees were barren, burnt to a crisp black and strip of their leaves. Their branches seemed to reach up towards the sky as if begging for just a drop of rain and but a speck of sunlight. At their base dead grass covered the ground, empty of any water and nutrients, dry hard. The landed was dotted with rubble and crumbling building. Pieces of walls from the rubble were lined with cracks and looked as if they would simply vanish into dust with the slightest touch.

The sky above him was dark, a hazy purple color swirling with black. From Kenneth's view point it look like a vortex of some kind and at its 'center' a large glowing red orb rested. It casted its sadistic light upon the strange place, giving the black clouds a red outline. The air was hard to breath and if felt as though it was burning his nose and throat.

Kenneth's heart was racing again. It felt like it would jump out of his chest and explode at any moment. It only got worse when he heard the laugh that had disturbed his sleep.

Not far from his there was a man, dressed simply in a black cloak. The hood was up, covering the entire top portion of his face, but for that Kenneth was glad. For the second Kenneth laid eyes on him he felt a part of his soul die and his knees almost gave out. His brain was in a major overload, his thoughts race from one thing to another, never stopping. Just the pure essence of evil flowing from the man coupled with his wicked smile was more than enough to crush Kenneth's soul. Behind the man stood a short purple pokemon, with a round body. It had a large sinister smile on its face and large red eyes. Kenneth recognized the pokemon to be Gengar, the shadow pokemon.

Kenneth follows the Gengar's stare and his eyes lay on a man, cloaked all in white. Seeing him Kenneth felt the grip of fear loosen. The man was actually glowing and the light around him was full of hope. However, he soon figured that this man was in a battle against the Gengar and its owner and he began to worry.

He took a step, attempting to call out to the man, but found himself stepping into a puddle of black stuff. He jumped back and watched as the puddle rose from the ground and took the shape of two men, dressed just like the man in black. However, their malice was nothing compared to that of the man with Gengar. Without a word they both released a pokemon. Kenneth smirked mischievously. He wasn't afraid of these two for some reason. They didn't seem to be so threatening.

"Al right, if you wanna play that way. I'm game!" He reached for Lily and Zack's pokeballs on his belt and was frightened to find that they were empty. He quickly took a look around him, searching for his missing pokemon. He gaze came back to the two men who, with their Houndour and Gastly, were slowly approaching him.

Suddenly, a spiral of water collided into Gastly and Houndour was pushed to the side. Two figures moved quickly, putting themselves in-between Kenneth and the two men in black and their pokemon.

"Lily! Zack!" Kenneth called out, too happy to say anything else. However, the reunion was cut short as the Gastly and Houndour were both up, ready to fight. Zack lowered himself to the ground and started to growling, intimidating the Houndour and Lily simply squared off with the Gastly. 'Good, it seems they already know who to take on. Now we've got to finish them quick.'

"Let's go! Zack use leer and Lily attack Houndour with Water Gun!" Zack caught the Houndour's eyes and kept contact, enticing the dog pokemon. While he did so, Lily prepared to use her newly acquired attack, but found herself unable to help, caught in a gaze with Gastly. 'Not good.'

"Zack, Tackle! Lily, turn your Water Gun on Gastly instead." The cub pokemon took off, dashing towards Houndour with amazing speed while keeping eye contact.

Lily, unable to hold back her attack anyway sent another spiral of water zooming at the Gastly. It landed a direct hit, knocking the ghost pokemon to the ground.

Zack pounced hitting Houndour with his strongest tackle, however being inexperienced in battle he didn't do much damage. Houndour, now free of leer opened its mouth. A thick purple fog poured from its mouth and enveloped Zack.

"Don't breathe in the gas! Just…" Kenneth's attention was taken away from Zack as he watched Lily fall back, covered in a pink gooey liquid. He called out to her but a cry and a howl turned his attention away. Zack had escaped the fog, but he wasn't looking so well. He was doing well to dodge Houndour's ember attacks, but he still got singed a bit.

Kenneth could only glance back and forth between the battles. Every time he tried to paid attention and come up with a plan on one side, something bad happened on the other. It wasn't long and both Lily and Zack weren't doing so well. Kenneth was worried more about Zack, being the newest member and not properly trained.

Zack stood off with Houndour again, breathing heavily. He dug his paw deeper into the ground to give himself a better footing. Not far from him Gastly lashed its incredibly long tongue out. It found its mark on Lily, causing her to shiver. He didn't have much time to think as he soon found himself surround by a purple fog once again.

'Lily's doing fine against Gastly, just a bit more and she'll probably finish it off.' He looked over at Zack. 'But I'm not sure if Zack can last against Houndour much longer. There's got to be something I can do!'

"Water Gun!"

"Leer and then Tackle from behind."

"Change it up this time with Bubble!"

"Watch out, it's attacking from behind!"

"Again, Leer!"

"Water Gun!" Lily took a deep breath, preparing another Water Gun. Once her mouth was full she started to release it, but stopped in pain. Lightning crackled around her body. 'Darn she's paralyzed!' Kenneth began to panic once again, looking back and forth at the two battles. Zack was still dodging embers when he got the idea.

"Zack, Tackle Gastly!" For the first time during the whole battle, the two black cloaked men showed some emotion. They seemed surprised at the boy's ridiculous command. None-the-less Zack followed orders and charged head first at Gastly. Houndour followed close behind and released an ember attack as Zack tackled Gastly.

Just as he had planned, Zack when right through Gastly gas body and it took on the full force of its partner's attack. Zack landed a little wobbly and spun around to face Houndour, who watched its buddy fall to the ground, fainted.

"Now, Water Gun! Full Power!" Lily once again released a large spiral of water. Houndour was caught off guard and instantly knocked out thanks to his weakness to water.

"Woohoo! Way to go." Kenneth yelled running over to his tired pokemon. He crouched down, giving both a big hug. "You two did fantastic!" He looked over at the black-cloaked men and saw them and their pokemon disappeared like smoke. They both had strange smiles on their face and one of them pointed past Kenneth.

Just ahead Kenneth could see that the man in white had lost. He was bound in place by two shadow arms that were emerging from the ground. Kenneth quickly rose to his feet, determined to help the man in white out. Sadly his body was no longer moving to his will.

"I finally have my revenge... the clan of hope dies here... my old friend... Zypher".

Seeing a quick glare from a blade in the man's hands, Kenneth quickly shut his eyes, turning his head away from the scene. After a few seconds, he glanced back up and saw that he was surrounded by 5 more cloaked men. All at once, as if they had practiced before, they released their pokemon.

Zack and Lily sprung to their feet at once, ready to defend their trainer. Kenneth just lowered his head. All hope had left him and there was nothing left but sorrow and despair, just like the land he was in. There was no way he could win…

Kenneth woke, sitting right up and screaming loud. It was so sudden that all the pokemon around the area immediately fled. Kenneth's heart was racing as fast as it had ever raced before. It literally hurt and felt as though it was quickly decaying from the inside out. He was shaking uncontrollably as his lips moved in an indistinct manner and tears began to fun down his face against his will.

For the first time in his life he had experienced true terror. And it terrified him.

"Don't let the past... become the future..."

That's when Kenneth snapped out of it and realized that he was back on Route 30. It was early and the sun was just starting to come up. He looked to his left and right to see both Lily and Zack staring up at him. He blinked a few times, still disturbed by the dream. His pokemon shared the same look. He quickly wiped away his tears, deciding that it was best to forget it for now, and jumped out of his sleeping bag. He smiled over at his pokemon.

"Got to get packing guys!" They seemed confused at the quick change of behavior in their trainer but dismissed it and watched him pack. "We've got a big day ahead of us!"

'Zypher.' He looked at the sky, glad to see the normal white clouds floating along their blue 'ocean'. 'I'm not sure why, but I know that name from somewhere.'

Once he was all packed he slung his backpack over his shoulder and whistled. Zack and Lily ran over to him and they began making their way into Route 31.

chapter 3 part two

Scythe suddenly stops himself before bursting through the mayor's door so he can listen to what the men are saying.

Through the mayors door Scythe hears the two men arguing.

"Now Mr.Mayor, wouldn't it be nice if you paid us to protect this small town here from invaders and such instead of calling us common thieves? I mean you wouldn't want the town to get a reputation for being home to a bunch of thieves would you?" Scythe hears a gruff deep voice say.

"What are you talking about?" The other older sounding man says, "Either way you will continue to terrorize anyone who walks through the town! How would giving you money help any of us?"

The deep voiced man laughs, "Well I think giving us a protection fee would help you very much actually...." Scythe hears a schwing sort of sound and a gasp from the mayor. "I mean right now we are just thieves... We could also end up being murderers if you don't pay me for your own protection."

"No.. Please..." The mayor says.

"Make your choice now!" The young man yelled and you feel the doors weigh give way underneath you. You must have accidentally turned the knob while leaning on it. Scythe gets a good look at the two men, one is an elderly old man with a bowler hat and a white mustache, most likely the mayor, and the other is a tall muscular man with a harsh face.

"Who the hell are you!?" The man says. Aiming his switchblade in Scythes direction. The man stops and laughs noticing Scythe's Pokemon and says. "Hmm... Maybe there is a better way of settling this!" He grinned and pulled out a Pokeball.

"My name is Scythe Rainer, and your going down!" Scythe exclaims as he tosses out his healed Chukapis. "PII!" Chukapis hollers as it burst from the ball. "A Pikachu huh? Thats nothing I can't handle! Lets go Rhyhorn!" The leader says as he sends out his pokemon. "RHYYYYY!" the over sized rock lizard roars as it booms from its pokeball.

"CHAAA?" Chukapis yells in horror as it sees the the size of Rhyhorn. "Haha looks like your Pikachu is a little baby?" the man laughs back at Scythe. "Chukapis it will be ok...just do your best!" Scythe happily reassures Chukapis as he rubs it's ears. "PIIKA!" Chukapis says with excitement from hearing it's trainers belief in it.

"Chukapis thundershock now"! Scythe orders. "Pikachu!" Chukapis booms as it sends its thunderschock all around Rhyhorn. "HORN!" Rhyhorn exclaims as it brushes off the attack. "Are you done kid? Haha Rhyhorn use horn attack now!" The leader commands.

"Rhyyyyyy Hoooorrr!" the stampeding Rhyhorn says as it thrusts its horn into Chuakpis chest. "Chukapis no!" Scythe blatanly yells to his pokemon as it slams it's back off the wall and falls to the ground. "Pi..." Chukapis quietly says as it begins to stand up. "This was over before it began kid! Rhyhorn use Stomp!" The man said to his pokemon. "No Chukapis jump!" Scythe hollers at Chukapis thinking fast. "Hoorr" Rhyhorn blasts as it slams itself into the wall where Chukapis was standing. "Cha!" Chukapis said as it sored into the air dodging Rhyhorns attack.

"Now Chukapis slam your tail down on it's head with Tail whip!" Scythe commanded his falling Pikachu. "KAACHU!" Chukapis screamed as it thrust it's tail into the Rhyhorns head. "Rhyyyyy" Rhyhorn said as it smacked its jaw off the ground and fell unconcious.

"What how the hell could that tiny pokemon beat my Rhyhorn?!" the man said with a confused look on his face. "Strentgh wise Chukpais was outnumbered but with a good enough strategy he wasn't!" Scythe said back confident with his strategy. "Well you won't win this battle no matter what...lets go Tyrogue!" the man then stated as he tossed out his second pokeball. "Ty Ty Ty!" the fighting pokemon said as it escaped the clutches of the pokeball.

The Mayor watched the battle silently waiting for the battle to be over. "Tyrogue use tackle!" the man said to his second pokemon. "Ty!" it said back as it begin to run at Chukapis with it's arm's flying behing its back.

"Chukapis try and stop it with thundershock!" Scythe commanded. "PIIII!" Chukapis said as it once again sent electricity flying at an opponent. "TY!" Tyrogue hollered as it pushed right through the attack and close lined Chukapis tossing it next to Scythe's legs.

"Ah Chukapis are you ok?" the boy said as he looked down at his pokemon. "pii..pii..kaaaa...!" Chukapis exhaustedly yelled as it tried to stand up but collapsed. "Ha your Pikachu is done...what else ya got kid?" the leader of the highwaymen laughed with enjoyment. "Hmmph...Chukapis take a rest buddy." Scythe said to his Pikachu ignoring the man's comment.

"Let's go Pidgey!" Scythe said as he sent out his last pokemon. "HAHAHA a Pidgey???? What are you a beginner kid?" the man laughed at Scythe not realizing he was correct. "Uhhh Ya I am...I'm the beginner whose gonna kick your ass! Pidgey use sand attack on Tyrogue!" Scythe yelled out angry at the man's words.

"PIIIDDG!" Pidgey blurted as it sent sand flying into the eyes of it's opponent. "Now use tackle!" he commanded Pidgey swiftly. "Tyrogue...?" the man said confused as he watched Scythe's Pidgey knock it out in less than ten seconds. "So how was that for beginner?" Scythe asked the man as Pidgey flew and landed on his shoulder.

"Not bad...but I got one more pokemon left! Let's go Nidoran!" the leader than said overbearingly as he sent out his final pokemon. "Nuuu Nuuu!" the small pink horn pokemon said as it flew from it's pokeball. "Lets finish this kid!" the man said as he ordered his Nidoran to use Focus Energy.

"Pidgey use sand attack to stop him from focusing his energy!" Scythe commanded his Pidgey!" "Now Nidoran dodge and use peck!" the man ordered Nidoran. "Huh!" Scythe yelped as his Pidgey was hit with a horn straight on. "Piii piid!" Pidgey said as it luckily stayed in the sky. "Now Nidoran finish it with another peck!" The man awkwardly said to his pokemon.

"Pidgey dodge and use tackle from the side!" Scythe swiftly ordered Pidgey. "PIIIDGG!" Pidgey exictedly said as it flew under the Nidoran's peck attack and slammed into it's side. "Uh Nidoran get up and use peck again." the man once again commanded. "Pidgey go full on with another tackle!" Scythe exclaimed figuring this was his only way to end the battle.

"PIIIIIDGGEEYY!" "NUUUU NUUU!" both pokemon hollered as they met face to face with their last attacks. "Pooof!" the two pokemon collided and a cloud of dust covered the mayors office. "Ahh!" all three men said as they covered their eyes.

"Nooo!" the leader said as the smoke cleared and saw Nidoran was unconcious and Pidgey was barley able to stand but still was. "Haha alright Pidgey!" Scythe joyfully screamed as he ran over and returned Pidgey to it's pokeball.

"So much for beginner huh?" Scythe laughed mocking the man. The man then got angry and picked Scythe up by the collar," Your lucky I am a man of my honor kid, because if I hadn't been!" He holds the knife at your throat and sheaths it while laughing.

"Come on boys!" He says walking out and the two men Scythe had beaten before come out from the bushes and follow behind their leader. Scythe turns to the mayor who thanks him and begins shaking his hand.

"As gratitude for stoping those men I would like to give a prize!" the mayor graciously offers Scythe. "A Prize? uh sure?" Scythe weirdly answers back waiting to see what it is.

Damion walked down a thing ribbon of yellow dirt that was the road that lead to the next city, his two small pokemon shaking their heads to the beat of the music that was being released from Damion's earphones.

'I wonder if this adventure will still be safe. For both my pokemon and myself.' Damion thought to himself as he remembered the scene that appeared before him. A horrible man in black, and a murdered man in white.

'Zypher...' Damion looked up at the sky, his eyes closed, trying to remember what that name meant to him.

The boy stopped in his tracks and looked down to see a large white sign covered in thin plant roots and dirt. Small leaves falling off of the sign every so often.

The boy kneeled down and wiped the dirt off of the sign as his two pokemon pecked and picked off the plant roots. The sign had large read letters, Damion smiled as he read the sign. He looked up and walked past the sign:

Route 31

"Well guys, we're one step closer to Violet City! Which means, one step closer to our first Gym Battle." The boy smiled as the two pokemon flexed, or tried to anyways.

"Haha. You know, my grandpa told me that Badges were made from a special mineral that has the power to both power up pokemon and make them obey a trainer." Damion told the pokemon, who were in awe.

"Hyper Beam!!"

"Counter with Blast Burn!!"

Damion's eyes quickly shot open, the scene before him was intense and entertaining. In the large field that was Route 31 there were two trainers stood there. They seemed to be veteran trainers, one had jagged red hair while the other trainer had brown jagged hair.

"Looks guys, a battle!" Damion was in awe, he loved battles. The two pokemon were amazed at the power of the two dragon types.

A large orange dragon with yellow antennas and bright blue eyes floated a few feet off of the ground. It's large wing spand indicated its health and age. The Dragonite and its trainer stared down the challengers.

A large orange dragon with horns and wings, "My grandpa has a Charizard too! I really wanta Johto fire pokemon." Damion's eyes glittered as the Charizard released a large blast of heat, Blast Burn.

The large tower of inferno clashed with a super charge beam known as Hyper Beam, the collision caused wind to whip up in every direction. Damion was fixated on the battle when an old man placed his hand on his shoulder,

"AH!" Damion fell to the side and then adjusted his earphones,

"You startled me." The boy said. The man chuckled as he stroked his long white beard as his dark eyes gazed at the battle, the sun reflecting off of his bald head. He adjusted his large blue cane as looked down at Damion,

"Ah! Power!" The man said, gazing at the battle. "It feels great to wield it...but it does come at a price." The man continued his speech, Damion nodded.

"Sure. Power is great." The boy scoffed.

"Sometimes it forces you to choose the wrong side of something and make a bad decision, but its worth it to have that feeling of overwhelming power… wouldn't you agree?" The man tapped his cane against Damion's shoulder. The boy closed his eyes and hummed softly,

"I guess. But power isn't all that matters of course, there are many other qualities in a person or pokemon that are better. Friendship, kindness, bravery, love..." The boy stated mildly. The old man seemed taken aback by the response and quietly walked away.

Damion heard the old man's steps as he looked back at the battle field, both of the dragons began to flap their wings. The grass underneath them flaring up in the wind, the dragons flew off in the horizon.

"What a shame. I really want to see a battle." Damion sighed, he took off his earphones and let them hang around his neck. His PokeGear opened to a map of Johto, he looked up to see a passing by trainer walking down the road.

"Haha! Your my next challenger, it's your unlucky day!" Damion yelled out as he barged down the hill, he ran across the grassy field and stopped behind the trainer.

"Hey!" This sudden outburst caused the trainer to turn around in shock,

"Let's battle!" The boy yelled out, the opposing boy smirked. He wore a purple robe of some sort with silky white under shirts. His sleek black hair shimmered in the light, he wore shiny black shoes.

"Sure. My name's Ray, I'll be your executor today. Damion seemed shock and scoffed,

"Sure." The boy's exchanged looks, Damion's eyes were filled with coldness.

"Gastly!! I choose you!!!"

"GO, Taro!!!!!!"

Flashes of red lit up the grassy area. A powerful looking ghost emerged from the laser blast, dusk-colored skin glowing with gaseous heat. His enormous white eyes stared down Damion, and a menacing growl rose up from his mouth and bubbled out of his fanged maw.

<Gastlyyyyy.>

Damion's Larvitar, Taro, sprang up with malicious buoyancy and bounced on the ground, using his signature chest puff and doing his best to look both intimidating and grotesque at the same time.

Damion flipped open his pokedex, since he had battled a Gastly before, all of its battling techniques were recorded in his pokedex.

"Taro, Bite." Damion's command was level-headed.

"Gasto, use a Lick attack and restrain him." The opposing trainer in purple, Ray, struggled to match Damion's calm demeanor.

The Larvitar leaped in the air, his legs thumped noisly as he landed on the floor a few feet away from the Gastly and gained speed, rocketing toward Gasto. The Gastly narrowed his menacing eyes, waiting until Taro came within range.

Just as the two were about to collide, Gasto disappeared into thin air, re-appearing behind the small Larvitar. His lolling tongue sprang into action, and like a writhing snake, wrapped the Larvitar in a cocoon of slimy pink coils.

Taro hit the ground heavily, shuddering in disgust as Gasto's tongue withdrew from his skin.

"Now Gasto! Night Shade!!!!"

"Taro! Pull yourself together!!" Damion shouted urgently.

Gasto smirked and brought his hands together, dark purple sparks crackling in his palms. He fired a a blast of purple energy at Taro and watched as the Larvitar grunted in pain. The ghost pokemon danced backwards, laughing with glee.

"C'mon Taro! Screech!!"

"GASTO! Use Night Shade and fight off the sound waves!!"

Taro spat a series of loud sound waves into the air, and it traveled with stunning speed toward its target. Gasto gulped, and gathered maroon-tinted shadow energy into his hands, aiming for the sound waves.

"Taro! BITE!"

"What?!" The boy named Ray spat, watching as Taro leaped over the Gastly and bit brutally into the shocked Gasto's body. Gasto's body crumpled, and the Larvitar retreated as the Sound Waves came behind the Gengar and seared his ethereal skin.

"Gotcha. Bite!" The Larvitar stepped quietly over the injured Gastly and snickered as it quickly delivered the final blow. Gastly's body began to dissolve when the boy threw a pokeball to recall its defeated Gasto.

"Heh. Not bad, he was my strongest pokemon. But not my only one." The boy stated plainly.

"Hoot!"

"Bothersome." Ray yawned widely, staring down the own pokemon fluttering on the opposite of the field.

"Hey, this battle isn't over yet! C'mon." Damion reprimanded, and the boy shrugged and assumed a battle stance.

Damion lowered her head, eyes staring up from under the edge of his orange points.

"Hoot, Hypnosis."

"Vulpo! Confuse Ray right back at it!"

~Fox Pokemon~
~It controls balls of fire. As it grows, its six tails split from their tips to make more tails.~

Hoot let a ring of silent blue light shoot from his eyes, arching in lazy loops toward the fire pokemon.

The Vulpix's Hypnosis collided with Hoot's, and the two attacks struggled against each other before they both fizzled out, energy wasted.

"Now Vulpo! Ember!"

"Hoot, Growl! That should lower the attack power!!"

Taro's scream collided with the fireball, and Vulpo's rapid bursts of flame missed their target as they shrunk.

"Real trainers don't communicate so loudly with their pokemon, Sugimori. In fact, they barely communicate at all…."

Vulpo's tails erupted with flames that danced on the air. The ensuing wreck tangled Hoot in painful spheres of fire and brimstone. The owl pokemon running in circles to stem the damage.

"For someone so young, you sure can preach." Damion spat back as he looked at his pokedex.

~Small spheres of ghostly fire engulf the enemy and automatically inflict Burn.~

"Testy, testy." Ray tutted again.

"Hoot, Tackle."

The owl pokemon charge at Vulpo, and sliced through the atmosphere as he made its way to Vulpo with blinding speed.

Vulpo staggered as the heavy bird struck its body. Her tender body now bruised and cut up.

Ray watched on, biting the inside of his lip hard. Damion chuckled,

"Tackle!"

"Get up Vulpo!"

The tiny owl struck the already downed fox pokemon and caused it to slide across the floor, cutting up its body even more. Vulpo ended at the feet of his trainer who snarled,

"Return!"

The boy walked over to Damion and Taro and chuckled as he placed his arms behind his head,

"I-I can't believe you beat me. Well, nice battle!" The boy shook Damion's hand.

"You're the strongest enemy we've encountered, Level 15 adn 14. Luckily, he was weak against the dark type attack Bite. Which is Taro's specialty." The Larvitar smiled happily,

"But I have to ask you something, how'd you Vulpix know Hypnosis."

"Egg moves. Just ask the old couple about it. Anyways, looks like I still need training even after winning the Zephyr Badge. Well, see you around." The boy walked off, leaving Damion stunned.

"Old couple? Zephyr...Badge? He won the Violet Gym?" Damion's eyes quickly shut once more as he placed his earphones on his head and smiled down at his pokemon.

"Hehehe."

The old man who spoke with Damion before was standing on a hill, closely observing the battle. The man turned around.

"HAHAHAHA!!!" His laughter became more deep and raspy as he flung his arm, creating a white cloak to float in the wind. The man turned around, his eye shimmering, and dissapeared.

Damion looked back and shook off the feeling he was being watched, he passed by a small building and opened the double doors.

The beatiful sight of Violet City opened in front of him. Traditional Japanese homes dotted around the city, around a Pokemon Center and Pokemart. Two large toweres in the distance, a large building seemed to loom over Damion.

"Here we come...Violet Gym..." Damion said confidently, his two pokemon smirking.

As he walked, Sahib's thoughts were full of confusion. He had no idea what to do. Something was wrong—that much, he knew. The saying had taken hold on him. If the darkness could keep the dead alive, then what was left for those who weren't surrounded by darkness? Or is that even what it was supposed to mean? Sahib didn't know, but as he walked he found himself with a thirst for wanting to understand.

Soon he came across something he didn't expect; two trainers were battling. The part he hadn't expected was the fact that one had a Dragonair whilst the other had a Charizard. Sahib stared at the battle, almost able to feel the passion both trainers poured into it. Moments later, Sahib felt a tap on his shoulder. He blinked and looked down, slightly surprised to see an old man that looked rather short standing there. Sahib blinked slowly. He had a long white beard and was using a cane to help himself get around.

"Ah power…it sure does feel great to hold it…Power does come at a cost sometime, sometimes it forces you to choose the wrong side of something and make a bad decision, but its worth it to have that feeling of overwhelming power… wouldn't you agree?"

"Power…sometimes…" Sahib said slowly. "It's not worth it." When he looked up after his declaration, he noticed the man was gone. Sahib whipped his head back towards the battle, and noticed that both trainers were gone as well. Sahib glanced behind him and stared long and hard in the direction where the man had wandered off, wondering about the true meaning of power—and what exactly it would take to achieve it. Soon his gaze was on the ground.

Sahib shivered as a rush of some sort of energy went coursing through his body. Suddenly he had a compelling urge to battle. He shuddered violently and his hands clenched. God…what's wrong with me? He thought, panting lightly. Sahib then took off running down the trail, keeping an eye open for trainers along the way. Finally he came upon a boy training with a rather tough looking bird type. Sahib stared at the Spearow. Then he ran towards the boy.

"You!" Sahib cried, grabbing the boy's shirt and yanking on it. The boy cried out, clearly startled. His Spearow cawed and flew in a dive towards Sahib. "I want to battle."

"Alright, alright," the boy said, tearing Sahib's hands off his shirt. "What kind of battle? I can go for either single or double."

"Double battle." Sahib had already made his choice. He knew what he wanted. He needed Sentret to be trained up, and Cyndaquil needed to be as well. Especially if we're going to battle the gym leader in Violet City, Sahib thought. Sweat was beaded on his forehead, so Sahib quickly wiped it away. The boy looked at him with a slight uneasiness in his expression and then slowly nodded. "I'm Sahib, by the way," Sahib said, in a less scary tone than before. He slowly backed away from the kid, taking up an opposite position on the field.

"Heh…James," the boy stated, a wide grin on his face. He grinned widely. Sahib looked at his messy black hair and a small smile appeared on his face. "Think your Pokémon are strong enough to tackle mine? Well, you haven't seen nothing yet! That Spearow wasn't even my strongest!" James proclaimed.

"Good! I've been itching for a strong battle," Sahib called across the grassy field.

"Then let's go!" James called, grabbing two Pokeballs off of his belt. Spearow was perched on a branch, happily sitting this particular battle out. Moments and two flashes of white light later, a Pidgeotto and a Caterpie were standing in the middle of the field. Sahib's smirk slipped off his face as he eyed the Pidgeotto rather nervously. A plan was quickly forming in his mind as he grabbed Cyndaquil and Sentret's Pokeballs.

"Well, here I go as well!" Sahib called, tossing them. Cyndaquil appeared looking as confident as ever. Sentret stood up on his tail, ready to tackle the problem. Alright…Caterpie is a piece of cake for Cyndaquil. Sentret will just have to handle that Pidgey for a while, Sahib thought. "Cyndaquil, open with quick attack!" Sahib shouted. "Sentret, back Cyndaquil up with a quick attack of your own!"

"Ha! Pidgeotto, why don't you show 'em a real quick attack!" James shouted, pointing towards Cyndaquil. Pidgeotto swooped in and, before Cyndaquil could even move, slammed against him in a powerful quick attack. Sahib's teeth clenched slightly, but he relaxed when he saw Sentret leap up and slam into Pidgeotto. Caterpie shot a burst of string towards Sentret, entangling him in a nasty web.

"Cyndaquil, burn off that string with an ember attack!" Sahib shouted. Cyndaquil nodded and quickly burned through the string. Flames danced along on top of the string and then suddenly they burned Caterpie. Caterpie broke its hold and shook itself, wincing from the pain of the string.

"No worries," James said. "Pidgeotto, go for quick attack again on Cyndaquil!" James shouted. Pidgeotto quickly flashed over to Cyndaquil and slammed into it once more, sending it flying back even further away. Sahib clenched his fist.

"Sentret, hit Pidgeotto with quick attack again! Keep it occupied!" Sahib called to Sentret. Sentret nodded and leapt up again, slamming into Pidgeotto and knocking it out of the sky. By this time, Cyndaquil had gotten back up. It looked beaten up, but ready to go some more. "Cyndaquil, get Caterpie with another ember!" Sahib shouted, pointing at the Caterpie.

This time Cyndaquil shot a larger flame of an ember towards Caterpie. It hit directly, and just when it looked like Caterpie was going to go down, Pidgeotto slammed into Cyndaquil. Sentret bounced up and knocked Pidgeotto away quickly.

"Cyndaquil!" Cyndaquil cried out. Suddenly it began to glow bright white. Sahib's eyes widened as he watched. Cyndaquil's nose grew shorter, but his body grew longer. Moments later, a Quilava was standing in place of Cyndaquil. "Lava! Quil lava, lava!" Quilava cried. Sahib smirked at James, who looked a bit paler.

"Alright, Caterpie use string shot on Sentret! Pidgeotto quick attack Quilava now!" James shouted, forming a strategy of his own. Pidgeotto slammed against Quilava, knocking it aside. Caterpie's string tangled around Sentret, effectively holding it still so it couldn't come to Quilava's aid. "Now Caterpie, tackle Quilava! Pidgeotto, use another quick attack!"

Quilava's evolutionary power was rather short lived. Moments later, Pidgeotto smacked it against a tree in another quick attack. After that, Caterpie finished Quilava off with a thorough tackle. Sahib stared, mouth open. He looked at James who had a small smirk on his face. Sahib recalled Quilava and looked at Sentret who had finally broken free of the hold that the string had on him. Well…this is it. I have to faint Caterpie first, then focus on Pidgeotto. Caterpie is mostly wounded anyway, so another good strong attack should finish it off, Sahib figured, eyeing the battlefield in a slightly nervous way. He had a funny feeling this wasn't going to end well for him.

"Sentret, quick attack Caterpie and finish it off! After that, use a quick attack on Pidgeotto!" Sahib shouted. Sentret nodded curtly and then leapt towards Caterpie in a dead sprinting attack. It slammed into Caterpie, knocking the Pokémon backwards and sending it rolling in a heap towards James. Sahib let out a breath, knowing that Caterpie was down for the count. Sentret wasted no time. It flew at Pidgeotto, but Pidgeotto dodged and flew upwards just out of Sentret's reach.

"Nice one, Pidgeotto!" James called happily. "Now get that Sentret with your own quick attack! Follow that up with gust!"

Pidgeotto dove down in an even quicker dive that the Spearow had earlier. Sahib clenched his teeth, ordering a dodge. Sentret leapt aside, causing Pidgeotto to miss and slam into the ground. Its beak was stuck. Sahib saw an opportunity and took it. He ordered a quick attack and tackle follow up. Sentret slammed into Pidgeotto's side, causing its beak to get dislodged from the ground and it to spiral across the grassy plain. Then Sentret slammed into Pidgeotto one more time, hitting it into a tree. Sentret leaped away, waiting for another attack. Pidgeotto didn't try again. Instead, it slumped to the ground looking rather beaten up.

"Aw man," James grumbled, recalling Pidgeotto. He looked at Sahib. Sahib let out a breath, feeling a bit of the funky feeling from earlier leave him. "Nice battle, man. Hey, are you going to Violet City?" James asked, jogging up to Sahib. Sahib nodded slowly, recalling Sentret and smiling as he thought of Cyndaquil's evolution. "I live there! How about we go together?" James suggested, a wide grin on his face. Sahib looked down at the kid, and saw something in him.

"Sure, why not," Sahib said, nodding his head. He put Sentret's Pokeball back on the hook where it belonged next to Quilava. A twig snapped, causing Sahib to glance over in the direction of the forest. He thought he saw a flash of white, but then suddenly it was gone just as quick as it had appeared.

So they walked in silence the rest of the way to Violet City. It wasn't very further, but Sahib was rather exhausted. James made small talk as they neared, until finally they were inside it. He pointed out the Pokémon Center first, and then said a bit more and ran off. Sahib presumed it was to his home, so instead of dillydallying on the streets, he headed towards the Violet Pokémon Center.
