I think in the movie 8 intro it says pokemon are from earth long long time ago?
Not sure though
Most of the new movies have that intro now I find. Umm.. well actually some arent from Earth, like say Diagura and Parukia etc. But Lapras is probably from Earth.

Well, then you could compare to Earth animals like the whale and the elephant for size. Lapras could be a combination of both.Lapras also is gigantic, that isn't usual for earth Pokemon..

Actually you dont. I think it was said somewhere in with an ep, or the Pokedex that Lapras were endangered species due to over-hunting.

I believe that Lapras is most related to the Loch Ness monster, which of course is said to be very similar to a certain sea-dwelling dinosuar which went extinct ages ago. If this was true., Lapras would of became smaller over time I think.
