I just started a new game on Fire Red, and I need some help deciding what the last member on my team will be. I can't trade, so Pokemon like Sandslash or Gengar are out of the question. The reason I've posted this thread is because I think the pokes I can choose from are rather...Limited.

    Current Team:

    Squirtle
    Modest
    -Tackle
    -Tail Whip
    -Bubble

    Spearow
    Hardy
    -Peck
    -Growl

    PLanned Team:

    Blastoise
    Modest
-Surf Pretty obvious, it's powerful and I'm going to need it
-Ice Beam Takes out a lot of things
-Bite For hitting ghosts and psychics
    -?????

    Fearow
    Hardy
    -Fly, because I need it.
-Drill peck Won't be using fly that much in battles
-Steel wing A bit of variety wouldn't hurt, it's not like he has any other options.
-Return/quick attack Not sure which one yet.

    Electabuzz
    -Thunderbolt Obvious
    -Brick Break more type coverage
    -Psychic Because he can
    -Quick Attack

    Flareon
    -Flamethrower STAB
-Shadow Ball wouldn't want this TM to go to waste
    -Quick Attack/Return
-Dig It isn't EQ, but it'll do.

    Scyther
    -Swords Dance Lovely move
-Slash/quick attack/Return In need of a normal move
-Wing Attack/Aerial Ace PP vs Acc...
-????? too bad he doesn't have that much options.

Well, There you have it. I don't give much about natures, I won't train things like Modest Fearow, but I'll be satisfied with Docile or Impish. any suggestions on natures are welcome though. I'm sure whether I'll really use Scyther or not, his attacking movepool is rather limited. Anyway please take into account that I don't have unlimited TMs and that be I won't able to breed.

A good hearty grass type could help you here <: Vileplume (Terrible movepool but still) could help :o orrr maybe a Nice lushious victreebel.

I'm trying to think of G-Types here, n.n.

The egg one <: can't spell its name :o

    -Psychic
    -Giga Drain
    -Sleep Powder
    -A screen (Light/Reflect.)

A Pokemon, such as Kadabra would help you here.
Other than Flareon's dig, which won't hit most of the poison types in the game anyway, you don't have much coverage against them.
Kadabra also has the capability for a versatile and powerful, the SpAtk stat to pull it off.

I've used Vileplume before and he gets the job done pretty well, I don't want to use it this time though, since it already was on my last team. I can't get Victreebel since it's Leafgreen exclusive. And I hate Exeggutor...

Wouldn't Hypno be better for this role? Kadabra got amazing speed and sp atk, but it is so frail... It also doesn't have any other special attacking options other then Psychic.

I did notice that 3 of your pokemon on your planned team are weak to Electric (Blastoise, Fearow, and Scyther). Why not replace Scyther to cut down on your Electric weakness.

Rhydon or Dugtrio might help. I like to use Dugtrio as you can catch it fairly early and use it against Surge. But Rhydon is far more bulky and withstands more.

hahahah lol ive also been searching for a good grass in firered i ended up using tangela :P you know what beside his speed she's pretty good XD

Dont use hypno lol hypno is not so good in 3 gen :is more of an attacker than a sp.attaker.

anw here'S my suggestion for your pokemon

    Blastoise:

    -Surf
    -ice beam
    -Bite
-Earthquake/Hydro canon (you mai need a powerfull atack when in a thight spot)

    Fearow

    -Fly
    -Drill peck
    -Steel wing
-return/mirror move (fearow is already fast and mirror move can be very usefull smtime)

    Electubuzz:

    -tunderbolt
    -brick break
    -psychic
-mega punch/thunder wave (forget quick attack lol he's already fast enough)

    Flareon is good

scyther (if you choose to keep it)

    -sword dance
    -slash
-arial ace (same power as wing but always hit lol)
-hyper-beam/hidden power bug (im not sure if you can find it in firered)

    hope i helped

@gamefan1: Thanks for your suggestions, but I think Hypno is fine, it has worked for me several times before. It can take a few hits and is able to use both physical and special moves.

This is what I'm planning to use now:

    Blastoise
    Modest
    -Surf
    -Ice Beam
    -Bite
    -Earthquake

    Fearow:
    Hardy
    -Drill Peck
    -Return
    -Steel Wing
    -Return

    Flareon:
    -Flametrower
    -Shadow Ball
    -Return
    -Dig

    Electabuzz
    -Thunderbolt
    -Brick break
    -Psychic
    -Return

I'll be using those 4 for sure. I decided to drop Scyther from the team, his attacking options go a far as Fearow's. I've got a list with viable replacements though.

    Muk/Wheezing
    -Sludge bomb
    -Flamethrower
    -Thunderbolt
    -Brick Break/ Shadow ball
Though their appearances aren't appealing, they'll certainly be useful.

    Hypno
    -Psychic
    -Brick Break
    -Shadow Ball
    -?????return perhaps?

    Rhydon
    Rock Head
    -Double Edge
    -Earthquake
    -Rock slide/Blast
    -Megahorn

    Any comments/suggestions?

    Current team:
    Spoiler:

Definetly use Hypno and Rhydon. I'm not too big of a fan of poison types, though. Maybe Snorlax? With Rest it makes a nice Status absorber. It's also got pretty good bulk as well.
