Century

Century nodded as he climbed upon the old wooden raft, shaking slightly. Abel and his Shinx looked happy, as Century flashed a quick grin. The raft the two trainers climbed upon wasn't the most stable raft in the world, but it got them to their destination.

Within a couple of hours, Century and Abel had arrived at Insect Island.

"Here you go boys, good luck on your adventure." The old man who's name was discovered to be Thomas announced.

Exchanging pleasantries, both Century and Abel abandoned the boat as it travelled onto its next destination. "Maybe, just maybe I'll be able to find a water-typed pokemon here so we don't have to rely on others." Century thought to himself before turning back to Abel.

"While we're here, we might as well see what each other is made of," Century said with a slight grin on his face, brushing his hand to the inside of his leather coat, grasping at his pokeballs. He waits for Abel to either accept or decline the challenge.

The speed of the trip was surprisingly satisfying; within some hours, the Insect Island's forests stood in front of him, and so did his next goal: to transverse it.

After thanking the old man - apparently named Thomas - the two trainers started walking towards the woods. He was expecting something quick, since Pokabu would probably be able to take down most of the opponents.

What he didn't expect was the sudden challenge Century proposed, quickly reaching for the Pokéballs inside his coat.

"A challenge, eh?" Abel said, reaching for the slingbag as well to take out another Pokéball. He threw a quickly look at Chunk; the latter had been gazing restlessly at him since the proposition was made. "Eheh, eager as always, huh, Chunk?" He looked up to Century, showing the other Pokéball. "How's a double battle?"

While walking in the forest with Mika and Serena in her hands, Miharu spotted two Metapods. Perhaps this would be some good experience for Mars and Ryuu. After all, Metapods could really only use Harden and tackle and both pokemon are fast enough to dodge tackles.

Miharu unclipped two pokeballs and tossed them at the two metapods. "Ryuu, bite. Grab onto that metapod and do not let go. Mars, Astonish. Again and again and again." When the pokeballs released the two pokemon, they immediately started using their respective attacks. Ryuu had a hold on the metapod while Mars just kept on using astonish on the thing. Desperately, they both tried to use harden, but to no avail. They were quickly defeated by the onslaught of the attacks and fainted.

Mika frowned. "Do you have to be so mean to the poor Metapods?"

Both Bagon and Croagunk came back to Miharu with a pleased expression. Miharu kneeled down and set Serena down who was chirping in congratulations and started petting both Bagon and Croagunk. "You guys did good. I'm very impressed. Although it could have been quicker, you guys did well for your first battle. Nice job guys."

Both Ryuu and Mars made happy noises and Miharu returned them both. Serena was then picked up again by Miharu.

"Shall we go now?" asked Miharu.

Mika nodded. "We should be reaching a clearing soon in this forest so we should be able to rest there for the night."

They both continued walking on.

((OOC: Yeah, I know. My battles are weird. -.- Sorry it's a bit short, but it was against a metapod. What are they going to do? Harden us to death?))

Century flashed at slight grin at Abel before agreeing, "A double battle it is." Century pulled out two pokeballs from the inside of his coat pocket before throwing them in the direction of Abel.

Out came Century's Mankey and Chikorita. Abel's Shinx opposed them, as Abel reached in his pocket before summoning his Pokabu. Century eyed down the opposing pokemon quickly, before cooly issuing commands to his pokemon.

"Mankey, use Low Kick on Shinx! Chikorita! Use your Tackle attack on Pokabu!" Century said sternly, and his pokemon obeyed.

"Chunk! Dodge the low kick and retaliate with a tackle! Pokabu! Do the same!" Abel calls out, and his pokemon obey as both Century's Mankey and Chikorita's attacks miss.

Chunk crashes into Mankey, sending him stumbling a short distance on the beach, as Chikorita holds its ground against the Pokabu, only sliding back a little bit. Century analyzes the scene, and issues more commands to his pokemon.

"Mankey! Use Low Kick on Chunk!" Century commands, and Mankey flies toward the electric type pokemon before delivering a kick to the small pokemon, sending him sliding into the sand.

"Super Effective." Century thought to himself, with a smirk on his face. But he also realized that his Chikorita was weak against Abel's Pokabu.

"Chikorita, use Leer on Pokabu!" Century calls, and Chikorita stares down Pokabu, taking it off of its guard for a short second, before Abel yells out opposing commands.

"Chunk, use Tackle on Mankey again! Pokabu! Do the same!" Abel calls out, as Century watches his Mankey get tackled from one direction from Abel's Pokabu, before being sent in the opposite direction by Chunk. Mankey lays face down on the sand for a couple of moments, before slowly getting back to his feet. A dazed Mankey looks around, as Century dishes out more commands.

"Come on Mankey! Give it everything you have, Low Kick on Pokabu! Chikorita! Tackle that Pokabu!" Century calls out, stealing a page out of Abel's book. Both Mankey and Chikorita charge toward Pokabu with their respective attacks, before it is sent flying by a duel Tackle-Low Kick combo.

The Pokabu looks slightly exhausted, as it heaves itself off the ground with a little trouble. Chunk looks eager to pounce, as Abel yells, "Chunk! Tackle Mankey!"

Before Century can respond, Chunk smashes itself into Mankey, sending it skimming across the surface of the sand.

"A clean knock out," Century thought, "I had better step up my game." He reaches inside of his leather coat and pulls out Mankey's pokeball, before retrieving it from the field and back into the pokeball, before placing it back on the inside of his coat.

"Alright Chikorita, it's just you now!" Century calls out, trying to encourage his grass type pokemon. "Use Tackle on Pokabu, as fast as you can!" Century commands, and his pokemon obeys, before slamming itself into the unaware Pokabu, knocking it flat on its back. Century waits for it to get to its legs, but the fire-typed pokemon lays unmoving.

"A critical hit," Century sighs, thanking his lucky stars. Chunk and Chikorita stare at each other from across the sand, initiating the exact same activity that Century and Abel are partaking in.

"Your move, Abel." Century speaks, waiting for a response.

The battle hadn't been easy for Abel and his Pokémon's side, but especially Pokabu's; Chikorita and Mankey had given their all on him, which just contributed for the loss.
Chunk was now all that was left in his party, but so was Chikorita for the opposing trainer.

"Pokabu, get back!" Abel shouted, holding the Pokéball in the Tepig's direction; after beign called in, he put the Pokéball away and turned to Century with a wide grin; he wasn't willing to give up, especially when the situation was just heating up.

Chikorita was going to be a tough foe, even though Abel knew that from the start. "Starter Pokémon", like they were called, were always of the strong kind.

"Alright, Chunk! Go in for the Tackle!" As soon as the command was issued, Chunk darted off towards the Chikorita, whom Century had also commanded to use Tackle simultaneously.

The two Pokémon ran into one another in the middle of the improvised field, the collision sending the two in opposite directions.

"Do it again!" Abel yelled out, while Century seemed to remain quite for a moment.

Chunk did as commanded and started running towards the immobile Chikorita, when century's voice was finally heard:

"Now dodge it and use Tackle!"

And much for Abel's dismay, the Chikorita did leap sideways and tackle Chunk on the side, which sent the Shinx flying against the sand, almost beaten up.

"Get up, chunk! Come on!" Abel tried to reach out for the Pokémon, but to no avail.

Taking advantage of the moment, Century commanded yet another Tackle; Chikorita immediately obeyed and landed the move, tossing Chunk even farther away across the sand, throwing into the air a cloud of dust.

As the cloud settled, Chunk could still be seen trying to get up, his legs trembling violently to support his weakened body. For a moment, Abel actually thought they'd have a chance.

But just then, the Pokémon completely fell to the ground like a castle made of cards, exhausted from the battle. His trainer stood still for a moment, as if trying to figure out what had happened in such a simple situation.

"We... we lost." He finally admitted, walking to Chunk's side to pick him up. He was indeed completely wasted, nearly unable to open his eyes and look up at his trainer. "You did good, though; You're deserving some rest."

And with that, he returned the Pokémon back to his Pokéball, putting it away.

"Congratulations on the battle; deceiving move that was when you dodged that Tackle." He then said, walking to Century and stretching a hand to shake.

I ought to write about this.

Century

Century walked towards Abel and accepted his handshake, as both trainers look each other in the eye.

"It was a good battle," Century speaks in hindsight, "But we both have a lot of work to do."

Century could see Abel nod, as he continues. "But, we had best find our way through these forests and catch up to everyone else."

"Caterpie!" Century's Caterpie exclaimed in agreement as he waited for a response from Abel.

((OOC: I know Pokabu fainted and supposedly you can't use items like Potions on fainted Pokémon in the game, but can we skip those mechanics a bit outside battles? Because otherwise I'd need to have Abel 'black out'.))

"You got that right." Abel agreed, searching the insides of his slingbag for whatever item he could use, finding a Potion after some digging up. "This should work for now."

He took out Pokabu's Pokéball and released the wounded Pokémon in his arms, immediately spraying the Potion on him.

The Pokémon started to breathe a bit faster, which was definitely a sign that the item was working.

"I'll use Pokabu during our trip into the forest." He said, putting the Pokémon down. He still looked a bit hurt, but Abel knew he was fit for a battle. "We should get going!"

I'd totally help make the evil team.

Using authentic, mostly-grammatically-correct Latin, I present to you...

Manus Maleficus! Team Nefarious, now in Latin! Really, Nefarious Hand or Nefarious Band, but... pretty much the same thing...

(j/k about the name; also, helpful vocab note to new learners of Latin - manus, manus is IVth decl., but maleficus is a Ist/IInd decl. adjective or a IInd decl. noun, so be careful when conjugating!)

---

The day declined and nightfall closed on Mystic Island, staining the clouds with a beautiful spectrum of vibrant colors, ranging from shades of deep orange to those of dark violet; he gazed up at the sky wistfully, feeling a cool night breeze already creeping in from the coast. If one asked him whether he missed his family and his friends (who were working already, some of them, or more often studying in various universities), he would say, yes, he did miss them, but not so much that he wished he wasn't a trainer any more.

Family members aside, there was one particular person that he could not forget about completely on any day of the week; a childhood friend, a person who he often joked with and discussed the issues of his life with; a person who he had shared his innermost self with at times, and who he had experienced many, many things with. It was partly because of something he said a long time ago to that person that he was journeying now, and he would not cease to do so until he had achieved his goals.

But enough about that; he smiled slightly, breaking away from his thoughts and memories. The present. That is what matters right now.

He had made his way into a Pokemon Centre an hour or so earlier, but was not very hungry and so did not decide to obtain food from the cafeteria. He thought that it was likely a good idea to do so now, and headed inside.

Danmaku. Ryokuu. Um... Hagane. He blinked. Only Danmaku and Ryokuu need food, I think... Hagane would need either minerals or electrical waves instead, but I have no idea. He was handed two dishes of Pokemon food and a dish of minerals by the cafeteria attendants, and ambivalently fed the food to his Pokemon, giving the minerals to the obviously inorganic Hagane.

He quickly demolished a bowl of tonkotsu ramen, and after running a hundred or so rounds on Rettan's simulation system on his laptop using his new Pokemon, weighing their type advantages, he drifted to sleep, seated in an armchair.

That Fighting-type weakness... shall I head to Insect Island first? That would make a decent starting point, I suppose, and Danmaku should be quite effective there.

=day two tba=

Sara hummed a low tune as she continued to walk down the path through the forest. Sky looked up at his trainer as she did this and tried to hum along with her. Sara looked down at the baby dragon as he let out some squeeks inbetween something that sounded like a purr. Night rolled her eyes and seemed to mutter something under her breath. Sara moved her head back and grinned widely at the very serious cat behind her.

"Ah come on Night, you know your jealous!" When she got a grunt, Sara just had to laugh. Then there came the every familier rustling sound that made them all stop. Sure enough, a couple more bugs appeared. This time it was a Weedle and another Bachura. Sara grinned when she saw the Pokemon, which only grew when she saw her Pokemon get ahead of her and into a fighting position right away.

"Nice, you guys are learning!" Sara said with a laugh. "Alright then. Night, use Scratch on the Weedle! Sky, use Wrap on the same Pokemon!" Sara wanted to get rid of the Weedle before it could poison anyone.

Night was quick to react, running up and scratching at the worm, making it cry out in pain. Then Sky went up and trapped the bug in his long body. This caused the worm to cry out more in pain. The Bachura didn't like seeing its companion in this much pain and shot a Leech Life pin at Sky, causing the dragon to cry out and let go of the Weedle.

"Quick, Night, use another Scratch!" Sara yelled.

Night didn't even think twice, she just ran at the worm and scratched it again, knocking it out. The Bachura glared at Night and was about to shot another Leech Life at her when Sky warp himself around it, squeezing hard. The Bachura let out a cry of pain and instead used its Leech Life on Sky, once again making him let go.

"Night, another Scratch on the Bachura! Sky, use Thunder Wave on it!" Sara ordered.

Sky let out a wave of electricity that hit the bug, making its muscle spasm. Night then ran in and scratched the bug. Though the Bachura cried out in pain, it could not counter. With an evil smirk, Night ran in and scratched the bug again, knocking it out.

"Nice going you two," Sara said with a smile as she walked over to her Pokemon. "Though, I have to say Night, never do anything unless I tell you to do it. It's great that you have a mind of your own and that can come in handy, it can also be a hinderance, okay?"

Night just snorted and looked away. Sara sighed and was about to say more when she heard some rustling around her. Bracing herself, and after glancing to make sure her Pokemon were ready, she looked around to see what her newest threate would be. To her surprise, three Pokemon came out this time. Two Caterpies and a Butterfree.

Cursing, Sara took out her last Pokeball and threw it up, letting out Claw in a flash of light. The mole looked up at the Pokemon that surrounded them, especially the Butterfree. But she then grinned and clicked his very large claws for which he was named for.

"Alright, time to show these things what we're made of," Sara said with another grin, happy for the chance to try out her trainer skills. "Night, Scratch the Caterpie to the left. Claw, Scratch the Caterpie to the right! Sky, use Thunder Wave on the Butterfree!"

Each Pokemon nodded and moved out to complete their respective orders. Claw and Night were able to easily attack their targets. Sky gathered some electricity around him before letting it out and sending it at the Butterfree, but it moved to the left and dodged it. The Butterfree's eyes then began to glow in preparation for a Confusion attack. Sky closed his eyes and braced for the attack, but none came. When he opened his eyes, he saw that the glow was not on him, but on Night! Since she was a dark type, the psychc attack did nothing to her. The cat turned and gave a look at Sky that said 'now we're even', then turned to Sara and smirked as if to say 'you were saying?'

Sara just shrugged and said, "Everyone, same orders as before!"

Once again, everyone complied with the tasks that was given to them. Claw was able to defeat his Caterpie, but Night's still had some fight in it. Sky used his Thunder Wave attack once more, this time hitting the Butterfree right on so that it couldn't move. Night, not wanting the Caterpie to counter, used another Scratch attack to finish it off.

"Alright guys, we got this in the bag!" Sara said as she gazed at the Butterfree, but that confidence was shortly shattered when she saw yet another Butterfree fly onto the field. Sara cursed at this minor set back, but quickly recovered.

"No matter guys," Sara said, "Sky, use another Thunder Wave on the new Butterfree, we don't want it to just freely attack. Claw, Night, use Scratch on the paralyzed!"

Once again, Claw and Night were quick to act on their orders, each scratching at the downed butterfly. Sky released another jold of electricity, once again hitting the new Butterfree. However, this didn't stop it from unleashing a Confusion and hitting the dragon, knocking him back. The other Butterfree was also able to let out a Confusion, hitting Claw and also knocking him back some.

"Claw, Night, finish off that Butterfree, then go help Sky! Sky, just use Leer on that newer Butterfree!"

Claw and Night each used Scratch once more, making the Butterfree faint from the pain. They then ran over to the newer Butterfree just as Sky used a Leer attack in it, causing it to shiver in fright. This time when Claw and Night used their Scratch attack, it did considerable damage. When they used it a second time, it was enough to finish off the butterfly.

"Once again, nice going everyone!" Sara said with a smirk. She then looked up and realized how close to the horizon the sun was. With a sigh, Sara turned and walked down the path once more. "Come on you runts, lets try to find some place to rest for the night." She continued to walk without looking back, knowing that her Pokemon would follow her.

Century

Century nodded in agreement with Abel, "I don't want us to fall too far behind and be the last ones to the gym." Century added, his mind absent. He looked at his Caterpie who was still perched on his shoulder. That would be the pokemon he would use on his way to the Insect Island Gym.

"Caterpie" It exclaimed in enjoyment as Century gave it a tiny smirk, reaching into the pocket of his leather coat and feeding his Caterpie a couple of pokesnacks he had brought with him from home. "Pi!" It exclaimed again, rubbing up against Century's neck.

The two trainers walked their off of the beach and into the Insect Meadow. However, the knee high grass grazed both Century and Abel as they walked through the meadow and towards the dense forest, as Century thought to himself, "Good thing I found someone to travel with me," Century knew that it wouldn't be easy going to the Lost Islands by himself. So thank god for Abel. Century and Abel reached the beginning of the path through the forest. A few minutes in, Caterpie gives out a fearful yelp. Century turns around to be confronted by a pokemon very similar in looks to a mite the ground. Century pulls out his pokedex to analyze the creature.

[PokeCommunity.com] The Lost Islands League: PG-13 RP

Bachuru
The Clinging Pokemon
Bug/Electric
Bachuru cling to larger Pokémon, sucking up static electricity and storing it in a special pouch.

Century eyed the pokemon in front of him, and looked to his Caterpie on his shoulder. He looked around to see Abel confronted by a pokemon of his own, but Century minded his own business as he looked down towards the Bachuru on the ground. His Caterpie pushed itself off of Century's shoulder and onto the ground, where it stood face to face with the bug/electric type pokemon on the ground. Knowing that Century was going to attempt to battle this pokemon, the Bachuru immediately shot a Thunder Wave at Caterpie, as Century reacted quickly.

"Caterpie, dodge it and use String Shot!" Century commanded. His pokemon followed suit, and barely avoided the Thunder Wave before shooting a gooey white string at the Bachuru. It cried out briefly before countering with a string shot of its own, binding Century's Caterpie up, before Caterpie broke free.

"Caterpie! Use Tackle now!" Century commanded, as the Caterpie launched itself into the Bachuru. The opposing pokemon flew backwards as Century continued the commands to his Caterpie. "Caterpie, use String Shot!" He commanded, and Caterpie launched yet another gooey white string towards the Bachuru, slowing it down heavily.

However, this did not last for long as the Bachuru used a Thunder Wave as Caterpie was shooting string, and the electric currents that Caterpie picked up knocked it back briefly.

"Come on Caterpie, get up!" Century called, and his pokemon did as fast as he could, only to be hit by a Leech Life by the Bachuru. Caterpie wobbled around for a couple of brief moments, as the opposing Bachuru did the same, seeming to get weaker. Century grasped an empty pokeball on the inside of his coat, rolling it around in his fingers. He knew that capturing this pokemon would be very, very beneficial to his team, as he had a feeling that one more Tackle by Caterpie would put the Bachuru in a state where he could be captured.

"Caterpie, one more Tackle! You can do it!" Century called out, and his Catepie obeyed, charging into the Bachuru, knocking it onto its back. Century threw a pokeball towards the Bachuru, before it emitted a bright white light and holding the pokemon inside, rocking back and forth. Century waited for it to either stop rocking or the Bachuru to break free, as he turned and saw Abel partaking in yet another battle with his Pokabu.

Slowly, Adam's eyelids began to lift. He saw the ceiling through his fringe hair. He brushed his hair out of his eyes and slowly gathered where he was. Pokémon centre, Mystic Island. He sat up, looked around and saw all the sleeping trainers. What time is it? He reached into his bag and pulled out a phone and waited for it to turn on fully. He then remembered he had three Pokémon yet to be discovered inside those pokeballs. Adam looked down as his phone fully turned on, he looked at the time, 5:57, gives me an early start I suppose. He collected up all his belongings and walk out the door.

The Sun was only just touching the horizon as light trickled onto Mystic Island. Adam looked around town and saw someone setting up a brochure stand outside a shop. He took a Lost Islands League brochure and flicked through it until he saw a map. It had all the Islands of the league in it, but Adam tried to find the one he was on right now. As he found it, he looked for any kind of island that was close to it. "Insect Island" He read aloud. Destination decided, he went off to find a way to said destination. But then he remembered.

"Go!" He yelled aloud. Three bright white flashes pierced the early morning dawn, as three figures came out of those flashes.

One was a small green lizard, the second was a small black and with bird with a curl on the top of its head and the other was a dark green small dragon with small tusks.

"Treeko, Starly and Kibago, huh" said Adam. All six eyes were staring up at him.

"Uh... hi I guess. I'm your new... trainer..." This was a lot easier a few years ago. At the thought of this new trainer, Starly was the first to react. It stood up straight and boldly said its name, quite loudly at that.

"Starly!" Adam got out his phone and went to the Pokedex app, then scanned Starly. His new Starly was a female.

"Girl huh? Well in that case, what shall I name you...?... Kara!" The Starly stared blankly at him. "Yeah, Kara. I've always liked that name" Kara stood up once more and chirped. Adam then looked back at the other two.

"Both male..." Adam said as he looked at the phone. Kibago just stared at him, looking nervous, whereas Treeko looked very calm. Adam didn't know what to do with these two Pokémon.

Suddenly a football came flying down towards the Treeko, but he jumped out of the way just as fast, if not faster, than the football. "Woah" Adam was amazed at the speed of the creature.

The ball belonged to a bunch of kids playing. Why they were playing at six o'clock in the morning was beyond Adam. "Can you pass us our ball please?" One of them asked. Adam did the exact opposite and kicked even further away, then ignored them.

Adam leaned down to the Treeko. "Wow, that was really fast, like a bullet" Then an idea hit him. "Bullet! You'll be called Bullet!" Bullet seemed satisfied by the name and rested again.

Adam then turned his attention to Kibago. He could tell it was shy.

"Don't worry little guy. I'm not dangerous." The Kibago turned its head fully towards Adam and let out a little kind of... bark.

"Heh, never actually seen one of you before in person" Adam scanned the little creature up and down and noticed the small like horn on his head. Reminds me of a Sharpedo fin. It looked nothing like a Sharpedo fin.

Adam then started testing out words. "Sharpedo... Sharp, nah... Shard... Sharl... Shars... Shark... Shark!" He liked the sound of that word. "Kibago, you will now be known as Shark!" Shark seemed impressed with the name and almost started jumping up and down, but stopped himself.

Adam stood up, took out a breakfast bar from his bag and motioned for the Pokémon to follow him. Kara suddenly landed on his shoulder and proudly held out some berries.

"You're out to impress aren't you?" Adam said to her. Kara just stuck her chest out. Adam shared out the breakfast bar between them as they walked to the coast. About twenty minutes later they got there. Adam looked out to the ocean, he had to find a way of getting across it. So with that he sat on a rock to think of a way to travel across the water. And so he thought.

And thought.

And thought...

The peacefulness as they walked through the meadow had been short-lived; not long after they walked in, he heard Century's Caterpie yelp out in fear; he saw the other trainer immediately react to that, and soon found himself involved in a Pokémon battle against a Bug Pokémon.

Abel, however, couldn't do much about that, as he started to hear Pokabu fuming at his feet for some reason. At first, the trainer was solely concentrated on watching Century's battle, drawing out some strategies and notes from the Pokémon being fought, a species he didn't know, but especially eying that device on his hands.

"POKABU!" He suddenly yelled, feeling the Tepig seemingly slamming against his legs.

But once he looked down he saw that Pokabu was in fact being attacked by a small, crimson and yellow colored Pokémon, one that he quickly identified as being a Paras, and from Pokabu's behavior, it would seem like Paras just meant to poke him at first. But his Pokémon, with his characteristic Mild nature, started to get annoyed, and probably tackled the wild bug, triggering a battle.

"Pokabu!" Abel gasped when he saw what he had gotten into. I don't have a choice... I'll have to battle!

The Tepig stood ready for the battle, staring into Paras's eyes with a miffed look upon his face. Abel couldn't be angry at him after noticing that.

"Alright, Pokabu! Let's do it! Use Tackle on that Paras!"

"Bu!" He growled before charging in against the Pokémon, who attempted to dodge the move but ended up not being able to due to its speed, thus being thrown back a bit from the impact.

"Again! Do it!" Abel commanded once more, and the Pokémon obliged, ramming itself against the Paras once more; however, the latter managed to lower itself down and swiftly turn around as Pokabu flew over it to scratch the Pokémon in the belly.

If losing his focus on the landing hadn't been enough, then the multiple scratches from below decided the crash-landing against the ground, leaving Pokabu rubbing its nose.

"Behind you!" Abel warned as Paras crawled up to him fast, ready to scratch once more; however, Pokabu managed to evade this move, and the Paras ended up with its claws stuck on the ground. "Good job! Now..."

Abel hesitated when he saw smoke coming out of his Pokémon's nostrils. Could it be...?

"Try using Ember!" Abel commanded with confidence; but all he could get was a small flare that quickly disappeared. "Well... it was worth a try."

He soon regretted saying that, as Paras had managed to release its claws while Pokabu attempted a move it didn't know or couldn't use very well. Only one strategy came to his mind:

"Tail Whip! Then Tackle while its Defenses are down!"

Pokabu sharply turned up and around, wagging its tail against Paras, leaving it distracted for a moment, which allowed Pokabu to leap to its side and tackle the Pokémon.

"Okay!" Abel celebrated, reaching for his bag to take out a Pokéball, throwing it in the air and catching it again in a move he commonly did with those items. "Paras! You're gonna be mine! I hope"

With that, he swiftly threw the Pokéball towards the temporarily weakened Paras in an attempt to catch it, leaving the Pokéball to fall to the ground and move, contributing to Abel's impatience.

(Yes, seasick a lot! And woot, second in the list of trainers! I feel all special and awesome and stuff.)

The Lost Island's League
Ike's log, #4 – The swarm

Placing Ike's steps carefully through the forest abundant with insects, he had made record progress. While he still stood thick in the depths of Insect forest, it had felt like he had moved mountains throughout his still rather short trip. Ike was given three options at this point of his trip. One would be catching a Pokémon, the second being more training, while the third would be to plough forward. A brief moment of thinking had limited his options to the first two, although he'd prefer not to catch a bug-type.

"Can't stand them..." he muttered, before climbing over a toppled log, which seemed to have fallen from the extent of burrowing from Bug-types.

Placing his feet back onto the mossy ground with a soft crunch, he continued forward. If anything the forest seemed to have been getting thicker, which had begun to unnerve him. Although, he preferred this than travelling via Lapras any day...

The faint sound of buzzing stopped Ike in his thoughts. "Bee-bzzt-drill..." came the sound again, as a large yellow object flew in front of Ike, causing him to jump backwards slightly.

Ike frowned. "Hmph, damn Beedrill." He grumbled, as Ike pulled a Pokéball from his belt.
He didn't know which Pokémon he had chosen for the fight, but it really didn't matter. Neither had any real advantage against the Poison bee Pokémon. Dunmer could avoid easily avoid any attacks, but Atol could wet the foe's wings, causing it to lose any ability of flight. While the second would seem the greatest choice, hitting it would be a pain either way.

Throwing the sphere, it bounced off of a tree, and exploded near the Beedrill, causing the Requiem Pokémon to hover beside the opponent. "Dusk..." whispered Ike's Pokémon, as it glared at the Bug/Poison type. The Beedrill clearly saw this as nothing more than a show, and ignored it, as it began to rummage through a large flower head, clearly searching for pollen, as many of its species do.

Ike chuckled. This Pokémon should be an easy target. "Dunmer, Nightshade..." he muttered, although loud enough for his Ghost-type to hear, but not enough for the Beedrill to.

It wouldn't really matter, as the heavy beating of Beedrill's wings made it hard for them to hear much at all. Dunmer's eye turned blue once more, and he chuckled to himself. The Beedrill took notice of this, and although its face remained rather emotionless, Ike could tell there was a slight sense of surprise as it was struck by the beam of shadow energy. Losing balance for a moment, Ike could tell there was a slight sense of surprise as it was struck by the beam of shadow energy. Losing balance for a moment, Ike could tell there was a slight sense of surprise as it was struck by the beam of shadow energy. Losing balance for a moment, Ike could tell there was a slight sense of surprise as it was struck by the beam of shadow energy. Losing balance for a moment, the Poison-type dropped in altitude, quickly circling behind Dunmer and pulling back its stinger.

A plan quickly formed for Ike. "Dunmer, fade backwards and use Leer."

The Requiem Pokémon flew backwards, fading through the Beedrill and letting the attack blatantly miss. The eye of Dunmer turned a deep purple, and the Poison bee Pokémon flashed a vibrant blue. The Beedrill swung itself around, stabbing its poison-tipped stinger into the side of Dunmer.

"Dus!" it yelled, as he fell to the floor. "...kull..."

Ike didn't feel any compassion for his allies' injuries, and simply readied for another attack. "Dunmer, get up and use Disable." He ordered, as Dunmer hovered back into an upright position.

Its eye turned a similar purple as before, only this time it rose its 'arms' forward. Beedrill took this short period as a chance to attack. Pointing its right needle forward, and vibrating its wings. It launched itself forward, with Dunmer still hovering still, muttering to itself. Ike wondered what the Ghost-type was doing, but it soon came clear. Inches from being struck, Dunmer shoved its robed arms forward, as a pulse of ghost-type energy was launched from its body, causing the Beedrill to lose balance once more. It swung off course, slamming itself into a tree, and digging its stinger in heavily.

"Now..." Ike whispered, before pointing at the subdued Beedrill. "Hit it with Nightshade." He ordered, louder than the previous muttering.

The Beedrill turned its head to Dunmer, whose eye was slowly becoming the typical blue. It struggled to pull its arm from the tree, with increasing strength to try and free itself. "Bee... Zzt!" it buzzed, as it turned back to its arm in attempt to escape.

"Dus... dus... Skull!" Dunmer yelled, as the beam was fired from its eye at a powerful level.

Finally ripping itself from the tree, the Beedrill turned back to Dunmer, lacking time to escape. "Drill!" it yelled, as it was struck in the chest by the Nightshade, throwing it backwards into another tree, causing it to slump down onto the floor. Ike raised one eyebrow at his win, although he returned to his usual stern expression as the Beedrill pushed itself up onto its legs, battered and bruised.

Ike dusted down his clothes quickly "Hmph, ready for m-"

He stopped as the Poison bee Pokémon began to hum an eerie sound. It slowly became louder and louder, slowly becoming at a lower pitch. Scratching its stinger together, the Beedrill seemed to be becoming more and more enthusiastic. It was then that Ike realised what was happening. The humming wasn't emanating from that particular Beedrill, rather than from all around.

"Beedrill!" yelled the original Beedrill, as it caught a breath of wind, and escaped above the tree tops. Ike followed its movements until it was out of sight, with the heavy buzzing still visible. He froze, careful not to make any noise. "Beedrill!" called another voice, "Bzzt... Drill!" came another. Glancing around the area, more yellow forms appeared from among the trees. There were only four of them, although they were the picturesque image of anger.

That one Beedrill had escaped deeper into the forest, and had called the rest of the swarm to deal the final blow while it rested. Ike cursed under his breath, just as the swarm spotted his position. "Damn it. That Beedrill knew when it was done, and called its friends to do its dirty work..." he muttered, before taking a few steps backwards. "If I see that god-damn Beedrill again I'm gunna kill it..."

And it was at this, Ike took his chance. Leaping over the fallen log which he had climbed over earlier, he ran as fast as he could. Dunmer kept at a steady pace, but could probably move faster if he needed to. Every step Ike took the gentle buzzing turned into an onslaught of drumming. Ike knew any moment now he would struck by a Poison sting or Fury attack. He needed a way to defend himself. Motioning to Dunmer to turn around the Requiem Pokémon did so.

Dunmer glanced at the Beedrill before yelling at them. Ike could only assume it was an insult as the heavy beating became more violent. "Use Disable."

Nodding, the Duskull fired a ring of blue light, much like he did a moment ago, which slammed into one Beedrill. It was wide enough to strike two of the four Beedrill. While one managed to keep its balance, the slight stumble from the other caused it to swerve out of control, falling into the undergrowth. Ike continued running, although that show had made it clear they would be easier to deal with than the first Beedrill, but the numbers could make it a problem. Ike frowned at his actions to this matter. Why was he running? It would be much better to stay and fight. Upon placing his right leg forward, he slammed it into the ground, and caused his momentum to come to a shattering halt, and left but a second to attack.

"Nightshade the centre target!"

Dunmer did as instructed, firing a blast of mysterious energy to the Beedrill which hovered between the two others. Gaining altitude by little more than half a metre, the attack was avoided, leaving the trainer and his Pokémon wide open. Rather than taking a direct charge, they seemed to be playing with their food, as it were. Darting over head, the sheer buzzing caused Ike to shudder slightly, although he shrugged it off. A faint rustling from the trees signalled more chaos. Smashing through the leaves from above came a final Beedrill, which was slightly larger than the others, and Ike immediately recognised it.

He smirked slightly. "Hmm... back for more it seems." Ike muttered, as he glared at the Poison bee Pokémon. The previous fight did seem to have roughed it up a little, but it did look ready to fight. "Right, Dunmer. Nightshade once more!"

Nodding, Dunmer prepared to fire the same attack which he had been using for most of today. Blasting the blue bolt of energy from its eye, Dunmer aimed for the one on the far left, which looked the weakest of the group. Pulling its stingers up, the Beedrill tried to block it. Shoving its stingers to the side, it blocked a portion of the damage, and was ready from an order from its superior.

"Bee-bzzt!" whirred the leader, who pointed a sting forward as an order.

Or at least what seemed to be an order. The other Beedrill did the same, as the point of their weapons faded into a deep purple. Ike knew this move, and now it would be safe to avoid it. A rain of poison darts flew towards the trainer's position, as they shattered near the surrounding ground.

Ike strafed to the left, narrowing avoiding the darts, while yelling an order to his Pokémon. "Nightshade again!" Dunmer modified his altitude and position at a high speed, weaving around the attack and waiting for a time to strike. As the Beedrill halted the attack, the Nightshade flung from Dunmer, striking the far left Pokémon once more. This time, it struggled to block, being flung backwards from the attack. "Hmph... three left." He muttered, although slightly half heartedly.

Dunmer was clearly becoming tired from both this fight and the few before, and it would only be a moment before he was struck by an organised attack. He did always have Atol left if something went wrong, but he was just as tired. This would defiantly be an interesting fight...

@GrifSpark - What's up with your characters and bug swarms? XD

Congrats! Dunmer grew to Lv9 and learned Foresight!

They had been walking for that clearing for a little while now, before Miharu stopped, her senses were telling her something. Serena chirped in concerned and Mika turned around. "Anything wrong Miharu?"

Miharu put her index finger to her mouth. "Listen."

Mika tilted her head to the side as she listened carefully, but could hear nothing. "I don't hear anything."

Miharu gave Mika a look. "You have to really work on your senses. Yes, there is practically nothing but there is noises of a battle between beedrills, I'm guessing three, against a trainer and...two pokemon. Spheal and Duskull."

Mika blinked. "How did you know that?"

Miharu shrugged. "Practice. Shall we go help whoever this unfortunate person is?"

"You help, I was under orders not to help anyone."

"That was what I meant." Miharu took running off towards the noises and saw a trainer with a Spheal and Duskull fighting off three Beedrills. "Serena, use metronome."

Serena waggled her fingers before colourful leaves surrounded her and struck the Beedrils which didn't phase them. Magical Leaf.

All three of the beedrills directed their attention to Serena, who was still in Miharu's arms, and used poison sting. Miharu dodged the poison sting and somehow managed her way near to the other trainer. "Need help?"

As soon the light on the center of the Pokéball faded away, Abel joyfully leaped forward,
grabbing the item and showing it in the air.

"And Paras is ours!" He cheerfully shouted before kneeling and showing the Pokéball to Pokabu. "And here's a new teammate for you and Chunk!"

But the Pokémon just threw a blank look at it, exhaling a small flare before walking off. Abel sighed as it moved away to watch how Century's battle had gone - even if his interest was actually next to none.

"So, a Paras..." He said, getting up and taking out his sketchbook. After some scrolling, he found the page where had had drawn one of those Pokémon in a cave, back in Kanto, collecting mushrooms. "Scratch... Powder moves... Sounds like you're a real danger for the unprepared! Even if there's a slight problem with your speed..." He paused, trying to cook up a training strategy. "But I suppose we'll fix that."

Putting the Pokéball away, he walked over to Pokabu, standing some steps away from where Century was.

"So, how did it go?"

"Three whole days?" Damian was still complaining a little, "If you know where it is, shouldn't it take less time?"

"A little, but that would be if we didn't have to train." Was my reply. I looked around to see a few bug pokemon in the distance, all too strong for my pokemon. As I was walking, I saw a Beedrill fly by.

"Look out!" Damian cried, causing my head to turn back in front of me to look. As soon as I did this, another Beedrill ran into my face causing me to fall.

"Urgh..." I pushed myself back up and let out Munna, "Psywave!" Munna let out a pinkish-purple wave that sent the Beedrill to the ground. "Again, until it faints." Munna kept launching Psywave, making it so it couldn't get up. After about half a minute, it lay unconscious.

"Good, return." Munna disappeared in a flash of light and I continued walking.

"Wonder what had them riled up." The answer came when we saw a boy fighting off a bunch of Beedrill with his Duskull.

"Ignore it, he seems to be doing fine and there isn't much point in helping the competition." I turned and started back in the direction of the Breeding Center, sneaking my Contestant Analyzer to scan this trainer. "Cyrus 'Ike' Symith." Came its little voice. Just then a girl ran up with a Togepi and I took her data too. "Miharu Mizushima." It was starting to get a little dark out so I didn't have much time to train.

After a little walking I told Damian to set up camp while I went out to train. I looked around for a pokemon and a bunch of Paras that were walking by caught my eye. I counted them, three. I let out Munna, Desumasu and Zuruzuggu, all three were prepared to fight. The Paras seemed startled, but they soon recovered and got ready to fight.

The Paras all used different moves, one used Scratch and headed towards Zuruzuggu, while one used poisonpowder on Munna and Stun Powder on Desumasu. I commanded all three to dodge, but Desumasu got a breath of spores before he could move, paralyzing him. Munna countered with Psywave and Zuruzuggu with Low Kick. Both moves hit their target but that didn't really do much to the Paras. Desumasu was able to get out a large Disable that hit all three Paras. Since they all knew the same moves they simply switched tactics.

I pulled out my pokedex to check their moves, Disable wasn't going to help. "Keep using your damaging moves on the Paras in the center!" Both pokemon moved in to attack the center Paras, which is the one that had used Scratch previously. The first Psywave missed but Low Kick hit perfectly, sending the Paras back a few feet. That left it open to even more attacks and another Low Kick and Psywave knocked it out. While I was focused on the center Paras, the other two had moved in and were furiously scratching Munna. Munna was trying to float away but couldn't, fainting a second later.

Desumasu recovered from paralysis and floated over to a Paras, hitting it with Astonish. The Paras tried to counter with another Stun Spore but Desumasu pulled up Protect before it could hit. I then commanded my two pokemon to use only their damaging moves again on the Paras that just used Stun Spore. After another minute, that Paras was down, leaving the last one alone. Desumasu and Zuruzuggu did the same thing and that Paras was down soon too.

I recalled my pokemon and headed back to camp. Not a moment too soon as it began to rain. I ran into the large black tent Damian had set up and sat down, ready to take a rest.

"Two more days and we're there. After that, it's gonna be trouble to get to the gym."

"Why's that?"

"The gym is located near the top of the God Tree."

Damian's expression changed to a somewhat angry, somewhat sad look. "Great, we have to scale a five hundred foot tree to get one lousy badge."

"Yeah, but let's worry about that later." I rolled out my sleeping bag and went to sleep.

Adam jumped off and landed on the soft sand of Insect Island. It had been quite the journey. He had been able to hitch a lift with a couple on a passing boat, the problem was that they didn't speak a word of English. Still, they were more than happy to give Adam a lift. The ride there was pretty boring for Adam, after all, he wasn't a conversation starter to begin with, but this really didn't help. He waved them a small wave goodbye and stared at the beach and forest in front of him. Bug Pokémon, I should be alright. It was on the journey there that he realised that his team has a triple weakness to ice. He contemplated catching a bug Pokémon, but that would be a quadruple weakness to ice. However he may still catch one.

He walked along Insect beach until he came across some kind of red rock with holes in it. He stuck his foot out and kicked it and to Adam's surprise, a yellow head stuck out of one hole and four legs stuck out another four. "Shuuuuckk" It cried out.

"Shuckle?" Adam said aloud. Instinctively he reached for his pokeballs. "Bullet!" He yelled as he threw his pokeball up in the air and the Treecko popped out. "Ree ree!" It said with confidence. "Time for our first battle, Bullet" He told the Treecko as it squared up to its opponent.

"Leer!" Adam commanded. Bullet stared at its opponent harshly. The Shuckle countered with Constrict. It grabbed Bullet and squeezed it tightly, knocking the wind out of it. "Pound it!" Adam yelled as Bullet swung its tail round and whacked Shuckle, but not enough to send it away. It still held its grip on Bullet.

"Pound again!" Bullet was getting hurt by Constrict, but Adam knew he had plenty of health left. This Pound managed to break Shuckle of its grip. It let go of Bullet and he quickly got out of its way. The Shuckle used Withdraw and did what said move implied and withdrawed.

Adam took advantage of this. "Run up while charging a Pound attack, then smack it!" The Treecko ran with the speed it got its name for, all the while kicking up clouds of sand. When Bullet was just a few feet away from the Shuckle, it poked its head out and rammed Bullet using its strongest move, Insect Opposition. Luckily Bullet had been fast enough to swing its tail round, but still took a great deal of damage from that attack. The two Pokémon rebounded off each other and landed on the sand. They just stood there staring each other down for what seemed to be hours.

Until the Shuckle fainted.

Adam let out a breath, it was over, he had won. "Phew, good work Bullet" Adam praised. Bullet was just lying down on the beach, slightly panting. Adam returned Bullet and continued onwards.

Further down the beach, about five minutes away, Adam saw another Pokémon and suddenly dropped to the ground on his hands and feet when he saw what it was. It was a Skorupi, looking straight at him. Skorupi could be dangerous and he knew it. Slowly, he reached for his pokeballs again and sent out Kara. "Staar!" It yelled proudly, then spotted the Skorupi. It was scuttling towards them at a fast pace. Adam quickly got up and commanded Kara "Kara, fly up and use Growl!" Kara flew up a good seven feet and then growled viciously at the scorpion. It started to shoot up Poison Stings.

"Dodge them!" Adam commanded. Kara did just that, making sure not one of them hit her. "Now dive in for a Tackle!" Kara waited for just the right opportunity, when the Skorupi stopped shooting and dived in to knock the Skorupi right off balance. Once her job was done, she flew back up, however the Skorupi started shooting poison again. Kara registered this and dodged, but she missed out one and it landed in her wing.

"Staa!" She called out, and plummeted to the sand. She hit the ground with thump and the Skorupi immediately ran over to her. "Fly! Fly!!" Adam tried desperately to get her out of the way, but it was no use. The Skorupi came over to her and used Bite. Adam thought it was over, but to his surprise, before she could be bitten again she started flying back up! Adam could see she was badly injured and probably poisoned. He had to think up of a strategy.

Then, it hit him! He noticed the small sand cloud being whipped up by the flap of Kara's wings and it gave him an idea.

"Kara, beat your wings towards the ground as hard as you can!" Sure enough what he expected to happen happened. A bigger sand cloud that the one before had been whipped up. The Skorupi looked at it in bewilderment. "Now do it all around the Skorupi!" Kara, despite her injuries, did as she was told and started to twirl around the Skorupi. Eventually, it looked as if there was a mini sandstorm around the Skorupi. Adam couldn't see, but he guessed the sand was getting in its eyes.

"Now Kara, close your eyes and keep Quick Attacking!" Adam just hoped Kara would last long enough to make the Skorupi faint. After about six Tackles, the Skorupi flung out of the now-dying sandstorm, and flopped onto the beach. Adam faced the weak-looking Starly and congratulated it. "Well done girl" Adam praised her, but before she could reply, the poison got the better of her and she finally fainted. Adam caught her.

You deserve a rest. He returned her to her pokeball and thought about his battles today. Both of his Pokémon had great skill and determination, which would really help with his mission here, not only the League. He still had Kibago to go, he might be a bit difficult to get out, however Adam had a strong feeling that all would be well. He liked this team, he was impressed and almost proud, though he wouldn't admit it. Everything should go smoothly, he thought as he strolled into the forest.
