The Magikarp Boat

Or maybe it's a submarine? Did anyone else notice this in the Japanese trailer? (Was it in the English trailer?) They show it at a dock with several other Pokemon-themed boats and also at another shore by itself. Is this some kind of transport that we might get to use at some point in the game? Will we be getting our own personal-use boat (sub?) at some point to help us travel?

In the japanese trailer, we can see the main character and their best friend (forgot his name) being on a boat, like they were travelling somewhere.
I think, to go from Island to Island, you can use boats in exchange of coins, so that you don't have to use surf.

I'm thinking the white boat is the one that will transport us between these islands initially. Considering how some of these Pokemon themed boats look like houses, I'd guess they are owned by other NPCs. The Whiscash one just looks like a regular houseboat, and the Wailord could be a pop-up market stall. I'd love to be wrong though, it would be awesome if we could have our own personalized Pokemon boat!

I also think we will be traveling in the white boat to reach other islands. Gosh I loved that port. I just feel like there will be many HUGES places to visit and explore, and I can't wait to discover them in-game!

    Oh man, it's Team Rocket!!

"Oh god they've detected us!" "Not what do we do?" "Ha-hemmm"
    ...
"Prepare for trouble" "And make it double"

These Pokemon themed boats look super cool, but unfortunately I don't think we'll be able to sail on them *cries*. I think they'll be owned by NPCs and as the player we can go inside them and maybe buy items or receive key items like the Good Rod etc.

I know how much I love towns that sit on water like Pacifidlog Town and Humilau City, and I guess this place follows in their footsteps for a typical water-based town. The Pokemon-shaped boats look like they will be owned by NPCs though, like some of the posts before me said.

With Alola being so heavily water based, I'd say it's definitely possible. I don't know whether we would be able to dive as we've previously known it, but going underwater in a submarine boat of some sort would be a really cool concept come to think of it!

I do really hope diving in a sub is possible. There's gotta be a lot of interesting stuff underwater.

The idea of these boats being some kind of floating town seems plausible, but then there's that brief image of the Magikarp boat near a short with different trees so it's either something that moves around or there are more than one of them. I personally hope it moves, and although I think it's not totally likely, that it's also something we can ride in.

Getting a boat of your own that's also Pokemon-shaped would be too good and I don't expect it, but I'd be so pleased to see it happen.

I agree that the player getting his/her own boat is a bit too-much, + why have a boat when you can surf on your Pokémon? I just think there's plenty of boats from having a lot of different routes to take to go to point blank or some are event boats like in BW (ex. the boat to get Victini)

+ I also agree on the sub diving! Really hope to see diving in the game, considering how much water there is and how beautiful it must be, considering its Hawaii we're most likely to see some coral reefs :)

I like these boats, they're cute. I hope we can do something in them, even if it's just like SM's version of XY's cafés or ORAS's Mauville Food Court (battle people to make money while sailing on a boat).

And here's a conspiracy theory: the "post-game island" fans hope for is actually completely underwater, and you have to take a submarine to reach it.

That's a really good point. A different boat for every island really makes a lot of sense if the game is going to direct you to go to certain places initially and doesn't want you to wander off in the wrong direction the first chance you get.

Weird, I've never seen that screenshot before. Almost made me think I was looking at a PMD game for a second. But yeah, I don't know how I'd feel about owning my own boat, given that surfing will always be less linear and a lot more interesting. It's possible that it takes you to some super-distant islands like in a lot of the other games.

Y'know, I don't see anything wrong with owning your own boat. There's also those that prefer surfing too, for that experience.

That would be really cool and a feature that would make sense due to all the island hopping we'll be doing. It would give players the best of both worlds, a quick, simple boat trip to different islands or the option to surf there and take the scenic route for those who want a bigger experience.

Owning our own boat could have some customization options too if it isn't restricted to a set boat with perhaps different Pokemon themes that the player can buy :)
