- Started the game and named myself Charles as I always do
- Chose Turtwig as my starter as I always do. Not that it matters too much this time anyways.
- Caught a lvl. 5 male Budew, my real first team member, in route 204 and named him Buddy (yes I know, shit name).
- Buddy died in his first battle and I got really mad. After that, I realized this was not a nuzlocke and calmed down.
- Caught my second team member at Ravaged Path, a lvl. 4 Zubat named Roy Batty.
- Realized that my starting team were two extremely weak teams so I started grinding for the rival battle.
- Realized that grinding will be better tomorrow in the day if Budew wants to evolve.
Team:
Spoiler:
- Lvl. 6 hasty Buddy (Budew): Absorb, Growth
- Lvl. 4 adamant Roy Batty (Zubat): Leech Life
- Grinded Buddy the Budew to lvl. 9 and Roy Batty the Zubat to lvl. 6
- Lost the Rival Battle at Route 203.
- Taught Return to Roy Batty so he wouldn't be a pain to train, grinded both mons to lvl. 10
- Won the Rival Battle.
- Went through Oreburgh Gate and arrived to Oreburgh City.
- Decided that with both Mons at lvl. 15 I wouldn't have that much of a problem with Roark.
- Buddy learned Mega drain and Roy Batty learned Bite while training.
- Didn't have any problems handling Roark with Buddy.
- Taught Rock Smash to my unusable starter and explored part of Oreburgh Gate.
- Defeated Team Galactic in Jubilife City.
- Arrived to Floaroma Town.
Team:
Spoiler:
- Lvl. 17 hasty Buddy (Budew): Mega Drain, Growth, Stun Spore, Water Sport
- Lvl. 16 adamant Roy Batty (Zubat): Bite, Return, Astonish, Supersonic
- Started taking care of Team Galactic in Floaroma Town, increasingly getting worried about Mars' Purugly thinking that my only chance of beating it was that Buddy the Budew evolving into Roselia. Buddy didn't evolve. He hates me.
- Started the battle with Mars, defeated her Zubat with my own Roy Batty the Zubat. Tried to supersonic the Purugly, but it one shot me. Buddy got sent out and paralyzed the Purugly and started spamming healing items ans Growth until I defeated it.
- Going through Route 205 found a trainer with a lvl. 14 Roselia just to rub in my face that Buddy hates me.
- Buddy is now lvl. 20 and hasn't evolved yet. Yes, I'm playing during the day.
- Got to Eterna Forest, teamed up with Cheryl and caught Lammermoor, the female lvl. 14 Gastly.
- Cheryl's Chansey is useless.
- Lammermoor is bossing Eterna Forest, he's now lvl. 20.
- Before exiting the forest, used Cheryl to grind to lvl. 22. Roy Batty evolved to Golbat!
- Buddy, of course, didn't evolve.
- Before leaving, Cheryl gave me a Soothe Bell, yay! I immediately equipped it to Buddy.
- Defeated the fishermen outside Eterna and met Cynthia.
Team:
Spoiler:
- Lvl. 23 hasty Buddy (Budew): Mega Drain, Growth, Stun Spore, Water Sport
- Lvl. 22 adamant Roy Batty (Golbat): Wing Attack, Return, Bite, Confuse Ray
- Lvl. 22 naive Lammermoor (Gastly): Night Shade, Lick, Confuse Ray, Sucker Punch
- Got the Exp. Share from one of Rowan's assistants at the entrance of the Bike Path.
- Started dealing with the Eterna Gym.
- One of the trainers had a lvl. 17 Roselia, rubbing in my face again that Buddy the Budew hates me.
- Absolutely bodied Gardenia with Roy Batty the Golbat.
- Taught Cut to my unusable starter.
- Took care of Team Galactic and Jupiter.
- Got a bike!
- In Route 206 got a Poison Barb. Which I realizad that as of now is useless because in this mono-poison run I don't have a singe poison-type move.
- Taught Flash to my unusable starter so I can go through Wayward Cave.
- Teamed up with Mira to get out of the Cave.
- Lammermoor the Gastly evolved into Haunter! I've used Gengar in plenty of playthroughs and I never use Haunter, so I'll wait a little bit to evolve Lammermoor into a Gengar, probably just before Hearthome Gym. Moveset is exactly the same, so there won't be any trouble.
- Lammermoor and Mira's Kadabra make a badass pairing.
- Buddy (who is lvl. 26 and still a Budew) and Kadabra not so much.
- Buddy grew to lvl. 27 and... he still hasn't eveolved.
- Got out of Wayward cave and stopped playing because there's UEFA Champions League matches.
Team:
Spoiler:
- Lvl. 28 hasty Buddy (Budew) @Soothe Bell: Mega Drain, Growth, Stun Spore, Water Sport
- Lvl. 27 adamant Roy Batty (Golbat): Wing Attack, Return, Bite, Confuse Ray
- Lvl. 26 naive Lammermoor (Gastly): Night Shade, Shadow Punch, Confuse Ray, Sucker Punch
- Went back to Eterna because I remembered that you could get the happiness checker app from the Pokémon Center. Now I can check that Budew has two small hearts and isn't that far from evolving (Hopefully).
- The egg Cynthia gave me hatched. Not that it matters.
- Got through Wayward's Cave secret entrace and left with a Grip Claw, A Rare Candy and TM26 Earthquake.
- Roy Batty the Golbat evolved into Crobat while fighting trainers on Route 207! (Buddy is still a Budew btw, and was caught before Roy)
- Went through Mt. Coronet to get to Route 208.
- There was a trainer with a lvl. 18 Roselia in that route, once again, rubbing in my face once again that buddy hates me.
- Fuck Buddy, I'm catching a Roselia in this route.
- Jk, I'm sticking with Buddy, even though he hates me, I love him.
- WHAT? Buddy is finally evolving at lvl. 29! I now have a lvl. 29 Roseli and I know I missed a lot of moves, but I'll be sure to re-learn them when I get to Pastoria. As of now, I'm just teaching him Grass Knot.
- Arrived safely to Hearthome.
Team:
Spoiler:
- Lvl. 29 hasty Buddy (Roselia): Mega Drain, Growth, Stun Spore, Grass Knot
- Lvl. 28 adamant Roy Batty (Crobat): Wing Attack, Return, Bite, Confuse Ray
- Lvl. 28 naive Lammermoor (Haunter): Night Shade, Shadow Punch, Confuse Ray, Sucker Punch
- Explored Hearthome City.
- Traded Lammermoor the Haunter to my Soul Silver game and back. I now have a Gengar!
- Bit through Fantina with Roy Batty the Crobat.
- Defeated my rival and started going to Solaceon Town.
- Explored Solaceon Town, the Ruins and the Lost Tower.
- Skipped like three Routes, one city and like 20 battles to get to Pastoria Town to see if I can get my next two team members.
- Accidentally caught a Noctowl in the Great Marsh. It'll be a nice Defog slave I guess.
- Caught a Bibarel to be my HM Slave.
- Caught Dalila the Skorupi and Pepe the Croagunk for my team!
- Taught Roy Batty Cross Poison through the move relearner.
- Went through all the Routes and trainers I skipped training my newest team members: Pepe the Croagunk and Dalila the Skorupi.
- Lammermoor the Gengar learned Shadow Ball!
- Explored Veilstone City, started buying coins to get Psychic.
- Absolutely desroyed Maylene with Roy Batty the Crobat and now I have four badges!
- Pepe can't learn Drain Punch which is a dissapointment.
- Realized that buying coins is too expensve so I stopped buying.
- Took care of Team Galactic in Veilstone.
- Got Fly and taught it to Roy Batty!
- Got back to Pastoria.
- Taught Buddy the Roselia Leech Seed and Giga Drain using the Move Relearner.
- Started taking care of the Route west of Pastoria, and oh god, the swamp is more annoying that I remembered.
- Stopped playing at the Pok?mon Mansion.

- Finished claring upt the route between Pastoria and Hearthome.
- Defeated Crasher Wake. It wasn't easy, his Gyarados was defeated by Buddy the Roselia using Stun Spore and Leech Seed, his Floatzel by Roy Batty the Crobat with a mix of Cross Poison and healing spam and finally, his Quagsire easily by Buddy.
- Chased the Galactic grunt that put the bomb in Pastoria and beat him.
- Started taking care of the foggy Route 210 with help of that defogging Noctowl I accidentally caught at the Great Marsh.
- Pepe the Croagunk was going to evolve at Lvl. 37 but I prevented him to do so because I want him to learn Poison Jab al Lvl. 38.
- Arrived to Celestic Town and took care of the route to the left.
- Battled Cyrus at the ruins and I love his battle theme.
- Pepe evolved into Toxicroak after the battle!
- Cynthia's grandma gave me the HM for Surf!
- Taught Surf to my trusty HM Bibarel and started the difficult search for my sixth and final team member. So I surfed in the first body of water and caught Japan the Lvl. 28 female Tentacool! Taught her Surf immediately.
- Started exploring all of the now available areas now that I have surf.
- Japan eveolved into a Tentacruel!
- After scavenging all of Sinnoh, getting some TMs, using two Rare Candies to force useless Dalila the Skorupi to evolve, battling, move tutoring and surfing, I think I have a good team to go to Canalave and continue my adventure.
- Got to Canalave City
- Went to Iron Island and teamed up with Riley
- Used Riley's magical healing powers to train for the Gym.
- DIdn't get a Riolu egg from him because I didn't have space in my team. Not that I would use it.
- Went back to Canalave and defeated my Rival.
- Defeated Byron easily with Japan the Tentacruel, Pepe the Toxicroak and Dalila the Drapion (she has Earthquake).
- Went to the library with my Rival, Dawn and Prof. Rowan and something exploded. It's Lake Valor and, of course, I have to go see what happened.
- Took care of Saturn at the Lake, but I was too late, since he already took Azelf to Team Galactic's HQ! Apparently, Mars is taking care of Mesprit in Lake Verity, right next door to home!
- Stopped to gamble a bit and earn the rest of the coins I needed to buy TM 29 Psychic (jk, I just bought them). Taught it to Lammermoor the Gengar.
- Went to Lake Verity ans took care of Team Galactic and Mars, but again, I was too late, since Mesprit was already taken to the Galactic HQ.
- There's only Lake Acuity left, but I'll need to get through Mt. Coronet first to stop Jupiter from taking Uxie!
- Got through the northern part of Mt. Coronet to get to Route 216.
- Took care of the trainers in the routes before Snowpoint.
- Candice was easy. Her Sneasel was destroyed from a Brick Break from Pepe the Toxicroak, her Froslass was a piece of cake for Lammermoor the Gengar, the PIloswine died from a Giga Drain from Buddy the Roserade and the Abomasnow was Cross-Poisoned to death by Roy Batty the Crobat.
- Went to Lake Acuity so see my Rival's ass getting kicked by Jupiter.
- Went Rock Climbing through Sinnoh and found some useful TMs like Ice Beam, which I immediately taught to Japan th Tentacruel
- Started clearing up the Galactic HQ and found TM Sludge Bomb. It was hart to tell which Pok?mon should learn it, but in the end I chose Buddy, leaving Lammermoor with no STAB poison type move for the rest of the playthrough.
- Ended up taking care of the HQ defeating Cyrus and Saturn. Nex time, I'll be going through Mt. Coronet and take part of the climax of the story.
I signed up late but here is latest update and my team.

Then give Honchkrow focus band. Got off a thunder wave.
Then cheesed it out with bullet punch paralysis and Muk.
Oof that was a tough.
Well shes down and happy to be pass that.
Any other dark monotypers have trouble with that totem mon?
(EDIT: In retrospect I probably couldve focus sashed Bishard and used the Steelium Z :|)
- Started going through Mt. Coronet.
- Arrived to the Summit, which has the cooles music in all the games.
- At the Spear Pillar teamed with my rival to defeat Mars and Jupiter.
- Giratina appeared and jump-scared the shit out of me.
- Went through the Distortion World with the gelp of the three lake guardians.
- Defeated Cyrus one las time.
- Had no problems defeating Giratina with Dalila the Drapion.
- Exited the Distortion World and now I'm ready to get to Sunyshore.
Started this a long time ago, then forgot about it, then found my file and decided to finish what I had committed to so long ago.
Progress:
Spoiler:
- Started with "Birdfeeder", a Totodile. Used him to get through the beginning stuff until I could catch a Pidgey, "Airforce 1".
- Caught a Hoothoot, "Hooters", a Zubat "Not Batman", and a Ledyba "Miraculous".
- Went through Violet City and Sprout Tower, training as I went.
- Caught a Hoppip, "Dandy Lion", while training more.
- Beat Falkner.
- Got Togepi Egg and went through the cave, caught a Spearow on one of the routes between Violet and Azalea, "Sinestro", and fished up a Magikarp, "Sushi".
- Hatched Togepi, "Sunny", and evolved Airforce 1 and Dandy Lion.
- Did the Azalea Town Rocket stuff, beat the Gym with my birds.
- Beat Rival, went through Goldenrod and caught a Butterfree in the Bug Contest, "Hawk Moth". Also evolved Hooters and Sinestro. Put Sushi in the DayCare.
- Training to fight Whitney now. Probably gonna put Roost on Airforce 1 soon, and just got Sushi out of the DayCare.
I know I seem impossibly far from the finish line but my last 2 runs haven't been added to the list nor has one of the 2 on the list been updated to show I finished gen 1.
In other news I started a water mono-type because I need serious help.

Actually started a while ago just forgot to post but here's the situation.
Grabbed Squirtle didn't name it (didn't name any this time)
Spent an absurd amount of time to beat rival before indigo league.
Caught a Spearow.
Beat Brock silly.
Bought a Magikarp for cheap.
Started training Magikarp as I progressed through Mt. Moon.
Evolved Squirtle to Wartortle.
Caught a Clefairy to use Flash and Teleport.
Reached Cerulean and (again) spent a long time fighting Rival.
Struggled but eventually beat Misty still using just Wartortle
Progressed to just before Vermillion where I got Magikarp far enough to rare candy the rest of the way to Gyarados.
Went to S.S. Anne to kick names and take ass including Rival's.
Went through Diglett cave to get Flash.
Traded for a Farfetch'd to use Fly and Cut.
Beat Lt. Surge through excessive use of Dig with minimal difficulty.
Went back to Cerulean for Bike.
Went thru Rock Tunnel and made it to Lavender Town.
Went to Celadon and grabbed an Eevee to tide me over til I got the real rest of the team.
Evolved Eevee to Vaporeon.
Gave Lemonade to guard to access Saffron.
Beat Rocket Corner for Silph Scope.
Cleared Pokemon Tower including Rival with little effort and gained Poke Flute.
Went South to beat Snorlax on Route 11 and got Super Rod on Route 12.
Circled back past Vermilion to use Super Rod and catch Shellder.
Proceeded to Cycling Road and onto Fuchsia.
Used Super Rod on Route 19 to get Staryu.
Benched Vaporeon and went thru Safari Zone to get Gold Teeth and Surf.
Gave Gold Teeth to Warden to get Strength.
Evolved Shellder to Cloyster after learning Clamp.
Returned to Celadon and stopped.
Next up I will finally challenge Erika for my 4th badge.
- Flew to Pastoria to finally go my way to Sunyshore
- Grinded my mons in the route north and took out all the trainers.
- Went into the Gym and defeated Volkner, who wasn't that easy.

Yellow, HeartGold, Sigma Σmerald, Platinum, White 2, X, Sun.
4. Pokémon Platinum Fighting Monotype update No. 3: The scary Fantina!!
We left last time just after beating Gardenia, so Jupiter was the immediate challenge we had to face. Monferno beat the Zubat with 2 Flame Wheels, taking a lot of damage from Wing Attack. Sadly, Skuntank beat Machop with 2 Night Slashes and Poison (could not hit it with Guts-boosted moves a lot, he critted me in his second move), but it was easy for Heracross to finish the battle with 2 Brick Breaks. I went to catch Rotom for fun after the battle xD.
The Cycling road was a bit annoying as Machop was underleveled and trainers had multiple Starly and Staravia, tough opponents for Machop, and I also had some unlucky moments, but nothing too bad. But the worst was yet to come: Wayward Cave. I will never, ever, explore it without Repels again. The secret part of it, with the Bike section, OMG! I couldn't do it! It was Wild Pokémon after Wild Pokémon after Wild Pokémon, stopping my bike! I got a bit angry xD, but the reward was worth it: TM 26 Earthquake. I haven't taught it to anyone yet, it's a very important TM and one I don't want to waste (I wasted it on Heracross in Heart Gold, so it's not for Heracross). I also explored the other part of the cave, helping Mira to get out of the labyrinth.
Before reaching Hearthome City, I caught 2 important Pokémon: A Bibarel (HM Slave), and a Male Ralts! It was Hardy, so not bad as Kirlia and not bad as Gallade, I guess. I reached Hearthome and before going to the gym, I collected some items and equipped them to my team: Exp. Share for Ralts, Shell Bell for Heracross and Amulet Coin for Monferno. With the Exp. Share, battling gym trainers, Ralts reached lv 20 and evolved into Kirlia! Time to do the gym battle!
So scared... I remembered Fantina being very very tough even in a normal run, and Fighting-types (and Kirlia) are bad against her. I struggled with Gym trainers, to make matters worse, so yeah. Before entering the battle, I noticed I had an X Attack and an X Speed. I feel using this type of items is a bit cheap, but here I had no choice, my strongest moves against her were Heracross' Aerial Ace and Monferno's Flame Wheel xD. First up was Duskull. I set up Heracross against it, using the 2 items, and she went for Future Sight and... WILL-O-WISP! YES! THANK YOU! She activated Guts! A single Aerial Ace destroyed both Duskull and Haunter! Mismagius managed to survive one and hit with Psybeam, but didn't do too much damage, and the second Aerial Ace finished the battle! HERACROSS IS AMAZING! So that's the third badge! Very happy with this as I expected to struggle a lot or to actually need a lot of grinding before the battle.
And finally, the rival battle. I took the gamble and it did not pay off: Staravia beat Kirlia with 2 Quick Attacks. Kirlia left it in red because Confusion confused him, but it wasn't enough. Monferno finished Staravia off with Mach Punch. 2 Brick Breaks from Heracross beat Prinplup who made surprisingly low damage with Peck. Revenge + Vital Throw from Machop beat Ponyta, and Roselia was very easy for Monferno, a single Flame Whell was enough.
And that's it for now! (I tend to write too much xD)
And it was on October 7th!, it's been almost 8 months! But don't worry, I have not given up, as I knew this would happen because this was a tremendously tough year for me, but this summer I'll come back to this and finish it off!! I actually went on a bit further after this last update, caught a Croagunk and evolve Kirlia into Gallade, but didn't have important battles so I guess that's why I didn't update the post. I am just before taking on the fourth leader IIRC, that'll happen in July, and then I'll update the status of the team properly.
So the status of the challenge is this one:
Yellow, HeartGold, Sigma Σmerald, Platinum, White 2, X, Sun.
With 3 games beaten, and not very far into Platinum. All the games provided great experiences, especially HeartGold.
But I want to change something, Sun will be replaced with UltraSun! Maybe it'll be easier as I'll have Hawlucha extremely early, but as I have the updated game and I've already gone through both the ordinary Sun and Moon games, I wanna do it in UltraSun.
So a mini-update here just to tell I'm alive and about the 7th gen game swap. This Ultimate Monotype Challenge isn't over, I have not given up and I am convinced it'll be finished this summer because I had so much fun last year with it I want to continue!
