Yup, title says it all. It was all SOLVED when an interview with Misamitsu Hidaka in 2008 was made.

If you don't know anything about the GS Ball in the anime or whatsoever, I recommend that you don't read the spoiler tag below...

The GS Ball was meant to contain a Celebi that was to be the star of a large arc in the Johto saga.

However, it was decided that Celebi was to be the star of the fourth movie, so the story arc was viewed as redundant and shelved. The GS Ball was left with Kurt in the hope that the viewers would forget about it.

But even today, the mystery of the GS Ball is one of the most widely talked mysteries in the Pokemon Anime.

So why did you make this thread since it was "solved" back in 2008? We already know this because of that very interview and this thread seems rather pointless.

Old news is old. I think by now everyone knows GS Ball was a gimmick to get Ash to go to the Johto region. Kind of like how he met Harrison with Blaziken, Gary with Electivire, and went on a vacation to Unova.

What happened to the GS Ball?
The GS Ball was a device to have Ash go to Johto in the first place. The writers originally intended for Celebi to be in the GS Ball but dropped that idea and instead put Celebi as the star of the fourth movie.

It's also noted in the FAQ btw.
