Name: Sara Goodman

Gender: Female

Age: 15

Appearance: Sara is 4 foot, 11 inches with white skin and is of a slim build. She has medium-long, auburn hair with some yellow streaks she dyed in. Her wide eyes are of a brown-green color with long eye lashes. Sara's left arm is shorter then her right by a couple inches. Her legs are also fairly slim and her feet are around a size 7. She has a scar across her neck, which was caused when she slipped on some sharp pieces of glass.

Sara wears a red tank top with some black design on it. She wears a commando style vest over the top. She also wears a light blue pair of jeans with some rips and holes in them. Sara has a pair of black combat boots and the same color socks with the top part having a white band. She has a red sweat band on her left wrist with a pokeball symbol on it and a skull hair clip to keep her bangs out of her eyes. She also has about five thin bracelets on her right wrist with varying shades of green.

Personality: Sara has a very rebellious nature. She has never liked following 'the man' and usually does things her own way. This, of course, gets her into quiet a bit of trouble. Indeed, she is no stranger to the police. Sara is also quite loud and likes to voice her own opinions no matter what others may feel about it. Also, she has problems paying attention to anything due to her ADHD. This can led her to suddenly change the conversation or to ignore someone who was talking to her. She doesn't mean to do any of these things and tries to pay attention, but she isn't very good at it.

But, despite all of this, Sara has a great love for Pokemon. In fact, the only times she seems to behave is when there is a Pokemon involved. Though, over all, she is a decent person and will help others if she feels they truely need it. This isn't very often for she has a great distrust of most people in general. Sara believes that most people are out to get her and that it would be better if she didn't trust anyone. Though, as mentioned before, she will open up completely to a Pokemon, even if it doesn't really understands her.

History: Sara was born in Pallet Town. However, her parents were excited about this new land called Sinnoh and immigrated to the new region before Sara was even one year old. They settled in Eterna City and it was there that Sara grew up.

Though early on in her life, it was discovered that she had ADHD. This made learning very difficult especially since she refused to take her pills. She got frusterated as she saw how easily the other kids got it, but she didn't. Naturally, Sara was held back in school and just learning the same thing again only made her more frusterated. Her parents tried putting her in a different school that was made with kids like her in mind, but it didn't work out.

Eventually, problems started to happen outside of the school, landing her in trouble with the cops. Sometimes she was even put in the jail for a day or two. However, it was during one of these trips that a Growlith entered her cell. When her parents came to get her out, they saw how well she was acting with the Growlith and even how she paid attention to everything more. It was then that her parents thought that it might be best if they were to send Sara on her own Pokemon Journey, so that maybe she would learn many things on her own. They were even happier to learn that Sinnoh itself was making it's own league.

Sara, of course, agreed with the arrangment and was soon sent to Sandgem Town to get her very own Pokemon.

I opened the seventh slot, please read the first post for info on it.

Charzeon - Pending. I'd like you to elaborate more on the appearance and personality, beef it up a little and I'll accept you.

VIII.Bond Of Flame.XIV. - Looks like another addition has come to the Bihar family. I like her, you're accepted.

Oh, awesome, I get to try for the seventh spot! Here we go...

Name:
Mackenzie "Mackie" Keeler

Gender: Male

Age: 17

Appearance: Mackie is short for a guy, and despite his wishes, his growth spurt never sent him above 5'6", and he's built to weigh in at no more than 140 pounds--not skinny, he insists, but definitely less muscle than he would like, which is to his chagrin. He is active enough to have a wiry look, and combined with his usually rumpled hair and clothing can give off the impression he spends all his time outside (this is true, but it's in the fields). His hair is a wavy pale brown that gets a little blond-shot over the summer, and he keeps it a ponytail from which loose bits tend to escape when he's been working for a while.

He wears overalls and bare feet or sandals, or maybe boots if it's raining. If it's warm enough he won't bother with a shirt under the overalls, if it's colder one of a variety of plaid button-down shirts might appear, and if it's really cold, he has a couple of grandma-knitted sweaters in loud geometric patterns, along with mittens, scarf and tuque. He doesn't like coats, and prefers to layer his shirts and sweaters, though he does have a bright yellow raincoat.

Mackie has brown eyes, a narrow face and big ears that stick out from under the blue ball cap he wears to keep the sun off. His skin tans and pales with the seasons, and when its summer his shoulders, cheeks and nose wear a semi-permanent sunburn, and he gets a farmer's tan like it was drawn onto him.

Personality: Mackie seems to have an on-off switch, such that people who only know him in one mode would be surprised. When he's "on", he's in tunnel-visioned focused mode, whether it's on work OR play. He can weed a garden all morning without really noticing the time passing by, but when he's finished, he could care less about the darn garden, and could he just have some lunch and some lemonade, pleeeeeeease? When he's "off," he's mellow and relaxed, and doesn't like it when people try to ruin the mood, not that you could really tell he was irked, since a mild eyeroll is about the extent of his protest, unless something happens to jerk him out of his good mood.

Mackie is an independant spirit who appreciates good company, but he doesn't often become to attached to any leader, and once his goals or desires diverge from a group, he's content to go off on his own when it becomes possible. People who don't share Mackie's interests--pokemon, stargazing and flying--probably won't see much in him beyond a relatively easygoing (or conversely, quite obsessed) guy, because Mackie doesn't go out of his way to find out about other people. He doesn't dislike people, he's just not that interested. That said, if someone manages to extract a promise from him, he will keep it. His word is good, even if it may seem like he doesn't care that much.

History: Mackie grew up on his aunt and uncle's farm outside Solaceon, along with his two cousins, also both boys, and his "grandparents", actually his uncle's parents, and unrelated to him by blood. But his parents died in an boating accident when he was a toddler, and this family is all he's known, blood-related or not. The farm isn't a ranch, as is most common in the area, but rather a berry orchard, specializing in Rawst and Oran berries as the main crop, along with some more mundane radish, pumpkin and zucchini plots on the side.

The cost of running the farm has afforded the Keeler family a very modest lifestyle, and one thing among others that they have never had is pokemon, aside from what wild ones need to be kept out of the orchards, though bordered by ranches on either side, few wild pokemon made it close to Mackie as he grey up. Aside the Miltank herds, the only time Mackie saw pokemon was in town, where he rarely went. The itch to travel grew over time, though, despite having to stay on the farm and work to keep their income up. He started to look upward, to the sky during the day and at night. Things with wings were wonderful to him, and the stars seemed magical.

Mackie's cousin got married not so long ago, adding another body to the farm, and his aunt and uncle have told him he is free to pursue whatever he wants, finally, and he's saving up to do exactly that.

Starter: Swablu

Sample:
"Caden. Caden? Caden!!" Mackie bellowed, brandishing one of the shovels. "Get over here!"

His cousin was on the other end of the field, standing up on the fence, knees braced against the top rail. He was waving both arms, gesturing as large as he could for Mackie to come over there instead.

Mackie frowned--they had to start the holes getting dug for the new saplings--but dropped both shovels and jogged over. Maybe it was something important. He was opening his mouth to call out again, when Caden covered his own and shook his head, so Mackie took the hint and stayed quiet. He slowed down to a walk for the last few feet, and Caden's blue eyes were bright over a wide grin.

Climbing carefully onto the fence, Mackie looked over into the neighboring field, owned by the Rush family. There were a couple of Miltank in the distance, and it was a beautiful day, grass rippling in the wind under a blue sky. Very scenic. Very postcard-worthy.

Caden leaned near and whispered. "There, on the right, just wait."

Mackie watched, and waited, and was the grass twitching..? Then it outright shook for a moment, before a Staravia rose with a couple of wingflaps, dropping to land briefly on the fence, not ten yards down from them. It had a beakfull of the dried late-summer grass. For its nest? It was late in the season, but then Mackie imagined nests needed repairing, too.

It rested there for a while. Surely not that long, but it felt like ages as Mackie stared, fixed on the flyer as it adjusted itself, seemed to regard them briefly with sharp eyes, and then it launched itself into the air, rising against the picture-perfect scenery to be silhoetted against the sky before rapidly dwindling to a black speck.

Mackie stared, and felt an elbow nudge against his ribs. "Thought you'd like that," Caden said.

Name: Kenneth "Kenny" Henderson

Gender: Male

Age: 12

Appearance:
Kenneth is a dark skinned individual that has a pretty toned physique. His hair resembles a black sheep, bushy and untamed. Kenneth has green eyes and that usually gets covered by his hair when he let it get out of control. He has a pair of shades that he usually keep on his head but from time to time he wears them around his neck. Kenneth usually wears a silver necklace with a trinket that has a picture of his mom. He also wears a green watch that is water proof so he can plan things ahead of time.

Kenneth's typical outfit is a black T-shirt and an official green pokemon ranger jacket that he wears all the time. When it gets cold he wears a black long - sleeved turtle neck. He tends to stick with green sweat pants that match the jacket but will change into green shorts when it is hot enough. He wears black shoes that have green patches around the toes and green shoes laces. He carries a solid black backpack where he keeps the important stuff he needs.

Personality:
Kenneth is a timid person who can be persuaded easily. He is also an organized person who prepares for things ahead of time. He brings the things necessary for him to complete his tasks. He only gets confident in the midst of a battle when strategies and focus comes into play. Kenneth tries to be respectful whenever he can and tries to please others before himself. Kenneth is a trustworthy person that will complete a task when received and rarely complains since he tries to please them.

His timid nature comes from him not really having friends when he went to the pokemon academy. People usually only talked to him when they wanted him to do something for them. He never really tried to stand up for himself. Kenneth is trying to change but he seems to fail at it constantly and hopes that this journey helps him change. Kenneth could find a pokemon and befriend it quickly but never owned one. Kenneth really put a lot of trust into pokemon and know they will not try to hurt him like the kids in school did.

History:
When Kenneth's family first came to sinnoh he had both parents and he was very young but loved that his mom will go across the region and do research and she would bring gifts from her expeditions home all the time. One day his dad came to Kenneth that his mom was in an accident at one of her digging sight and may not come home. Kenneth heart fell down to his stomach and he did not want to believe she was gone. He kept hope that she is safe but just not found by humans. Kenneth would go outside and sit by the beach in Sandgem Town and pray to one day be reunited with his mom.

Kenneth began to distance himself for other people emotionally since his mom's accident but still tried to please them. He would run home after classes at the academy were over and do his work quickly so he can be free for the rest of the day. One day after class he took off running and tripped. The other student just laughed at Kenneth and he felt horrible that no one came to see if he was alright. Then a Bidoof walked up to Kenneth started to rub up against his arm to cheer Kenneth up. Bidoof walked with Kenneth until he reached the end of the forest and then it turned around and headed back into the forest. That day helped Kenneth realize that pokemon are very caring creature and started his trust in pokemon.

Kenneth want a way to become stronger and still get to play with pokemon. He would walk through town and in the forest trying to help pokemon and other people when he could. One day he came across a flyer that there was going to be a pokemon league in Sinnoh and it was looking for trainers. Kenneth decided he was going to take part in the first Sinnoh Pokemon League. Kenneth rushed home and began to prepare for the big day.

(First off sorry this has taken so long, i haven't had a chance to do this, swamped with HW)

Name: Jason Neinhart

Gender: Male

Age: 16

Appearance: Jason has messy shaggy hair that falls down the side of his face. He has a roughly scarred face from a pokemo accident when he was younger. He has pale brown eyes and he is just starting to get some stubble on his chin. He is about 6'2 and he has a very muscular build. When it comes to his clothes, he is fairly easy to recognize. He wears a puffy "Pirate" shirt which he rolls up onto his wrists. He wears thick leather gloves (supposedly Tauros leather) and dark brown shorts. strangely, under all of this clothing he wears a light white tee shirt and shorts. He wears Highwayman boots and his signature accessory, a salamence fang earring.

Personality: Jason is generally described as a nice person. But honestly the only people that describe him as such are his friends, Nurse Joys, Officer Jennys and family. He can be nice to strangers when he wants to, but he usually only wants to if they win his respect. When he's not being nice, he's a devious little prankster as anyone could tell you. Of course, there is always that rare moment when he takes to someone he just met, like girls he finds as pretty.
Jason hates people that are mean or evil, with such ferocity that he tends to take matters into his own hands, even if it isn't the smartest idea. He loves all pokemon, and he believes that there is no pokemon that can't be befriended. If you thought he hates evil people, you have never seen him attack someone who is mean to their pokemon or does not treat pokemon fairly. on several occasions he has actually bitten mean trainers when seeing them yelling at their pokemon.

History: Jason's life has been heavily influenced by pokemon since the day he was born. A chansey that had no egg had taken a particular liking to Jason and decided to place him in its pouch. This caused quite an uproar as no one knew where he was. Despite the whole hospital freaking out, Jason and Chansey were both enjoying themselves, Jason giggling his head off while Chansey patted his head and made reassuring souds to him. When they were finally found, Jason was squeezed and hugged to near death and Chansey was taken away to be punished. Jason made a huge uproar about it, and he didn't stop crying until they were reunited. When the day came that Jason had to leave the hospital, there was an issue. Jason cried all the way home, and didn't stop until he was asleep. But every time he woke up, he would look around and cry when he noticed that Chansey wasn't there. Eventually his parents found a solution. They bought a Chansey doll from a pokemart and let Jason play with it. This solution worked untill he had turned 5. At the age of five, Jason didn't play with his chansey doll anymore, but he still loved pokemon. He would hang out in the day care all day long, hanging out with the baby pokemon. When he turned 7, he could no longer hang out at the day care all the time because of his enrollment in trainer school. Jason studied hard, and he eventually became a strong trainer. but because he had no pokemon of his own, his dreams of becoming a real trainer were crushed.
Now that he's 16, he heard that there was going to be a tournament for powerful trainers. but there was something else he heard. They were giving away starter pokemon! Jason continues to wait patiently for his day to come. the day when he can finally be a trainer.

Starter: Pichu

Sample: The man sighed. It was going to be hard attacking a kid, but it would be worth it. The Kid staring at the man snarled " LEAVE HER ALONE!" he yelled. The man just grinned. "listen kid, I reccomend that you just leave and let me have that celebi behind you." The Kid shook his head "No! AND STOP CALLING ME KID! MY NAME IS MAX!" With the last word, Max hurled his pokeball at the man's head, catching him off guard. There was a flash of bright light and a metapod emerged from the ball squeeling " MEEEEEEEET!" This made the man laugh harder. "a Metapod? heh-heh. Kid you are so dead!" The man laughed as his pokemon emerged from behind him, a sneasel. The sneasel grinned beside his master and charged towards the metapod with a great ferocity. Max laughed. "Metapod use harden!" The Metapod's shell glowed slightly. The sneasel hit the metapod so hard it ricocheted off a tree only to come back and hit the sneasel in the face, knocking it out instantly. The man stammered "b-bu- How?" Max smiled "never underestimate your opponent, right Metapod?" The metapod Replied with a shrill "MEEEEET." With the man still stammering, Max went over to the Metapod and gave him a treat, a rare candy!Metapod had swallowed it in one gulp, only to be swallowed by a flash of light. Max just stammered. The Butterfree emerged from the light shouting "FREEEEEEEE". Max smiled. "Butterfree use stun spore!" The butterfree let a powder of yellow fall upon the still whimpering man. the man stiffened up and Max whipped out his phone.

"Hello police? hi, my name is Max. i have incapacitated A team rocket member and i am now waiting in viridian forest. i will be here when you get here." Max smiled and sat down against the tree marvelling at his new friend. he heard the pleseant rustling sound of the trees around him. he heard the sounds of the nature breathing around him, and he knew HE KNEW that this was Celebi's way of saying thanks. For saving her and the forest.

Pikakip - Declined. I'm sorry, but I told you on the su-sheet that I wanted two paragraphs for appearance. Also, the fact that you don't use spaces between paragraphs is very disorienting and makes it a messy read. And last, I find that the sample is too short. I need people who will be able to write long and descriptive posts, and you didn't show that with the sample.

Pichu is available for sigh-up now.

EDIT: Koroc - I just saw that you changed your starter to Pichu, you need to tell me these things xD Anyway you're accepted.

Chapter One:
Sandgem Town
Number of posts: 1

Sandgem Town is, just as the name suggested, a town of sand. It's located right next to the beach, with salty air and sand found almost anywhere in the city. It's one of the older towns, its buildings and houses wooden. The exception are the new Pokémon Center, Pokémon Mart, which are both made of stone and the brand new buildings stand out in the town almost as an eyesore.

The biggest building by far is the Laboratory. A two-story high wooden building with cardboard boxes surrounding it. The inside isn't much better, there's some confusing equipment plugged into various corners, huge computers took up most of the space and more cardboard boxes stood in corners, some open and spilling out their contents.

In the midst of the chaos stood Professor Rowan, a man with a dark bushy moustache and a head of dark brown hair streaked with grey. From him will you get your Pokémon, Pokédex and some Poké Ball.

REMEMBER: This is the Pokémon eighties. This means that your Pokédex will be big and not able to speak. Instead there's a huge screen that prints the information, and you have to get pretty close to get a reading.
The Poké Ball are rather new to this time. They still have their uniform red and white look but they don't shrink to a small size yet. Some of you might not trust them and use Apri Balls instead, which are balls fashioned out of Apricorns, which are a big bigger than a Poké Ball and the colour of the Apricorn they were fashioned with (Not the special balls from Silver though). Some of them might have painted decorations.

In other words: Simply head over to the Lab to receive your Pokémon. Either you accept the Poké Balls, or you prefer to use your own Apri Balls, it doesn't matter.

Ooc: I hope it is okay I used my rp sample as part of this post. If not I will retype it.

The sun began to peek through Kenny's bedroom window and its rays hit his face waking him. Kenny raises his arms and let out a yawn. Wiping his eyes, Kenny then threw the covers off him and sat on the end of the bed and just looking around his room not wanting to really start his day. Finally willing to move Kenny made his way to his closet and grabbed his jacket and shoes. Kenny tossed his jacket on the bed and then went to the drawer to take out his shirt and pants. Kenny got dressed rather quickly, went to the door to grab the goggle on the back of it, and threw them on his head.

"Hey there son." Kenny's dad said as his son walked down the stairs. "Want some Breakfast?"

Kenny smiled "Sure Dad. What did you make?"

"I made some pancakes and grits."

"That sounds good."

Kenny walked to the table and sat down. His dad walked over a bag and sat it right next to his chair. "You will need this when you go."

"Thanks Dad." Kenny said as he stirred his grits. He examined the bag and noticed something about it. "Dad was this mom's bag?"

"Yes it was your mother's bag and she would want you to have it if she was still around." Kenny's dad said pulling his chair to the table so he could eat.

Looking around the room Kenny saw all of the different rocks and fossils his mom found on her expeditions. "I am going to miss this place." Kenny said as he just stared around the dining room.

"Well just remember you can always come home for visits and just stare if you like." his dad said while smiling at his soon to be grown son.

"I will make an effort to come home every now and then just to show you how much I progressed and will be sure to write you about my adventure." Kenny said as he placed his fork done on the table about ready to get up.

Kenny finished his breakfast, then grabbed his bag, and walked over to a picture of his mom. "I will find you mom." Kenny said under his breathe as he headed to the door.

"Good Luck son." Kenny's dad said as he watched his son leave out the door.

Kenny walked a little ways out the door then turned around and looked at his house and took a deep breath. "This is it Kenny." He said turning around continuing to the lab.

Kenny saw the lab in the distance and picked up his pace. He was nervous and excited at the same time. Kenny approached the door and pushed it open. Inside all he could see was people and cardboard boxes all over the lab.

"Ah there is the young man I have been looking for." a deep voiced man said Kenny looked around the lab trying to find the one who said that. "Over here in the center of the room." the voice called trying to lead the confused boy in its direction.

"O-o-o-okay." Kenny said making his way towards the voice. Stepping over a few boxes and walking past many men who look the same he finally saw a man that actually stood out from the rest. He had dark brown hair like the rest of the men but he had a grey streak in the middle of his hair and he was also the only one without glasses.

"Young man, you must be here for the Pichu." The man said with a stern look

"Yes I am sir." Kenny said nervously

"Well then follow me to the field."

"Yes sir." Kenny said following the professor. They reached the back door and the professor shouted the name of the pokemon.

"Pichu come meet your trainer."

A few seconds later, a small yellow mouse like pokemon came running to the professor. Its ears were pointy and the edges of them had black markings. It has small pink cheeks a small black tail that is shaped like a L. It had a black spiky collar and its eyes were like two black pearls.

"Pi Picha." The pokemon cried looking at Kenny.

"Okay Kenny this is Pichu. She is an electric type pokemon and since she is young sometimes, her electric move will hurt her. Try not to use them unless you need to."

"Yes sir." Kenny said as he kneeled down and tried to rub Pichu. Pichu jumped back quickly but then walked up the Kenny and sniffed his hand. She smiled and then ran up his arm and jumped on the top of his head.

"Well come on Kenny I have a couple of other things to give you." The man said walking back into the lab. The man pulled out a book like thing from a box. "This is called a Pokedex. It is an encyclopedia that will give you information about a pokemon that is in range."

"That is cool." Kenny said finally getting a little more comfortable with the man.

"Let me show you how it works." The man walked over to Kenny and pointed the pokedex at Pichu. It started to makes noises and words started to appear on the screen. "Pichu the tiny mouse pokemon. The pouches on its cheeks are still small and cannot store much electricity yet so if any electricity leaks it will shock itself." The man said closing the pokedex.

"That is pretty convenient" Kenny said looking up at the pichu.

"Also I want you to try these out." The man handed him some rather large red and white balls.

"What are these?"

"Those are the new poke ball that we have been working on. You can always come here and exchange them for some apri balls if you like."

"Poke balls huh." Kenny said grabbing them and placing them in his bag.

"Well that should be it young man. I will see you around."

"Okay see you later mister…."

"It's Professor. Professor Rowan."

"Okay Professor Rowan I will see you later."

Kenny headed out the door with a smile on his face with his new friend Pichu.

Bryce got up from bed bright and early. Today was the day that he would get his first Pokémon and prove to the world that he was the greatest trainer alive. Whichever Pokémon he chose today would be a lucky one. It would go on to become the world's strongest Pokémon!

As he got up from bed, he was greeted by his parents. "Have fun on your journey", said his father. "Come back and visit often." This sudden cheeriness made him sick to the stomach. He just shrugged it off and left.

"Whatever," he replied in a nonchalant manner. He tried to act as if he didn't really care for the event that was about to take place, but inside, he was bubbling to the point that he would explode at any moment.

Sandgem Town wasn't very big. In fact, it was very small. It was one of those towns where everyone knew each other. He looked around at all of the familiar faces. He wouldn't be seeing any of them for a long time.

Finally, he came upon the newly built Pokémon Lab. As he stepped in, he noticed there were lots of boxes. There was equipment of all sorts. He grew even more excited as he entered.

"Hello there, young man," he turned around to see an old man looking at him. The old man wore a suit. He had gray hair covering his head and a gray mustache. In his right hand, he was carrying a suitcase. Maybe the Pokémon were in there. Bryce looked at the man, cleared his throat and spoke up.

"I'm here to start my Pokémon journey."

"Ah." The old man replied as he rubbed his chin as if he were thinking. "I see. Follow me to the back, if you don't mind." The old man walked towards the end of the room. Bryce followed, almost tripping over some boxes along the way. The old man pointed at a table. On it lays 6 red and white balls. One of the balls had already been claimed, as there was an empty slot where that ball used to be. Under each ball was a label that stated the name of a Pokémon.

"These are what you would call a Pokeball. They were used for containing the Pokémon that you will be using on your journey. They are a major improvement upon the Apri Balls that have been used in the past. At least we hope." Professor Rowan seemed to whisper that last part. Bryce looked at each of the Pokeballs. There was one that said Shuppet, one was a Phanpy, and there was even a Cranidos! Bryce had no idea what these were. The only Pokémon he had ever seen were the 3 Pokémon that Professor Oak gave out, but that was way over in the Kanto Region. He started to get the strange dinosaur looking Pokémon, as he thought it looked strong. However, something caught his eye.

"Mankey?" He asked. "What's a Mankey?" Prof. Rowan's face took on a more serious look.

"Mankey is a bit much to handle. You see, Mankey has a very quick temper. As a matter of fact, I didn't mean to put him here. I'll just…" Prof. Rowan reached to get the Pokémon but Bryce had already proceeded to release it from its Pokeball.

"I want Mankey. Yeah, Mankey's good." Bryce had found his Pokémon. He would make this Mankey the strongest Pokémon in the world! Prof. Rowan, seeing that there was no convincing him otherwise, decided to let the trainer keep the Pokémon. He went into his suitcase and pulled out a bulky red device that had a camera and some buttons on it. He recognized it immediately as one of the projects his father had been involved in. He had never really seen one in detail, as it was kind of a top secret project.

"This is a Pokedex." He explained. "You will use this to record information about Pokémon you may encounter. I must warn you, however, that not all Pokémon are recorded on this device. There are hundreds yet to be discovered!" He grinned so hard that it seemed his mustache would fall off.

Prof. Rowan proceeded to explain how to use it. Apparently, one only needs to get close (very close) to the Pokémon and press the button. The Pokedex would then print out information about the Pokémon.

He also handed him 5 Pokeball, plus the one that Mankey had come from. Bryce turned toward Mankey who had been messing with some equipment and recalled it. He then exited the lab. It was time to head off.

Chapter One

Chuy García
Location: Sandgem Town

VS Phanpy

Chuy had reached Sandgem Town a few days ago, and was living at the house of one of his mother's friends. She had worked at the Laundromat and was the one to tell Chuy's mother of the new league. She later moved to Sandgem when her husband was given a job as an assistant of Rowan. Yes, that's right, Chuy had been living with Rowan's assistant, and thus had the opportunity to not only meet Professor Rowan, but also work for him in the short time that he had before the professor was ready to hand out the Pokémon. He had expected to be able to work with the Pokémon in order to get acquainted with them, but was met up by the 'horrible' work that the assistants had to do. From moving boxes around to filing documents and keeping the in order, time in the lab passed slowly, but it kept Chuy occupied, and allowed him to gain extra money. It was all he could ask for.

Finally however, the day came for him to receive his Pokémon. He wasn't sure of all the Pokémon that Prof. Rowan had received from the new Sinnoh League, but remembered at least some of them. There was a Swablu, as well as a Mankey, a Pichu, and a Caterpie. As long as it's not the Swablu… Chuy would think, but knew that Caterpie was not the best of choices either. It was up to chance anyways, so he just decided to calm down. It was seven in the morning, and he hadn't been able to sleep one single minute. Noticing that the Sun was about to rise however, he just decided to head over and take a shower before going to Prof. Rowan's Lab. He had gotten used to being there by 6:30, but this time he wouldn't go as a worker, and rather as a trainer.

He decided to take his time in the shower, and went down to make himself some breakfast before leaving. He had packed the night before, and had nothing left to do. His bag was mostly empty, and only had some thick clothing for the colder northern regions of Sinnoh. He also had a picture of his friends back home in Pacifidlog, and one of him with his family in front of the Oreburgh Mines. Chuy chuckled at his fortune of being where he was as he toasted a Pop Tart, and served himself a glass of milk. He sighed as he finished his pitiful breakfast, he was about to start a completely new life, but he didn't know if this was really what he wanted, was he ready? Was he old enough? Would this be dangerous? Those were the questions that troubled him, but he was doing it for his mom's peace of mind, he loved her so much, he didn't know if he'd be able to say no to her.

Finally, he left the house. No goodbyes were needed since there was no one left inside. His mom's friend was out in the market, while her husband was working at the lab. As he made his way to the lab, Chuy realized that he was no longer just a kid. He needed to be an adult.

"Hey professor." Chuy greeted Prof. Rowan upon eyeing him inside the lab.

"Ahh, well if it isn't little 'Hay-sus', how are things going on your big day ehh?" he asked the kid playfully trying hard to pronounce the name correctly.

"About one hundred times worse than after I walk out of here, hopefully." He answered ingeniously, causing Rowan to chuckle.

"I hope so too." He told the small kid. Professor Rowan was still very young, and had a good sense of humor still, he also liked to be cheerful as opposed to other professors who preferred a more serious approach to work, Chuy always pinned it on his age though. "Come here, let's get you set." Chuy followed the professor into the main room, where he walked over to a particular table, and picked up a Pokéball from a box titled: 'Starters.' Turning around, he offered the red and white spherical item to Chuy and said: "Here it is, this is your starter." The kid simply took it holding it with two hands close to his chest, mumbling what seemed to be thanks.

"I'm glad that you're stoked. Here you should already be somewhat familiar with this; this is Professor Oak's first prototype of his Pokémon encyclopedia, the Pokédex. "Go on, take it. I also have some Pokéballs if you want them, unless you prefer to use your own Apriballs."

Chuy simply motioned that he needed the Pokéballs as he took the heavy Pokédex and placed it in his bag. He had to admit that while he had gotten accustomed to the lab, the whole deal was kind of overwhelming. He again mumbled thanks to the professor as he took the Pokéballs and placed them in his bag.

"Alright then," the professor said as he slapped Chuy serenely on the shoulder, "go out there, and do your best."

"I will." The kid answered as he made his way out. On the way he encountered his temporary father working, and gave him his thanks as he made his way outside. Once having left the lab, Chuy proceeded to release his newly obtained Pokémon, and out came…

"Phanpy!"

…a tiny blue elephant who started moving its nose around playfully, happy to finally be out of its Pokéball.

"Let's see…" Chuy said as he took out the Pokédex. "If I remember correctly, I get a response from a somewhat close position, and press…" he took the machine closer to his Pokémon before a light blinked, and the machine started sending a loud buzzing noise before the words made themselves clear on the screen. It read:

'Phanpy, the Long Nose Pokémon. Phanpy uses its nose to show affection. Not realizing its strength, it can send you flying. They are also known for collecting items they find.' There was no picture, no sound, or map of their area, just text on a green and black screen.

"Phanpy!" the small Pokémon cried cheerfully, wagging its nose happily at being recognized by the machine; this would be a story worth telling to the grandchildren.

The sun shone brightly overhead, decorating a nearly blindingly blue sky. There was a hush in the air as Ethan left the house in the direction of the Laboratory. It took an astonishingly short time for him to reach it; the distance seemed to have been covered within a span of a single heartbeat. Even so, he did not question it. After all, today was going to be the day he received his very first Pokemon. It took some effort, as always, not to turn up his nose at the shabby building. But this time was different. This time, there was something truly fantastic, and his, inside.

He pushed the door open and was immediately greeted by a tall woman with long flowing blonde hair. Having never met Professor Rowan, Ethan just assumed that everyone else in the world was wrong, and the Professor was female. A very nice female, at that. Smiling widely with a vacuous expression she greeted him and handed him an Apri ball. He unscrewed the top knob and a ball of light flew out, hit the floor, and began to take form. Within moments the light expanded, growing taller and wider until it crashed through the ceiling. The ceiling then evaporated or disappeared in a similar manner. The light took on the appearance of wings, a long, spiked tail, and rows of protrusions along the back of the form. Then the light faded, leaving an abnormally large Lugia in its place.

"I knew it!" Ethan exclaimed. "I knew I would get something awesome."

At the sound of his voice the Lugia looked down and tilted its head, reminiscent of a pigeon. Then in one decisive movement it dipped its neck and swallowed him whole.

With a violent twitch Ethan awoke and promptly fell off of the bed. He jumped to his feet quickly with a glance around to make sure no one had seen that. Who would, considering it was his room and the door was shut, he didn't know. Perhaps the Glameow may have pushed the door open and waddled in, as the fat Pokemon often did. But she hadn't, and for that he was grateful.

Ethan's light grey eyes flitted to the analog alarm clock positioned on the table next to his generously sized bed. The angle of the hands told him it was nearly seven. On most days he wouldn't even consider beginning the day this early, but this was a special case. Not only was his shin smarting from his fall, but he would be receiving his first Pokemon today, thus the fantastic dream he'd been having. He truly hoped for something magnificent. Whatever it was, he knew he could make it the best battler ever born, worthy of belonging to a true Master.

A small smile curved his lips as he took a short and rushed shower so as to look presentable. He was a master at cleaning up his appearance, if only because he always wanted to outshine everyone in the room. He combed through his hair until it looked halfway decent and threw on a clean black shirt and pair of dark jeans, cinching a belt around the waist. He didn't have to look perfect, he knew, and he didn't want to, because it wasn't like training was going to be clean work. After slipping his feet into his favorite black and white shoes he was ready.

...or so he thought. Ethan was about to go out the front door when it occurred to him maybe he should go to breakfast so he could say goodbye properly and eat something before he left. He turned tail and entered the dining room, where his mother and father were both seated at the table, already eating breakfast.

"Good morning, dear," Mrs. Sarvois said affectionately. "You look simply dashing. Be sure and eat your fill, I don't want you to get hungry."

Ethan flashed a smile as he sat down and piled his plate high with bacon, scrambled eggs, waffles, hash browns, french toast, and two pieces of toast. Mrs. Sarvois had never really had to worry about Ethan eating too little. As a matter of fact, it was a wonder he wasn't four times as wide as he was. He supposed it was his young age and fast metabolism. Even so, she constantly agonized over whether or not he was getting too thin. She watched him now, making sure he was actually eating his mountain of nutrition instead of just pushing it about his plate to appease her.

It didn't take him long to finish the entire plate. When he did he wiped his lips with his napkin politely and glanced up, knowing he was not to leave until given permission by his father. Mr. Sarvois was a very strict man, and things were always done his way or not at all. It could be said Ethan had developed similar traits, but they were never present in front of his father.

When all plates were empty Mr. Sarvois nodded to his wife. Beaming, she reached under the table and produced a medium-sized pack, to be slung over his back, of grey and black material.

"We bought it for you last night, dear," she said happily as she passed it to Ethan. "It's got I don't even know how many pockets, so you can keep all your things nice and organized."

He turned the bag over in his hands, examining it happily to find that it was already full of clothes, food for both him and his Pokemon, and the necessities, such as a comb, antiperspirant, and medicines for whatever might ail him.

"Thank you," he said simply. He had never been one to partake in such niceties, but these were his parents, and not only did they expect it, but they deserved it.

Mr. Sarvois turned a stern eye upon him. "Now, listen, Ethan. I don't know what starter you're getting, they weren't able to tell me. But I expect you to bring pride to the Sarvois name, no matter what it is. Even if it's a Wurmple, I expect you to raise it to its full potential and eliminate anyone who stands in your way. It is how I got to the top, and it is how you shall do the same."

Perhaps for most young men, to hear a speech like that from their father would be upsetting, even disconcerting. But not to Ethan. That had been the nature of his relationship with Mr. Sarvois for his entire life, so it was normal.

"I will," he promised.

All that done, he was excused. He hugged his mother once more before leaving, with a promise to call as soon as he got to the Pokemon Center in the next town. His father shook his hand stiffly and wished him luck. With that he pulled the straps of the bag over his shoulders and made his way to the front door. The Glameow mewled up at him solemnly. Though he'd never liked her, he knelt down and pet her on the head a few times before he straightened up and stepped over the threshold, leaving the house, not to return for a time he could not determine. The thought was frightening, but exciting at the same time.

The trip to the Lab took longer than it had in his dream, naturally, though he did get there eventually. Stepping around cardboard boxes that littered the outside, Ethan pulled the creaky door open and entered the spacious first room. He cautiously inched inside further until he found a lab associate that pointed him in the correct direction. He then followed the path she described and found Professor Rowan at the end of it, as promised. Though he was not blonde or female, as he had dreamed, he seemed nice enough.

Ethan was greeted with enthusiasm. Slightly unnerved by meeting such a lax Professor, he waited until the introductions were over to ask, "What starter am I getting, exactly?"

With a laugh, Rowan led him to a row of red and white spherical objects. Ethan gave him a quizzical look, which only made him laugh again.

"These are Pokeballs," he explained. "Sort of a prototype for the next generation of Pokemon containment devices. They're a step up from Apriballs, though not as much is known about them and their weaknesses. They're also a slight bit larger. But they're much more convenient. Instead of having to screw a knob you just have to push this white button in the middle, and your Pokemon will be released."

Ethan nodded slowly, taking all of the information in and committing it to memory. "Alright. So which of them belongs to me?"

Rowan gestured at the balls with one hand. "Any of them. Just take one. To be fair, once you choose it you can't return it. It's sort of a Pokelottery, if you don't mind me saying."

Yes, Ethan did mind him saying. But he wasn't about to disrespect the man who was giving him a Pokemon for absolutely free. While money would not have been an issue, he certainly didn't mind getting things free of charge. So he examined the row carefully, noting that there was absolutely no hint as to what was inside any of the balls. Finally, after careful consideration, he reached out and took the one in the very middle.

His heart sank as he saw the name in the indention where the ball had been. "Caterpie?"

Rowan nodded, showing much more enthusiasm than he. "Yes, Caterpie, a larval-stage bug Pokemon. They usually don't seem like much, but you should never underestimate them. The greatest power often comes in the smallest, squishiest package."

Ethan was not convinced, but he knew there was no changing it. He had already chosen it; his only option, he thought, was to capture more Pokemon and raise them instead, and maybe give Caterpie to someone else.

Rowan interrupted his thoughts with more enthusiasm. "I see you're already packed. Here's a Pokedex to go with it. It'll help you record information on all of the Pokemon you meet. Just get close to the Pokemon and press the button here. A short description will scroll across the screen here."

He accepted the portable encyclopedia with a faint smile. Rowan then handed him five Pokeballs and shooed him out.

"Now go! Go make a name for yourself."

Taking that as a much-wanted opportunity to get away from the Professor in his shame, Ethan swiftly strode out of the lab and into the sunlight, ball clenched tightly in his hand. "Why you?" he growled audibly. As if on cue, there was a flash of red light and his new partner appeared on the ground in front of him. It looked up at him with large dark eyes and squeaked happily.

Deciding he might as well learn something about the useless creature, Ethan pointed the Pokedex at it and watched the words scroll across the screen.

'Caterpie, the Worm Pokemon,' they read. 'Its short feet are tipped with sticky pads that allow it to tirelessly climb slopes and walls. If you touch the feeler on top of its head it will release a horrible stink to protect itself.'

"Lovely. You're useless and you stink."

Instead of seeming offended, the Caterpie climbed up his pant leg and onto his shoulder, where it chirped happily on his shoulder. He glared at it from the corner of his eye. "What are you doing? Get off, you disgusting insect."

He swatted at it, but it dodged his every attempt, just moving from shoulder to shoulder as necessary. Frustrated, he gave up. "Fine. Stay there."

It seemed more than happy to do so as he started walking again. Instead of yelling at it some more, he remained silent, as did the Caterpie. He would find something better, he was sure of it. And he would make sure it wasn't a stupid bug. As he followed the road out of Sandgem he played with the Pokeball in his pocket, belonging to the Pokemon now perched on his shoulder. How had he managed to get the worst of them all, when he deserved the best of everything?

Mackie had never been so far from home in his life, and it was amazing. Everything felt new and different. These trees? Totally new (even though there were the same exact species growing around Solaceon). Those flowers? Beautiful and wonderful-smelling and new (this time it was true--he hadn't seen these tiny blue flowers back home. Probably needed this sandy kind of ground).

He'd made the journey over with a door-to-door apri-ball salesman who had a few pokemon of his own, a Kricketune and two Buizel, which made it safe to travel, and the man had bemoaned the new advancements, and these new "pokeballs".

Mackie saw where the man was coming from... the new pokeballs he'd seen a couple of times after that new Pokemart had been constructed back home looked slick and pretty nice, really, but Mackie liked rustic, too. He liked the way you could paint an apri-ball or decorate it a bit. You could probably put stickers or something on the pokeballs, but that wouldn't have that true hand-made feel.

But... pokeballs were new. And it was hard not to like them, just for that, especially with the way Mackie felt today. He'd been buzzing with energy ever since he'd left.

And he was almost here. The salesman and he had parted ways upon entering town, though not after Mackie had bought two apri-balls and a little kit to decorate them with. The smooth brown hulls were begging to be painted, but first.

But first!

Mackie remembered directions well, but he pulled out the well-worn piece of paper with the small map that had come in his letter from Professor Rowan. Yes, he was still going the right way.

This town was small, it would be hard to get lost, though Mackie stared at the buildings and the trees and everything (it was all so new...) that he did nearly trip into a drainage ditch at one point. He caught himself and stared around him. No one was nearby. Phew.

He straightened his overalls, tugged at the shirt collar that Aunt Laura had said he really out to wear, to be presentable, and made the effort to keep his eyes on the road.

And THAT was the lab. No mistaking it.

Mackie jogged forward, gripping his backpack straps to stop it bouncing too much, and only halted at the edge of a serious mess of boxes. It was even worse than when Phillip's wife had moved onto the farm. Janie had a lot of stuff, but not this much.

The front door was wide open, but movement off to the side caught his attention. A white lab coat, or part of it, as someone was bent over, head inside a tall box.

The someone straightened up, a silver machine-looking something-or-other held in both hands. "There you are, you darn thing. Why you weren't packed with the rest, I can't imagine."

The man had a mustache that Mackie's uncle would've envied, though not so much the grey in his hair.

"Sir? Excuse me?" Mackie raised a hand in tentative greeting. His momentum was poised on hold now.

"Well!" the man turned to face him and gave a smile. "Good day, son. Would you be one of the trainers-in-waiting?" Rowan chuckled a little.

"Yes sir," Mackie nodded sharply and stood up straight. It occurred to him he ought to remove his hat, and he yanked that off his head a moment later. Rowan seemed amused, but in a good way. "Mackenzie Keeler, sir."

"Yes, yes," Professor Rowan nodded like he'd known that. Must be the overalls. Mackie had been surprised to discover hardly anyone wore them outside Solaceon. But these were a good pair, nice and clean--okay a bit dusty from walking, and the bandanna tied to the hammer-loop was bright and new. "Now come along, time to pick someone out," the Professor waved him after with one hand, carrying the machine part in the other arm.

Inside the lab wasn't much better than outside, though more headway was being made here, it looked like--a lab assistant or someone was organize a shelf, one of many still to go.

The professor led him to one table that was mostly cleared of debris. "Alright now. Look at this like your journey--you don't know what you'll find along the way, and this is the first step just like that. Choose whichever one you like."

Mackie looked at the professor, and back at the shiny pokeballs. They all looked equally shiny and mysterious, and there really was no way he could tell any kind of differences. He reached out and took the one on the end of the row, grabbing the ball slowly, lifting it carefully, feeling the weight of it in his hands. It seemed cool to the touch, but he knew there was something alive inside, as artificial as it was.

"Swablu!" the professor announced, and Mackie looked up at him.

"Er, bless you?" he offered.

"No, no," Rowan chuckled again. "That is the pokemon you have chosen."

"Never heard of that sorta pokemon," Mackie answered, inspecting the ball, and trying not to feel disappointed. He'd hoped for a Starly or maybe even a Murkrow. Or even a bug, maybe, something that would grow up and fly. Beautiflies were real pretty. "Swablu, huh. C'mon out, then," he said, glancing at Rowan for permission before finding and pressing the release button.

He was holding it too close to his face, and was dazzled for a moment by the red flare. He heard a very soft couple of whumph-whumph sounds, and then something settled on his head. "Er," he said, turning his head slightly as he automatically tried to see what it was. Little feet were tugging his hair, but lightly, and something soft was tickling his forehead.

"Oh, yes, she does enjoy doing that. But try lifting your arm, and she'll move over. I daresay she's curious too."

Mackie did just that, holding his arm up, and felt the little feet step onto his arm, a warm tummy, and the soft things again.

He lowered his arm, keeping it steady.

It was... a ball of white fluff? But then the fluff quivered and shifted, and rearranged, folded at the sides of a round, vibrant, blue, feathery body. Bright eyes watched him, and a neat white beak was a little bit open, as if it was smiling.

"It's a bird," he said, looking up at the professor.

"That is correct," Rowan nodded, "Not as aerodynamic as the common Starly, as you might well guess, but Swablu are quite gregarious, and enjoy the company of humans even when not training--in Hoenn, they often live by towns and cities. They are somewhat rarer in Sinnoh, newly come to this region. I believe a small population arrived with humans who came to live here, but hasn't established itself fully."

Mackie was enchanted. This pokemon was a flyer, and it was a pokemon he'd never even heard of. "Hiya," he said to the Swablu, grinning like crazy. It ruffled its--her--her soft wings and shifted on his arm, looking energetic and happy.

"This is also for you," the professor added, handing Mackie something red and electronic-looking. Mackie wanted badly to get on with meeting the Swablu properly, but steeled himself and paid attention like he should. It hardly took any coaxing for the Swablu to tuck herself on his shoulder. "That is a pokedex. It records data about pokemon you encounter."

Mackie poked at it, squinting at the screen. "Like a diary?" It was a little heavy, but at least it didn't seem fragile.

"Yes, but it's automatic. It will have more information the more places you go."

"Oh, professor, I'm gonna go everywhere," Mackie said absently, pressing a button and suddenly seeing a map with a question mark on it. The entry that it had showing was of course for Swablu, but it looked like the professor had been right--they were rare around here, too rare to find that easy.

"That's just what I like to hear, my boy. And there is one more thing, or things, I should say," the professor added. "I have some pokeballs for you, just like the one your Swablu was in." He turned back to the table, then hmmed, and ducked underneath it to rummage.

Mackie had a couple of apri-balls already, and he didn't want to overload himself too badly, but he did take three of the fancy new ones too. That wouldn't be too much extra in his bag.

After thanking the professor, and offering to help him unpack (this was politely declined, and Mackie thought that was for the best--all that machine stuff looked like it needed hands that knew how to hold it), Mackie was off again, brimming with contentment, and wearing a Swablu on his head.

"You gotta have a name, pretty girl," Mackie said, looking up as he walked, relaxed and easy, down the road again.

"Swaaaablu," she answered a little trill in the soft sound. Sounded like she liked the idea. But it had to be a good name. He wasn't gonna rush it.

"You wanna fly, pretty girl?" Mackie asked. "You don't hafta sit there the whole time unless you wanna."

He felt her feet push off from his head, and the whumph-whumph of her soft wings as she took off, gliding around him in a circle once, and then again, as if reassuring him she knew to come back, then rose a bit overhead, wings out on a breeze.

Mackie wondered how many ditches he'd fall into from watching her fly.

Selene was staring up at the darkness that was her bedroom ceiling. She couldn't yet see anything, but that was most likely because it wasn't daylight just yet and she didn't have any lights on. Selene occasionally fidgeted, but other than that she was completely still and silent. Truthfully she wasn't thinking about the big day ahead, she was thinking about this boy who had recently moved into the house next door. I should probably be musing about my Pokemon, Selene thought with a wry twitch of her lips. She had to admit, he was cute. His hair was brown and fell to his shoulders in soft waves. He had a light tan complexion, but she couldn't tell if it was from the sun or not. Here she was, just starting to get along with him, and now she was leaving on this journey. Yawning lightly, Selene rolled over and thoughts of Pokemon chasing her away from her newfound crush filled her mind.

Just roughly seven hours later, at about six in the morning, Selene was awake again. She sat up in her bed and slumped a bit, the sheets quickly forming a pool at her waist. She twisted the cover in her fingers for a moment, and then spared a quick glance at the slightly illuminated clock that was sitting on her nightstand. It was showing her that it was roughly six thirteen in the morning. Selene sighed. She wanted to go wake up Sahib and talk to him, but she had a funny feeling that if she woke him up that early he wouldn't be too happy with her. After roughly five or so minutes of internal debate, Selene shoved her covers aside and slipped out of her warm bed and onto the cool floor of her room. She tugged on her oversized T-shirt and then tiptoed through their adjoining bathroom and into her brother's room. Quietly pushing his door in, Selene winced as it creaked. She then glanced at her brother.

Sahib was sprawled across the bed, mouth open and half snoring, but not really. His hair was splayed all over the pillow. His feet, being too big for the bed, were practically hanging off the edge. His left arm was underneath his pillow while his right was hugging another random pillow that he had managed to stuff onto his already full bed. Selene giggled a bit and caught herself. She glanced at Sahib again, and was once more pleased to find that he was asleep still. Selene padded over to his bed and hesitantly poked her older brother in his shoulder. He grumbled and swatted at her, then rolled over and mumbled something. Selene rolled her eyes and then gave him a good shove. He rolled off the bed. Selene blinked. She hadn't expected that to happen.

Selene heard a form of a growl from the opposite side of the bed, coming from the floor. She peered over the edge and saw Sahib simply laying there. He turned his head towards her and glared at her. She gave him her best innocent grin. He sighed heavily and thumped his head back down on the wooden floor.

"What. The. Hell?" Sahib snapped.

"I wanted to talk to you," Selene stated simply. Her brother's intimidating face didn't intimidate her anymore. She was used to it now. Sahib sighed and pushed up from the floor. He held up a finger, grabbed something from the floor, and then walked off into the bathroom. Selene rolled her eyes and waited. Moments later he came back in with a shirt on and his hair neatly brushed. "Wow," she stated simply. "You're worse than a girl."

"No I'm not," Sahib retorted. "I just like to be clean. Unlike you." He plopped down on the bed and looked over at his sister. "So what did you want to talk about anyway? Oh, and why did it have to be at like..." Sahib paused, glancing over at the clock, "...six in the morning."

Selene looked at the clock. "It's six twenty-two, Hibby," she grumbled back. A smirk formed on her face. Sahib's eyes narrowed at her.

Sahib waved his hand. "Oh, whatever. And don't call me that." Sahib just wasn't a morning person. He snapped a lot.

"Sahib," she whined, pouting at him. "Seriously though."

"Alright, alright, alright," he consented. "What's the issue?"

"I'm not sure if this is a good idea," she mumbled, staring at her hands. Sahib looked at her long and hard. He didn't say anything. Selene refused to meet her brother's gaze. "I mean, I'm probably no good like you anyway. When you use mom and dad's Pokemon, you're like the best!" Selene had reverted to accidentally ranting now. "I just don't think it'll work out. I mean...I just..."

"Selene?"

"Huh?"

"Shut up." Sahib stared at her, waiting for this to register. She blinked at him. "You'll be fine if you just go with it and don't worry. Just go with the flow. Don't let losing or winning take you over and kill your self-esteem. Pokemon feel your emotions." Sahib then offered her a small smile. "You'll be fine. So just shut up and go kick ass." Selene giggled a bit. "Good. Now, because you've interrupted my seeing-you-off-time, I will sleep in while you go get your little Pokemon. And I expect you to tell me what it is. Got it?"

She nodded, grinning widely at him. "You're such a weirdo, Sahib." He smirked at her. "But I guess I'll miss you." Sahib stood and hugged her briefly. "Bye bhaji," she mumbled.

"You'll kick ass." Sahib let go and gave her a soft smile. Then he turned and slipped back into bed. Selene rolled her eyes and quietly exited her brother's room.

She walked through the single floor house quietly, hoping not to disturb her parents. She flipped on the kitchen light and squeaked in surprise when she saw her father sitting at a chair on the porch outside. He appeared to be sipping coffee, something that didn't surprise her. When the light flicked on, he glanced back at her and shot her a brief smile. She hesitantly smiled back. He stood up and walked in the house, shutting the screen porch door behind him. Selene walked to the refrigerator and got out the bagels.

"You don't want an omelette or something?" her father questioned. Ah, good old parental concern.

"No, I'm fine daddy," she said lightly. "Where's mom?"

"Sleeping."

"Isn't that where you would normally be?" Selene asked, popping the bagel in the toaster. Her father simply shrugged.

"I did work all night," he said.

Ah, of course. That really didn't surprise her. Selene waited for the bagel to pop up, which it did moments later. Her father was washing out his now empty coffee cup as she began to butter the bagel. Her father then disappeared somewhere, so Selene was left alone to eat in silence. Minutes passed, and then moments later her mom (looking slightly annoyed and rumpled) came grumbling out of her parent's room. Her father was in tow, a smirk of amusement on his face.

"Your mother almost didn't get up," her dad said. "Terrible."

"Mom," Selene gasped, looking completely.

"Oh, don't you two gang up on me," her mom warned. She grumbled under her breath and snatched her husband's coffee cup he had refilled from his hand. After a sip, a funny face, and handing it back to him, she declared, "You make it too bitter." Then she sat down on the chair opposite of her daughter. "So are you ready for your big day?"

"You make it sound like I'm getting married," Selene mumbled. She took a bite out of her bagel and chewed slowly. "But yup. I'm ready to get my Pokemon and start that journey deal."

Her father chuckled. They both looked over at him, but when he didn't comment they ignored him. Selene continued eating her bagel and chatting with her parents for the next hour. She figured it would not be good for her to go to Professor Rowan's lab at roughly six in the morning anyway. So, when it was time for her to go, she took a bit more time than she probably needed to in the bathroom. Selene paused and looked at her brother's door. I'm gonna miss you, bhaji, she thought sadly. With a soft sigh, she exited the bathroom and lugged her bag to the kitchen once more. Her parents had been quietly talking, and now they had stopped to look at her. She offered them a bit of a smile, which was all she could manage at the time. They gave her silent hugs and then soft goodbyes, and suddenly she found herself on the road.

The trip wasn't too far, nor too bad. It was almost eight fifteen when she knocked on the old wooden door. She hesitantly knocked, and blinked in surprise as the door basically swung open on its own. Now was that creepy, or what? Selene stepped inside, and glanced around. To her, it reminded her a bit of what her father's basement did. Giant computers with weird equipment everywhere. Selene grumbled something under her breath about crazy science geeks, and then suddenly a man popped out before her. She started a bit, but didn't shriek or jump. The man looked middle-aged. His hair was dark brown, yet going gray. As for his bushy mustache, it was brown like his hair.

"Hello there," he said cheerfully. "Sorry if I startled you. I'm going to guess and say that you are here to pick up your Pokemon, are you not?"

Selene nodded. "Yup," she said, popping the 'p'. She never really was much of a talker around strangers. "So...where is it?"

"Well..." he trailed off, glancing at the shelves. "There's not many left. You were a little slow." Selene's eyebrow shot up. She honestly couldn't believe she was late, but oh well. "Come with me." He folded his hands together behind his back and then led her towards his overly crowded desk. Wow, he was like her father in a few ways. It scared Selene a bit. She really hoped her father didn't turn into a bushy-mustached old man. A shudder ran through her.

"Aha! Cranidos."

"Crani-what?"

"Cranidos. It's a Pokemon. Very rare, actually," he stated fondly. "I think this one might be a little rowdy, but I'm sure you can handle it." He handed her the shiny red and white Pokeball. She carefully took it from his hand, looking like she was partially afraid it was going to bite. "Ah. I almost forgot. Here you go," he declared. He handed her fire white and red balls along with a funky big machine thing. Selene blinked at the heavy object. Her hand dropped slightly the moment she felt it in her palm. "It's a bit heavy," Rowan said, almost regretfully. "You'll have to get rather close as well, but it's called a Pokedex! Very good piece of technology that will record your Pokemon's information, and let you learn about them." Rowan looked about. "Well..."

"Er...thanks," Selene said rather lamely. "Uhm...thanks a lot."

"Why you're welcome!" he said cheerfully once more. Selene blinked. "I'd suggest you take the time to get to know your Pokemon later."

Selene thanked him again, and then slowly backed out of the lab. Once outside, she looked at the shiny Pokeball. Ha! Sahib will be SO jealous! Suck it, big brother! Selene thought with a wide grin on her face.

*bhaji=older brother

Chapter Two:
Route 302
Free Post
Number of Posts: 1-2

Route 302 is a short, foresty road leading up to the big Jubilife city. There is a thick forest on the edges, and some runaway trees through the route itself. The road is mapped out, but stray into the thick bushes and find Pokémon. Stray farther into the forest and you might find rarer ones… Especially with the additions that Sinoh's government had made to the natural wildlife of the routes, you might find yourself pleasantly surprised.

This is a Free Post, which means you have complete freedom. Within certain guidelines of course, there's always certain guidelines. Just keep it realistic, or as realistic as can be in a Pokémon roleplay. Some things you need to clear with me first, such as shinies and trades and all that jazz. If you're uncertain about something, don't be afraid to post it in the OOC, or send me a message, I don't bite… fatally.

What to do on a route:
-Catch a Pokémon
-Battle a trainer
-Do some crazy things that will make me laugh.
(Bonus points for the last one.)

What not to do:
Catch a Pokémon and battle a trainer in one post. If you choose to try and capture a creature, then you automatically forfeit your right of exp. So think to yourself, do I really want this addition to the team, or would I be better up leveling my existing team?
Go ahead and combine the last one with the others though xD In fact, please do. It might boost your level.

Notes on catching Pokémon:
-Always end your post with your Ball shaking. And I mean always.
-The rarer the Pokémon the harder the capture.
-I'm not difficult on letting you catch a Pokémon (Unless shiny or very rare), but your level heavily depends on the quality, and quantity, of your post.
-As a gift to awesome posts, either be it funny, an epic battle/capture or just fantastic in any other way, your captured Pokémon might reveal to have an egg move!

Now that that's out of the way, let's get on with the fun stuff.

Like a squishy sore the Caterpie remained on Ethan's shoulder, a reminder of his complete and utter failure at obtaining what he considered to be a real Pokemon. Every now and then it shifted its weight, using its suction cup feet to keep hold of his shirt. Every time it did he grumbled under his breath. Why the stupid thing hadn't taken the hint yet, he had no idea. Clearly he did not like it, he did not want it, and he never would. Nothing would change that. So wouldn't it do better to cut its losses and maybe go off into the forest and become a wild Pokemon?

"Why don't you do that?" he asked it irritably. "Why don't you go off and be a wild Caterpie?"

It made a purr-like sound and nuzzled him with its large head. He grunted, speeding up so that before he knew what was happening the houses of Sandgem were out of his sight and he was surrounded by forest on all sides. Dirt crunched under his feet, forming an impression of his sneakers to show where he had been. The sand did not do that, so that was just a sign that he was getting farther away from his home for the last several years and he didn't even notice. All because he was too busy fuming over the harmless creature on his shoulder.

Silence surrounded them, save for the chirping of bird Pokemon in the trees and scattered cries from things off of the path. Uneasiness began to settle in Ethan's chest as he glanced around, finally realizing how far exactly from home he was. As much as he hated to admit it to himself, the Caterpie was slightly comforting. Though they were basically useless in battle, at least it was a Pokemon, and he was sure it would battle for him. Whether he intended to keep it afterward or not, it would battle.

At the present moment, his plan was to catch something, anything, then give the Caterpie away when he got to the next town. That way he could begin anew with a fresh partner, something worth training. Deep in the pit of his stomach he felt something, something that might be classifiable as guilt. But he didn't think about it too hard, and he found he could ignore it completely if he focused on other things, such as the dirt path ahead of him. He was sure somewhere, on either side of him there was a Pokemon. Now was the time to be on the lookout for it.

Several more minutes passed in silence, until Ethan heard a rustling sound in the bushes. Both alarmed and excited, he turned to face it. Caterpie seemed to take the cue from its trainer and made an odd sound, almost like a repetitive chirping battle cry. He ignored it completely and followed the sound cautiously, eyes peeled for anything that might be of interest. Low bushes surrounded the way off the path so he walked through them slowly and carefully, not wanting to harm himself or any nesting Pokemon. After a short search he came upon a mouse-like Pokemon with its back to turned to him, purple fur ruffled and messy from living in the wild. As if it knew exactly what he wanted it to do Caterpie was on the ground and behind the Pokemon at once, spitting a gooey string at it. It hissed angrily and turned on a dime, baring long teeth, red eyes giving it a fierce appearance for its size. But Caterpie was unperturbed. It dashed to the side to avoid a lunge from the Pokemon, aiming a Tackle at it and hitting it in the side successfully. During the melee Ethan took out his Pokedex and pointed it at the fighting pair. It took a few tries not to hit Caterpie with the beam, but he got the other's information soon enough.

'Rattata, the Mouse Pokemon,' it explained. 'It scurries around quickly, searching for objects to gnaw. It appears unable to sit still. If you see one it is likely there are forty more in the area.'

It's not rare, but it'll do, he thought. Caterpie seemed to be doing pretty well on its own, without his direction, but he decided to give it a try. After all, they said Pokemon did better when given instruction.

"Caterpie!" he called out, to see if it would listen. It perked up immediately at the sound of his voice, waiting for his orders.

"Slow it down with String Shot, then Tackle it," he commanded. It did as he said, spitting stringy gunk at it and then pummeling the Rattata with its soft green body. "Keep hitting it."

The Caterpie continuously whacked at the Rattata and spit string at it until it was nearly unable to move. Was that the time to throw a Pokeball? He could only assume so. He opened his pack and retrieved one of the red and white balls he had been given by Professor Rowan. Their inability to contain Caterpie had him questioning their strength, but they were indeed more convenient than Apriballs.

"Alright, back up," he ordered. Caterpie did as it was told and watched as Ethan threw a ball. It hit Rattata square on the head and opened up, engulfing it in red light and swallowing it whole. Then Ethan waited with bated breath, watching the visible signs of the Rattata's struggle with the ball from the inside. It shook violently, nearly rolling on its side at several points, held in place only by the lush grass. It continued to move once, twice, three times...

Kenny finally happy to get his first pokemon he decided to run as fast as he could to the next town. Pichu sat up on Kenny's head laughing and clapping her hands as the wind pushed her ears back. The area started to get darker and darker as they got closer to the forest. Pichu loved that the forest was very similar to the fields in the lad and hopped off her trainers head and ran into the bushes.

"Hey Pichu wait!" Kenny said running after her. Pichu made her way to another yellow mouse pokemon but this one was taller and had longer yet skinner ears.

"Pika pi pi." The pokemon yelled at Pichu and then shoved her.

"Hey stop that." Kenny yelled running over to Pichu to see if she was okay.

"So that pipsqueak of a pokemon is yours huh?" A older gentleman said.

"Yeah she is mine."

"Lets battle. It will be target practice for my Pikachu." Pikachu walked over to his trainer laughing at Pichu.

"Well do you want to fight Pichu?" Kenny asked and the Pichu jumped out of his hands ready to fight. "Well it is settled then."

"Okay Pikachu lets wrap this up. Now execute Focus Punch!" Pikachu's right fist began to glow and he spun his arm in a circular motion.

"Pichu use ……. Huh….." Kenny said not knowing what she could do yet. Pichu didn't want to stand around and get hit so she pulled a box wrapped in colorful paper out of then air and tossed it at Pikachu.

"What it can use present!" The trainer said shocked as the box landed in front of Pikachu. It tried to jump over the box but it opened exploding sending pikachu backwards. "Lucky shot punk."

"Pichu that was awesome. Now use present again." Pichu made another box appear and tossed it at Pikachu.

"Quick dodge it Pikachu." Before Pikachu could move the box landed and opened. A cloud of white smoke came out and instead of exploding I seemed to have healed the injured Pikachu.

"Hey what gives I thought it was suppose to explode?" Kenney said confused.

"That is the luck of present dude. I can hurt or heal your opponent. Now Pikachu use Iron Tail. Pikachu's tail began to glow white and he charged at Pichu.

"Um…um…um Pichu use thundershock." Pichu backed up a little then blue sparks started to come from his cheeks. "Pichaaaaaaaaaa." she yelled emitting blue sparks at Pikachu.

"Pikachu jump quickly and then strike." Pikachu jumped dodging the sparks and then continued at Pichu who began to wobble from the electric attack hurting her. Pikachu swung its tail striking Pichu in her chest.

"Pichaa!" she cried in pain as she fell backwards. Struggling back to her feet Pichu dusted herself off.

"Pikachu finish with a focus punch." Pikachu hand began to glow and then immediately vanished as blue sparks surrounded Pikachu's body.

"That must be Pichu's static ability." Kenny said thinking about turning this game around. " Now Pichu present and follow it with thundershock. Throwing the box that it made appear at Pikachu and then quickly following it with a thundershock.

"Pikachu come on you have to dodge it." Pikachu attempted to move but again the blue sparks appear around Pikachu. The thundershock hit its target shocking both Pikachu and Pichu. The box the opened and exploded knocking Pikachu to a tree nearby. Pikachu fell to the ground unable to move while Pichu was breathing deeply.

"Pichu you did it!" Kenny said smiling and jumping up and down frantically. Pichu smiled and then fell back on the ground falling asleep exhausted from that battle. The other trainer walked over picking up Pikachu and then returning it to its pokeball.

"That was a nice battle kid." The trainer said walking to Kenny.

"Thank you." Kenny said picking up Pichu and placing her on his head.

"Wow could not believe that your Pichu knew present."

"I did not know what moves she knew cause I just got it like an hour ago."

"Well you did good for you first battle. By the way my name is Dustin."

"My name is Kenneth but you can call me Kenny."

"I was here looking for a Rattata that has been beating a lot of trainers and then running off. Maybe I am not ready for it since I couldn't even beat trainer just starting out." Kenny just smiled and looked up into the sky. "Well I guess I will head back out looking for the rattata again."

"See ya man." Kenny said as he watched Dustin walk further into the forest.
Kenny laid back thinking he would wait for Pichu to wake up to continue on fearing wild pokemon will attack him.

Route 302 didn't look too bad, Bryce thought as he stepped out into the route leading to the next town. Maybe I could catch another Pokémon to go with Mankey. That would be good. He looked around. There were wild Pokémon everywhere. There were Ratatta and Bidoof everywhere. Bryce decided they were too common. Every now and then, a Yanma would fly by. There was also a Natu, but alas, only one. He decided that he wanted this rare Pokémon.

A Natu walked by, preening its feathers.. The green and red Pokémon looked happy as it groomed itself. Bryce had seen a Natu before. His father had told him that Natu could grow into a power Pokémon when they are trained enough. I have to have it. He decided to get close (very close) but not too close to frighten the Natu. He had learned that when approaching a Pokémon, it was a good idea to have a berry in hand as if to feed it. He found an Oran berry on a nearby tree and approached the Natu.

He dropped the berry and as the Natu ate, Bryce looked up its information on the Pokedex. The big machine rumbled and grumbled as if it were about to explode. Then, a piece of paper printed from the feed. It read: "Natu, the tiny bird Pokémon. Natu moves around by hopping and always seems to be staring at something.

Bryce grabbed Mankey's Pokeball and threw it into battle position. "Mankey, let's captured this thing! Use scratch!" He yelled with confidence. Mankey used Scratch on the Natu. It lie there almost unconscious at first, and then Bryce tossed the Pokeball…

Instantly, the Pokeball was knocked back.

"Hey, you! What are you doing to my Pokémon!?" A girl ran from behind the bushes. "I could report you! You were trying to steal my Pokémon!"

"Ummm, no I wasn't! I thought it was wild!"

"As if!" The little girl said in disbelief. "I don't believe you one bit. You look like someone who would go around stealing Pokémon!"

"I wasn't trying to steal your Pokémon! I swear!" Bryce was getting kind of worried. This was his first Pokémon encounter and it turned out to be a trained Pokémon!

"I tell you what," the girl said. "If you battle me, I'll let you slide this time."

"Fine," Bryce said. He had been itching to test out Mankey's power. "Mankey, get ready!"

"Natu, here." The girl gave Natu an Oran berry to help rejuvenate it. "Now, you have to let me go first because you tried to steal my Pokémon."

"But I, fine." Bryce gave up. He couldn't convince the girl that he was stealing but who cared.

The little girl issued the first order. "Natu, use Peck."

"Mankey, dodge!"

Natu charged at Mankey at full speed. Mankey attempted to dodge the attack, but failed.

"Now, Natu," ordered the girl, "use Night Shade!" What seemed to be an endless darkness surrounded Mankey. He then fell to the ground. When Mankey got up, he was in a fury. It was as if a vein would burst in the Pokémon's furry little head/body.

"Mankey, use Scratch." Mankey furiously charged at the Natu and scratched it. Natu fell back, screaming in pain. "Now, Mankey, use another Scratch attack!" Mankey continuously scratched at the little bird Pokémon. When Mankey let up, Natu looked at if it were about to give up.

"Natu, use peck now!" Natu once again charged full speed at the Mankey and pecked him. Mankey fell to the ground lie down motionless as if in a daze.

"Mankey, get up!" He yelled at no prevail. "We have to win this. We can't lose to a weak Pokémon like that."

The girl looked at Bryce.

"I don't think you should be stealing Pokémon. You couldn't even defeat my Natu. Catch Pokémon the old-fashioned way." She smirked as she said this.

"I wasn't stealing!" Bryce was starting to get annoyed. He ran over to Mankey again. What was he going to do? Mankey was his only Pokémon and it had been fainted in its first battle. At least, they all thought it was.

Mankey weakly got up and faced the Natu.

"Man-key." It struggled to say its name in a proud manner.

"Oh, so you want more." The girl immediately issued an order. "Natu, let's finish this thing off for good this time. Use peck!" The Natu began charging at Bryce's Mankey as it had done before. But Mankey just stood there and glared at the Pokémon. Despite Bryce's orders and the girl's insults, Mankey just stared at the Natu, until finally, the Natu stopped dead in its tracks. What attack was this, Bryce thought. He checked his Pokedex. It rumbled and grumbled and printed out a slip of paper that said: "Leer. An attack that lowers Defense." So Mankey knew Leer. This would make things easier.

"Mankey," Bryce ordered. "Use Leer one more time." Mankey glared at the Pokémon, causing it to flinch again. "Now, use Scratch!" With one scratch, the Pokémon had fainted. "Mankey, you did it!" Bryce was actually surprised. He had thought it was all over.

The girl grudgingly handed Bryce some money and a couple of Oran berries. "Here," she said. "You won. I'm sorry I accused you of stealing, but you lucked out." She walked away and waved goodbye as she left.

Bryce was relieved. He thought he had lost. He looked at the exhausted Mankey that stood before him. The one has lots of potential, he thought. I have to bring that out in him.

"Mankey!" He called the Pokémon. "From now on, I want you to walk on your own. That way, you can get stronger as we travel. Also, I want you to practice each and every time you can. We came too close to losing that battle." Mankey nodded his head to say that he understood. Then, the two continued down the route.
