Like altarialover said, I think May has learnt her lesson in the Rubello contest.

I think that May has maybe started to comprehend the fact that she need not be overconfident and should strengthen her bonds with her pokemon. Aside from that, she is an extremely potent co-ordinator!

One of her previous downfalls is quite obvious, trusting Harley. I feel sorry for May having to have had that guy trying to ruin her chances.

Harley is one of May's, sort of, rivals. He hates May, therefore I hate him. May trusted him at first and he told lies to try and ruin her performances. One example is he told her that Surskit was a slow pokemon (her next match was agains a dude with one). Obviously, she went into the battle an soon found out that Surskit was really fast. So she had a bad start.

Wow that is bad I haven't watched those episode s yet but Harley as I already know him is determined to stop May from winning any contest!! But yea May has learnt her lesson about showing off her ribbons and going over confident!!
