THE OFFICIAL NUZLOCKE CHALLENGE THREAD

Sign me up for a Nuzlocke run on SoulSilver. I started last night so I'll give you guys a run-through of what I've done so far.

I started the game by picking my favorite Johto starter, Cyndaquil, and named him Flynn. After completing the intro stuff and beating my rival, who I named Silver, we caught the first member of our team, Mia the Hoothoot, on Route 29. We then caught a Rattata on Route 46, named Verona, but I ended up boxing her, just in case. We then made our way to Violet City without much trouble but I made my first mistake of the run by accidentally running away from a Geodude in the Dark Cave outside of Violet City. After arriving in Violet City, my team and I climbed the Sprout Tower, where we obtained Dani, the Gastly, and beat the Elder with ease. Then, we traveled to Route 32 where I hoped to find a Mareep but instead we got a Bellsprout named Bella.

Right now, I'm grinding my team to level 14 before taking on Falkner. I'll probably box Bella beforehand but I want to level her up more before then so maybe later I'll take her out again.

EDIT: Grinded my entire team to level 14, which meant that Flynn evolved into a Quilava. After boxing Bella, we took on Falkner and beat him easily. Then, we obtained the Egg from the PokeMart and put it in my party, hoping that it'll hatch into a good Togepi for me to use later. Now, we are finishing Route 32 and are about to enter Union Cave to head to Azalea Town.

EDIT II: We are now in Azalea Town and we just beat Team Rocket at the Slowpoke Well. I also caught a few new additions to the team and the Egg finally hatched into a Togepi. My plan before going to sleep tonight is to grind my team up to a good level to take on Bugsy and then maybe my rival but we'll see about that.

yep I broke a rule, I caught a zigzagoon on Route 101, even though you obtain the Starter there. My bad, do I have to Start over or use my other zigzagoon from Route 102 or just keep going since I do have another zigzagoon anyway?

It depends on how you interpret it - strictly speaking you get your starter back in Littleroot Town when Prof. Birch gives you it officially, so you should be ok to use it. Otherwise you'd have to release it and use one of the other ones.

It depends on how you interpret it - strictly speaking you get your starter back in Littleroot Town when Prof. Birch gives you it officially, so you should be ok to use it. Otherwise you'd have to release it and use one of the other ones.

Well I'll interperet it the way you did, officialy getting it in Littleroot town, just to save some time.

Also, does Sprout Tower count as a different area or does it count of Violet City? I'm not doing a Nuzlocke or anything, but I'm interested.

Sprout Tower should count as a completely different area, I would be very surprised if it didn't.

Tried to catch yet another zigzagoon, got a critical hit, killed it. But meh, I don't need another one anyway

It's definitely a different area. I count it as a different area if a text box appears telling me I've changed area - when you move from Violet City into Sprout Tower, a text box appears saying "Sprout Tower". That's how I determine what counts as an area.

Okay then, update number three!

gameplay (turning into a sarcastic story now)

Two things happened in granite cave. Two deep, important, things. (duuun duuuun duuuuuun) Okay, I'm joking, nothing happened in granite cave.
I had to teach Rodeo flash, so I aced it up to the top floor, grinding my mons a bit.
I went to the final room, where I found a young man who has grey hair. I hope its dyed. And what the heck is he doing standing still in a random room in the middle of a cave? Didn't the guys who made realise that thats a little odd?
I talked to him (pokemon, the place were talking to random strangers in caves is a brilliant thing for ten year olds to do) so he took my letter and cave me candy (aka another tm which I can't use. I haven't beem able to use a single one so far. Just my luck)

Now that I had finished being a postman, I sailed away to slateport. I had grinded my team a bit, so I avoided the trainers, good for leveling up my next team member. I ran through slateport, ignoring team aqua, and running to the nearst patch of grass. Hell yes. It was a electrike. A female electrike (all my team are guys, minus Hypothermo, but gyarados' don't really count), who I caught right away. I nicknamed her Rumble, she had a calm nature.

I waltzed back to granite cave to grind her. I had gained her a couple of levels (lv 16), so I stopped using the send-out-and-switch method. I bumped into a level 10 makuhita. I got a little nervous, arm thrust you see, but thats been less dangerous than I thought, so I battled it anyway. So after arm thrust hit me five times, two of those being critical hits, I had another corpse on my hands. D: *sniff*

I went back to slateport and whipped team aqua, then there leader, who I'm pretty sure is a covert one piece cosplayer, went up to me and told me how great oceans are, and that he thinks he needs to expand it. I was very tempted to tell him that 70% of the world is ocean, and we're getting more anyway coz of global warming or whatevers going on, we don't need a group of pirate cosplayers to make it worse. I swear team magma's so much cooler. At least they dont cosplay (no, I don't have anything against cosplayers, its just fun. Like the rest of this.)

I decieded to grind my team a little bit, and went down route 110, before being jumped by my rival. Teshiz OKO'ed his lombre, and I then swapped to Tasmond, who gave the same pleasures to his marshtomp and numel. After some leveling up, I went to the proud city of Mauville. After healing up and getting the acro bike, I went to the gym and OKO'ed Wally's ralts (how did he train it anyway? It didn't know any attacks when he got it!). I snuck down route 117, so naturally all the trainers saw me. The mon I got here was a female oddish, which I nicknamed Loco, and happily put in the daycare with my Makuhita, Quaker.

I grinded my team up to level 26, and attempted to take on the gym. As soon as I got to Wattson, who I personally find the hardest gym leader without marshtomp, I got cold feet and grinded my team up to level 28. I pitted Tasmond against him, who had evolved into a fine breloom, easily rivaling Hypothermo for the best mon in the party. I hit his voltorb with mach punch twice, before megadraining the life out of his electrike, and I swapped to Teshiz to ember his magneton. It fell, but not before it had paralyzed him, so I felt pressured to swap back to Tasmond. That was a good call though, and after a couple of mach punch's the bolt (I think) badge was mine!

I went back to the daycare and took out Quaker, who had went from level 9 to level 21, and taught him rock smash. I snuck through route 111, and got into route 112, catching a numel and putting him in the daycare with Loco. The first mon I battled in Fiery Path though wasn't a koffing I was hoping for, but another numel, so I promptly gave up on getting another non HM-slave team mate anytime soon.
I wiped the trainers on the route, proceeding to route 113 where I bumped into a spinda, deathe glared at it, killed it, and went on, doing some grinding on the way.

I healed at fallabour town, there really wasn't anything much I could do there, and went to the next route, leaving trainers un battled, for the very unlikely chance that I bumped into a seviper on the next route. Unfortunatly for me though, my route 114 mon was a lotad, who I killed with glee. I went to meteor falls, adding a zubat to my box on the way, and bumped into team magma.

I honestly think, design wise anyway, team magma and aqua are the coolest villians in the pokemon world. Sure, I'm not denying that team aqua are a horde of crazy cosplayers, but really, a bandana and cool trackies defeat fluoro blue bowl cuts and berets anyday. Besides, team magma tries blowing up a freakin' volcano with rocket fuel. Thats compleatly insane, but way more hardcore than taking over a radio tower, being a stroppy emo who gets pwned by a giratina, or...

BLACKWHITESPOILERSALERT!! Actually, thats not as cool as commanding a legendary dragon, getting crowned and summoning a freaking castle. But thats just N, not all of team plasma

So back to the plot, and away from my sarcastic demi-fangirling: Team magma had just stolen a metorite from a nerd, and team aqua rolled up in the Going Merry and started acting all righteous and badass. Team magma just laughed at them and teased them for being pirate cosplayers, and showed off their pimped-out hoodies. Team aqua drew out their swords, so team magma bolted to a volcano, because it is way more of a dramatic place to have dangerous sword fights.
Damn, I so wish that was canon.

I deceided my mons weren't high leveled enough to survive a dramatic sword fight, so I grinded them up to level 32, and went up to the peaks of mount chimney.

The teams were engaged in a variety of epic sword fights (naturally team aqua had cutlasses while team magma had more modern knifes), Archie taking on three on one because he's the leader, and leaders have the magical ability only to be slain by major characters. I talked to him, because people never attack one another when their talking to someone else, and he told me the team magma leader's going to use powers of a magical meteorite to blow up the volcano. I bet the laws of physics wanted to kill him now.

I defeated some magma grunts in the way of me telling the leader the rules of physic are about to murder him, but when I got to him though the laws of physics had died by being broken so badly. He decided not the have a sword fight with me, and sicked some random 'mons on me insted. After compleatly wiping them out the laws of physics had a fusion dance and told him that no matter what he does to a random meteorite they don't emitted random radiation or whatever that makes volcano's explode, and he gave up and walked away.

Aka, what really happened was team aqua got stroppy at team magma for trying to blow up a volcano, they went to the volcano and attacked each other with poochyena's, and I wiped the team magma leader's butt.

After that was done, I went down the volcano to jagged pass, avoiding the trainers and catching a spoink to add to the box. I realised something quite bad though, only one of my team mates has a chance in the whole bloody gym. Yay. More grinding.
I've now grinded my four-man-band up to level 36 (Teshiz evolved, wewt!), and I'm heading off to whip some @$$!

It doesn't really matter, as long as you never use it agian for the duration of the challenge.

I don't encourage in-game trades, but it's up to the challenger. As for catching another pokemon, the answer is NO. Not only did you just get a powerful rock type with an exp boost, and now you want to catch another pokemon in place of the one you traded? Not much of a CHALLENGE if you ask me.

After grinding my team up to level 18, we took on Bugsy and the Azalea Gym. Flynn easily dispatched Bugsy and his team with no problems. However, when we ran into Silver, I almost lost Callen to a critical hit from his Croconaw but he survived with a little HP left. Once we beat Silver, we headed into the Ilex Forest and I taught Verona Cut, along with Headbutt and Rock Smash. We made it out of the Ilex and headed to Goldenrod City, all the while beating trainers and getting the Day Care numbers. Also, we added two new members to the team with Mia the Drowzee and Olivia the Kakuna. I have to stop here 'cause I need to go to work soon but my plan is to be finished in Goldenrod City by tonight or tomorrow morning at the latest.

Nearly lost my Blaze (Charmeleon) in celurean against my rival water.survived just beat misty with a level 17 Synthesis (Oddish) running out of metal claws. Anyone know where a nearby ether or elixer is after underground?
