I got my first shiny in Emerald. I was in New Mauville and was getting annoyed that the pokeballs on the floor kept being voltorb even though voltorbs are about a foot high and pokeballs are only about 10cm. When I found the fourth one I was sooo cross until I saw it was blue! It had a naughty nature and was lvl 25.
I've been using a Japanese Ditto for all my breeding since I first started breeding Pokémon on Diamond, but I'm just now sitting down and specifically trying to breed a shiny. This is going to take a while, isn't it? :/

I have yet to breed a shiny, and the one I've ever caught was a Nosepass. In my Heart Gold game, I saw a shiny Hoothoot before I was able to get pokeballs ... so I'm still a little bitter about that.
I'm sure in some of my older gameboy cartradiges I have had a few shinies. Looking at the sprites, I remember having a couple, but I just can't remember since I haven't played in so long and I don't have them anymore.
My first shiny was Charmander (well besides the Pichu event from gamestop.) on pearl because someone had created (hacked) me a Charmander so I could play with it on my own. Just because breeding one was taking way too long. ^^; But, my first legit shiny I just got while breeding Japanese Ditto with Growlithe, and I am ever so pleased! Took over 30+ eggs, which isn't so bad since I've seen some people breed over 60 eggs with no shinies.
I don't have any on HG yet since I'm still fairly early in the game, and chaining pokémon on Pearl is so hard for me. Highest chain yet is 23. >.> No shinies yet from chains.
I have the best shiny ever... No exceptions, it's a shiny gold geodude I got it on pearl randomly before battling roark xP it looks like a little rock of gold with arms and a face :D I also accidently pressed run instead of bag when I found a shiny green pelipper near stark mountain (the water part) such a shame, I guess it had about 5-10HP left xD oh and btw, what do you mean when you say "chaining"?
Today I have learned that I am absolutely terrible at chaining. The longest chain I've ever been able to maintain was 20, and that was before I even knew what the PokéRadar was actually for...
I just started hunting for shinys a 3 days ago and i already have 5 shinys
Makuhita - first ever shiny!! chain of 25 =]
Farfetch'd - first random shiny!! chain of 5 in non-shiny patch
Phanpy - chain of 26 O.o almost like Makuhita
Phanpy #2 - different chain after my first broke at 36 >.< but also under 30 at 28 xD (now its a donphan Addy natured Ev trained in atk/def)
shinx - Caught while Ev training my phanpy for atk at a chain of 1! i could'nt believe it
Krabby - First chain to get to 40+ caught at chain 42 after resetting for like 30 mins putting ds on sleep going to a restaurant getting a pizza eating it then resetting 4 time then bam!
Krabby #2 - about 10 mins after first krabby same chain at 43 (then i was ganna see how long i can make the chain but forgot what kind of grass i was going into and broke it xD)
all these in 3 days!! and all but 2 under chain 30 :P im so lucky but my luck ended when i broke a zubat chain at 39 >.< crobat is one of my favorite shinys Crying face.
i have all the vids on my cell but i cant put em on my computer no cord =[.
my friend traded my brother a shiny zubat and he traded it to me at lvl 15. its now a lvl 49 crobat! yay! also i cant chain! my highest was 7 and then i gave up any tips?
