Sorry for not replying I went on holidays for a few days, will start with zubat soon. To tell the truth I have never gotten a pokemon to level 100 so this will be interesting

For Crystal, It's hard to know what to give you, because Mareep's not available, and Pikachu would be hard to get. Try Magnemite.
 
Started with Zubat, named myself Draco and chose bulbasaur. Beating brock I caught Izzy the Zubat. Proceed the grinding on all the trainers I skipped. zubat has reall horrible moves at the start, Astonish and Leech Life. Only at level 11 because I got so frustrated

Another Update
Izzy finally got bite, and now the ball is rolling. Got through Mt Moon and reached Cerulean, after the fight ith Gary Izzy evolved. Continued on to save Bill. Beat Misty with 3 bites. Went to Vermillion and got cut on SS Anne. Beat Lt Surge easy. Heading to Mt Moon
