Leon was glad that he was finally on the road. He hadn't been walking for too long now, and figured it would take him a while to reach the next town. So far, he'd seen quite a bit of grass and trees, but despite all of the shade it was rather humid. Leon found this a bit annoying at first, mostly because he had his jacket on, but then (after making sure no one was around) he shrugged it off and stuffed it away in his backpack. He felt a bit better now, but his jeans were starting to cling to his thighs like a second skin, and that was a bit annoying. Leon sighed and shook his head, but didn't stop for any sort of a break.
It wasn't long until he began to notice a small pool of sweat around the rim of his shirt. That was a bit nasty, but there wasn't a whole lot he could do about it. Leon sighed and ran a hand through his hair, and then looked around for some sort of water. He couldn't find any, so eventually Leon pressed on, being firm with himself and not taking a bunch of breaks. If he couldn't see water now, he doubted that he would magically stumble upon a nice and cool stream anytime soon. Plus, he wasn't sure if he would've wanted to stop anyway. Leon didn't want to waste time cooling himself off and taking a break. Well, unless he was about to get heatstroke or something. Then that was a completely different story.
About a quarter of the way through the route, Leon happened upon another person. He stopped in his tracks, debating on putting on his jacket, but it was a bit too late. The girl had noticed him, and she was approaching him with a somewhat determined look on her face. Leon's eyebrow arched and he found his hand drifting to Larvitar's Pokeball. That's an odd first reaction. Though I guess it might not be anymore, considering I'm out on a journey now, Leon mused briefly.
"You there!" the girl declared, pointing at Leon in a bit of a dramatic fashion.
Leon glanced around, then pointed to himself. "Me?"
"No duh Sherlock! Who else do you think I was talking to?" She didn't wait for him to answer, but Leon didn't figure she would. "Anyway, that's beside the point. I have this Pokemon, you see. She's a Cleffa, and she hatched pretty recently from an egg."
Leon nodded slowly. Yeah, Pokemon hatched from eggs. So what? He wasn't exactly sure what she wanted.
"Ugh! Stupid boys," the girl grumbled under her breath. She shook her head. "Anyway, I want you to battle me. I mean, you do have a Pokemon right? I'll bet you do! So bring it on! Cleffa will easily beat you. She's been getting stronger, and with my amazing magician-like skills we'll team up and beat you and...uhm...?"
"Larvitar."
"Yeah! We'll beat you and your Larvitar!"
Leon had to admit, she was sort of good at the whole drama thing. He offered her a tiny smirk of amusement. "I'll accept your challenge for a battle."
"Awesome!" the girl chirped. "I'm Sherry, by the way." She jogged a bit down the road, providing Larvitar and Cleffa with room to battle.
Leon nodded slightly as he grabbed Larvitar's Pokeball. "Leon," he said, just loud enough for her to hear. Sherry smirked at him and then grabbed a Pokeball (which Leon assumed to be Cleffa's) as well. "Ready to start?" Leon called across their makeshift field. Sherry grinned widely at him and nodded.
The two Pokemon appeared in brilliant bursts of white light. Cleffa danced around a bit, and Leon wondered vaguely if the Pokemon would put up any sort of a good fight. It was, after all, just an oddly shaped pink thing. Larvitar stood looking ready and determined, and Leon felt rather proud of his Pokemon. He was glad that the Cleffa wasn't his Pokemon, because in all truth he thought he would've been a bit embarrassed about having it. It didn't seem like much of a battler, that was for sure.
"Ladies first," Leon offered, trying to be polite.
Sherry, however, scoffed at his offer. "You go first."
Leon, deciding not to waste an opportunity to have a slight advantage, did just that. "Larvitar, use sandstorm!" Leon called to his Pokemon.
Larvitar nodded sharply and then brought his small arms up and out. Suddenly the wind began to blow a bit harsher than normal, and the spare sediment and rock lying around got kicked up and blew across the field. Leon blocked his eyes with his arm, and squinted at the field so he wouldn't get anything in his eyes. He heard Sherry grumble a soft sound of annoyance, and then she was quiet. Leon squinted into the sandstorm, and moments later he heard something singing.
Suddenly there was a soft snoring sound from his side. Leon froze, and his eyes narrowed. Upon close inspection, he found that it was Larvitar. The Pokemon was lying down on its side and sleeping, blissfully unaware of the battle. Leon blinked several times, wondering what the heck had just happened, when he suddenly realized it. The singing he had heard was Cleffa, and of course it was successful. Larvitar was now completely and utterly out, and Leon wasn't exactly sure what he was going to do now. With his only Pokemon asleep for the count, there was no way he would be able to wake it up quick enough without major damage being done.
"Larvitar!" Leon snapped sharply, hoping that it would wake his Pokemon up. Larvitar snored softly in reply, obviously signaling that he hadn't heard. So for the moment, it seemed that the sandstorm was Leon's (and Larvitar's, for that matter) only hope.
"Nice one, Cleffa! Now attack with pound!" Sherry called, obviously happy that Larvitar was snoozing on the field.
Cleffa seemed rather pleased by it too. She hopped forward, and then slammed her body against Larvitar. Leon could've sworn that it was a body slam, but no. Cleffa, he figured, was probably just so small that the attack was like a pound. Leon had a fleeting wonder of what would happen should Cleffa actually attempt a body slam, but brushed that thought away. Now wasn't the time for thinking about things like that; it was the time for waking up Larvitar.
"Larvitar, wake up!" Leon shouted, much louder than he had the first time. Larvitar rolled over, and Leon cursed under his breath. The sandstorm continued to buffet Cleffa, but obviously that wasn't going to last forever, especially with Larvitar snoozing on the job. The only problem was Leon didn't know what Larvitar would respond to.
"Alright Cleffa, use another pound attack! We'll finish it up with a metronome and hope it's something flashy!" Sherry called, sounded a lot more excited than she had when Larvitar unleashed his sandstorm.
"Larvitar, wake the hell up!" Leon shouted again. He sort of wanted to just go out there and nudge his Pokemon awake, but he knew that wasn't exactly something that was allowed. "Come on, Larvitar!"
Cleffa charged in again, slamming into Larvitar with a harsh bit of force. Larvitar even got rolled away on the ground. Cleffa turned, but the sandstorm held back its attempt to advance closer. Instead, the Cleffa went right into her metronome attack. Leon clenched his teeth, thinking about his options. If he was lucky, then the attack would be something that Larvitar would be resistant to. If he wasn't, then it would be something that would KO Larvitar right then and there.
As Cleffa began to do her little finger thing, Leon glanced frantically back and forth between the two Pokemon. He saw Larvitar slowly began to awake, and Leon felt a bit of relief. He was waking up just in time. Cleffa's fingers began to glow, and Leon ordered a bite attack so fast his words got jumbled. He heard Sherry squeak in surprise, and was glad to see that Larvitar was charging at Cleffa at a moderately fast pace. Before the attack could be released (luckily for Larvitar and Leon), Larvitar's jaws clamped down on Cleffa, making the Pokemon cry out in pain. The glowing on her fingers stopped, and it appeared that the attack had been prevented as well.
"Darn it! Oh well, Cleffa just use sing again! Then we'll do a metronome and finish the job!" Sherry seemed very confident in her abilities to get this finished, and Leon didn't deny her the confidence. Metronome could do a lot of damage, if Cleffa and Sherry were lucky enough.
"Don't let it sing," Leon called to Larvitar. "Use a bite attack and if that doesn't do it, follow up with a leer and bite combination!" he shouted, feeling a bit more confident in his and Larvitar's abilities as well.
Larvitar snapped his jaws back down on Cleffa, causing the Pokemon to cry out. It wasn't a sing, but Leon figured that if he didn't do anything fast then it would get out and the tides would turn out of his favor. Larvitar did something that Leon was actually pretty proud of. The Pokemon leered from that close distance, hardly moving away even after the bite attack. Cleffa gave him her own little glare, but Larvitar smirked in reply. He snapped his jaws down on the Pokemon, and that was that. Leon was glad he had had Larvitar use sandstorm, because he knew that otherwise he would've had to keep it going.
"What?" Sherry said, looking at Cleffa with surprise. She heaved a heavy sigh. "Alright, you won. I suppose I'll need to train her more." She recalled Cleffa, and Leon recalled Larvitar. "You see," Sherry began again, "I was going to use this Moon Stone on her, but..." Sherry produced the beautiful rock from her pocket, and looked at it sadly. "I think I'll have to wait. And you beat me, so here. I want you to have my Moon Stone, please."
Leon was unsure what to do. Sure, he wanted the Moon Stone. It was free and something pretty valuable. The only problem was that he didn't know what exactly he was going to do with it, and he didn't want to basically take it from her. "Are you sure?" he asked softly, eyeing the stone. She offered him a small grin and nodded.
They parted ways after a brief goodbye. Leon tucked the stone in his backpack, still wondering what he was going to do with it, and then continued on east towards the next town.
((OOC: Sorry if this was supposed to be like a second post instead of right away, but I didn't see anything against that and it was first come first serve, so XD))
