Emerald hack: The Pit v2 - Roguelite Style Hack

The new version is the perfect challenge!
Played on Gen5 normal mode, single and had a blast!
Gonna be really hard to win ngl!
Well met my rather dapper friend! Well met.

I have a small inquiry, if I may of course, hoping to not be a burden.

I am playing the lastest version of The Pit: v2.1.0, Gen 9, on Custom Mode, and I'm currently on Floor 55.

Credentials aside, I must report a small visual oddity that appears when editing my Pokémon IV's via the Merchant on the Pit Stop, (screenshot attached for clarity).

Additionally, I think the Pokedex and TM shop could use with some improvement, like, a single icon for the TM's (to save on that already tight memory space), and a small change from Teleport Pads to Stairs.

As an aside, I must also ask if there's plans to ever add a "Star Screen" (like the one i saw on Google Images when doing my research on The Pit).

And lastly, I come from the subreddit and I must say the Crossover with Emerald Seaglass seems to be a rather interesting prospect. I know there's nothing official and that post was a mere suggestion by a regular user, but I do encourage both dev teams to consider joining forces to create the ultimate ROM Hack of 2025! The stakes are at their peak, and I placed my trust in both projects already.

That said, I extend my utmost gratitude for your time and for creating this marvelous Hack alongside Archie (wish I could tag Him so he reads my thoughts and opinions).

Have a wonderful week!

I can't speak for either dev, but Seaglass dev is working on a new game as well as finishing their biology degree.

And smashing two good things together doesn't mean it will be a great thing.

Also, FYI, that thread was deleted by the mods of the subreddit within the hour it was posted, not many people saw it.

Thanks for this!
We're friends with nemo and it's a rather absurd idea for both of us.

But the hack is open source, so if anyone wants to change graphics they're free to do so themselves.

Understandable.

I too noticed the post was removed and that's probably for the better too, as to not provide false hopes for false projects.

Thinking about it now, with a cold head and grounded feet, it did sounded like an absurd idea, but that's just the cosequence of passion, it makes one overlook reality sometimes.

No matter, the point is we have this complete hack and we can enjoy it as it is.

But I do repeat myself and say there's that text bug in the IV Merchant Editing UI, I attached a picture above, the other pictures can be ignored.

Thanks for your time!

Agree there.

Got excited for the idea but thinking about it, carefully, it may not be as good as it sounds i'm afraid.

Oh well. Gotta wait for Lazarus to finish development, and wishing Nemo the best with their endeavors.

Hi, this looks amazing! Discord link doesn't work, is there another one that can be used?

Description:

This is a roguelite hack that is inspired by Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, in which the Pit of 100 Trials is an optional dungeon with 100 floors of battles. We have translated that concept into Pokemon with some twists.

In this challenge, you start with 3 random Pokemon and must fight through a random trainer gauntlet over 100 Floors. You and each trainer have random mons. There is a singles, doubles, and mixed mode as well as tons of other difficulty and challenge options. The Enemy trainer mon levels are tied to the floor number, with Lvl 1 being the minimum and Lvl 100 being the maximum. At the start of the challenge, there is only one trainer per floor, but as you progress, more of them will spawn (random number per floor, weighted to lower numbers), with a max of four per floor by the end of the Pit. After clearing each floor you will get one to three random item drops and then the next floor warp will activate letting you progress. Every 5th floor is a Heal/Shop floor where you will be able to rest and prepare for the next trial and on every 10 floors a Move Tutor NPC will appear. Every 25th floor, there is a random Boss battle with a harder trainer, if you defeat the boss you will be given an option to gain a party member.

If you do manage to beat the final trainer on Floor 100, you can choose to keep going and see how far you can get. That's all the info I've got. Hopefully, you have fun. If you're interested in discussing the hack make sure to join the Discord.

Hi! this looks like so much fun but... how do i download this? I went to the drive, downloaded it, tried to open it in mGBA and i get a pop up telling me "are you sure its in the right format" ... so i turned it to a zip file then unzipped it and neither that worked too T-T perhaps this issue is just because i am stupid but if anyone is willing to help me i will be very very grateful T-T

I am having the same issue. I THINK we're meant to apply the BPS to a base game of some kind, but I'm not sure what game nor how.

Edit: Figured it out. Just download the patch, use floating to apply the patch to base Emerald

Yup, go to the google drive link and download the folder or any of the .bps which are patch files meant to be used with emerald usa rom. There are software programs you can download to your phone or PC, or a number of online resources like https://www.marcrobledo.com/RomPatcher.js/

0/10 for making it only playable on paid mobile emulators
gg dont feel like paying for another one
started a run on PC then wanted to move that save to my phone and I cant
emerald rogue is better and not locked behind certain emulators anyway

First, you don't need a paid mobile emulator, there are multiple free emulators that are free and work with the hack. Like retroarch mGBA core which is the most accurate emulator for mobile and available on any platform.

Second, I didn't make it not playable on shitty emulators like MyBoy. I did nothing to make it break on crappy software. It runs completely fine on an actual real GBA, so the problem is not mine. It's on the GBA emulator that can't actually emulate what a GBA can play, it's one and only job.

Third, Emerald Rogue is literally known to have problems with the same exact emulators for the same exact reasons. You can try to play The Pit on Delta if you want, just don't report any bugs because it's not my fault when a bad emulator does something weird.

You need to check yourself before writing unbelievably stupid comments on peoples release threads.

Damn, that's a lot of fire, I don't disagree with you, but what makes myboy bad? I've used it without issues (not on this or emerald rogue however) I'm currently using MGBA for emerald rogue and plan on starting The Pitt after I get my new phone. Also discord link doesn't work for me

It breaks on things that run fine on an actual GBA, it's bad at the only thing it's supposed to do.

Shit is not complicated, people

The problem is not a matter of complexity, it's a matter of fact with the Hardware flaws and limitations.

Besides, there's always a variable people seem to forget, their device.

We can only but assume whether people are playing on a Potato or a Top-end Phone, alongside the emulator limitations themselves.

Bottom line is, if the developer (not some random guy on the internet but the actual developer) makes a software suggestion, maybe it's worth taking into consideration to avoid issues. They should know best, don't they?

That's basically what I was saying. Not complicated also implies figuring it out yourself either by trial and error or, shockingly enough, reading the documentation most devs provide. Crazy stuff

The move "Metal Strike" create bugs and can crash the game. I suggest to change the pokemon who can learn this capacity by "Iron Head" if it is too complicated to repair it.
I used this move because it is the strongest steel move for Katagami
(I'm on mGBA)

Hi, hope this is the right place to ask but I have been playing the ROM hack recently and can't seem to figure out how to activate mega evolutions. I am playing on mGBA as recommended and have the mega stones and correct pokemon but don't know how to activate it which is frustrating. Any help is appreciated!

It might be wise to double check your game settings to see if there's something that inadvertedly toggled off Mega Evos.

Also, make sure the Mega Evolution Icon is showing next to the Pokémon HP Bar, because once it shows you just have to press start then an attack for your pokémon to mega evolve.

Here's an example: Assuming my Garchomp is holding a Garchompite, on my turn I'd hit the "Start" button, then choose a random attack (like Earthquake), that would make Garchomp to mega evolve then use EQ.

I created this custom box art for The Pit Pokémon ROM hack and thought I would share it with everyone.

The following were used to create the custom box art:
I also created alternative box art for The Pit that I added under this post on Reddit:
EDITED (03/17/2025): Updated the box art image to remove 1 pixel lines on left and bottom from the original uploaded image and added a link to alternative The Pit box art on Reddit.

Hi any advice here. I seem to be completely stuck. I am on round 87. I don't even think I can 'quit' the run? Thank you in advance.
