    I'm definitely gonna get in on this - but i still have a question. can i evolve my acquired onix and machop into machamp and steelix through a trade? or is that against the rules?

    Did some grinding in the Elite 4, just to evolve Dragonair, and then beat Red. This took me some attempts, Espeon always crippled my team enough to let the rest get destroyed by Snorlax.

    Pikachu was always easy, even when it used Charm, Meganium still 2HKOd it with EQ. Next was always Venusaur, Fearow never had trouble with it (superior speed+Fly lols at Solarbeam without sun). Then Electabuzz 2HKOd Blastoise that most of the time set up rain in it's only turn. Then came Espeon, and it always caused me trouble. After numerous attempts I finally beat it with a combination of Meganium's Light Screen and paralysis from Body Slam, Vaporeon's Sand-Attack and iirc Dragonite finished it off with E-Speed after Meganium and Vappy had died. Against Snorlax, i first let Fearow lower it's accuracy with Mud Slap, then let Hitmontop use 1 or 2 Rock Smashs to lower its defense and then finish it off with a successful Triple Kick. His last Pokemon, Charizard, was a joke, Dragonite utterly destroyed it, even though it got burned by some attack.

    Light Screen really saved me against Red, without it Espeon would have at least 2HKOd everything. Not too useful overall, but also not too bad.

    More Exp was very cool, and nothing really liked getting Drillpecked. No core member, but still very useful.

    It got pretty decent later on. Still had the worst moves of all my Pokemon, but even against stronger opponents it couldn't kill, it was always good for support with Rock Smash so Dragonair/nite, Fearow or even Meganium could finish stuff off better.

    trading will be allowed. basically your allowed to have other pokemon, you just cant use em in battle unless its a pokemon you aquired from an in-game NPC. but if you evolve a pokemon from one then its still ok.

    I've been forgetting to update my progress on this, so this will be a big one
    -chose totodile as a starter, brought the egg to prof. elm
    -beat my rival in cherrygrove
    -went to violet, beat falkner, traded onix
    -got the egg back, hatched into togepi
    -went through union cave to azelea, rescued the slowpokes and beat bugsy
    -beat rival again
    -went through ilex forest to goldenrod, got odd egg which hatched into elekid
    -beat whitney, cleared away sudowoodo, traded for machop
    -got to ecruteak, beat rival for a 3rd time, beat morty, got eevee
    -went to olivine, then surfed to cianwood for the secretpotion
    -beat chuck, went back and beat jasmine
    -got to mahogony, cleared out the rockets, and beat pryce
    -went back to goldenrod and beat the rockets (and rival) again

    Feel like doing this again. This time I'll focus on in-game trades, so I'll start with Chikorita again, beating Bayleef or Croconaw with nothing but an Onix (maybe even a disobeying one) seems impossible to me.



    Update: Started. Got Onix. Beat Falkner, despite him having Mud Slap I managed it on the first try at level 8 or 9. Skipped Sprout Tower. Got to Azalea, Onix barely survived Union Cave with 1HP and a burn. Beat Team Rocket, beat Bugsy after numerous attempts, when Onix finally didn't disobey and decided to use Rock Throw on Scyther it was an OHKO. Beat Rival, went to Goldenrod, bought an Abra, traded it for Machop.

    Update: Leveled Machop a bit and beat Whitney. Easy. Did Sudowoodo stuff. Arrived at Ecruteak and went looking for a Magnemite with Metal Coat. It took eternally, but I caught one. Beat rival and Morty's first underling (Foresight =D), Machop evolved. Traded Onix@Metalcoat and Machoke to another savefile and back. Beat the rest of Morty's gym, quite easily. I was lucky that Gengar's Hypnosis missed against Machamp, though...

    - Caught Bellsprout but under rules traded it for Onyx in Violet City.

    Finished this on Crystal. Went relatively quickly and easily, though Bugsy was a nightmare with Chikorita as my starter.

    Umbreon saved me with Snorlax. I burned 8 Hyper Potions but finally wore the beast down.

    Rest of the fight was really straightforward, Blastoise luckily didn't OHKO Meganium with Blizzard, and it missed twice, allowing me to 3HKO with Giga Drain. Charizard destroyed Lapras, so Magmar saved the day with Thunderpunch.
