The Realm of Darkness

Name: Travis Jellum (sometimes referred to as TJ)
Gender: Male, clearly.
Age: 16
Appearance: Travis has a very muscular body, but he hasn't got much height, standing at around five foot eight or nine, on a good (or tall) day. His hair is dark brown and kept buzzed-short usually, though it can be seen almost down to his ears if he's especially lazy for that month. If he can find a willing and artsy friend to do so, one can often see intricate designs shaved into his buzzed hair, on the back of his head. His eyes are a very dark navy which can easily be mistaken as brown from a distance, and are shaped roundly and large. Above them are a pair of dark and thick eyebrows which are still clean around the edges. Trav has tan skin all year round, giving him a bit of a tropical look. In his left ear lobe sits a diamond stud that shines in the spotlight which Trav always thinks he's bathing in. On top of his head he sometimes wears his white baseball cap, adjusting it backwards, sideways...just never straight. Tight polos of the baby blue, lime green, hot pink, etc variety make up the wardrobe for his tops, and khaki shorts and faded and ripped jeans make up the bottom portion. Travis also has a pair of white-rimmed sunglasses to complete his attire, which he always wears in battle.
Personality: This teen is perfect...or so he thinks. Trav thinks very highly of himself- who am I kidding, he's exceedingly self absorbed and cocky. His big ego is his crown, and he wears it proudly. His superficial judgements of others determine whether they're worthy of his association- beautiful people are preferred, obviously. This attitude causes him to be critical and just plainly a dick to people, even to his friends mildly, but he's not entirely heartless, though he always has to be the center of attention. Let's just say this kid enjoys a thrill- he craves a good time and is always ready to party and for a wild time. His personal motto is that life's a party, and it just gets better with every rule you break. The exhiliration of defying the adult's rules that he chases does demonstrate Travis's unadulterated fearlessness and bravery, but also his recklessness and lack of responsibility and attention for consequences. He enjoys the authority that Pokemon battling brings and expects respect and sucess automatically, though surprisingly this system worked fairly well for him previously.
History: Travis Jellum hails from Kanto, the most sucessful region in his eyes. Due to his vociferous rebellion, Trav was always fighting with his parents, who had high hopes and expectations for their only son. Long story short, he was kicked out of the house at age 15 with only his Pokeballs and backpack...which happened to be loaded with a hefty wad of cash that the kid had won from contests and battles (and maybe some that he sneaked from his parents). He still holds a grudge against them- how could anyone abandon something so perfect?! But it still concerned him very little- Travis was living the high life as he traveled around Kanto, partying and recieving acclaim as he quickly shot to the top of the ranks in the region's league. Eventually he placed runner-up in the Kanto League. In this epic battle, it seems mostly only the females in the arena were rooting for him. Since his reputation as a party boy had gotten out, not many guys supported him, but the ladies are more important anyway. Afterwards, Trav managed to defeat 1 of the 2 Elite Four members that he met, a great feat for such a young trainer.
With such success in Kanto, Trav traveled to its neighbor, Johto and easily racked up all eight badges. Not long after his eighth badge did he decide to travel to Vassa- Johto was boring and pathetic, and Vassa was new and mysterious. Though they do still care about him, Trav failed to report this new trip to his parents. Serves them right. He traveled by air- by jet, to be exact- to the very extreme region. Trav has very high expectations for himself in the Vassa League.

MichaelaTheUchiha: M'kay, looks much better to me =) Accepted.
Cooker: Yes, you would get one. The plot says that you're starting over with this new region =) So if you fix that, then it'll be fine to me. Pending.
Lilliana: Sorry, but your reservation time is up. If you want, I might add an extra slot if you can get your SU up before we start.

OOC: So starting over as in you can't have any Pokes with you to begin with? Ok then I'll start with Mudkip! =D

Cooker: Alrighty, thanks for fixing that. Accepted.
Feign: I'll be nice and add an extra spot. Just go ahead and post your SU in the OOC thread, because I'll be posting the first chapter shortly. If you're accepted, I'll add your information to this first post =)

Chapter 1: Amber Town

It's time to begin. You will all be arriving to Professor Cormier's laboratory at various points of the day. He will be expecting you, and will make sure to give you all of the bare essentials before you all head out on your journey. Anyway, it's time to get to the bare geography of this wonderful town.

Seeing as, like the rest of the towns, Amber Town was pretty recently built, everything looks new and shiny. Streets are smooth and paved cleanly. Fences are painted and not chipped in the slightest. The houses and little shops around town look almost freshly painted and new. However, the thing that you will be focusing on is the main feature of the town - Professor Cormier's lab. The lab, situated on a nice little hill on several acres of land, has several stories to it. It's made from white brick, and white fences head out all along the property. Various Pokemon may be seen inside these fences, though it is generally not advised to disturb them. In any case, it's time for you to knock on the door to get a move on.

Once you've been invited inside, you take in Professor Cormier's appearance. He's been known as a young man, but for some reason he looks haggard and tired. His lab coat looks all wrinkled and rather unprofessional, and there's a coffee stain down the front. Some of you may question this, though it might not be a good idea to ask. Professor Cormier is often known for his acerbity when asked questions too personal. Anyway, once you've gotten past his appearance, he'll lead you off to the back room to get your Pokemon. You get to pick. Choose wisely.

Basically, this is your bread and butter boring post. I'll admit it, there's not much to do for this first post. Don't fret though, things'll get rolling pretty fast once you've got your first Pokemon.

(OOC; First person for the win. :P)

I whistled as I entered the Pokemon Room. It wasn't the greatest room in the world, the walls the same boring white color, machinery all around, and even a table or two. But what made this room so great was that all the Pokemon that were reserved for trainers were outside of their Poke'balls.

Pokemon were running all over the place. They all came in many different shapes, sizes, and types. Some of them I have never seen before, some that I was very familiar with, and others that I was vaguely familiar with. One of them caught my eye though, it was a balloon like Pokemon. It had two string like arms, a yellow "x" for a mouth, and teddy bear like eyes. It kept floating over to me, circling me.

"Can I have that one?" I asked pointing to the balloon like Pokemon that was circling me. I think its name was Drifloon, but since it wasn't native to Johto or Hoenn, I wasn't really too sure.

Name: Keara Wilson
Gender: Female
Age: 13
Appearance: Keara has fair pale skin which contrasts with her dark green hair and nearly black eyes. The bridge of her nose is covered in natural freckles, and she can no longer see due to an accident a few months before the journey started. Her hair is short and curly going only down to her chin, and she wears a purple tank top along with a white jacket, jeans and purple tennis shoes, carrying a black backpack with her at all times.
Personality: Keara is cautious around people. Before she lost her hearing she was very trusting of people having the ability to tell if a person is good or bad just by hearing their voice and now is unsure. She's the type of person who doesn't like accepting help and is afraid of not being accepted just because she can't hear.
History: Keara Wilson lived an easy life growing up in Amber Town in the Vassa region. Her father worked at a successful family owned bakery and her mother was one of the towns doctors. She was the leader of a small group of kids that hung out in the park playing Pokemon battle after school each day. On her thirteenth birthday her parents surprised her by driving up to
Carnelian city for the day, but on the way home they got into a car crash which killed her parents immediately and left her deaf. When the alliance asked her if she'd like to go on a Pokemon journey and catch wild Pokemon she accepted readily using this as a way to get her mind off things.

The journey begins...

-----

I looked around as I stepped through the door of Proffesor Cormier's lab. It was just like any other lab, but it looked a little newer. There were a few pokemon around the outside of teh lab. As I looked at Professor Cormier, I knew he had had a rough day. He looked tired and had a coffee stain on his shirt. I decided not to ask why he looked like this, and let him hand me a pokeball. He also handed me very few other supplies. I let the pokemon out of the pokeball, Zorua. A rare dark-type pokemon with its exclusive Illusion ability. "Zor!" It barked excitedly. I leaned down to him and pet him on the head.

Miharu walked into the lab, seeing both the Professor, who looked very tired and stressed, and a younger boy with a Zorua. She blinked as she recognized the trainer, even from the back. It was Kris, the boy that she had beaten in the finals of the Sinnoh League. The professor noticed her, and gave her a pokeball. "You must be Miharu Mizushima, I recognized you battling Cynthia. It was popular in practically every region. Sorry for your loss though."

Miharu shrugged, taking the pokeball, letting out a Sneasel. "It was fine. Cynthia is a very good opponent. I do hope to face her again one day." Miharu smiled politely at Sneasel, kneeling down to face her eye level. She could tell the Sneasel was a female, due to the fact that her red feather was quite short. Miharu glanced up at Kris. "I did not know that Kris was coming to this region."

Alright, quite franky, all of your posts are really short. Yes, they meet PC standards of a simple paragraph, but this is a chapter RP. I'm sorry if I didn't make that clear enough. Please try to make all of your posts at least 400 words from now on. 100-200 word posts just doesn't cut it for me.

First Snow: Congratulations, you received your Pokemon, 5 Pokeballs, a Pokedex, and a map.
Nakuzami: Congratulations, you received your Pokemon, 5 Pokeballs, a Pokedex, and a map.
MichaelaTheUchiha: Congratulations, you received your Pokemon, 5 Pokeballs, a Pokedex, and a map.
Liliana: Good enough. Accepted. I'll add your information to the first post.
Feign: Posted in the OOC like I asked, thank you for that. Wonderful SU. Accepted. You will be added to the post as well.

Keara woke up later than she intended on the morning she was to get a Pokemon and start her journey. "Why did i wake up so late?" She thought to herself quickly changing out of her pajamas and getting dressed in her normal outfit. "Oh yeah, I can't hear my alarm any more and there's no one here to wake me up" she thought bitterly slipping on her jacket and shoes quickly before grabbing her pack and running out of the empty house.

As she ran towards the hill where the white brick lab stood she took in the smooth streets and shiny appearance of the new town. When she reached the hill she sprinted up it running into the lab. Once inside she saw three other kids. A boy with a drifloon, a boy with a Zorua, and a girl with a Sneasel. The Professor looked tired like he hadn't slept for awhile. His lab coat wrinkled and a coffee stain on his shirt. When he spotted her he walked over to her a Poke-ball in his hand. "Keara Wilson i presume. I heard about the accident and I'm sorry for your loss" he said to her as she silently thanked the fact that years before the accident she learned how to read lips.

"Thank you Professor... If i may ask what's got you so stressed?" She said letting herself smile for the first time since her birthday when she let the small Abra out of it's Poke-ball.

Almost perfect, all she needed was the finishing touch. With utmost concentration and a tongue peeking out from the corner of her mouth Daphne slowly and meticulously placed the headband on her head. Aaaand, perfect! She fluffed her hair up a little, played with her bangs, making sure they were all perfectly straight, and applied one last layer of mascara to her eyes. She blinked a few times, making sure absolutely every eyelash was perfectly black (and not the invisible blonde fluffs they usually were) before carefully stashing her make-up bag and straightener into her travelling purse. She was set to go!

She stormed down the stairs of their small barely-two-story house to find Jo and Georgio in the kitchen/dining room/living room, the latter happily chomping on a peanut butter/jelly sandwich. "Hey Georgie," she ruffled his dark hair (She'd gotten most of her mother's genes while Georgio had the spitting image of the Greek side of her family) and grabbed two pieces of toast just as they got launched from the toaster.

"And hello to you too Daphne," her mother said sternly, but with a smile on her face. Her light-blonde hair was tied into a high ponytail and her glasses were crooked, a sure sign that Jo was running late as usual.

Daphne kissed her mom on the cheek and passed her a piece of toast which she'd just generously covered in butter and chocolate sprinkles. "Love you mom, and your glasses are on crooked." With that she sat down on a chair next to Georgio with a dramatic flourish and munched her sandwich.

"Do you know what kind of Pokémon you'll be getting yet?" Jo asked, sitting down opposite of Daphne and passing her a glass of orange juice, coffee for Jo herself of course.

"No but I think we get to chose don't we? I'll definitely get something cute and fluffy!" Daphne took a huge sip on her orange juice, nearly choking as the liquid decided it would go into the wrong pipe.

"Don't swallow and breathe at the same time Daphne," Jo said absently, at the same time trying to swipe some food off of Georgio's shirt. Daphne made a confirming noise as she chugged all the orange juice in one go. She then stuffed the last of her bread and her mouth and grabbed the jacket Jo had laid out for her.

"Gotta go now!" She said through the last pieces of bread left in her mouth, so it was a bit muffled.

"Sissy hug!" Georgie demanded and Daphne smiled. "Of course, how could I forget you?" She swooped her baby brother up in a hug and turned in a circle, making Georgio giggle like a mad-man, or mad-boy in his case. She set him down and gave him a kiss on the forehead. "Bye Georgie, you gotta be good to mum now, okay? You're the man of the house now! And I'll call you once a week at least!"

"Every day!" Georgio protested and Daphne giggled.

"I'll try, okay?" Then she hugged Jo, who was pretending her eyes weren't all watery like any mom's would. "Bye mom, be good to Georgie alright? And spoil him rotten for me?"

"I'll do just that," Jo said. "And do call when you can will you? I'm not paying your phone bills for nothing!" Daphne laughed at that and took up her purse.

"Alright I really do gotta go now, talk to you soon!" And with that she was out the door. It was strange walking to the ever-so-neat town knowing she wasn't going to be there for a long while. It was also strange to approach the fenced and unblemished building of the lab, a place she'd been looking up to for a long, long time.

She squealed excitedly as she opened the picket fence and entered the premises. She quite seriously almost skipped the way to the doors, that's how excited she was. Plus, she'd heard rumors that the Professor was quite a cutie too. As she opened the door she played with her hair a little, a but of a nervous habit. She caught herself trying to put her hair behind her ears, which would expose said ears, and quickly slapped herself on the hand.

This was it, she was finally doing it! She jumped up and down a little, squealing to herself.

"Why… hello," came a skeptic voice and Daphne immediately flushed red. "You are one of the trainers I presume?" He sounded incredibly impatient.

When Daphne finally dared to look up she saw the Professor, though his appearance was ruffled as an understatement. He was definitely good-looking, very good-looking, but also very tired. There were bruises under his eyes and he was slouching ever-so-slightly. "Ehm, yes, hello," she said shyly, kicking herself mentally (For doing so physically would raise some eyebrows for sure) for making a fool out of herself. "M-my name is Daphne Georgopoulos," she stammered.

"Georg-," the Professor repeated, immediately giving up on trying to say it, there was only one Daphne on the list anyway. "This way miss Daphne," he pointed toward a side-room with shelves full of Pokemon balls. "I'm Professor Cormier, as you should know, there's a list of the Pokémon there, go pick." He made no move to get into the room as well and hung by the entrance, glancing over a list on his clipboard absent-mindedly.

"Ooookay," Daphne said, giving him a bit of a stink-eye for not paying attention to her. She glanced over the list, not recognizing all names, but recognizing one. "Minccino is the cute fluffy rodent right?" she asked brightly. She got a bit of a grunt/mumble/confirmation from the Professor. "Alright, where's its ball?"

"Left, middle, second from the back," the Professor answered without much enthusiasm.

"Aaalright," Daphne said, looking over the racks. There were three on each side, so picking the middle one was easy, and she grabbed the second one from the back, all seemed perfect. Little did she know that she screwed up left/right like she did more often than she'd admit, and grabbed the Pokéball quite effectively on the left.

"Is that it?" She asked the Professor, who seemed to jolt awake a little.

"Oh, no, hold on…" Daphne signed, but followed Cormier back to the lobby. "Here's some empty PokéBall, a Pokédex and a map," he shoved the things in her arms and she quickly put them away in her bag, disgruntled by his manners. "That's should be all, good luck and stuff."

"You know what," Daphne snapped. "You're just about the rudest person I've ever met. You're hot, but your manners are seriously lacking. Good day to you, sir," she said, turned around dramatically and stormed off, leaving a little perplexed Professor Cormier. Though he just shrugged, his mind far away by the time she'd even been able to push open the door.

Lilliana: Please make the post 400 words at least, from now on. Not bad. Congratulations, you received your Pokemon, 5 Pokeballs, a Pokedex, and a map.
Doctor Who: Very awesomesauce post. You received your (wrong ;) ) Pokemon, 5 Pokeballs, a Pokedex, and a map.

Garith woke from his bed feeling anxious and sick. He was excited to get his pokemon today from the lab in his home town. "Well might as well get going," Garith muttered as he jumped out of bed and started putting his clothes on. As he put on his favorite jacket he proceeded to zip it up and spike his collar to hide some of his face. He then left his room walked down the hallway and into his mother's room which was located at the end of the hallway to the right. "Good morning mom," Garith said cheerfulness in his voice as he entered the room. "Morning Garith," His mother responded he voice sounded sad and frail. "Mother what's the matter?" Garith asked as he ran up to his mother's bed kneeling down. "Well it's just you're leaving today and I will miss you son," His mother answered as she placed her right hand on Garith's cheek. "Everything will be alright mom I'll send you a letter every chance I get," He said grabbing his mother's hand to try to comfort her.

"Morning Gins!" A man with red shaggy hair and orange his said as he entered the room. "Den," Garith said as the man walked in. Den was the man that had been taking care of Garith's mother while Garith is off doing other things. "What's the matter looks like you two have been crying all day," Den said jokingly. "Mom's just sad I'm leaving today," Garith replied getting up. "Speaking of that the strange looking professor is waiting for you Garith better get going," Den added as he opened the door for Garith. "You're probably right Den," Garith said as he started to walk out of the room. "Garith don't forget your bag," His mother said as Den grabbed a black backpack from the right corner of the room. "Good luck kido be the best," Den said. "Garith make me proud son and become the best trainer ever," His mother said. "I will mother and nothing is going to stop me," Garith said walking out of the room and out of the house.

As Garith walked along the road he started thinking about the professor. "I've spoken to him before," Garith began. "He's such a strange character," Garith concluded. As he reached the lab he noticed other people but just keep walking ignoring them. "Professor," Garith stated as he walked into the lab. "If it isn't Garith!" Professor Cormier exclaimed walking toward Garith. "How's your mother?" He asked. "Skip the pleasantries let's cut to the chase," Garith said coldly. "Meh for a kid about to start a pokemon journey you're not very enthused," Professor Cormier commented. "Well excuse me for not jumping for joy professor but I have a task to become the greatest pokemon trainer ever so just give me my pokemon," Garith said giving the professor a angry look.

"Fine kid here you go and some other things," The professor said handing Garith a pokeball containing a pokemon and other things. "Thank you," Garith said as he started to walk out of the lab. "What a depressing kid," Professor Cormier said as he went to attend other things. "Great now I'm going to start my journey," Garith said staring at the pokeball in his hand.

OOC: Sorry, got very distracted by 'stuff'

IC:

Odessa had arrived in Amber town in the late afternoon, the sky turning a bright orange from the lowering sun. She looked around and was impressed, everything from the roads to the buildings looked new and fresh. She wondered if the other areas of the Vassa region were like this. "I should hurry to the lab before it gets any darker" she thought.

The lab was easy enough to spot, a large building right near the center of town with a fence and many Pokemon surrounding it. Odessa walked up and knocked on the door of the lab after dealing with a bit of nervousness about it being so late in the day. After a moment a young man opened the door, although he seemed a mess at the moment with a stain on his coat, a haggard look in his face, and wrinkled clothing, "Life of a scientist" she thought.

"Hi, i'm here to get my first Pokemon for the Vassa region" she said, a little self-conscious.

"Ah, yeah. I've been expecting you, although not quite this late." he said, looking at the setting sun.

"Sorry, I was kind of nervous and I put it off until the last moment" she said, trying not to blush

"Alright then, come in and I'll show you what Pokemon you can select from" he said, taking a step back from the door and letting her in.

Cormier lead Odessa into a back room with a line of Pokemon, he stood by the door while she looked through the Pokemon. She went through half the line before pausing at an electrike, she didn't know, just a warm happy feeling came from it, but she knew she would choose this one. Despite the feeling she looked through all of the Pokemon before returning to the electrike.

"Whats this electrike's name?" she asked

"That would be up to you, I normally don't have them named" he said.

Odessa looked at the ball for a second before an obscure bit of information surfaced in her mind, V=I/R. It was an equation relating to finding voltage in reference to current and resistance, she decided on a name. "I'll call you Ohm [Ω]" she said happily.

"So I guess that means you've made a decision" he said, more a statement then a question, "Good, if you'll come over here I'll give you some empty Poke-balls and a Pokedex" he said

A little under fifteen minutes later she was back outside the lab, the sun just on the cusp of being completely gone. She let Ω[shorthand name] out of his Pokeball, "Hi their" she said kindly, bending down to pet him behind the ear. Ω gave a happy cry, and Odessa smiled, knowing she had made a good choice.

I had exited Prof. Comier's lab fifteen minutes later with my new Pokemon by my side. I found it kind of cute how it just floated around and at times it would circle around me. I had no idea what to call it yet.

I always like giving Pokemon nicknames because referring to one's pokemon by species name is just boring. It implies that your Pokemon doesn't have a name of it's own. What if us humans were born and were just called baby until after the age of three? Wouldn't that just suck?

I took out my shiny new black poke'dex and flipped the cover open. I put it in front of Drifloon, hoping that I would get an idea of a name through it's poke'dex entry.

"Drifloon is comically known to usually try to grab children in attempts to spirit them away, but these attempts always end up with the Drifloon getting swung around. Being filled with air lets Drifloon either expand or shrink to express its feelings." The poke'dex beeped.

I raised my eyebrow and looked at Driflloon who seemed to be happy and innocent. There was no way this kind of Pokemon could abduct children right? It was just so innocent and cute. There was no way Drifloon would abduct children.

"Does your kind really abduct children?" I asked.

"Floon!"

I wasn't going to get any answer like that. I sighed as I flipped through the information, and even checking out its, no I mean her moves. Constrict and Minimize. Useless moves to others who look for just power. I could think of interesting ways to utilize these moves in battle.

But what mattered right now was giving her a name. Thinking back to the child abductions, most human kidnappers were usually touched in the head, or more precise loony. Wait that's it, Loony was going to be her name!

"Drifloon, your name from now on is Loony!"

"Floon!"

I had taken that as a sign of approval.

"Okay so I have the cereal ready on the table, and you're belongings are all ready and packed up in the car," Mark's mother said bursting into his room.

She was always good at getting straight to business, hence her career choice and all, but having to wake Mark up at 5:30am in the morning wasn't particularly fun.

"Unnhh…" Was all that Mark could muster having woken up startled like this. The fact is, she was his alarm clock, and that's how she'd wake him up. She never said the same thing twice either, so it always came to a surprise to him.

Her job was quite demanding it would take the apocalypse for her to get a day off; she had to start at 8am. In addition, not only was he getting his first Pokémon, he was also getting his cast off today finally, and that required a stop at the hospital. It had been a taxing 3 months with it on, and he was glad he would finally get it off. However, not so glad about the Pokémon journey his mother wanted him to take, because that would take him away, more or less, from his favourite pass time of dancing. He had even dreamt of aspirations of becoming a professional dancer, but like any other exaggerated mind at work, because of this journey he was about to undertake, he felt like he wouldn't ever be able to go back into dancing and end up instead having a desk job like his mom and dad.

To make doubly sure, she shook him.

"Yeah I'm up…" He responded.

"Good the earlier the better," she said, leaving his room.

Mark got up and did a couple stretches, something he has been accustomed to for quite some time, a part of his own routine. However, with his arm broken he couldn't do as much as he wanted to. He managed to get all ready in half an hour, wearing some good "first day out on his journey" clothes. He also remembered to bring his iPod ((not meant to advertise :P)), a staple for his dance music. He ate his breakfast quickly, and by 6:15am they were out the door.

Mark took in the town, he hadn't gotten a good look since he had come; he was too tired to see it. He noticed how strangely clean and new it was. He did remember his mom telling him that the region was still in development and that Amber Town was a city with the most modern technology and resources. When he was first told he'd be living here, he had attempted to search for a dance studio and was disappointed. In all its modernity, there wasn't one.

Taking a look at the town though, he wished that there was at least some age to it, as the over-cleanliness seemed somehow creepy, like that he was living in some futuristic society, which he supposed wasn't far from the truth.

Once they got to the hospital, Mark didn't have to wait long to get the cast cut off. His mom decided to keep it, against Mark's wishes, as she claimed it was a memento. He flexed his arm slowly and frowned at how stiff it had become, it would take a while to get it back to his usual flexibility. The doctor had told him not to exert the arm too much, with Mark dryly nodding his head in agreement.

By the time they had left the hospital, it was only 7:10 in the morning.

"Okay, now to Professor Cormier's lab…" She said, as though orienting herself.

"Will the lab even be open when I get there?" Mark asked.

"I hope so…" His mom replied.

They seemed to have left the urban area altogether, but judging by the road signs; they were still in the town. Certainly a much more beautiful place than the city itself, this place seemed wild and untamed. His mom made a final turn, and up past an open gate, was the lab. She stopped the car and with a smile seemingly saying "You'll have fun on your adventure", she got out and took out Mark's bags.

"I have a list of all the phone numbers programmed into your phone, so be sure to call if you need to. And I just… I just want you to have fun, I did, and I want you to experience it. I know you might not be as excited, but I guarantee you will."

Mark only gave a weak smile as a response. They exchanged tight hugs, and like that she was gone. He had never really felt alone or lost before, but he thought that this is what it must have felt like. He opened his bag and took out the invitation with his name on it and walked up past the gate, to the building itself. He looked around at the surrounding area and noticed some pokemon hanging around a ranch like area, all of which still seemed to be sleeping.

When he got to the white building itself, he peaked in, and noticed the lack of light. He sighed and gave a knock at the door. His thoughts were confirmed when no answer came. He decided to sit down next to the door, placing his bag behind him to support his back, holding the paper in his hand. He must have drifted off, because suddenly a man spoke.

"Hey kid! What are you doing? How'd you get in here? The gate is supposed to be locked tight."

"It was unlocked when I got here, and I'm here for a pokemon," Mark replied, holding up his invitation letter.

The professor sighed, unlocked the door and let the kid in.

"Wait right here while I get everything up and running… I almost forgot today was the day people would be picking up their pokemon…" He said absent-mindedly.

Mark was almost taken aback by the young man, he wasn't sure if the man was unprofessional or irritated by something else. He had an unkempt look and seemed certainly tired.

"Need coffee…" He said walking off, leaving Mark in the now lighted room.

Mark lost track of time while waiting, and felt like nodding off again when suddenly he heard the professor swear quite loudly followed by a splash and a crack. Now Mark wasn't sure he wanted to confront the man. It surely would be a good excuse to his mom for reasoning on not being able to obtain a pokemon… Then he could perhaps go back to doing what he liked…

No, that wouldn't stop mom… He thought.

Finally at around 8am he approached Mark with a fresh coffee stain on his front. He looked disgruntled yet determined. Mark seemed confused, he didn't think giving Pokemon away took so long, or was such a big deal.

"If you follow me, I'll show you where you can pick your pokemon," he said rather calmly.

"Did you want my letter too?" Mark asked.

"Oh sure I guess… Ah Mark Saren one of today's younger new Vassa trainers." They came into a room where a variety of Pokeballs were still on the walls, and an empty area for Pokemon to walk about. "Since you were the first one here, I haven't had time to properly set up the area… Not to mention the other work… But anyhow… I'm sure you read the invitation and have already figured out which pokemon you wanted," he said smiling.

"I don't really care which one," Mark said indifferently.

Professor Cormier was surprised by the unexpected response. But he chuckled.

"Ha! I bet your parents thought a pokemon journey would do you good," he said.

Mark flinched at the accuracy of the statement.

"It's not uncommon, but there is good news, most trainers that start out like you take back their indifference, and now they love being Pokemon trainers… For the ones still alive that is!"

At this Mark's eyes widened in horror, mouth agape.

"I kid, I kid… But seriously though, you won't regret it. Now than since you haven't chosen one, You can take a look at the list there and pick one out if you like," the professor said.

"Can't you just pick one out for me?" Mark said almost pleadingly.

"Hoho, you're too simple… You have to be more stubborn like me. Well let me ask you this, what do you like doing aside from training pokemon (which should be a given)."

Mark ignored the obvious bias, "well I like dancing," he answered, giving a smirk.

"Ha! Then I have the right pokemon for you." He turned around and picked a pokeball off the shelf. Tyrogue is a fighting type, it's quite energetic too, I hope you can keep up with it." He handed it to Mark before Mark had any other say in the matter.

"Now then you can also have these things pertinent to your journey and you'll be like any other ready Pokemon trainer out there," the professor said, rummaging through some supplies. He handed Mark a Pokedex, 5 empty pokeballs and the region's map (on paper no less!). He put everything in his bag, aside from the Pokedex, remembering his mom said that he should keep it on his person at all times.

"Now then, get going… shoo, there will be more people coming in." He motioned his hands towards the door, yet Mark couldn't help but notice a look of longing.

Without saying another word, Mark left and headed down the path back to the gate entrance. He decided he might as well get acquainted with the pokemon he had acquired. He let the ball open, as though he had done so before in natural movement. Out popped the aforementioned Tyrogue.

"Rogue!" It said excitedly, noticing that it now had been picked. It jumped in the air excitedly too.

Mark couldn't help but smile, and despite himself, in what his journey would become.

The gentle hum of the engines which had soothed Travis on his long flight finally subsided, seeing as the vehicle had landed. Up in the air, after they passed through the white clouds, the new region was unveiled for the first time to Trav. It definitely appeared extreme. The climate differences were blatantly visible from his circular window on the jet- a third of the island was coated in green, another third in brown and red and the last fraction was white, and it was all surrounded by a pure blue. Recalling this view, Trav, with bags in each hand hanging down by his knees, took his first step into the Vassa Region, into the mystery. The warmth of the sun hit him first, and then the refreshingly cool wind followed suit.

"Amber Town, Mr. Jellum. You're expected at the Professor's laboratory as soon as possible." The flight attendant had followed him onto the grass, holding out one more bag of Travis's. He grabbed the strap and slung it across his chest.

"Thank you Esmerelda, and have a safe flight back." His perfect teeth flashed in a smile as one of his eyes, concealed by a pair of white-rimmed sunglasses, winked. Esmerelda- at least age 25- rolled her eyes and returned to the jet, whose engines started up again. That was the moment that his solitary adventure began.

The town was quaint and neat, all the cozy houses having white picket fences that rolled over the gentle hills. But Travis hardly noticed these since his attention was locked on the tall white building isolated outside the central town. Quickly he was at the laboratory's doorstep, bags still in hand.

The professor let him in nicely enough, though he appeared a bit frazzled. Travis dropped his bags on the floor.

"Not to seem hasty Professor, but where are the Pokemon for us newbie trainers?" Smiling, the Professor directed him to the back room, which had racks filled with labeled Pokeballs. After searching for a while and realizing that he recognized about only half of the options, Trav narrowed it down to two Pokemon starters, Mudkip or Chimchar. On the one hand, Mudkips were rare in Kanto, and he'd never started with a water type. But then again, he had combatted a particularly rough Infernape in the League, and he was sure that he could replicate that with his own Chimchar. The decision was really about new vs. experience, about letting go or holding on.

Travis walked out of the lab, bags hanging at both of his sides and one across his chest, but now with a Pokeball in his hand. He opened the ball.

"Kipkip!"

Cooker: No worries, nice post =) Congratulations, you received your Pokemon, 5 Pokeballs, a Pokedex, and a map.

Chapter 2: Route 301 Part 1
Number of Posts: 1-2

You might decide it's time to take a look at your maps before you get a move on, otherwise you could get lost. Or you could wing it, whatever floats your boat. In any case, should you look at your map you can easily tell that this route is probably the longest route in the entire region. The route heads south from Amber Town at first, but then suddenly juts over to the west where you see a rest area is located. Once you actually approach the route, you can tell that it's made up of tall grasses and looks like it'll be home to more grassland type Pokemon. A few trees are scattered here and there, but not many. Just before the rest area, there is a huge patch of grass so dense you cannot see over it. Good luck navigating through it, and you might want to watch out for the Pokemon along the way.

How Capturing Works:
Basically, if you want to capture a Pokemon, end your post with the Pokeball shaking and I'll let you know what happens. If you want something in the "rare" category, your post had darn well best be good. The more common it is, the simpler the post can be. I decide the level/gender/etc. Your level of the Pokemon you manage to capture is also dependent on how good or bad the post is. Good luck.

How Battling Works:
You can throw in NPCs to battle if you would prefer to do that instead of capture a Pokemon. Or, you could even battle a wild Pokemon and just not capture it. Generally I'll give you levels based on the quality of your posts, but even if it's complete crap you will still earn at least 1 level.

Questions? :
Just VM/PM me or ask in the OOC thread.
