    I had found this article in my local newspaper yesterday (from The Vancouver Province) and managed to find it at the real source.

    Gardeners Critical over Slug Protection

    Remember those animal protection laws? It just said that gardeners will be fined if they "kill[ed] insects, worms, caterpillars, slugs and snails, if scientific evidence proves they have suffered pain and distress." I find it quite proposterous as well as funny. Next thing we'll be fined for slapping mosquitoes at picnics.

    OMG!!! I never kill insects or bugs and then I try to convince everyone else not to either because I say like "how would like to be a tiny bug, then a giant comes over to you and squishes you and you die" I would not like that at all, if there was a bug in the way or in my house (EVEN A BEE OR POISONOUS INSECT!!!) I pick it up if it is not poisonous and if it is or stings I use a net, cup etc and take it out side. Yay finally something is done XD I can't see it either though...
     
    They must be talking about cruelty to animals, like if someone proves that the person salted the slugs, glued the bugs to paper and held a magnifying glass over them at midday, stuff like that, because that's torture, but if it has nothing to do with cruelty and simply pertains to the act of killing an insect then it's a really foolish law. You simply can't avoid killing insects when you mow or even walk on the lawn. At times, might I add, it's necessary to kill harmful insects like mosquitos, bees, and spiders. Also, exterminators need to kill termites and carpenter ants to save houses from damage and destruction. But I hope the law isn't that extreme o_O
     
    my city has some pretty stupid laws... as of a week or so ago, it is unlawful to have plastic furnature in down town los altos. i guess the city council had nothing better to do than ban the "eyesores." just goes to show what a cool place los altos is.

    Actually a few make sense. Like this one:

    It is a violation of city code to sell chicks or ducklings to a minor within 1 week of the Easter holiday.
    Location: United States, Maryland, Baltimore

    That is to prevent lots of people buying pet chicks or ducks for their kids for easter. Chicks and ducks do not make good pets unless on a farm or somewhere with a lake. I mean, lots of people see a cute little chick in the store window and say awww, take it home and then can't take care of it. It is sad how lots of chick and ducks die like that so that is a reasonable law in my opinion.
     
    actually a lot of laws are stupid... I know that I violate this one (and see a lot of people violate this one) in Edmonton

    -it is illegal to take off a bandage in public

    there's a lot of websites with a collection of stupid laws... some of them has explanations to why (such as Quebec's language laws about signs), but some of them are plain stupid
     
    I read a book of ridiculous laws in the US. One said that you can't molest an alligator in Florida. I can't figure for the life of me why anyone would want to do that anyway.

    Yes. He's right, that must be what they mean.

    I saw this awful video on the internet once where these people made a maze with salt walls, and just set a slug in the middle of it. That's so mean. And it was for the sheer fun of it.

    Also, everyone is referring to these slugs and snails as insects? Or perhaps you simply mean excluding slugs and snails?

    First of all, who would want to kill a snail? They're harmless, besides the killer snails that can kill a human in less than 5 minutes that live in the bottom of the ocean. My apple snail died, and I couldnt get over it for a long time. I even wrote a poem about how much I loved him... its just sad.

    Anyway, like Kaga said, if they mean just for "insect" torture, I'm all for the law, but if its just like swatting the little flies in your house... thats pretty pointless.

    *ROLF*~ Can't kill insects? Thats such a dumb law. Glad I don't live in that country *sets spider on fire*. Besides, how are they supposed to know if you killed an insect? In the privacy of your own home, and it could be an accident! I also certainly don't believe they're gonna waste time to get scientific evidence, just 'cause you killed a bug.

    That's about as stupid as the laws in Florida that say you can't molest a garbage can or have a sexual ralationship with a porcupine! XD Just had to post those...Also somewhere in florida, it's illegal to fart in public after 6 p.m. on thursdays! XDXDXDXDXDXDXDXD

    I always kill spiders, in fact, I killed one less than an hour ago. Stupid arachnids, except you Spidey, you're special.
     
    And the sad thing about all these laws is that someone would have to have done the act for a law to be passed to illegalize it o_O

    You salt slugs for fun! Oh my god that is just sick and cruel! I hope you get galons of acid dumped on you. Slugs are dont do anything wrong. Why is it so funny to kill thim? Someone like you deservs to die. I realy hope you change your ways.
