Here is where you can discuss the upper echelons of Trainer academia in "The School of Hard Knocks."
My review to come forthwith.
My review to come forthwith.
This is an odd episode because it's the only one where Ash is attracted to a girl. The little boy uses an arcade style Game Boy XD The thing where the girl's talking to the boy at the end is soo cheesy, I can't rememeber what she says but you could seriously take the cheese off the screen...
This episode also introduces the Generation I type and Level system from the games into the anime (and is quickly retconned out).
Jessie and James meeting at Pokemon Tech... "We frolicked the night away!" OMG, this episode is soooo laced with dirty undertones like that. Between that and Brock's "She can violate my rights" speech, this had to be the shippingest episode ever.Same goes for Jessie and James, as I had wondered, "had they met prior to being with Team Rocket?" Of course, that got retconned out, too.I hate retcons, too.
Speaking of whom, James was also attracted to Giselle, isn't that weird? Haha. Considering the later gay arguments or the Rocketshipper ones, I was surprised at him here.
The weirdest part in the episode is how Giselle actually has a surname (in the Japanese version). From Dogasu:
"Yuutou Seiyo..."Yuutou" is her last name), and the katakana on the left is Jun's name. Why Seiyo is one of the only people in the entire series who gets a last name and kanji is a mystery."
That's the one thing that has truly bugged me about this franchise -- why no surnames. Anime is usually good about that, yet not here. Weird, and frustrating.

I think they gave her a last name because she a higher up in the school. EVERYONE knows her full name. To be honest why isn't any of the main cast given one. Satoshi doesnt have one, Takeshi doesnt have one, Kasumi doent have one, Kenji doesnt have one. Only Shigeru and his grandpa.
The first episode oef the show that I actually liked. It was nice seeing Ash aknowledge a girl. The reason they mention levels is probably for rankings on the skill of those little Pocket Monsters.
Why did they give Ash a last name? No one is going to "Ketchum" all anymore XD. *shot*
Actually Mario's last name is Mario (even Nintendo has confirmed this) meaning he's Mario Mario. Link's last name changes from game to game since they are of different family lineage (with the exception of games that feature the same link).Indeed. Lots of double entrandres there. How awesome. Usually, it's gay subtext, so I don't mind the other way. Hehe.
I forgot about Shigeru and the professor having surnames, so good catch. But, Shigeru is usually an afterthought to me, so I don't immediate think of him on such things. Anyway, yes, I don't know why Nintendo has opted out of that. Of course, they've always had that problem -- look at Mario or Link (they don't have surnames, their media notwithstanding), then again, we have Samus Aran.
Ugh. Insanity.
I'm sure Brock's last name was Rock? Brock Rock? Didn't his father say that? I can't remember.
Umm.. lets get off the names...Most official sources do not give Brock a last name. However, several sources suggest that in the anime, his last name is Harrison. In the July 2006 issue of K-Zone Magazine Eric Stuart was interview and stated that Brock's last name is Harrison.
