Bachkround Info. [2-3 paragraph minimum]: Matt lost his father shortly after his 1st birthday. His father, Gate Negus, was a famously talented pokemon trainer, while on a journey in another region, was mysteriously killed. The case was never solved. Matt himself grew up with his mother, uncle and grandmother, along with all his fathers old pokemon on their small ranch. As a child, Matt spent most of his time taking care of, training, and playing with his fathers pokemon, till the pint where people began commenting on how he seemed more comfortable around pokemon then he did people. he even became enamored with martial arts while mimicing his fathers fighting pokemon.
Growing up under his father's long shadow, Matt inevitably found himsel being compared to him, with peopole wondering if he would end up a great trainer like his father. However, instead of buckling under the scrutiny, it only made Matt determined, determined to surpass his father and be better than they could ever imagine. He made up his mind at a very young age that he would build his own legend as a trainer. However, his widowed mother wasnt too keen on having her only son follow in his fathers footsteps so to speak, and she did everything she could to gently try and ease him towards another vocation, with little success. She fended off his pleas for a pokemon of his own to train for as long as she could till, on his 10th birthday, she presented Matt with a pokemon egg she had gotten from a friend in johto.
Matt was overjoyed, and cared for the egg for weeks, taking it with him everywhere, until one day, it finally hatched...into a Togepi. His mother had thought that maybe taking care of the small pokemon would disuade Matt from asspirations of training. She was wrong. For the next 4 months, Matt trained and bonded with his Togepi, Which soon became a Togetic, the two becoming more like brothers or family members than master and pokemon. When matt thought they had gotten good enough, he pooled his allowance to buy a few pokeballs, and he and his partner snuck out late at night into the forests far from town. Once there, they searched fruitlessly for several hours, Till they finally stumbled across a Wild Ryhorn. It took a while, but eventually Matt and togetic managed to subdue the larger stronger pokemon pokemon and catch it. needless to say, people were surprised when they returned home, proudly riding the Ryhorn. It was enough to finally convince Matt's mom that he was destined to become a trainer, and she gave him her blessing to got out and make it happen. a few days later, matt left, with togetic and Ryhorn in tow, on his journey.
It took him almost a year and a half, but eventually matt gained all 8 badges of the Kanto Region, and Challenged the pokemon league there. He made it past all four of the elite four, but was unable to beat the champion. However, the experience solidified Matt's resolve, and gained him a new goal. Matt decided he would one day beat the champions of all 4 regions, there by simultaneusly becoming the Champion of all four regions himself. soon after his defeat, he left kanto and began traveling between the regions, battling, entering tournaments and sharpening his and his pokemons skills for the day he would start challenging all the leagues, one by one, one after the other.
Personality: Matt tends to come off as a completely self contained, quiet, sometimes cold person, but he's actually very compassionte. In fact, it's actually it's Because of the fact that he's so sensitive to others that he has built up a sort of shell within his personality.
He has a tendency To zone out at times,or just plain not hear people when speak to him while he has his head phones on. He's honest, loyal to a fault, and insanely driven. Once he sets his mind something, theres not much anyone can do to stop him.
His attitude towards pokemon is a little unique as well, as he treats them more like people than anything. He speaks to them, when they train he trains with them, and it's rare to see him walking from place to without one of them out of their balls following him.
He DOES have a bit of an anger problem when it comes to people mistreating pokemon though. He's not above resorting to physical violence when he see someone being very cruel to a pokemon.
When he battles his personality changes as well. He becomes more excitable, for sure. His battle style has been accused of being rather wild and overly brutal as well, But these are always brushed off due to the fact that he's never actually harmed a pokemon in a battle(more than a regular battle anyway).
Other Information:yeah, matt know some kung fu, whoa. mostly self taught, but it works, and it's effective, thought he doest ues it for much more than training. He also has a slight police record for a few times he got into fights with people who severley mistreated there pokemon, but he was always let off since the people were doing something criminal anyway.
