"The Thief That Keeps On Thieving!" Episode Discussion

Part of DP: Battle Dimension, not DP for dub

Oh ok thanks, gotcha. That's awfully confusing though, the way they divide the series. Pokemon Chronicles confused the heck out of me! The whole we're-sort-of-a-spinoff-but-let's-call-it-part-of-the-series thing.

If you think about it, the dub changing titles at every new opening is incredibly stupid - nothing is different. Japan has only changed the series name twice

Haha no way! That's funny! And probably a lot less confusing. Are dub viewers' attention spans seriously so small that we'd get bored with the same opening? I don't remember being sick of the original song. That thing is a classic.

Oh, Japan has changed openings as many times as we have, expcept Battle Frontier where Japan had 2. But Japan only has 3 series names, Pocket Monsters (Kanto to Johto) Advance Generation (Hoenn and Battle Frontier) and, of course, Diamond&Pearl

Oh ok I see. So do they name it according to what set of Pokemon it is? Like, Advanced would be Sapphire & Ruby's, DP speaks for itself, etc? I guess I should study up on the Dub Series titles as well, bc the mix of watching reruns and new episodes is getting confusing. o_0

Yeah, I've always thought that "Advance Generation" was refering to RSE being played on the Game Boy Advance

"Guess yanma likes landing on peoples heads."
ash cracks me up :D

It kinda is, yet it isn't. Japan doesn't do TV seasons, so the different titles are to give the US viewers a point of reference, since we do go by TV seasons. I know where you live, the Brits go by "series," even though, it's part of the same show. So, yeah, crazy, isn't it? Heh.

That's what I thought, its easier to show it's a new season (I've just got into the habit of saying "season" rather than "series" haha) and to advertise it if it has a new title, but they didn't do that with Orange Islands or Indigo League, they have no official name (I think?)

We've ruined you! Hehehe.

No, they didn't went for new titles in the early days, as they didn't realize the need for them. In most shows, they usually retain the same time/themes throughout. However, given how expansive Johto would be, and to emphasize the "brave, new world" aspects, they figured to go for a change.

Of course, given the titles and the OPs, it certainly helps me figure which episode is from what region.
