The Ultimate Cinematic Experience

Okay, fantasy scenario here. You have arrived through, I don't know, witchcraft, at a cinema which is showing any movie you please at any time you desire. Every food that could exist is available at this cinema, every drink, etc. The only downside about this cinema is that you must pay a requisite $10 dollars per film you watch, but that's a) cheaper than most cinemas and b) they need to keep an income! Basically, everything you could ever want is here.

  • What movie/s do you see?
  • When?
  • What food and drink do you bring in, if any?
  • Is there a specific type of cinema you would like to be in?
  • Do you want previews/advertisements to be shown?
  • Do you want to be by yourself? Or in a crowd?
  • Just describe your ultimate movie going experience.

I really hate when somebody lists questions in their post and then everybody takes that as an invitation to answer the question in the same format, but just this once I am going to break my own rule and do that:

What movie would you see?

This is the one question I can't answer definitively. There are tons of movies that are possibilites: For instance, Harry Potter 1, 2, 5, 6, 7 or 8. Then there's The Avengers or any one of the hundreds of beyond-amazing films I've seen over the years. But ultimately I think the best movie experience is had when it's a movie you've never seen before... so I can't give you a title. Perhaps Snow White and the Huntsman? That's the movie that's next on my agenda to see.

When?
Night time - always night time. There is something more special for me about going to the movies tonight. Perhaps grabbing dinner beforehand and making an evening out of it. I like going to the real late sessions - the latest ones where I live usually go in anywhere between 9 and 9:30pm. Though if I can get it later (like those times an epic blockbuster movie comes out and they put on midnight sessions) then that's even better.

Food and drink?
I don't really do a lot of eating in a movie. I don't like to do anything that will distract me from the film itself, so I don't tend to bring a lot of food in with me. When I do, it's usually just a bag of candy or a chocolate bar or something. And usually I'm nearly finished by the time the previews and ads are over lol. As for drink - SLUSHIE ALL THE WAY. Usually it's Frozen Coke (because I hate the raspberry flavour) but they have a limited edition Passionfruit flavour there at the moment which is awesome!

Specific type of cinema?
Here, the cinema I like is called "Xtremescreen" or "VMAX" depending on which cinema I go to. The idea of it is that it costs a few dollars more because the screen is bigger - I don't pay it because of that. In fact, I don't even think the screen actually is bigger... at least not that I've noticed. I go to those cinemas because the seats are way more comfortable and set further apart so you're not in each others laps, and they're cleaner and it's a more comfortable experience overall. So that's the one where I'd go. There are also First Class cinemas where you can have these awesome armchairs all to yourself, but I find that they're too relaxing to be compatible with a stimulating movie experience, so I wouldn't go there for the ULTIMATE time at the movies :P

Previews/advertisements?
YES. YES ONE THOUSAND TIMES YES. Usually at the movies here there are a bunch of ads and like three to five film trailers. What I'd do is cut the advertisements and add in another five film trailers. I love trailers so much. Often I find no matter how amazing the movie is, the previews are the best part of the whole thing, and I never let myself be late for the movies because they show previews first. I don't want to miss them! They're so awesome aaaa!

By yourself or in a crowd?
I wouldn't wanna see a film by myself. That'd just be awkward. Ideally I'd want to go with a few of my friends and we'd have the cinema to ourselves. And then we'd sit up the very back of the cinema right in the middle because those are the optimum seats in my opinion. Though I don't actually mind other people being there, as long as it isn't too full. But for the ultimate experience, just me and my friends! :D

And that is my ultimate movie-going experience! Thanks for reading!

$10!? That's a fantastic price. I'm game.

What movie/s do you see?
First ones that came to mind:
- The Original Star Wars Trilogy
- The Dark Knight Trilogy
- Jurassic Park
- Raiders of the Lost Ark

But I'd be fine with any of my favourites and guilty pleasures (I'm looking at you "Super Mario Bros.")

When?
Whenever. What's it matter? I've never seen a clock or calendar in a movie theatre.

What food and drink do you bring in, if any?
Water, chocolate milk shake, Mars bar, Reese's, Oreos, New York Fries with gravy

Is there a specific type of cinema you would like to be in?
Biggest, IMAX screen there is. And in 3D. Super duper ultra surround sound. Hell, throw in that strange moving seat thing that I haven't tried yet.

Do you want previews/advertisements to be shown?
For upcoming movies, yes. It is part of the experience. I don't want ads for the theatre or banks or universities or cars. And no lame pre-movie trivia.

Do you want to be by yourself? Or in a crowd?
By myself or with people I enjoy the company of.

Just describe your ultimate movie going experience.
See above?

If the $10 got me all the food and snacks I wanted then this would be great. If not, then I think I'd stick to the $7 matinees.

Anyway, the experience has to start with the wait in line, because you don't get the excitement of a good movie if you don't wait in line. A short wait is enough though. 20 minutes or so. That gives me time to talk with my friends. Then when we get to our seats there aren't ads playing, but music, and it's all music that I like. The trailers go on for quite a long time so they can show a lot of movies, not just the ones that the ad executives think belong to my demographic. I want to see what's coming out since I never know about the good ones until they're super well-publicized.

I'd want the place to have all the regular candy that a movie theatre should have and then some. None of that awful popcorn that tastes like it took a bath in a chemical dump though. I'd like a lot of tasty, salty snacks, potato chips mostly: veggie chips, curry flavored chips, potato flavored chips, etc. As long as there is enough to eat and I don't get full on it I'm gonna be pretty happy. I get antsy sitting for a long time during a movie without something to eat. (I would eat whole meals in a theatre if I could.)

The design of the theatre can be anything, really, as long as the seats recline a little, have cup holders, and I can put my feet up on a little bar or something. Needless to say my ideal experience would not involve other people in the theatre - just me and friends. I don't want to have to hear other people and I want to be able to talk a little if I feel like it.

As for the movies themselves, I dunno. I think I'd prefer something fun/active/adventure-y/fantasy/scfi/etc. Like the Avengers. I want to be entertained if I'm going to have this big great experience. Not saying I can't be entertained by quieter, more intimate movies, but I want to have something to talk about after the movie is over. That means it's gonna have to be a new movie, not one of my favorites. And I mean new to me, not new in general. There are plenty of movies I haven't seen that I mean to.

Let's do this!

What movie/s do you see?

A mixture of older films chosen by moi and newer, slightly arthouse ones... also chosen by me. The occasional blockbuster would get screened - this niche cinemas need to show the biggest in order to stay alive in such a tough market - but not at the expensive of a smaller, more intimate film playing at the same time. There'd be special themed programs of films, like a Woody Allen season, or a Pixar season or something like that - to prevent people from getting bored with the same ol' stuff.

When?
Hopefully this cinema would run from about midday til about midnight. With maybe a few midnight screenings for the big blockbuster films if the studios permit it.

What food and drink do you bring in, if any?
I have no real objection to bringing in food/drink, so long as it isn't completely overpowering to the cinematic experience. So, if anything, hot food with an odour would not be permitted, but popcorn and drinks and chocolate would. Despite the fact that they're crunchy, but this is my weird logic.

Is there a specific type of cinema you would like to be in?
I find independent, small-scale cinemas a much better environment to be in than the big monotonous multiplexes. Often the small-scale ones will show films in 35mm as opposed to digital print, which is often what the filmmakers intended, and I'd intend to preserve.

Do you want previews/advertisements to be shown?
In an ideal world, no. I don't like watching trailers for upcoming films... but I know that's a quirk of mine. Ironically, I'd much rather watch adverts for non-cinematic products like Coke or Gilette razors than see a trailer for an upcoming film.

Do you want to be by yourself? Or in a crowd?
Oh god, I hate seeing films with other people. I don't mind if the screening is packed to the rafters, but I really dislike going with my friends or something, as they always manage to find a way to talk over the film or prod me for information they don't understand or just talk in general. As antisocial as this is going to sound, I often go to the cinema to get away from my friends, and to just be in the darkened room absorbing whatever the projectionist is beaming onto that screen in front of me.

What movie/s do you see?
Lord of the rings trilogy

When?
All night long baby

What food and drink do you bring in, if any?
Salted and sweet popcorn and lots and lots of coke.

Is there a specific type of cinema you would like to be in?
A small one

Do you want previews/advertisements to be shown?
Hell no

Do you want to be by yourself? Or in a crowd?
In a very small crowd

Just describe your ultimate movie going experience.
It'd be small, dark and cramped. There's be no adverts and only a 5 minute interval in between films. Oh oh oh and we'd get to sleep at the Cinema afterwards/through the film. There'd also be naked girls roaming the gangway for no apparent reason.

I answered!
