'Remember the ring,' Alvender tried to say, reaching out for Skye's mind, hoping with all his heart that she would hear him. He could connect with another's mind, but only for a few seconds, so he hoped that she would remember that if she spoke his name, the ring would reach out and teleport Alvender to her aid. He didn't know or hear what went on with Lucas and Skye, but he had a nagging feeling that he should at least attempt to give her a back-up plan, just incase something did or was happening.

Alvender walked into the room and was immediately attacked by his sister's twin scimitars, which weaved in and out trying to find a weakness. Not feeling up to the training, Alvender lamely slapped aside each attack, with each block he moved slowly and boredly closer to his sister.

"What's wrong?" Alicia said jumping back.

"It's nothing, can we move on with the training? There has to be something more to being a warrior than just swordplay," Alvender said dully.

"There is, come with me," Alicia said as she led him outside and into a near forest, where they came upon a waterfall. "Sit down, meditate. A warrior must be mentally and physically tough. You a quick toughed, and sharp-witted, but it means nothing if you can't use that to your advantage when you are tempted to fight with the blade and not with your mind," Alicia explained in a matter-of-fact tone.

Alvender nodded, not raising any kind of argument, which worried his sister greatly. Alvender crossed his legs and took a deep breath, and set off to clear his mind above the loud roar of the waterfall.

Skye retreated back to the academy for her afternoon lessons. She mde her way down to the underlevels of the academy, to the spacious room she and Lucas used to train. He had not yet arrived.

Yukiko scampered out the room, oddly anxious, as it was not her nature to be so. Skye walked to the center of the room, staff in hand, looking about her, feeling on-edge. There was something not right about this.

MOVE Yukiko's voice shot through her mind like a dagger. Skye leapt aside as Yukiko changed to her full size, and leapt in front of Skye to protect her. Honing some of Skye's magic through their mind link, Yukiko formed a shield around herself and Skye as Lucas charged at them from the darkness.

"Bravo," he said with a smile, stopping short of Yukiko's snarling mouth. He shuffled back a few paces. "You're a quick dragon, Yukiko."

Yukiko made a noise somewhere between a snort and a snarl, and retreated a few paces to Skye's side, shrinking to the size of a large dog, her eyes watching keenly.

"What was that for?" Skye demanded breathlessly, her indigo eyes wide and alarmed.

"We're going to work on repelling spells today using something other than your shield spell," Lucas told her. "I'm going to throw some pretty heavy spells at you, everything short of the killing curse. It's going to be your job to repel them."

"Lucas, I don't think...?"

"What, you don't think you're ready?" Lucas chuckled. Skye did not like the light way he was taking the situation. "You are. You've proven yourself thus far."

"I'm not afraid of the spells you're going to throw, but when they're repelled, especially if I use a reflection spell, they'll be way too powerful..."

"Who's the mentor here?" Lucas asked her with a raised eyebrow. "Your job is to train. It's my job to worry about safety. This will be fine. Now...let's begin."

Skye took her position, staff at the ready, and then Lucas completely disappeared. A flicker of a vaguely familiar presence entered the room at that same instant, but it was gone before either dragon or wizzard could recognize who it was. Shocked, Skye lost focus, feeling panicked, but Yukiko, who was unaffected by invisibility spells, acted as Skye's eyes.

A jet of yellow energy shot towards her, and she recognized it as a stunning spell, which she deflected with the counter spell. On her feet and alert, she watched the energy disappear as it was absorbed by her counter. With Yukiko sensing where Lucas was, Skye deflected every spell that came her way, using a mix of counter spells and reflection spells. She found a great deal more power within her now that she bore a staff, but remained alert and unblinded by conceit.

Each spell was more dangerous than the last, and Skye felt her energy dwindling. She became steadily weaker as Lucas bombarded her with spells and curses. Panting, she pushed herself into defense. Yukiko was getting tired too. The dragon stayed clinging tightly around Skye's shoulders and arms, sharing her energy.

"Lucas...I think I've had enough...." she called blindly into the darkness. A few more spells came her way, which she deflected, but with much less accuracy than before. "Lucas...I'm...serious...."

Her mind was swimming, and she was loosing focus. Yukiko nudged her mind sharply. The strange presence had entered the room again, long enough for her to sense familiarity...a presence Skye had felt before, but it was no one she had ever met face-to-face. She fell to her knees, exhausted, as Lucas emerged from the darkness.

"What...happened?" she asked weakly. She felt her conciousness slowly slipping. Lucas caught her before she hit the floor. She looked up at him, frightened, before she became fully unconcious, Yukiko sprawled out on the floor.

"Alvender..." she mouthed before closing her eyes.

A strange surge of pain filled his body, it was like something was trying to get to him, but something else was blocking it. "Skye..." Alvender realized after a brief moment of further meditation.

"What's wrong?" Alicia asked, seeing the worried expression on his face as he looked up to her.

"Skye...she's in trouble," Alvender replied jumping to his feet. "I gave her an elven friendship ring, actually mother gave me the power to craft it. Something is blocking it's magic from reaching me," Alvender said as he swords appeared in both hands.

"Come," Alicia said, understanding fully what Alvender meant, and the urgence of the what was happening. She had once given the same type of ring to a friend she had made on her many years of adventuring, only to have him die before she could get to him. "Where is she?" Alicia asked as they sprinted towards the academy.

"With Lucas by now, but I don't know where they are," Alvender admitted to her.

"I do, follow me!" Alicia said heading down several flights of stairs. Finally they had reached the underlevel of the academy, one of Lucas's prefered training grounds. Alicia's twin scimitars had been replaced by her favored twin rapiers, as well, Alvender's broadsword was replaced by another scimitar that he had shown an interest in while they were going through the weapons collection.

"Lucas, what's going on here!" Alicia demanded, his superior by wizardry and by swordsmanship. An elf of her stature didn't often only specialize in one area of combat, normally prefering to master all arts.

While, Alicia handled Lucas, Alvender went to work on healing Skye. Stopping cold right before he reached Skye, an icy fear rushed in at Alvender, freezing him right on the spot. There was something else here, in the room, hidding in the darkness that surrounded them. He could only guess one person, but he hoped to the gods it wasn't her; for the first time since he escaped the plantation, he began to shake, he felt so defenseless, although he was well equipped and could take on many a foe. "Who's here?" Alvender interrupted Alicia before she could get any information out of Lucas.

"What do you mean?" Alicia said turning her attention to Alvender, but still magically keeping track of Lucas.

Lucas felt the strange presence too, and it all came together for him. He cursed under his breath, holding Skye in his arms and squinting at the darkness.

"I've been possessed," Lucas growled, picking Skye and Yukiko up off the ground. Skye's face was pale, and Yukiko hung limp over his shoulder. "We need to get these two somewhere safe..."

As he said this, a shadow emerged from the dakness around them. Blond hair, red eyes, a piercing, knowing, tiumphant look on her face. She looked directly at Alvender and disappeared into a black vapor, but not before mouthing, "give up, come back, or she'll die."

The presnece was gone from the room. Lucas looked down at Skye, whose breathing was shallow, her face pale and cold. Yukiko stirred slightly on his shoulder, but that was the only movement from either of them.

Michael tries as he might but can't seem to get rid of the tiny anteater, "Will you just go away!" he yells. all it does is sit down and look up at him. "Serenity..." he complains, "help." all she does is giggle and wave at him.

"Oh come on Michael, it loves you like your it's mother!" She continued to giggle and smile, petting Severus upon his scaly head. The truth was that Severus was not at all slimy, just smooth and scaly.

"I'd rather be a mother!" he stoops down and grabs it with one large hand. he looks it in the eyes and it licks his nose.
"Serenity." he says taking it to her, "here keep it." he sits down next to her and it climbs into his lap.

Michael looks at it... it had it's little tounge sticking out... "well it is cute." he sighs, "well I guess I'll keep it... bue it needs a name..."

All the color drained from Alvender's face like a broken dam, as he saw who appeared. All he wanted to do was curl up into a ball and pretend that none of this ever happened. What was he supposed to do? Follow her back to the plantation or stay there and watch Skye, the only true friend he had now, die? "Can't you do anything?" Alvender said looking over to Alicia.

Alicia shook her head helplessly, not liking the situation at all. "The witch is too powerful."

"What are you going to do?" came a familiar voice from behind the group. There stood a tall and hansome red-headed man, with an unusual black strip running through the middle of his rich long hair. "Go after the witch? Or stay here?"

"I don't know," Alvender admitted, not really taking the time to figure out who it was, whoever it was it made Alicia's face light up like a candle.

"Then stay here. Your friend is dead either way. A mage that powerful, it really doesn't matter how far she is from the child, she can still kill her with a single thought now," the man said gruffly as he placed a clawed, scaly, hand on Alvender's shoulder.

Then it hit Alvender, he knew who this mysterious man was. Red-hair, black strip, matured, deep voice, wisdom beyond what he looked like he should know at the age the man looked. "Or we can bring her back," Alvender said, indicating the we as the man and himself.

"My thoughts exactly," the man agreed as he took two steps towards Alicia and said, "Thank you."

"No problem, Quasak," Alicia said, her voice light and hopeful. Alvender's heart warmed at the name...it was, in fact...his dragon...

"What are you waiting for?" the dragon asked.

"Agatha!" Alvender yelled out to the red hair girl. "Show yourself witch!"

While Alvender was calling the witch out, Quasak transformed, his hands and arms growing large scales, and growing considerably. He quickly turned into a deep red scaled dragon, with a solid black stripe running along his spine and the way to his tail.

Lucas watched the transformation wide-eyed. He nearly dropped Skye, but held on fast. Her breathing was still present, ever so slightly, her lashes resting peacefully on her pale cheeks.

Inside her mind, Skye was clinging to her fleeting thoughts, her life slipping through the hands of her minds eye. And suddenly, before her, was a very familiar presence, filling her steadily weakening body with strength.

"Yukiko," she spoke to the dragon through their link. She felt her spirit tremble. "I'm...I'm scared. I feel like I'm loosing you...but if you hang on, you'll die too..."

"I do not wish to exist without you," the dragon told her simply.

"I don't want you to die...the witch is attacking me...let go Yukiko," she told the dragon firmly, though her voice quivered. She faultered only for a moment, but used the last of her energy to sever the link. "Take care of Alvender."

Yukiko's eyes snapped open, her body tensing from its slackened state. The dragon leapt onto Skye in alarm, squeaking and squealing with anguish. She looked desperately from one person to the next in the room, and from her perch on Skye's chest, felt her chest cavity depress.

It did not expand again.

Lucas cursed again and looked desperately at Alvender and the dragon.

"She's gone," he said to them quietly.

"No, she's not," Quasak explained lightly, as Alvender rushed to Skye's side, looking her over trying to find some way to bring her back to life. "The witch wants Alvender. It's evident she isn't going to be able to force him. Killing someone he loves isn't either, she knows that for sure. Getting him angry will put her at the wrong end of Alvender's sword, the end that's slipped inbetween her ribs."

Alvender, on the other hand, doubted what the ever-so-wise Quasak had to say. Alvender now had Skye in his arms, cradling her, tears streaking freely down his face; one by one, the tears landed on Skye's own cheek. There was nothing he could do...nothing...

A sudden rage, a sense of revenge came over Alvender as he laid Skye gentle on the floor and crossed her hands over her chest. Agatha would pay for what she did, that he was sure. Although it would bring Skye back to life, it would certainly help his soul rest in peace, knowing justice would be done.

"AGATHA!" Alvender roared over his dragon's babblings. "If you want me, if this is why you killed Skye, to get me to come with you. Then COME and get me," Alvender challenged as his swords flashed in his hands, an angry hew of sapphire burning around the edges of both blades, and in his eyes. By his side, Alicia also had her rapiers out, although not magical like Alvender's were. "Cause if you DON'T...I'll come after YOU!" Alvender added boldly as he twirled his scimitars around. As his rage burned on, ever brightening by the second, tears came down equally fast. His eyes became distant again, his posture tense, and his mind completely blank, he was trying to defend himself from the hurt and the pain, he didn't want to feel anymore pain. He was through with feeling pain, never again. It all had to end here and now.

The ring she wore began to filter what little life energy he could give into her. Alvender didn't know if it would help, but he had to give it a try, anything...anything he could do to help Skye...no matter how futile...

Alvender's tears streaking down her face, the life force within the ring coupled with Yukiko's own efforts...

A gasp of air, as if held under water too long, came from Skye's once-motionless body. She coughed, sucking air into her lungs, feeling her eyes peel open with the effort. Her body tensed, every muscle, as if it would never flex again. Yukiko gave a yelp and backed away.

The fog in her indigo eyes cleared with a few more gulps of air. Too weak to move, she settled for resting her eyes on Alvender, and tried to give him a weak smile. Yukiko was nestled by her side, reconnecting their minds. Lucas knelt nearby, a look of immense relief on his face.

"Alvender?" she squeaked weakly, turning her head to look at him more clearly. Her voice was thin and fragile. "What...?"

Alvender felt a huge relief come over him as he watched Skye come back from the death. he stood there motionless, he didn't know if this was some sick trick of Agatha's, or if Skye was really alive. Looking over at Alicia, she nodded, sharing his concern. She twirled her rapiers, as a sign that she had his back, and would stop the witch if anything happened.

Dropping his scimitars to the ground, Alvender rushed over to Skye. He realized this could be a trap, this could bring him to his own depise. Yet if this was in fact Skye, then he wasn't going to let any suspicion stand in his way. Taking Skye up in his own arms, he spun around and smiled gently at Skye. Alvender also realized, if Agatha had given him what he wanted, then she'd be back for him, next time to take him...and not Skye.

"How about we get out of here?" Alvender suggested trying to keep himself from crying like a baby, onto the already weakened Skye.

"Yes," Skye agreed with a small nod. Her strength was slowly returning. Yukiko had taken it upon herself to wrap herself around Alvender's shoulders, watching Skye closely. The dragon was practically shaking from the shock and was not about to let Skye out of her sight again.

Feeling tired still, Skye snuggled up into Alvender's arms, the color slowly returning to her face. She rested there, contented, and truthfully unable to do much else.

Turning around, Alvender found Quasak in his human form talking to Alicia, and didn't bother seeing what Lucas was doing. "Alright," Alvender said carrying Skye out of the gloom underlevels.

"It's almost time for dinner..." Alvender noticed, to tell the truth he really didn't know how long he had stayed down there, all he knew is that he was glad to be away.

'You have proven yourself. I give you your reward...goodbye son...' his mother said, as her soul was released from it's cell. If it weren't for the fact he was already smiling to cheer Skye up, he'd be smiling at the fact that his mother's soul could now rest in peace knowing that her son was alive and doing well. But what did she mean by reward? He didn't feel any different.

Setting Skye down on a bench, he sat down with her so she could lean on him for support. "But we still have awhile," Alvender said still keeping up his smile, finding it was easier and easier to keep it now that they were out of danger. "Let's hope we never see her again."

"Agreed," Skye said, nodding. She was still trying to get over what had happened to her after she had broken her link with Yukiko. She kept it to herself, thinking everyone would think her crazy if she shared the experience. She leaned against Alvender, feeling her energy slowly returning. The link between herself and Yukiko was slowly rebuilding, but it was a comfort nonetheless.

It was a relief to be sitting there, to be still for just a little while, unburdened by the chaos that had seemed to swallow them. Yukiko crawled onto Skye's lap, curling much as a cat does, and resting happily. Skye looked over at Alvender.

"Thanks," she said to him softly.

"SKYE!, ALEVANDER!" Sun Xeng called running towards them. He look ed at them in concern when he arrived.
"I sensed that something was happening to you guys." He said looking afraid holding onto his rapier.

Too tired and weak to put up much of an effort, Skye settled for shooting him a rather bored glance.

"Well, I died," she said with a raised eyebrow. "But the danger's gone for now at least, so don't worry."

She held her staff close to her for support, as well as leaning on Alvender. She wished her strength would return...she hated being vulnerable more than anything.

"hmmmm i might be able to get you some strength." Sun said smiling.
"Lets all go into the academy to my room and i'll give you some of my strength if you want" He said happily sitting down next to her and Alevander
