History: Charlie was born on an orchard not from from Olivine to a family of determined farmers, Johanna and Thomas Brown. They were very traditional people in a region that was slowly advancing, but they didn't mind. Charlie's parents were simple people, content with tending the orchard, hoping for good harvests, and enjoying the good life. Someone had to supply the fruit from the supermarkets after all.
Charlie grew up being the olderst of two siblings, an unruly brother two years a younger than her and a quiet sister seven years her junior. Somehow it was an unspoken given that Charlie, who adored her life outside in the sun, would be the one to inherit the farm, and her brother, the untamable Joshua, would be the rebel to fly the nest. No one was sure what to make of little Sybil yet, who preferred to read and stay in her own little world.
Charlie went to school at a small country school, emphasis on small. All grades attended the same school, and there was only one class per grade. The whole thing was church-owned, although Charlie's family wasn't Christian, she and her siblings only went there because Olivine's schools were just too far away to regularly attend, and Neither Johanna or Thomas thought they'd be very good at homeschooling. It was through one of the teachers at the school that Charlie found out about the Whirl Cup.
In and around the school there were always Pokémon present, being in the countryside, and Charlie was the type to prefer the company of the creatures above the company of her fellow teens. It wasn't that she didn't get along with other teenagers, but she was the type who didn't belong to any clique. Sure people generally kind of liked her, but she was too much with her head in the clouds for most of them to understand her.
It was through these small lunches shared with the occasional Pidgey or Wingull that she caught the attion of Mr. Harper, the school's mathematics, science and English teacher. He didn't see much in her, it wasn't like he could see her as a future champion or a great trainer, what he saw was Potential. He wasn't a countryperson himself, only teaching at the school due to the ties with his faith, and when he saw Potential in the girl, he also saw a way to get her out of the country life and into the world. He spoke to Charlie about it, who after some coaxing agreed to try. He personally had connections with someone in the Whirl Cup board, and although this person couldn't promise anything, he did pay Charlie's application a bit more heed than those of others.
Personality: Charlie is a simple-minded girl. She's none too smart, and was never very interested in studying either. Really, most of the time she'll be distracted by something or other. She's got a bit of a lack of common sense, and she's unbelievable gullible. Really you could make her believe most anything if you wanted to. However she's not entirely stupid. She's thick, yes, but she does have a bit of a brain. She's a quick learner though, and has a good memory. She also seems to have a bit of a natural talent for dealings with Pokémon, something she picked up from interacting with the many Pokémon her parents used on their farm. Charlie is also quite energetic. She can come off as quite annoying, simply because she doesn't always realize that what she's doing isn't appreciated by the other party.
She can be a bit blunt, simply because she doesn't think when she says things. She doesn't think before doing things either, being a bit of a loose cannon at times. She's definitely more of the afterthought than the forethought. She means wel though, she always means well, but it just doesn't always end well. This is also the reason why she's always hurt somehow, be it a scraped knee or a bruised arm. The combination of ditzy, impulsive and straw-headed tends to lead to accidents. Charlie doesn't mind though, she's used to it by now.
Appearance: harlie isn't a very tall girl, standing at around 1.65 meters, but she's strong and fit. Years of farmwork in the sun have given her strong arms and a healthy tan, as well as freckles all over her face, shoulders and arms. She has very curly and unruly hair the colour of straw that is about chest-length. She usually keeps it in two braids over her shoulders or in any way tied up. She also has a light fringe, a few straight-cut strand above her eyebrows. Her eyes are a deep brown and very expressive, mostly because she has a hard time keeping her emotions from her face. That face itself is round, with rather red cheecks and a mouth usually set in a big smile. To finish it off Charlie has dimples in both cheeks that come out to their full glory when she smiles.
Charlie dresses like you'd probably expect a country-girl too. She's got a red-and-white plaid blouse with the sleeves permanently pushed up to her elbows. when it's really warm she'll tie the bottom of the blouse up to expose some belly, not being very prude about showing skin. Underneath she wears grey-denim short that show some wear with a big belt. On her feet are a pair of brown leather cowboy boots and on her head is a brown and white cowboy hat. Her bag is a white backpack with many pockets for conveniency. Charlie doesn't really wear any jewelry besides a simple watch on her left wrist and a necklace with the sign of Taurus on it, which is her starsign. There's also a good chance that you'll catch her with a bandage or bandaid somewhere, she's a tendency of getting herself hurt.
Starter Species: Chikorita
Nickname: Sheva
RP Sample: Charlie was sitting on the grass outside the small school building, enjoying a nice strawberry jam sandwich in the sun when she saw Mr. Harper walk toward her, an envelope in his hands. She immediately stood up, knowing what the letter was. They had decided to send the application letter from the school, addressed by both Charlie and Mr. Harper and sent directly to the teacher's old friend who happened to work for the committee. And now he was walking toward her, waving the envelope in the air.
"Guess what came in the mail today!" He said with a big smile and handed Charlie the letter. It was unopened and addressed to Charlotte Joanne Brown. Her.
"Wait," Charlie said, holding the envelope as if it might burn her. "What if it's a rejection?"
"If it's a rejection then you know you tried," Mr. Harper told her with a smile. Charlie nodded gravely and slowly attempted to open the envelope. After a few seconds of carefully trying to pry it open she simply took a corner and ripped it open savagely, impatient to read the words that would surely be a disappointment.
Dear Miss Brown,
I will let you know that the Whirl Cup Committee has approved your application to join the Whirl Cup. I would be pleased to see you on the appointed date to receive your Pokémon and begin your journey. More information is disclosed and that I may see you soon.
Sincerely,
Professor Woods.
Charlie was speechless for a moment, blinking at the pages. Mr. Harper, who had been reading along over her shoulder, clapped her on the shoulder. "Congratulations Charlie, you made it!"
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Charlie exclaimed, hugging a stunned Mr. Harper. She disengaged, "I've got you to thank for this opportunity Mr. Harper, thank you so much!"
"You're quite welcome dear, now run on home and tell your parents, I will excuse you from class this afternoon." Charlie nodded in reply and quickly ran for her bicycle to rush home. Her parents would be ecstatic themselves, having been wholly supportive of their daughter's sudden desire to take part in Pokémon training. Yes it was finally happening, just what she'd been waiting for! Now the only trouble was waiting until it was time, Charlie wasn't the patient sort…
