    which sets are getting banned?
    I've heard that
1:R&S, sandstorm and dragon are getting ban
    2:everything before HL
    3: everything before TRR

    are any of these true?

The most reliable one I've been hearing is everything before FR/LG. I hope it's wrong, though, because I want to keep Hidden Legends.

Why are they being banned? Do you mean banned as in recalled or banned as in discontinued?

Banned as in Discontinued I believe. It's all part of a new Modified or Limited Format.

Probably thy'll make the sets again in the HL format (I think...)!!!!!!!!!
I doubt it, it'd be a real waste of paper, lol.

Banned is NOT discontinued. Banned is simply that it is not allowed in Modified format, which is the format for Premier level tournaments.

It is pretty definate that RS, SS, and DR will all be rotated out after Worlds, and that FRLG and all sets since will NOT be rotated out then. TATM and HL are up in the air, but I think that it will be FRLG on as the next format.

ah, thanks for the help, there's to many rumours where I live

Thats a shame since some of the cards in Eidolon Forest (newest Japanse set) has a lot of cool cards that would combo with HL cards. If HL gets banned, then those stategies are worthless. But the Reaction Energy thing seems to be getting popular. It's still unexpected as to what may happen. We have to wait and see.

Vincent (/Vincent0906) Pokemon Card professor under PCL
said that its everything before FRLG in US version, immediately AFTER World Champion.
    OR
For Japanese version, ADV and ALL BEFORE ADV is banned, from year 2006 onwards.

    ---------------------------------------------
Generally, US bans ONE SERIES, after every World Championship tournament, in other words, ONE SERIES every year.

Fact: RS, SS, and DR are getting banned from Modified after Worlds.

Rumor: TATM is getting banned from Modified after Worlds.
Rumor: HL and TATM are getting banned from MOdified after Worlds.

My interpretation: I'd love to see HL sticking around for the next format, mostly b/c of Steven's Advise. If they DO ban HL, I can see where they're coming from, but I won't like it that much (altho, RocLoc will be a trash deck...).

vincent0906 of PokeGym said that Hidden Legends is to be banned after World Championship.
That means, any tournaments after World Championship does not allowing players using anything before FRLG

So if the ban kicks in, it means the cards will be... gone? No longer available through normal means?

And why are there different formats? What's the difference? Sorry for asking these questions, but I'm a bit "out of touch" with the T.C.G. for a few years now.

Well, you can still buy them, look at them, and play with them.

It is just that you can't use them in tournaments or Championships.

Not a lot of people attend these events anyway...

Better retract that statement. Just got word from several VERY reliable sources (including WPM) that the US Nationals this weekend has over 400 players in it. Also, with over $10,000 at stake at US Nationals and Worlds seperately, you can bet on some pretty stiff competition.

As far as Vincent goes, I take his spoilers to be fact, but I have heard from both Mike L and Dave S (I can't HOPE to spell their last names), both of whom are big bosses within PUI, that they are seriously considering either TATM-on or HL-on. Read the Pokegym (in sig) for more info on that.

About the older cards, they aren't going to be out of production, well, the Nintendo sets at least. The reason for the format shifts is to keep selling cards and to keep the metagame live. Mostly to keep selling cards.

That's true. My Wal-Mart has the old [and new] Pokemon cards sold by LEGENDS.(the brand name)

But if you actually check the japanese system, HL is certainly the last series of ADV
    FRLG onwards is PCG.
Japan is talking about banning ADV and before by 2006.
And USA should be banning same sets, but right after World Championships.

It would be really awkward if USA and Japan didn't ban the same sets.
At least, there are Japanese players in World Championships.
