Thinking about playing again

instead of copyin a deck someone else built, come up with your own idea instead of bein a pathetic wannabe.

theres a name for people like you: netdecker

their highly frowned upon in the gaming community, well to any real player at least, only netdeckers look up to other netdeckers.

if you want to copy others, no matter how pathetic it is, go ahead i cant stop you, i just wanted to warn you that its pretty lame& frowned upon.

Hey. They aren't nearly as frowned upon in my area, or, for that matter, the Pokemon TCG. Most of the people in my area do online research to figure out what they will have to counter. Think before you hate on netdeckers - they're more abundant than you think. Most people whom are "net-deckers" tend to be those who can't afford to go out and buy booster packs for the sake of buying booster packs. They have to carefully choose what cards they want.

Umm have you ever heard of LuxChomp? Thought so.
Using a well-known and well-researched deck is an excellent way to learn how to play the game and develop strategy. You need to be very familiar with the game mechanics before you can start building functional rogue decks, and for someone who is just picking up the game again, it would be really difficult for them to build a rogue deck that can stand up to staple decks.
Aside from that, staple decks that everyone know (what you refer to as "netdecking") are totally legitimate. Did everyone who plays LuxChomp come up with it themselves? No. But, it takes a different kind of skill to be able to take a deck and make it better, and to be able to come up with new strategies for it. Staple decks are a core part of the metagame, you can't remove them or force everyone to play rogue.
Furthermore, you are a troll. Trolling is not the way to convey an opinion; it's just rude.

While I respect that opinion, I'd respect it more if you didn't use a yugioh-related avatar :P I'm no expert on the Pokemon TCG scene (how I wish I had people to play with :'( ), but from my days of playing yu-gi-oh competevly, I gotta say that they got the biggest netdecking scene. And I've played magic and WoW aswell.

With all that aside, let us stop flaming this poor fellah and let's return to the topic at hand.

And I begin by hijacking this thread, as I too want to return to the Pokemon TCG, and will hopefully do so when I move to the bigger city of London :P Does anyone know of any LGS's there that holds tournies etc? Thanks in advance : D

1) You can netdeck and find many great decks out there but those decks tend to be in demand and might be a little more costly. The cheapest way is to just try to find your style of play and create your own deck, a rogue.
2) In Pokemon tournaments, ages tend to vary from juniors to masters.
3) There are rarely any cards in Pokemon that are overpriced, but at the moment there is one exception, which is the mighty Luxray Gl Lv X which is going for $60-$80.
4) You should purchase a starter deck to have something going, then from that onward just buy booster packs or singles to modify your deck.

Thing is that you have to know what type of Pokemon you want to make buying a theme deck worth your money. Really the only reason to buy them is that each tends to have a few good trainers/supporters and has ample energy.

I really think rogue decks are the most difficult kinds of decks to build as a beginner, just because you need to have a great knowlege of the modified cards and what they do. Staple decks are the easiest to start with, because you have a decklist and a strategy available to study. They aren't necessarily expensive, unless you want to start with jumpluff or luxchomp, which are really expensive. Netdecking doesn't offer an instant guaranteed deck, though; you'd have to practice with it and modify it for the metagame in your area. After you've played more and seen a variety of cards, then you'll know which ones you like best and which deck you're most interested in playing.

Instead of making an entire thread for just one question, I'm going to hijack this one again. Or actually, 2 questions.

Will the cards from Platinum Arceues be usable once the set's are "rotated"? I heard that this will be the only platinum set to still be legal.

And also, if a pokemon has a "smaller name" next to it'sown name, such as "Burmy: sandy cloak", Does that count as a different pokemon than "Bumry: Trash cloak"? As in, can I have 4 trash cloaks and 4 sandy cloaks, or can I only have 4 "burmy" all together, even if they got theese different "small names"?

Thanks for any answers :)

The common speculation is that only sets with Diamond and Pearl in their names will be rotated out. I'd certainly hope that Arceus isn't going to be the only legal Platinum set. That would make for a boring metagame, with nearly everyone running Jumpluff or Donphan. I don't know where you heard that rumor.

And, for that, I think each one is its own, but I'd go ask at PokeGym or PokeBeach, or another site that has a large concentration of Pokemon Professors for the TCG, since I'm really unsure myself on that.

POP tends to take out 4 sets every rotation. They did not take any sets out the previous year so this year, expect a double wammy.
After rotations, they will take out DP-SF, i'm about 99% sure on this. They might take out PL since it is the 8th set since DP, but that will crush the Gl engine so they might not.
I'm expecting the next format to be PL-on, but no one knows for sure until it actually happens.

And for the Burmy, the small text is not considered as their "name". You can only use 4 "Burmy" all together, same rule applies for Deoxys' and his forms.

It's hard to believe they would rotate Platinum, it would render SP decks absolutely useless and like Donavannj was saying, there are only a couple of deck options within the HGSS and Unleashed sets. I think even jumpluff would stop seeing play because it is used with luxray, and how can you run luxray without poketurn, powerspray, and all those other SP techs? Shaymin would get rotated as well, which would also hurt the jumpluff deck, as would broken time-space. Until they release a few more sets to fill out the new format, I don't think they can afford to get rid of platinum. I'm surprised and annoyed that they still havn't officially announced what will get rotated, though. I want to know which sets I shouldn't be buying!

I differ, If the Sp's were taken out, there would be a much more variety in the metagame due to the rise of many tier 2 decks and Rogues.

Lanturn Prime, Feraligatr Prime, Blastoise, Kingdra Prime etc. would see more play. And by this time A new set will also be out.

But I still highly doubt that next format would be AR-on

Those decks would see more play, but only out of necessity. I mean, who would ever want to run feraligatr prime, except as a tech? As much as I'm against the idea of a single card ruling the metagame (luxray), it would be a shame to see all of those decks go so soon.

And 'Gatr really only works well in combo with the Unleashed Blastoise, which I think combos better as an alternate Blastoise for BlastCatty.
lol ..i use that combo i works really good with Floatzel Politoed
from unleaed too
