This is a speech I had to write for a contest, please do not reuse this because it is MY work. Anyways, I wanted a few opinions on it so here goes.

?Thinking, Working, and Expecting the Best?

?If you want to see something done, just tell some human beings it

can't be done. Make it known that it's impossible to fly to the moon, or run

100 meters in 9.9 seconds, or solve Fermat's Last Theorem. Remind the world

that no one has ever hit 62 home runs in a season or stuffed 18 people into a

Volkswagen. Dangle the undoable in front of the world. Then, consider it

done.? Stated by a Merrill Lynch advertisement. And to be quite blunt, this is

pretty honest. Humanity has a fetish with taking things into their own

hands. Just look at the Wright brothers! Those two were ridiculed for their

propositions that with a proper craft, one might be able to fly. Now,

whenever a North Carolina license plate is made, the words ?Birthplace of

Aviation? are depicted with an illustration of these airborne siblings and their

    famous airplane.

Leaf through the Book of World Records; one will find hundreds of

accounts of people who defied the rules and did something incredible. There

are millions more of these sorts of individuals whom are making things

happen. They are the ?rogues? of our time. Though rogue traditionally

means a scoundrel, it can also be used as a synonym for rule breaker. These

citizens are going above and beyond the rules set, expecting more than the

best of themselves! However, may there be hundreds of thousands of

amazing persons, there will always be the? ?Slackers.?

If one were to take a census in an average middle school, he would

find many of the pupils have short attention spans and ignore their teachers?

lessons. This is utterly depressing when one thinks about the challenges our

citizens will have to face from religious, or political wars, to fear from

terrorism, our world is dependent on the youthful population. A youth that

thwarts his success rates, succumbing to the fate of that stereotypical high

school dropout that never gets a real job, other than working in a

McDonald?s. It?s the sad truth that we all must admit is happening around

us. Though, there are the precious few that are prepping themselves, taking

time in their schoolwork, and setting high standards of living for themselves.

Yet the students who are focused are taking the gift of education and are

utilizing it more than any other generation before them.

They are the special individuals that are going to be the leaders of

our world. The ones who are making the plans for another Space Race and

the ones who are compiling blueprints for more ways to define the laws of

science. And they will not get by with simply mediocre grades and a bad

work ethic. This is a time where education matters in the heavenly bodies of

politics, art, philosophy, everything. You name it, it requires knowledge.

?If we work upon marble, it will perish; if we work upon brass, time

will efface it; if we rear temples, they will crumble into dust; but if we work

upon immortal minds and instill into them just principles, we are then

engraving that upon tablets which no time will efface, but will brighten and

brighten to all eternity.? Stated Daniel Webster. Education is the surface of

our society, and without we are nothing. So it is only the hope of our

communities that our children, teens, even adults, all are thinking, working

and expecting the best in their grades, lives, and selves.

    Thank you...

    Awww, thank you! I really appreciate it! n_n I just hope I can deliver the speech well enough to place. Uggg... Well, I'll keep you posted. I give the speech next Thursday morning in the back of a Perkins restruant, lol. ^^;;;

*reads the essay....and rubs his eyes*
    Wow.....
    *reads it again*
    Wow.....
I'm extremely impressed by your paper! It's fantastic!
The only thing that I'm more impressed by is your incredible talent! You use such a large amount of high vocabulary! If I didn't know any better, I'd say you got help from a professional speech-maker!
You write so maturely, and you defenitely get your point across!
I'm just disappointed that your wonderful speech will be confined to the back of a Perkins restaurant, when it deserves so much more recognition! You deserve the recognition!

Thanks! n.n I had an iota of help from Rodale's Synonym Finder on words like "population" and "world." I kind of overused them. Heheh. ^^;;; Thanks... Again. Perhaps I ought to post more of my writing... ^^

I write poetry, essays, speeches, stories... Everything, basically. Here's an essay I did for a Wordsmith competition. Once again, no stealing!

    Paint & People

The bathroom of our house is rather small in size and very narrow, tiled with crimson ceramic plates and molded fillings. The bright yellow color that was painted on the walls after my family moved in has now faded but is still glossy, as if a fresh coat of paint had been laid earlier in the day. After hours, the lights are dimmed our turned off, leaving only a chosen few to illuminate the corners of our living quarters. But in the lavatory, a single lamp is left on, dim but lit, leaving the modernized bathroom darker than most places.

Oddly enough I find it calming here at night. Everbody's asleep as I prowl around the house in my ducky print pajama bottoms and purple tie-dye tee shirt, abusing patterns. Creeping into the washroom, I am able to sit on the ledge of the tub and watch a face in the medicine cabinent mirror, my face. Yes, yes, I know it sounds conceited that I choose to stare at myself, but there's a lot more to this examination. Seeing the oval shape and peachy flesh, I view myself in a different way than usual.

This young woman, who appears as a reflection, thinks to herself: God, I have changed so much. From when I was a short, small, and blue-eyed, I have matured. No longer tiny in size, the little bitty "pipsqueak" I once was, I've grown, as I still do. I have she the skins of childhood, trading them for one of adolescence, and I then advance into adulthood. Through these midnight excursions to perch on the rim of the bathtub, the progression of life has been noted, just like the coloring on the plaster walls.

Growing up is like... making a glass of lemonade. At first you start out with a pitcher of water, but gradually, as you mix the sweet and sugary lemon scented flavoring with the clear liquid, the mixture is transfigured into a yellowish haze of fluid chock-full of visible particles. A childish juvenile ages into the life of a youth, witty and rebellious, yet still a kid, and then advances on toward the eighteen-and-over stature of a grown-up. A youngster's still a child until he is no longer a minor, like the water is still water until the lemon powder is completely combined. Over the years both the pastel pigment and I have and will continue to ripen, living every day. Each morning, as the golden rays of sunlight hit the inner walls of our cluttered and dusty household, the chipping paint fades. The walls are host to faint streaks of magenta and cracks that peak through the coats, giving proof that they have taken a bit of a beating over the years. Just like a person, in all of her new grandeur, both paint and people will eventually fade, old in body, but wise in mind.

As I continue to develop in mind and body, many things may change. Whimsical longings and extravagant thoughts are put away because they do not fit into the tight schedule one seems to acquire as she matures. However these desires never whisk themselves away; they stay forever, reminding the cranium that even I once was small, filled with naivety and wonder. Outer appearences will alter as I progress, as will timetables and all that free time I once possessed, but always inside, my soul will always remain a kid.

Whew... I had to re-type that out cos I accidentally deleted it off my computer. @.@
