Third Games~

If you liked the paired games, you'll likely like the third game. Inversely, if you hated the paired games, the third game won't interest you.

I loved Crystal, Emerald, and (at the time at least) Yellow. I never bothered with Platinum. :/

Disagree. I hate Diamond and Pearl, but I love Platinum. And I love Red and Blue, but I don't care much for Yellow (other than the levels being higher).

I personally love third games!
some of them are really improved if you compare them to the original two!
But that still doesn't stop me from playing the first two too!

I like third games. They expand on the first two to make one really good game.

However I HATE the basic idea of the third games, and this crap Nintendo and Game Freak (Not sure who's to blame here) have been pulling for all these years. Why, why, why do you have to release the same game three times? What's wrong with making one? Money, of course.

The whole idea of Pokemon has always been to beat gyms and catch Pokemon, easy right? Wrong! If you actually want a certain Pokemon or complete your Pokedex you have to go out and make sure you get the right game. But half the time the Pokemon you want are in two different games. The biggest difference in the two being one legendary (except Ruby and Sapphire, which I applaud for actually being different.) All they want to do is make you spend $120 on the same game. It isn't even fun because now you have to progress through the exact same game two times in a row.

Then what do they do a few months to a year later? Release a game that has all the Pokemon you want, both legendaries, and in Emralds (Best 3rd game ever!) both teams. And you can't just not get it, the third game is 99% of the time superior and has new features and story elements you just can't pass up. Great now you've spent $180 on slightly altered versions of the same game.

And with that I end my rant. Don't get me wrong, I love Pokemon. I just hate the way they market it. I might as well just wait for the English version of the third B/W game to come out becuase I already know it will be better.

With the advent of online trading you don't exactly need to buy both games to get almost every local Pokémon. And hey, I'm sure with enough bargaining you can even get the mascot legendary out of someone. Even before then the intention was often around having local groups of people who owned various versions who would trade amongst themselves to fill in the gaps of availability.

While that is a good point it doesn't apply to me. For I am a loner without Wi-Fi, lucky me. But more of my point is that I want it all in one game. I find it inconvienient that I have to make a choice between two games just for one or two Pokemon. But whatever, it's Nintendo so they can do whatever they want. Because you know, they own like one third of the world, Disney owning the other two thirds.

Didn't care for Yellow since it stuck me with my least favorite Pokemon

This, so much this.

I tend to not see the point in the third games tbh. Sure, they add new features and what not, but why not just put them in the game to begin with? It is kinda a kick in the crotch when there's a new game which is ever so slightly different but you feel you need to buy JUST because Scizor gets Bullet Punch or completionism or whatever.

Unfortunately, that's not how game development often works.

Besides the fact that you're often given a set release date, and barring very exceptional circumstances, you've got to get the game on shop shelves by that day (Actual development would have wrapped up a month at least before release, to allow for time to finish off the QA, certifying, production and distributing process) you'll often find that the best feedback for said new features and changes made to the game will have come from customers and critics alike who would have only got their hands on the game after production is wrapped up.

Or you might just come up with an idea weeks or months down the line after release that could be implemented into the next version. You might even have these grand ideas and changes during development, but it's simply not in the scope of the project to implement them and still make the release date. (I wouldn't be surprised if something among the lines of HG/SS's following Pokémon feature was simply too late to be put into BW)

ooolala

Yellow:
I didn't get a chance to play this until like 5 or 6 years ago. For me I liked it because it added the color sequence, a great update for me from the red/blue games. The idea of it mimicing the anime was pretty neat. Seeing the "real" Team Rocket made me enjoy the game more. The only thing that I disliked was the refusal to evolve (for obvious reasons) and that you cannot get rid of pikachu so easily, not that I dont enjoy it lol.

Crystal:
Where should I start. Oh mi gee this game is DA bomb. The first time I played it I was so giddy about the opening to the game. The animated sprites were awesome, and the Eusine and Suicune chase had me entertained for awhile. It was an interesting game to play, then later on I found out about the Celebi event for the Jap version and I was extremely angry that it was exculsive the Japan >(

Emerald:
Holy shroomish!!!! Now this right here, yeah this:

goes so hard, to effing hard that it should be called POKEMON THE ROCK VERSION. (bad joke lol). I love the game so much that I played it through 18 times and counting. First of all the wardrobe upgrade. May and Brendans outfits are amazing. Personally I think they paid more attention to Brendan than May. Second, MAGMA AQUA COMBO! I had sapphire and I was so used to the team aqua theme. But then Emerald comes along and adds the mamga theme to it. I was like "oh wow, I didnt know team magma had their own theme" xDD Also the epic battle between Groudon and Kyorge was mindblowing, and that scene where Rayquaza comes in like its a God or something lol. Just epic. Real double battles (which includes those random double battles lol). Gym leader rematches, and OH! The battle frontier!! So many words to decribe that place!! Emerald was just awesome for me :3

Platinum:
woot woot!!! When I played through Diamond a couple of times I never noticed the many flaws it had. Frankly I didnt care. But when I played Platinum I had like a completely different feeling to it. First of all, again THE OUTFITS!! I like how they went with the seasonal thing (wait hold up, seasons? Black and White anybody?) Back onto topic....I liked how they sped up the surf feature (although I had to go back to Diamond and see that it was THAT slow lol)The new sprites were awesome, I espically love Infernapes new pose for platinum

so beast.
Also Platinum seemed to make Team Galatic more evil than Diamond and Pearl did. Cyrus really has no heart :P The deminisional rift or reverse world, whatever it is called was a trip for me. It took me quite awhile to navigate through there. And Giratinas sprite was beastly, and its custom battle music was even more beastlier (not a word). I love how they brought back the Gym battle rematches and the Battle frontier back from emerald. It made me felt right at home :]
