I've noticed something is wrong with Pokemon fans: they have a severe case of this: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NostalgiaFilter

Tell me, why is everyone so changephobic. I know, I made that word up, but shush, it's not about whether I made a new term or not.
Why must we always bash on something that has changed? Personally, I liked the split of attacks to physical and special, regardless of type. Most of the time, it's an improvement to the Pokemon. Sneasel is an example; a decent Pokemon that was rendered nearly useless due to Ice and Dark being special.

And the Poketch? There's some bad apps, I admit. But overall, it was useful as you eventually add good apps. There may be more I may rant on, but people will say TL;DR. Such is the nature of people and the internet.

Sometimes, people need to realize not everything new is bad. If it bothers you so much, don't play the games, and hush up. Either that, or complain to Game Freak/Nintendo/whoever.

Could you please explain the topic of this thread properly? Because I can't really discern whether you are saying that we should close this board because it's outdated and just for nostalgia purposes, you are saying that posting here is bad or you just want to start a discussion about nostalgia... In the first two cases, I should close this, and, in the last one, you should probably rewrite the first post.

I agree. Personally, I don't think any one region is better than the others. They all have their moments...

While generation 2 is my personal favorite. I have no real problems with the sinnoh games, in fact generation 4 is actually what got me back into pokemon after burning out during Gen 3, which I just thought was kind of meh, not terrible, but not exactly great either.

Whilst Generation two is my favourite, My preferences are mixed.

Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh and Kanto, in that order.

Plus, I'd rather a device that encompasses all of the features from the PokeGear, PokeNav and Poketch...

I want a Clock, Map, Radio, Phone, Condition, Ribbons, Trainers Eyes icon in the Phone so I can keep track of who I can rematch without waiting for annoying calls or having to phone them all the time. AND Apps.
One device, lots of features. FUN FUN FUN!!

The reason I prefer the other 3 regions' stories to Kanto is the fact that Kanto doesn't have a story behind its games.
Johto had Lugia's Story, Ho-Oh's Story and Suicune's story, along with the other two dogs being related to Suicune and Ho-Oh related to the dogs.
Not to mention Celebi's time travelling.

Hoenn had the Regis, Latias and Latios, Groudon and Kyogre, Rayquaza, Jirachi and Deoxys.

Sinnoh had the Lake Trio, Dialga and Palkia, Giratina, Manaphy, Darkrai and Arceus.

All of them had some sort of in-depth story to them.

The most we got from Kanto was a vague book about Mewtwo's birth and the ability to capture him, learning he came from Mew.
Mew comes as an event, with no story mission behind it.
The birds can just be found.
Not enough of Kanto's history is focused upon.

Having said that, I'm not afraid of change.
I'm diligently awaiting Black and White, not to see if I'll like it, but because I know I'll love it.
I might love it less than the other four, I might love it more.
But I know I'll love it, and I'm not talking aesthetics such as 3D graphics, I'm talking story and Pokemon.

Computer entertainment should be... you guessed it — entertaining. I find simple games fill their entertainment role and adding complexity to a once simple game, needless to say, removes that aspect, thus aggrivating some part of the fanbase.

Basically people want to feel self important because they bought a sequel and they want to feel exactly the same feeling they did before when they bought the original. However that feeling inevitably doesn't occur and they become very nitpicky about anything at all that is different.

It happens quite a lot in a video game series. I believe it's a big reason most games would do better if they were stand alone rather then tailored to be sequels.

Why must we always bash on something that has changed?
Because the original is always better. XP The original is like a first instinct, whereas a change or re-do is sort of like a 2nd instinct, and one of the rules of life I've always lived by is to follow your first instinct, no matter what. Now you shouldn't always follow your first instinct, but I do. <_< However, most of the time your first instinct is correct; most of the time the original is better.

I understand what you are saying, but I don't see why this is a problem. I mean, most of the time when people bash the remakes, it's because they would rather play the old ones, than the remakes, why they do it, well, you covered that, Nostalgia. I am somewhat fond of the remakes, but, I don't like them as much as the originals. But I wouldn't bash on them, mainly because, they're remakes. They are technically the same.

People should not stay in the past :)
Thankyou for saying that. People need to look towards the future or else they will be trapped in their own little world forever. Theres some a lot of people who still thinks that GSCRBY are a thousand times better than the new ones. They fail to accept the fact that times have changed.

Well that's a bit harsh on us fans of Gen II don't you think?

Listen, I don't have a problem with change as long as it's not crappy change. I mean really? Tangrowth? Lickililly? You got to admit those Pokemon were squeezed out of the maker's brains at the last minute.

There are things I LOVE about new games. The new regions with inspiration from Japan. The new GTS is uber. Double battles are superb. The graphics of Heart Gold made my eyeballs explode with joy. I like change, but not some of these new Pokemon. They're what get me. As long as the Pokemon are fresh, and the Colors are more Pastel (God it felt like the trees were plastic in Hoenn) then I like it.

I still have Gen II as my favorite, SO WHAT? It doesn't mean I'm going to destroy all other versions! It's no big deal and you shouldn't have made it one. Thank you for your time reading this.

    With all regards,

I've always thought the gameplay has only improved over time, especially with things like the Physical/Special split and whatnot. But, most of the other things have gotten worse in my opinion: world design, Pokemon design and storyline (not that Pokemon ever had a really great one).

There's nothing wrong with liking the originals more. Everyone has their preferences: some like Generation 1, some like Generation 4.

Me personally, I like generation III the best. Though I have come to terms with the fact that, based on gameplay mechanics, amount of Pokemon, storyline, and graphics, generation IV is the best by far.

You're lame for judging pokemon gens by their story.
