    [PokeCommunity.com] This Year, I did...

Since we're all celebrating the arrival of 2025, I thought it'd be fun for me to go back and look at the new year's resolutions I set for myself and see how I did, or if I made any progress with them! I thought I'd make it a thread so that if anybody else has the resolutions they set for themselves last year we could go over them together!

At the end of 2023, in this post, I made my resolutions! Summed up, they were:
    • To simply get through the year,
which I've done! I'm thankfully still here.
    • To be kinder to myself,
which is something I can't really quantify, but I feel like I've done a good job at. I think I was able to ground my thoughts and calm myself down easier than last year, and there are definitely some things I've relied on telling myself, things like "it's okay to feel overwhelmed" that can help.
    • To continue being passionate and voice that more often, more clearly,
and writing a new article for my blog this year was a big accomplishment towards that! I think between feeling like I could finally structure an entire article and release it out for people to see, as well as having an AMA thread where I feel I went in-depth on things I liked talking about, I did the best at this one out of any.
    • To be able to talk to my dad more, especially about Love Live,
which I also did! We've had a few conversations about it, which was definitely helped by being able to visit him and with a lot more news about Love Live over this past year.
    • To make a gaming journal,
which I just wrapped yesterday, my thoughts on everything I played in the past few months as well as my thoughts on having a gaming journal are here.
    • and to get back into playing the Pokemon TCG
which I also did, though not too much. I attended a regionals for the first time in years, though it was so much bigger than I've ever seen them before, and I wouldn't describe it as a great experience. I actually got so anxious that I unknowingly ended up cheating on the very first hand I played in the tournament, and only realized it after the match was over.

If you made new year's resolutions for 2024, I hope they went well and you were able to work towards them! If you're making new ones for 2025, let's do our best together!

It was a good year for me. I got in person interview experience (even though I didn't land anything, getting to practice that skill is crucial).

I also passed my states ridiculous requirements to get a driver's license. Now I just have to take the test. It was literally a grueling 100+ hour ordeal.

It was a stepping stone year for me. I knew going into 2024 that I wasn't going to get everything out of it that I wanted, but I sowed seeds for it.

Also, going to Europe for the first time was awesome.

I checked back through old threads to see if I made any resolutions and found:

To eat out less, I spent waaaay too much money this year on fast food and snacks. - Dec. 28, 2023

I succeeded at that. 2023 was the year I got my first job, and working at a fast food place it was always tempting to grab a meal for lunch. At that time I also basically didn't have any hobbies or many mandatory expenses outside gas / car insurance, so about 30-50% of any given paycheck was spent on fast food / snacks (the other 50% went into savings). I could definitely do with less junk food (particularly soda), but I cut back a significant amount compared to last year.
