Okay, so, this is what I'm thinking.
It may not be really cool, and it might lag our server, but it might be a neat addition...
...now, let's get to it ! xD

Basically, it's just a small counter telling members how much time has a certain user spent around. Just like RPGs have.

Anyways, as mentioned, it might lag out server. But I just thought it might be nice. (:

Are you suggesting a counter for time spent online during a browsing session, or altogether?

I'd imagine the actual time browsing, it defeats the purpose if it is altogether because you can easily refer to their join date and do some basic calculations...
Sounds like a cool idea, but I'd be afraid to see how much of my life I'm actually spending here. xP

There's a feature on MyBB that logs the total time spent on the forum logged in, I think that's what he means. I'm not sure if vbulletin has this though and it seems like a useless update anyway, who knows it might even put more of a load on the server than it already has.

Well, this could be maintained by some strictly client-side Javascript. Script sets a "timestamp" cookie when you log in. Script on the page checks for it, does a little math and displays time you've been logged in. When you log out, or reopen a tab/window to PC, it restarts the counter. All of this could be detected by Javascript.

Still it would require some thought. We don't want to slow down load times for the forum by adding needless scripts. I agree with the naysayers on this one. It's kind of a pointless little thing you can get by googling an addon or program which can measure that time for you.

I think the only reason this would be useful is so that people could get the "PC IS MY LIFE" emblem easier when they log in and don't log out so that they wrack up hours of being logged in. IMO, it isn't necessary. It would be nice to see how much time I spend here, though ;p.

I've got my username and stuff set to "Remember me" or whatever, but even when I'm basically signed in forever it still "logs out" after fifteen minutes of activity. I guess you could have hours of being logged in, but you'd have to refresh every fifteen minutes. :3

Eh, I don't really want to see how much time I spend here, because I already know it's too much.

I don't think this is a great idea.
I don't really care for how many hours/days/weeks I have been on the site.

It doesn't really benefit the site in anyway except for a cheap thrill for the members, and with the server already struggling at times, would it just add more, pointless strain?

    I agree with the above.

Also, we'll inevitable get a bunch of irritating, server-ruining, planet-killing n00bs who leave themselves perma-logged on in order to rack up their hour count.

I say no. Often people will just go to the Who's Online list to auto-refresh. And besides, it would add some strain to the already hurt server. And besides, there's already a "PC IS MY LIFE" emblem, so why not use that as an award? So, no.
