3rd Gen Today I bought a pirated/fake version of FireRed at GameStop.

Can I see a few pictures? I just want to see the sucky translation.

Are you talking to me? I'm not sure if I can get you pictures, at least not easily. I don't have a digital camera to upload them, so I'm not sure how I would do that.

The translation mostly looks like someone who didn't know English well tried to translate it (or they used a bad online translator). So all the translations are at best awkward an at worst look like people put random words together (some not in English...). All the attack names are different too. "Bump" for Tackle, "Fire" for Quick Attack, Mud Slap is "Conf", Focus Energy is "Air", and so on. For items, "Dehypnot" is Awakening, "Valid" is Super Potion, and "Cheese" is Rare Candy. And names are much shorter, so I know its a Japanese game that someone tried to translate and pass off as English.
An example of text: "Some leaders are doing strange things! What interesting things can't forget!"
Or: "Can use communication station to stay with friends in Shanmu Town!"
Here's what it says when you press start at the menu (Which says Pocket Monsters instead of Pokemon): "read the record! line Can play by yourself."

I didn't have time to find any really bad ones, since my battery is dieing, but I'm sure you get the idea. I'm fairly early on in this one (second badge, I think), but I was much farther before I restarted, and it only got worse.

Sounds like an interesting story DDDSceptile. I'm glad you got Emerald instead. But if you want a really good Manglish/fake game, go look up Pokemon Diamond and Jade. I know it's off-topic, but they're wonderful examples of how desperate pirates can get (then again, botching a cart ranks pretty highly on my list...).

They're poorly translated hacks of 2 Japanese games, Diamond and Jade.

Anyway, thanks. Since when is Cheese a Rare Candy?

I have no idea. :) It made me laugh, but it also shows just how bad the translation was. I have Jade too (I was curious). They're a completley different game. I think that the people who made them just put Pokemon on them to sell them. Its also badly translated, yes, but the attacks and items were completely different, so it was much more a matter of just learning them like you would any other attacks/items in a new game, instead of trying to match the different names with the same attacks. It was interesting, but it wasn't that good, and it was often hard to understand the story and what I was supposed to be doing.

Will it be possible to at least get a video or something like that? I find it really funny. Hey! What is Pikachu named? Mouse? Rtfce? Pikoo? *****?

I don't know how to make a video of it, since its in a cartridge, but I'll see what I can do. As for the Pikachu name, I'm assuming its a shorter version of "Pikachu", probably "Pika", or something, but seeing as I don't have one in the game, I'm not sure.

What's in your PokeDEX? Just asking, because this is a pirated game.

Haha, $30? That's way too much. I saw a $20 one for FireRed/LeafGreen at Wal*Mart over a year ago. I shoplifted it, it was a terrific game. You know, I actually sold the game on ebay after finishing it and selling it for funds for a PSP. Sold it for $22.50 SHIPPED.

The things people on ebay will do....

Well, I don't have a Pikachu entry, but most of the things seem to be *insert 1 or 2 letters here*mon, (Electrike is "ELmon", for instance), others are just weird ("Kathy" for Abra...Cascoon is called "Pink"). Treekco is simply called "Frog", and Minun is called "Maiyi", so I think its a combination of the Japanese names, random English words that sort of pertain to the Pokemon (appearance wise), and gibberish. From that, I'd assume that Pikachu would either be "Pika", or something like "ELrat". All the regular Pokemon are in the Dex (though I'm still early on in the game), so I don't think that its missing any Pokemon, or that any were added, though Carvanha's sprite looks glitched.

Easier said, it's 100% fake. I thought it was a FireRed game that you have... but it's Emerald now that I look at it. So many pirates... I saw ShinyGold in a store that I go to buy games in. I LOL'd at the kid who bought it and it was not ShinyGold, it was a p---- game! I really don't understand pirates.
