TPCi "Pokémon: Black & White Dub General Speculation Thread!

Yes, that is the sexy voice of Ted Lewis you're hearing. I recognise him because of Bakura...:D Anyway, if you check Bulbapedia, Ted Lewis has been voicing Giovanni again since DP080.

And wow, Vic Mignogna as Dento would actually be amazing. Sexy, sexy voice.

Brad Swaile would fit more as N than Dento, I think. Maybe I'm thinking of Death Note too much, but it would be funny if the Japanese and English Light VAs were in Pokemon XD I just didn't like how Light's dub voice was sorta *meant* to sound evil, when his Japanese voice was so soft <3

ZOMG I was even about to tell ADK7 that he had 6 more days until the voice will be heard xD

Eww, I don't like it. What Mew~ said, totally unexpected. I was expecting a Zoey edgy type voice or cutesy Dawn. She sound like a man a little. Let's just hope it's the bad quality sound of the camera. ADK7 will not be happy~

Well honestly, I did say it was unexspected - but It doesn't mean I don't like it.

I was exspecting it to be something a bit more cuter and bold. But this ones soft and enjoyable - perfect match.

It's amazing how we can make such big opinions on such a small amount of words said.

Screw AK47, I lik- no love Iris much more.

Vic Mignogna i'm pretty sure did the English voice acting for Ed Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist
 
I meant like you said, I too didn't expect it. But what do you mean it's cute? I find it slightly scary xD But again, like you said, few words. Maybe the VA just spoke like that for that scene. And the vid is also not the best quality.

I can't wait to hear her say "You're such a child" ^_^

Oh and great, Mew~ likes her also, I'll just stick with Nurse Joy. I'm replacing Brock in that aspect x)

If how they edited the movie on cartoon network is any indication i think the dubs are gonna suck. personally once they changed the voices on ash and brock it went downhill. Dub actors just doesnt care really as far as they know there just doing a kids show. and really are the little kids going to care
 
Well ,the first episodes of each new region are usually heavily edited, so I wouldn't be surprised.
 
I actually don't want to hear Vic Mignogna as Cilan. I'm not even too sure why; Vic's voice just seems too generic for me at this point after hearing him as Edward Elric in FMA and Tamaki in Ouran High School Host Club and other roles in other series... I mean, there's not much variety in his voice; you can /always/ tell when it's him. I mean, it might be a good choice in getting more people to watch the series, but...

I like what I've heard of Iris's voice though (the one clip they've shown on Cartoon Network XDDD). It has the potential to be good, and besides, we've only really seen like one clip, I think.
 
Iris sounds like a middle aged women more then she does 16. From the clip, I am not too high on her VA.
 
Well i'm not going to make a massive opinion on her voice right now. I think it's silly making such big assumptions on literally two words (and a little shriek). I'll wait until I see a full episode for a proper analysis.

I'm actually very excited to hear Team Rocket's new motto.
 
While Cilan's name is incorrect on IMDB, I think Johnny Yong Bosch would be a HORRIBLE match for him, as Yong Bosch's voice talents tend to go toward badass title characters, like Ichigo (of Bleach), Nero (of Devil May Cry 4), and the Black Power Ranger (of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers), and the voice just doesn't go. If anything, he should be N. Vic Mignogna is perfect for Cilan, and N should be voiced by Yuri Lowenthal (Sasuke of Naruto fame, Simon of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann fame) or Johnny Yong Bosch.
 
Iris's voice actress

There's theories and hopes flying around, one of the more popular ones are that Iris is being voiced by Eileen Stevens. I would like to know what you guys think... but first, some original research.

My hypothesis is that Iris is indeed being voiced by Eileen Stevens, based on superficial scientific evidence.

What evidence, you ask? Audio evidence. Recording Audio mix + Audacity = strong stuff. I have recorded Eileen's anime sample clip, Lyra, and Iris.

What I examined were waveforms and Frequency Analyses. There wasn't much visual use with the waveforms besides the |> shape tendency between most of her vowels. However, Frequency analyses bring interesting results.

Frequency Analyses are basically instead of waveforms, which compare amplitude d-time, they compare amplitude d-frequency in Hertz.

Right now, I have this in words, but I'll post/edit with the data from Audacity. The major trend is for her harmonics in the 6500 to 7000 Hz range to take a significant drop with her first voice in her sample clip, Lyra, and Iris. Another significant thing is that her maximum is at around 2000 Hz. Both of these are true for the same three, once again. Another quick view that may or may not be true is similar pattern between 200 and 2000 Hz, I still need to check on that.

As a control, I also took a look at Dawn. In a logarithmic scale, her decibel levels decreased more constantly and stably. Ash also has a significantly different pattern.

I understand if you didn't get much, but once I post screenshots with the intention of comparisons everything will become clear.

I want to hear your thoughts. Be it on my research or what other opinions you have. I do still believe that my results hold some weight, and will weigh much more heavily once I get visual results up.
 
Advanced, if you're correct, I've been wanting Iris' dub name to be Eileen for months (And I swear I've never even heard of Eileen Stevens). So I'll be very amazed if my speculation did serve some purpose. XD
