The Doyen of Vets
Update 1
Some say war is hell, I say hell is what a soldier feels when a war is over and he's been rendered completely useless. It feels like ages since that last stand at Mt. Silver. Kanto has entered peace time and there's a lot of rebuilding to do. Women, children, elders and the few who survived like me are all that remains. I served dutifully as the warrior I was trained to be, but there's more work to be done. Rebuilding takes alot of time and effort and I aim to help anybody who needs it in these most desperate of times. I go again.
That scientist, old man Oak asked me to pick up a package on his behalf from the Viridian City Poke Mart. Before I set off to complete the task, Oak's brat of a grandson, Gary, wanted to test his skill as a trainer against a real man. The elder Oak loaned me a Bulbasaur and I made quick work of that punk and his Charmander. That little Pokemon deserves a better partner.
In any case, I got the package and to my surprise, it was one of Oak's digital contraptions; he called it a Pokedex. Oak wanted me to take that Dex and take a journey through Kanto. He needed an update on all of the remaining species of Pokemon left in the region after it was nearly decimated in the war. The old man also asked me to test the strength of the new Gym Leaders and Elite 4. He needed to make sure that the lot of these so called "leaders" could hold their own and protect their people against a resurgent force of the criminal underworld, Team Rocket. I took care of Madame Rocket early on in the war, but rumor has it that her son took over the family business and its been thriving since then. Oak also said that his grandson wanted to take on the Pokemon League challenge and he wanted me too keep and eye on the kid. I told him that I would do the job for him. Maybe along the way I could help the people of my country get back on their feet. That's my greater purpose in life, that's why I became a soldier; to serve my country.
All of my Pokemon partners were killed in battle during the war, but they left behind offspring; a Growlithe, a Dratini, and a Skarmory. All of them wanted to follow in their parents' footsteps so they all decided to come with me on my new journey. I got my new Pokemon partners, stopped by Professor Oak's house; his sweet granddaughter, Daisy, had borrowed my Town Map, I got back my map and set off.
It was on the outskirts of Viridian City that I met back up with that punk Gary Oak and he challenged me to a rematch. I beat him all the same. Back in Viridian City, I listened to the concerns of the people; they were worried that their City's Gym was closed and its Leader was MIA. That's something that I would have to look into. I made my way to Viridian Forest and spoke and battled with the excitable young people who were exploring the area. They were all obsessed with bugs.
I then came out in Pewter City. There, I met with its people, explored the museum, and battled with its Gym Leader, Brock. I knew Brock's father, Flint, from my time in the military. Old Flint was an expert in minerals and he was a hardest man I ever knew. The kid fought well, but his Onyx eventually went down to my Growlithe. It's bite was too much.
After that, I went to Mount Moon. Along the way, I fought alot of kids (one obsessed with shorts) and met a strange man who wanted me to buy a Magikarp for a ridiculous amount of cash. I refused. Whist making my way through Mount Moon, I came across a rejuvenated Team Rocket. They were all young, arrogant, inexperienced punks that I made short work of. Near the Mountain's entrance, I was able to wrestle a rare Helix Fossil away from a Rocket scientist, but he made off with a Dome Fossil instead.
As I entered Cerulean City, I thought I would catch up with Bill; a young, hotshot Tech Expert from Johto who was our best code-breaker during the war. Before setting foot on Nugget Bridge, that punk Gary Oak accosted me. I made short work of the boy again. I beat five trainers on Nugget Bridge and then came across a Team Rocket Grunt whom I dispatched easily. He wanted me to join Team Rocket, but I refused. I fought every trainer all the way up to Bill's Cottage by the sea and found the crazy lad had turned himself into a Clefairy. He instructed me and I was able to change him back. As a reward for my kindness, I received an SS Ticket.
I made my way back to the Cerulean Gym and took on it's Leader, Misty. I learned that Misty's 3 older sisters used to entertain Kanto's armed forces during the war. They were cheerful girls used to give the boys a lift in spirits when all hope seemed lost. Her Starmie was deadly fast, but all 3 of Growlithe, Dratini, and Skarmory made sure that Misty was beaten. After my victory, I spoke with the citizens of Cerulean, as well as the police, and found out that Team Rocket was making trouble for a family at the edge of the city. I saw to it that that Rocket grunt got his comeuppance and made my way through the Underground path to Vermillion City. I would rest myself for now.
