trying to get into playing the tcg.

    i'm trying to learning to get to playing the official tcg with (both for fun and competitive) but i can't decide which type deck should i run. which is a good deck to run with?

    p.s: i have a good number of cards, so give me some good suggestions

    Just realized I have another question: Which format? The choices for official tournaments are Standard and Extended, with Extended including sets that were rotated out after the last World Championships.

    There's a lot less of decks featuring any of those 4 types (let alone those specific type combos) in Standard than there are in Extended right now, but Standard's what most players choose to play.

    I'd also like to remark that those types don't really have any synergy at the competitive level currently.

    Well, the rules are the same between the two, only the cards permitted are different.



    Anyway, here's a list of deck archetypes that hit at least one of the 4 types you've listed:

    Tier 3 Decks:
    Entei/Charizard EX - Centered around the Entei from Roaring Skies (15/98) and the Charizard EX from Flashfire (12/106).

    M Sceptile EX - Centers around M Sceptile EX from Ancient Origins.

    Vespiquen - Centers around Vespiquen (10/98) from Ancient Origins.

    Tier 4 Decks:
    Vileplume - Centers around Vileplume (3/98) from Ancient Origins.

    Primal Groudon EX - Centers around Primal Groudon EX from Primal Clash.


    Given that, I recommend looking at Yveltal decks that center around Yveltal EX, which has been terrorizing the metagame since the first XY set introduced it in February of 2014. Though you may not always have success with it, and it's an absurdly powerful card.
     
    I also suggest going to any local game store that hosts pokemon league nights and getting a feel of the different styles played by watching as well if you are looking to get started.

    You can always use the PokemonPlay site to look up stores that are closest to your location.

    Then you can see what decks are being played, how they run, and also get to know the community better in your area.

    In the league I'm with I see the Vespiquen deck ran and it is a fun one, I've played against the Vileplum and lost probably by turn four. They are crazy when you get the combo going.

    There is still a reason they're in tiers 3 and 4, respectively, though. They're not easy plays for everyone and Yveltal is such an easy play.

    We host a league at my store and we give the same advice to new players. It's often best to stop by and hang out for a bit with them, they can easily show you the ropes, often borrow decks and the best part? Free league promos >_<
