4th Gen ??? Type: Hints/Confirmation

    Lately, speculation of a ??? type Arceus has been quite big news. However, there is really no official clues linking the ??? type to the actual game, or to Arceus for that matter. But ever-since the GSC years, the move Curse has been listed as a "???" type. It might not be news to you, but could this mean a ??? type actually does exist?
     
    All it is is Curse being different for Ghosts than it is for everything else, so they can't actually label a type there. I think people are looking too much into it.
     
    It is probably just something like a fail safe. Since that type technically does exist (but only for Curse) they don't want the game to glitch up when Arceus somehow, for whatever reason, becomes the ??? type. Idk, it's best to be safe then sorry.
     
    That sounds possible. Or perhaps GF was contemplating including a ??? Plate for Arceus, and thus another form, but then decided against it because it wasn't a fully developed type.
    "???" simply means unknown, so maybe Game Freak will make something more of this 'type' in the future.
    It isn't unusual to see a bunch of unused stuff in these games though :P

    It's probably just an Arceus who can use Curse with different effects than the others,
    but was never put into effect
     
    ??? is a type, in fact through hacking you can make Pokemon that type, ever since GSC ??? has been a type, it just simply has no weaknesses or resistances or strengths to any types. Why would you want to use it? I mean, yeah ??? type Judgement would hit everything for Neutral damage, but that's not saying much.
     
    ??? isnt a type. It never was. It was never confirmed and will never be a plate. A new type will imbalance the metagame. There is no ??? plate coded into the game. Heck, it's not even called mystery type, thats just something someone made up.
     
    If ??? was a type Hidden Power would have it sence it changes depending on a pokemons IV's

    ??? IS a Type. It's just no Pokemon can have it because it's not... Real.
    Uh. Just forget you've ever seen it.

    There are plenty of attacks that change type depending on certain conditions - Nature Power, Weather Ball, Fling, Natural Gift...
     
    The reason why they put a sprite for ???-type Arceus into the game is basically down to hackers. If a code was made so that Arceus' type could be edited, and a hacker made him the ???-type, it's sprite would change, as it does when it's type changes with held plates. But if there was no sprite, the game would crash as it would be trying to load data that does not exist.

    There is no ??? plate coded into the game, so it is highly unlikely that we will ever see a ???-type Arceus. Although I do think it is the best-looking Arceus sprite, unfortunately. :(

    Then how do you explain curse? That wasn't something that someone made up. And yes it does look the best of them all. )=

    Curse is like that because there is no actual type for it because it does a different thing for ghosts
     
    The ??? type is to Pokemon as the appendix is to the human body. It's there, it doesn't need to be and has no effect whatsoever, but yet it is there.

    IT IS A TYPE, just not really...

    And don't worry about curse having the ??? type, it is just a gimmick, nothing more.
     
    Yet there are still many thoeries behind what the appendix is for and there will still be theories behind the ??? type
     
    Theories or no, its pretty certain that there will never be a ??? type for full use in the game, as a Pokemon's type. Closest there has been isn't just Curse; but the whole list of Shadow Pokemon moves from Pokemon Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness. Although not "officially" ??? type moves. But, the idea is the same; in Colosseum, Shadow Rush does neutral damage to all, while Shadow moves are generally Super Effective in XD, against normal non-Shadow Pokemon.

    But really, until there is actual confirmation from them that there will be a ??? type, its just rumours randomly formulated from the fact that Curse is a ??? type and there is an Arceus form that has ??? type colouring. Nothing more.
