Ultimate Monotype Challenge

Curious: Would an emulator work, using no cheat codes, etc. Just playing it as it's meant to be played? Never owned one of the first generation games... No longer have my GBC to play my Silver, and My 3rd Generation games are missing lol >_<

If I CAN use an emulator, I'd go with Bug if possible, starting in Blue :D (Caterpie stage will be hard...)

Found a very intriguing in game trade..
Cubone for Machoke..
Oh ho ho ho!
Nugget Bridge and beyond

Anyway, I destroyed the Nugget bridge - and I mean destroyed! Every single pokemon fainted in ONE hit. No exaggeration, just pure power.
I'm heading for Vermillion, Mankey is about to evolve into Primeape too as Mankey is currently at level 27.
Saved Bill from the clutches of being a pokemon and got the ticket for the SS Anne. This'll lead to me being able to get cut who I'll teach to a HM slave.

In all, I have planned out my party. It'll be as follows:

"image removed"
In game traded Machamp

"image removed"
Machoke

"image removed"
Primeape

"image removed"
Poliwrath

"image removed"
Hitmonlee

My HM slave isn't important, so there's no real need to say which one I'll use.

NEWSFLASH:
Right after I posted this, Mankey finally evolved into Primeape! Woohoo! Here are the thing's stats:
"image removed"
Primeape
Level 28
Karate Chop
Focus Energy
Low Kick
Rage
Highest Stat: Attack - 75
Lowest Stat: Special - 46

You know what the next generations could use? A fighting type that specialises in Special Attack.

Next part will come after L.T Surge.

I think I'll take part in this challenge using my Yellow version. As for the type it shall be...water! Oh I have a question, since I'm using Yellow version and I have to start with Pikachu, is it okay if I catch a Mankey to use instead of Pikachu until I get to Mount Moon to get a Magikarp?

Hello, I am planning to sign up for this challenge and I'll be starting in my Red version using my electric type team!!! I just got one question--once you beat the game and when i go play silver do I need to have the same type still or pick another diff. type...? otherwise I'll still do electric. =]

Alright, I beat L.T Surge.
Sailors and high voltage ahoy!

My journey continues by going through the Underground path. I found a young girl who was willing to trade a Machoke for a cubone! A sound deal; I'll catch a Cubone sometime when I reach Lavender Town.

Obtained an old rod in town, but deposited it in the PC for being useless for anything but Magikarps. What a shame.. I could've had Poliwag (Will be Wrath) sooner.
Not going to bother getting the bike, I walk fast enough to not care about it and the glitch to enter Cycling Road without a bike further promotes me to not bother with the bike.
Entered the S.S Anne and - oh, you know what happened..
I kicked everybody in the nuts with no problem. My rival I destroyed using rage. In the first gen, rage doesn't stop. Rage will keep on being used until the Pokemon faints or the battle is won, so it's best when it's used wisely.

Got Cut from the captain and taught it to my HM slave 'Bulbaslave' who will be my main cutter. As for Strength/Surf, they will be taught to my normal party as they're decent attacks in their own right.

Anyway, went into LT Surge's gym and easily beat all the trainers. The puzzle was - err - easy this time! I got it straight away with no hitches; you could say it was shockingly lucky! (Ew..)
L.T surge was a pushover with his Raichu. It fainted in two from my Primeape. I preferred the Red/Blue/Green battle with this dude over the yellow one by far.

Anyway, my party now
"image removed"
Primeape
Level 33
Karate Chop
Focus Energy
Low Kick
Rage
Highest Stat: Attack - 89
Lowest stat: Special - 55
Fun fact:
Primeape's lowest stat is actually one point below it's second lowest: defense!

Next part will come when I get to Lavender Town and I pick up my chum Machop!

I would like to take the BUG challenge, Pokemon Yellow.

Once I get CATERPIE, do I ONLY use? Or can I use something as back-up til Caterpie evolves?

I don't see anything wrong with using an emulator, as I've seen other threads like this where they were allowed. So I'll just edit that point into the first post. ^^

And Ruby-kun, you can go ahead and use that Mankey. ^^

As for skaterzpenguin:
1) I almost wanted to ignore you completely after that PM you sent me. But alas, I'm too nice for my own good. And for your information I didn't have time to go through everything here earlier. >_<
2) Yes, the point is to use the same type in each generation. So if you use Electric in Red, you must use it for the other games as well.

And with that aside, I'll add the new names to the list. And expect an update from me sometime tonight or tomorrow.

~Zam

EDIT: beat me to posting, Hair_of_the_Dawn. ^^

You can back up Caterpie for training purposes, but challenge the Gyms with only Caterpie/Butterfree. ^^

Got through Rock Tunnel a bit ago..
Going Rocky style in Rock Tunnel

Started in Cerulean and cut down the tree blocking the way to the east. Thrashed all the trainers with Primeape as usual and picked up a useless TM I will never, ever need.

Outside of Rock Tunnel I decided to catch a Machop. Anything I would've used would defeat it, so I had to chuck balls at it. It took 6 tries to get it, in the end.
Trained Machop up to level 24 or so and then entered Rock Tunnel.

Got my first taste of the Psychic type as I fought Slowpokes. They made quick work for Machop so I had to use Primeape on all the slowpokes after that. I know that Pyshics will be a royal thorn in my side during this and the Slowpokes are pure proof of what is yet to come..

As I traveled through Rock Tunnel, my Machop was leveling pretty fast so while in the tunnel, it evolved! Now it's a beautiful Machoke and will be a secondary fighter below the in game traded Machamp.
I skipped a few trainers so I could heal in Lavender and then returned, where - shock horrors! Primeape fainted for the first time! Darn!
Oh well, I managed to get through Rock Tunnel without Flash, anyway. Flash is oddly realistic in Red and Blue. You can't see your surroundings but you can see a small amount around you such as the walls. It works way more realistic than the other games so far.

Anyway, I'm now in Lavender. Ill do the next part once I finish Pokemon Tower and get Machamp/Poke Flute/Super Rod/Poliwag. It'll be a huge segment that's for sure!

Well I been playing for like 3 hours now and I have a pikachu, and a voltorb! I'm about to head in the rock tunnel, so wish me luck! ^_^

Alright, started on Blue version and currently have a lvl 25 Ivysaur and lvl 21 Weepinbell. A lot of the grass type Pokemon I'm not bothering on catching because I would end up discarding them anyway.

Okay, I've done a few things today. Deciding to not go through the Seafoam Islands, I just flew to Saffron and Surfed south towards Cinabar Island, XD. Once there, I put my two Water-Psychics to the training in the Cinabar Mansion.

Ironically enough, I came across the mighty Magmar twice!!! Annoying this is because back when I first played the game in the 90's, I completely missed Magmar, and when I actually did go looking for one, it took me like two days to find the thing! And now I find him twice, and I'm not even supposed to catch him, heh. But he did give nice experience to Slowpoke.

It was easy enough deciding which of the seven not to use against the gym: Exeggcute. :D
I didn't bother answering the questions, as instead I just swept all the junior trainers with Slowpoke. This is because I intend to make him a Slowbro before I reach Indigo Plateau. So, as I said before, Fire Types refuse to use Fire attacks on Water-Types, so Slowpoke had a blast!

I then went up to Viridian City and challenged the gym there. I mainly used my Pokemon with dual-types that had the advantage: Starmie, Slowpoke, and my newly evolved Exeggutor! Defeating Giovanni was actually easier than I thought thanks to Exeggutor's Hypnosis and Leech Seed. =D

And now I'm on my way to the next rematch with Gary, as I begin the trek up to the Plateau. ^^

Already have my bug team planned (Considering there's only 6 bug types in the first generation LOL And scyther/pinsir are exclusive...)

Butterfree
Beedrill
Venomoth
Scyther
Parasect.

Good news is: 3 of them are obtained early on. Bad News: Other 2 are pretty late :(

Only bad thing about bug challenge is that I won't be able to use Butterfree in later generations :( (Fav. Pokemon) :P

Btw, Since I'll use an emulator, I'll upload my gym battles to youtube, if I have the time :D

And caterpie isn't hard to level up in the beginning, just have to continue running back and forth to the pokemon center :S (Tackle -> Tackle -> Tackle -> Evolve -> Repeat) :P

EDIT: Something I just realized: No bug type can learn Surf until generation 3... And none can EVER learn Fly... are we allowed to use a HM slave for certain HMs if ours can't learn it? Fly I could understand a No on as it's just a time saver, but surf is a required skill in the games in order to move on :S

EDIT2: Started my Journey.

I chose Charmander as my starter so that rival would have squirtle. No advantages, no disadvantages to me. I did not battle anyone after that, ran from all wild battles, etc. First chance I did, I went up and caught a Caterpie. I promptly named her (since there are no genders, I will assign them :P) Celest. I immediately returned to town, went to the Poke Center, healed Caterpie, and put Charmander in the PC. I ventured into Viridian Forest, where the first pokemon I encountered was, would you believe it? A Weedle. I caught and named him Spitfire.

After a long time training them up to a Butterfree/Beedrill, I was finally able to challenge Brock. I originally attempted to take out Geodude with Beedrill, but failed miserably, so I reset and tried again. :)

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAbykeErUR0

I got lucky with that critical hit and continuous missings from Onix, eh? I may just not upload videos, unless people enjoy watching em :P It's a bit of a hassle. XD

Current Team (As Seen in Video):

Celest (Butterfree)

Level: 13
[PokeCommunity.com] Ultimate Monotype Challenge

Tackle
String Shot
Confusion

Spitfire (Beedrill)
Level: 12
[PokeCommunity.com] Ultimate Monotype Challenge

Poison Sting
String Shot
Fury Attack

Debating Teaching Beedrill the Bide TM I just got from Brock :P Or Maybe I'll save it for Parasect XD

Yes, of course. Wow, I guess I'd better add that to the rules, eh? :P

And it's interesting that you say that you'll be putting your battles on Youtube. Because I plan to do the same, XD. I have all my gym battles recorded, but I've yet to upload. ^^

Alright I made it to Celadon city and the first thing I did when I got there was I went to the department store!!! I like shopping so I bought ton of stuff and I found out that you can buy stones there, so I bought 2 of them because I can evolve my pikachu, and my eevee! I have 3 badges and pretty soon I will be facing Erika the grass gym leader, wish me luck!!!

Alright, I'm back.. I'll post my progress once I'm done with my coursework and whatnot. I got Ricky (Machamp.) So I should be fine from this point onwards!

Okay Update

Started game. Named player Red. Named rival Green. Started with Pikachu(duh!) and nicknamed it Pika. Trained Pika a bit. Got Oak's parcel.

I know it's a short update...

Ok, the progress I've made is pretty long so expect a sorta long post.

Ghostly Escapades
I started out in Lavender and made my way into the nearby route 11, at this point Marcus was gaining strength. He'll make a great addition to my party in the future.
Beat the school guys who hang out on the road. Not too hard to beat, wasn't much of a challenge as usual.
Arrived in Celadon and deposited/sold a bunch of items I will never need for room. This is probably the only game where your PC is vital. I bought some revives, super potions, a Pokedoll and a water stone for later on.
Afterwards I went into the game corner, but I had no intention to gamble, no sir! The first thing I did was rough-house the rocket member guarding the poster and opened the door to a hidden hideout.
The acceleration tiles are so slow in this game! Agh! It takes forever to get from point A to point B in this dungeon; so damn annoying!

Anyway, once I got the key I was confronted by Team Rocket for the second time with their still very weak party. None more than a pushover this time around!
Thrashed Giovanni with Marcus and recieved the Silph. Scope, but I didn't have enough room at first.. Ugh.
Taught Rock Slide to Marcus to counter the ghost types. I'll need even more type coverage for Agatha later on, but apart from that, Rock Slide will do for now. The Pokemon Tower was quite a bit harder than the other challenges I faced. The Pokemon were fast, powerful and nigh on annoying when Rock Slide misses. Damn that tower, I'll never, ever return!

Destroyed the Marowak and was confronted by Team Rocket AGAIN after one small paragraph! However now their Pokemon have evolved; making them quite a bit tougher than before. Still a pushover.

Finally, got a cubone after a long and hard search and traveled along route 12(?) in order to get to the trainer who wants it. Got Ricky! Also managed to grab the super rod but discovered that you can't find Poliwags with it.. All you can find is Krabby, Goldeen, Horsea and Shellder! Or at least I believe so, Poliwags are found with the good rod which is found in Fuschia...

Right now I'm up to the Celadon Gym, and I'll record my progress again once I reach Koga and catch Poliwag and even get Hitmonlee too!
