    Do you need a Server to make a forum? And a Static IP? Also, I know your IP changes about every time you connect to the internet, but what if your connected all day? (netgear)

    Only people with Dial-Up IPs change...if you are using a netgear router I think it won't change unless you have dial-up, and your internet goes down, or any other way for your router to turn off

    So..this means I could start a forum right now without a server or a Static IP? And will the IP change if the power goes out or if I turn my computer on?
     
    You need to have a forum uploaded to a server somewhere, and some good places are invisonfree.com and myfreebb.com.

    As for a static IP, you only need one if you intend to host your forum on your own computer (not a good idea - trust me). But if you do decide to host it on your own computer, you don't even need a static IP because there are services like no-ip.com that can help you out on that. =/
     
    You don't need to worry about IPs at all. You can use any free forum hosting service, and they'll set it up for you automatically.

    I really want to start a forum, but..I didn't know if I needed to buy anything or not.. our ISP is a DSL thing, but not Dial-up. I think it's called Neon DSL..

    You dun need to worry about ISPs if you want to start a forum. ^^;

    Try invisionfree, it's an excellent way to start off.

    Well..I'll think about it, since Proboards are out of date temperarly(sp?). But if they do find out..I'm in trouble..O.o
    Maybe I'll contact them and ask about it..
     
    Don't bother. They have no effective way to track your age, nor any real punishment. Just get a parent's permission if you're worried.
     
    Unless you give real name and address (which you can lie on too) there is no way to find out your real age... ~_~
     
    The age 13 thing is a legal thing they have to do because of COPPA, but it doesn't count for anything - kids have been lying about their ages for years. Don't worry about it ^^. Just say you were born in 1980 or something, it's easy to remember if you need to confirm for some reason...

    I found something called myfreebb, and I'm using that right now. ^^ Maybe if I get sick of it I'll move my forum to InvisionFree..
