i just started my leaf green again and just got squirtle and started battling and a shiny rattata appeared and i had no poke balls

Aww that's horrible. I had a similar experiance in Gold when I was on my way to Mahogany Town. I had 1 Great Ball, and it just happened to pop out.

aww man, that sucks, but i caught a shiny ditto in the unknown dungeon the other day, cuz i made sure i stocked up on ultra balls just in case i ran into something cool

It's on all the cartridges. Maybe Gamefreak put it there to encourage us to search for shinys, maybe they put it there to make us feel bad. But nontheless, that is horrible news skullmurder..
