2nd Gen Uno, Dos, Tres (The Three Birds)

[PokeCommunity.com] Uno, Dos, Tres (The Three Birds)

These majestic bird trio are known by quite a few names - the legendary birds, the winged mirages, well, you name it! They were the first trio of legendary Pokémon to exist, as such they set the base standards for future legendary trios of Pokémon to come.

Articuno フリーザー
[PokeCommunity.com] Uno, Dos, Tres (The Three Birds)

This is Articuno, an Ice/Flying pokemon that you'll find in Seafoam Islands. It's the most defensive pokemon from the trio, so, it's probably a good idea to take advantage of using moves like Toxic and Rest, but it's Special Stat isn't too bad either, so Ice Beam or Blizzard would be optimal too.

Zapdos サンダー
[PokeCommunity.com] Uno, Dos, Tres (The Three Birds)

Zapdos here is an Electric/Flying pokemon that you can find in the Kanto Power Plant. It's the fastest pokemon of trio that shares the highest Special Stat with a decent Attack stat, so, having moves like Thunderbolt and Drill Peck is a good idea for damage, while you can still have back up moves like Substitute and Thunder Wave.

Moltres ファイヤー
[PokeCommunity.com] Uno, Dos, Tres (The Three Birds)

Annnnd finally, Moltres is an Fire/Flying pokemon that has a high Special stat, so try moves like Flamethrower or Fire Blast! Using moves like Agility or Substitute wouldn't hurt either.

Topics to discuss!

What do you think of this trio overall? How about when they were first introduced, if you played the Pokémon games then originally? Which of these three did you like the most when R/B/G/Y first came out (again, if you played the Pokémon games then) - and how about now? Discuss about this lovely trio in its entirety here~!

They are good-looking (except Moltres on RB). And they just say "hey I'm a legendary".

Yes totally I would always have my Zapdos and my Articuno because they were so cool.

My all-time fave was Articuno. I remember performing the Ditto glitch to get a lv. 7 Articuno then I transferred it into my Gold cartridge and it was so good. I think I never loved Moltres because of his underpowered movepool (seriously Leer at lv. 51 and Fire Spin at lv. 60? I expected Flamethrower and Sky Attack at lv. 65 is too damn long to train considering previous moves!!!). And I did not feel like catching them again when I made my FR run (I borrowed it from a friend).

It's not a well-balanced trio like starter trio is.
Moltres sucks at battling but is sorta beautiful and majestuous I guess. I would like to ride it IRL. Dats all.

I'm very much fond of these trio, with one of my main reasons being... well, they're the original. There are many legendary trio out there right now, but before them, we have only had Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres.

They're all unique in their own, personal way, but one bird I do find myself liking more is Zapdos. To me, its appearance seems to be top-notch; due to its spiky feathers and overall look, it comes off as sort of intimidating, and I believe this suits the Pokémon very nicely, as, when it comes to battling, Zapdos is definitely a force to be reckoned with.

Second favorite is Articuno, as its design seems to be pretty elegant in my eyes. Out of the three birds, in my opinion, Articuno is most beautiful, without a doubt.

I'm fond of the legendary birds. My teams unfortunately tended to have an electric-type weakness already (I liked water types a lot), so adding Articuno or Moltres in wasn't always the best move for me personally, but I liked the trio a lot all the same. Zapdos is by far my favorite, and I used both Zapdos and Articuno on my Red team at one point. I've never cared too much for Moltres, and have tended to use other fire types instead.

One of the things I found odd about the birds at the time (but that became the trend for legendary trios) is that it was possible to play through the entire game without even knowing they existed. They weren't exactly on the main road most of the time, so if you weren't looking for them, you weren't likely to encounter them by chance. (That was especially true of Zapdos, given that there was no other reason to go to the Power Plant, but I personally tended to get to Cinnabar via Pallet rather than the Seafoam Islands, and I wasn't looking for legendary encounters in Victory Road.) I recall learning about them from friends and rumors and hunting them down.

Oh I've used Zapdos more than naught; I do think it looked amazing. :3
But Articuno & Moltres are cool too! I just didn't get a chance to learn and use them all too often~

I've loved Zapdos too! Did you use one for your pokemon party? I've had like a level 99 one with Thunder, Thunderbolt, Drill Peck and.. I think Substitute, but yeah. It's pretty fast and it's electric attacks do come in handy!
