I've been thinking about this for about 5 months but I never decided to post this till now. O.o

Sometimes, I judge members by how stupid their username is. The reason they probably choose weird names is because some of the other names are taken.

Why not just delete accounts that have 0 posts and are over 2 years old or some other time? And yes, I know that we don't delete accounts... currently.

I personally think they should, with the state of how laggy PC is lately and all, but they won't.

Really. We should have some kinnd of automated pruning thingy, or whatever it is..*dosen't speak webmaster language* There are forums I go to where the forst thing on the rules is that if you don't post after a year or a week after joining, your user gets deleted automatically.
*Sees my old username in coolmasters' friends list* Meh. I can name about two of my own old accounts that I'd probably want deleted. And besides, we'd all have our user-number to a lesser #.
    Totally agrees.

I remember tha day when a bunch of accounts were pruned. Monumental day in PC history >_>

Didn't we stop doing it because SPPF does it as well? And, for some reason, we try to act as opposite of them as possible?

I just don't see any need. If people choose a uniquely identifying nickname then no one else should have taken it. I've never had any problems.

This is quite easy to answer...Never judge a book by it's cover :O

How on EARTH does that post relate to the topic?

what i was thinking is that if a user hasnt logged on for a year or something, the username should be reset to like PC member 34543, and aan email sent to their account saying it has been changed, this way name changing people can what they want xD

I don't know if that's automatically possible. I think there is a way to send out email to people who haven't visited for x time, though, and remind them they're a member - it's happened to me for other vB forums. Would that perhaps be better?

Still, it doesn't do anything about the names, but as I said earlier I don't think that's a problem if you have a properly-considered nick.

Well, he did say that he judges people by their usernames XD

    Ah, I see.

    Well, I'm sure there are lots of unused SENSIBLE usernames too. If someone chooses a stupid one, it's up to them. ^^;;

What I actually mean is that there are some people who like to use Pokemon names but usually they are taken by some random member who has no posts and is obviously never going to come back.
    *goes to look for examples*

Edit: Erm... Where did all of the members with 0 posts go?

    Someone might want those names?

PC's lag has almost nothing to do with the database, as the server is fast enough to handle much bigger databases (1 GB database processing is quite fast).

The last time we've pruned 0 post names was all the way in early 2003. But I don't imagine it happening again.
I think it?d be helpful if it can be done again. Someone might want to register some of those names, even though they?ve already been taken up, yet not made any posts.

We do send reminder emails from here from time to time..

We really try not to prune older members.. we have in the past, and may do it again.. (maybe yearly?) but don't hold your breath, hehe
