I noticed while browsing through Serebii's news that some pokémon have had their base stats changed in X/Y. Click here for the list.

As far as I'm aware this is the first time stats have been changed from one generation to the next so I thought it could lead to some discussion.

First of all, any changes you're happy or unhappy with?

And secondly, do you feel some evolutions should have been avoided now that stats can be improved?

I personally think it's annoying that they have now decided to update pokémon's stats after ruining Rhydon with an evolution two generations ago. Rhydon was (and should be) pretty strong in the earlier generations only to get gradually more useless until they gave him an evolution which design wise was very bad. Obviously I'd prefer Rhydon to have just been given an upgrade in D/P instead. There are probably a few similar cases to Rhydon.

Overall, I think it's a good idea though and could be a positive thing for the series so long as they don't go overboard with the changes. Going up 10 in one stat seems fine for now.

Sounds like you wanted Mega Evolution early.

They only add 10 point to one Stat on any one pokemon. So Beedrill and Butterfree still awefull.

NidoKing looks a lot better now.

Clefable gets pure Fairy Type AND an extra 10 points in Special Attack. When I get mine transfered from BW2 BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YEAH!

If that was the case and Rhydon's mega evolution looked like Rhyperior, I'd still be unhappy, but I suppose that would have indeed solved Rhydon's competitive issues.

I realise my point about Rhydon and my point about stopping the stats from being upgraded too much conflict with each other. I'll clarify and say as long as there weren't too many major stat changes.

From a competitive battling point of view, any offensive improvements might just make the difference between an OHKO and a 2HKO, and possibly promote these Pokemon to higher tiers, but as it's only 10 points, it's probably not going to make that much of a difference anyway. I feel particularly sorry for Azumarill and Leavanny, as Azumarill already has the Huge Power ability that only boosts attack rather than special attack. Leavanny's better Special Defense still doesn't make up for her 4x weakness to Fire and Flying.
