I haven't played the TCG in years, but I recently wanted to get back into it again. :)

The problem is we're on the verge of the B/W TCG being released in next few months...

...So I was wondering, should I start making a deck now, or wait until the Black and White TCG is released before starting up again?

Id say, create a deck and intergrate B/W now. Sure the cards wont match.
Your deck will still be totaly legal for use. Despite the fact when it comes
out an older set wont be anymore.
I myself am trying to get back into it. Though its allot more
complicated then it was few years ago..

It's not so much more complicated as it is just a faster-paced game with some changes to the original rules.

Probably wait for the new format prolly, as it's just till summer..heh.

The new format would probably include all the HeartGoldSoulSilver sets, though, so I'd probably start buying now so you have valuable trainers and supporters like Rare Candy, Pokemon Collector, Pokemon Communication, and Lost World for the 2011-12 format.

I'm saying that because the new format is still in the air. It could be Plat-on, RR-on, HGSS-on, etc, etc.

So, I guess Ebay would be the best place to start looking, as I have no nearby card shops. :/

Pokemon is actually easier to find in big box retailers (like Wal-Mart and Target in the US) than in smaller hobby shops, from personal experience, though eBay is your best bet for singles, as most hobby shops don't deal in singles for Pokemon cards anymore.

Considering that call or legends is a transitional set, it would be smart that you start with the first B/W set, as the last trans set was EX Power Keepers, and it only lasted like a year before becoming a obsolete set. I think the same might happen for legends, but you should play your cards safe and wait for B/W to be released unless you're in a rush to join the TCG craze.

6 months is a short lifespan for a set, and the next rotation is due up in August, if it happens, and it gets announced in May/June whether there will be one or not, typically, so I don't think Clash of Legends will be rotated until at least 2011. And there's no guarantee B/W will last nearly as long as D/P did in the format. D/P's life as a set was somewhat of an anomaly for TCGs, as it was legal from it's 2007 debut to August 2010, which is much longer than in other TCGs with rotating standard formats like Magic: The Gathering, and longer than the lives of most sets in the Pokemon TCG for the modified format in the past.

Wow! So each set ends up really short-lived with some cards making the transition?

Really fast-paced for the many cards they come out with. :/

Well, they've gotta keep making money, and the format's gotta be fresh so new people can easily jump in and not lose all the time because they don't have some super rare card that was last printed 5 years ago.

Magic's standard format moves even faster, actually. Sets barely live in that format for longer than 1 1/2 years. Though Magic's been around so long and is so entrenched because of its older target audience that it's got so many different formats.

The better cards are in the pre-heart gold soul silver sets, but if you are worried about buying cards which may be rotated then stick with heart gold soul silver-onward. The speculation is that all or part of the platinum series could be rotated out, but if they don't, then you still have all year to aquire the platinum cards you want. Better to play it safe.

Ture, you do have a point. Hm, so sets last foe a for few months before being changes up.

Hm, I'll have to see what I'm gonna do. Thanks for the info. :)
