[PokeCommunity.com] Warriors of Light: The Final Fantasy Club [2.0]

Welcome, Ladies and Gentleman, Chocobo and Moogles, Eidolons and Espers, to the reincarnated Final Fantasy Club! First published in 1987 on the NES, Final Fantasy has since expanded to include fifteen (as of September 2016) mothership titles and dozens of spinoffs across every video game system, as well as movies, anime series, and a ridiculous amount of merchandise. Widely regarded as the series that codified the JRPG genre, Final Fantasy news is still met with general excitement or overwhelming criticism by the industry, making it a very relevant series despite the expansion of the genre and localisation of other long-running series.

We have a lot of Final Fantasy fans here, and the last club lasted for a good while, so. Assemble, Warriors of Light! We must save the crystals! Or orbs...or the Moon...whatever.

Whilst this is primarily a club devoted to discussion of Final Fantasy- hence the name - discussion of other Square Enix developed JRPGs such as Kingdom Hearts and Dragon Quest is also permitted in here, so if you have something about those series you'd like to say, go for it! Depending upon popularity of discussion of those series, the topic title may be rebranded to include them in the future. For now, don't let their lack of inclusion put you off bringing them up.

What are your thoughts on Final Fantasy XV, scheduled for release in September of this year? Are you excited? Will you be purchasing it?

I can't CSS but I'll see what I can do in the near future to make this post prettier.

Am I excited for the new Final Fantasy game? Now, don't me wrong, I am pretty excited and I did already pre-order it for September, but I am concerned for a number of things, like, am I going to like that Kingdom-Hearts esque battle system? Am I really going to enjoy the characters (as limited as they are)? I don't mind the boy-band team as long as their personalities/backstories and such are done well. Other than that, the game looks graphically beautiful, and I can't wait to see how it plays out~!

When it comes to Final Fantasy XV, I think I am excited for it. Course I have not preordered it. I expect it will be quite good though.

I think this'll be a miss for me, probably. I was never really excited for it, but the latest demo gave me mixed feelings. The playable one from earlier this year. It started with me being dissatisfied with it having turned into Kingdom Hearts as far as Gameplay and Particles were concerned, but I was impressed with the ideas present independent from the gameplay. Mostly aesthetic things. And it'll look good, no doubt, but the...it's...oi.

You know, back when it was released, I thought it might be interesting that it was an Action RPG. I enjoyed Lightning Returns more than most, and that was what gave me a whiny child with strange, vague goals. But what I'm seeing gets fuzzier and fuzzier with time as I see more- the latest trailer, in particular, as well as their not-so-ARPG FFVII and their past attempts. Of course I want to like it but...I just really worry about how well they actually understand...well, games. It might have actually been a good idea for them to go back to Turn-Based, and with the right tinkering, the experience could become more varied and break through the genre fatigue that affects so many of them.

I think I can respect Square Enix's decision to go with an all-male cast, because they've explained why they're doing it and not given us some dismal excuse, but nonetheless...yeah, I'm probably not going to care for it. Considering my favourite FF characters are female, it's one step behind. Have you been watching the anime shorts they've been showing? I think they're at least making an effort with characterisation...minimalistic as it may be.

Square Enix seem to have this mentality that a KH-style ARPG is the next logical step up from the ATB system they've run into the ground, and honestly I'd disagree with that as well...although rather than see another turn-based system, I'd prefer to see something real-time, along the lines of Star Ocean's battle system, or even Dissidia's combat if they want to make it more dynamic. The Kingdom Hearts battle style is very awkward in my opinion; the special moves themselves restrict your freedom of movement and make it quite the struggle sometimes. FFXV emulates this and it feels very awkward; focusing more on flash than freedom, and I'm not sure how the final thing is going to handle either. Should be interesting either way, though.

As for the topic, I'm also missing bigger selection of female characters.
And somehow... I feel SE is not even sure about the game themselves. I mean, they are still worried about Persona 5. If they were confident, I'm sure they wouldn't be THAT worried. Persona is big, but it's not nearly as big as FF.
If one were to ask someone to name a JRPG, they would say FF and in most cases, they wouldn't even know what Persona is.
