Given the supposed rumor that Sun & Moon will have no traditional Gyms and instead rely on you creating a league, the citizens of Alola might actually recognize you as Champion and that could be the change that people wanted, because usually when you became Champion most NPCs never acknowledged it, so it would be cool to see Sun & Moon finally acknowledge you as Champion for once.

Where did you hear this? Doesn't seem likely to me. Cool as it sounds, it goes heavily against the formula. And how would the Pokemon League maintain order without a Champion and Elite Four to represent them? Then again, if it is true, the backpacker was right about their champion being something else. If he/she brought the Pokemon League to the region, that would be a big deal.

I've always felt that there should be something after the game that recognises you as the champion. Something like the ability to accept challenges from really strong trainers or the option to have your own gym - although I doubt that would happen.

I think Game Freak doesn't allow you to fully be recognized as the Champion from you exploring the post game or doing other stuff once you beat the game (catching them all! breeding, more battling, contests, those detective missions, etc.) , in their minds imo your goal was to beat the Pokémon League & its Champion, not nesscarily become Champion. + You have the task of fulfilling the Pokédex as well :3

Personally I would love if Game Freak would add something that recognizes you as Champion, just maybe like you go to your "headquarters" and there will be a trainer there everyday you can battle :3

I would love to be like a Champion of the region, except I have free reign and don't just stand in a room all day. 8) I get to explore, run around ect. but I get notified when a trainer wants to battle?? Yes please. Sounds really fun. I'd love to destroy challengers with a wacky team. heh

You know, I think it'd be kinda boring staying in the Champion's room and keep battling trainers. I think it should be optional, like you could fly up to the League, and relax in the champion's room and battle strong trainers, and then, you could exit the place and continue the post game whenever you wish to. You could even abandon the duties of the Champion if you like, but you'll have to rebattle the whole of the elite 4 and the former champ to regain the post of the leader of the Elite four.

What the hell do you mean by that??
there's no controlling the Elite Four
You wanna "control" the Elite Four, in games?

Didn't Gen Two recognize you as Champion when you're granted access to Mt. Silver? I could be wrong, but it is just you and Red there, no other people that aren't a Nurse Joy. I'm not counting the remakes where they added a woman to the Pokemon Center. I'm pretty sure the Fan Club in Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald gave you more fans after you beat the Elite Four, too. I think it would be a great idea to be recognized as the champion, but I'm won't that mean my journey is over? I like the idea of a gym, though. That would be nice.

To be honest, it probably would not be fun at all if the post-game limited you to standing in the Champion's room all day waiting for random NPCs to challenge you after making their way past the Elite Four. Otherwise, there would be no battling Mewtwo (R/B/Y/FR/LG), no battling Red (G/S/C/HG/SS), and no Delta Episode (OR/AS).

Being a champion isn't something that sounds like a full-time duty. It's not like they'll be constantly challenged, since only so many trainers at a given time could pass the Eight gyms+Elite four filter. Plus, there would probably be specific days of the week/month when the League accepts challenges.

As I see it, the key responsibility that the strongest trainer in a region would have to bear is the same responsibility superheroes bear: saving the world. In that sense, the games do task strong trainers (and champions) with duties like stopping evil team X, capture Y legendary, or prevent Z natural disaster from happening.
