    I see that 95% of all hacks never credit Nintendo, the reason we are here. It's not really a big of a deal but what do you think?

    Should Nintendo get credited for creating Pokemon in the first place?

    Or, should Nintendo not get credited seeing as the community created the tools needed to even hack a ROM of their game....?

    (When I say Nintendo, I guess you could include GameFreak as well)
     
    They should get credit, and gamefreak. The hacks we make are good because of nintendo's ideas and innovation, not because of our hacking skills.
     
    i think it depends on how much of the original game you actually use...
    if you change every last graphic detail, and map, events...
    you only kept the original asm of the game...the asm alone deserves credits...
    so yea... Nintendo needs credits, but seeing as this is a POKEMON hacking
    thread then it's sorta expected that any hacks are going to be recognized as having
    a Nintendo base. Which is all that credits are. Recognizing people for their work, if it
    gets done, then Nintendo has credits IMO. Just cuz the word isn't their doesn't mean
    they aren't recognized
     
    Well they made it in the first place, so yeah i think so.
     
    I had always assumed that Nintendo being the original creators was always implied. Just for the same reason most games and hacks don't list Satoshi Tajiri-Oniwa.

    Nintendo should be credited because you coding/ the game without permission. Even with changed music, the original music makers deserve it too.

    I agree. Altought I don't think we will ever find out every single individual who helped. Sure, the credits in the game show a lot of names, but it's just the most important people.

    I think a simple 'Credits to Nintendo, Gamefreak and everyone who helped make [Insert game name here].' works for me.
     
    Honestly crediting them just sounds bad to me, like oh we took your game and changed it, idk its like were adding are own creativity, but they could take it as what it wasnt good enough, when thats not the case we just want MORE. lol
    so prolly credit them if your rom actully gets big, otherwise it souldnt matter too much.
    just my opion.

    I think it doesn't matter if your rom is 'big' or not, Nintendo deserves credit for a ton of reasons. :P


    Off-topic: I wonder if Nintendo plays our hacks...Or even knows about PC.
     
    It's pretty hard to assume as to why Nintendo should NOT get credit...But at the same time, you have to think: Even though Nintendo's being given credit for making the original games we're hacking from, they actually could still sue us, since ROMs in themselves are illegal, and we're basically changing someone else's work so heavily that it's almost like a completely new game. So in a way, crediting them would be like saying: "Kudos to Nintendo/GameFreak for making Pokemon FireRed...An excellent game for me to use as my ROM Base for my totally new hack, Pokemon InsertATitleHere!" So really, crediting them would be more like an issue of conscience...maybe. Idk.

    I'm pretty sure Nintendo DOES know there's people out there who hack their games, but all the years' worth of paperwork and filing lawsuits would take eternities to catch up to every single hacker out there.

    most people do but i surpose it starts getting redundent after a while cus we all know who made the games so a lot of people dont see the point
     
    Hmm, I think we should credit them, but we don't have to. It's not like they're asking us for credits. They don't even care about our ROM hacks.
