Question: What are Claims!!?!?!?!

Sorry if this has been asked before but I need to know what are CLAIMS. The ones in the User Control Panel-Editing my Profile.

I just couldn't be bothered to check if there are threads like this before because there are too many threads.

You can claim bishies/video game characters from threads such as the bishy thread located in the anime section. The section is to list the characters you claim in such threads.

There's a Pokémon claim thread in Pokémon General too.

Have you ever heard of a search function? You could probably type in "claims" and find the threads themselves, or at least another thread asking about them. :/ No sifting through forums required.
