    It's Pikachu. I never really cared for it, but it's alright.
     
    Pikachu's cool, why do so many people hate him?
     
    Probably because it's the most recognizable Pokemon, yet it's not entirely useful in battle, Terry.

    Personally, I prefer Raichu, which I think lasts a little bit longer than Pikachu in battle, but overall, Pikachu isn't really my favorite. There's better Electric-types out there, and its stats and movepool don't really help it too much. In competitive battling, it's not even worth using without a Light Ball (from what I understand). So, I tend to get frustrated with using it (even if it means getting a Raichu out of it that may pass along Light Screen and Thunderbolt or be cute and somewhat cuddly), even though it did all right for me back in RBY.

    Out of ten, I'd probably rank it at a 5. Not the worst Pokemon out there, but not really something I'd go out of my way to have.
     
    Well. The only reason everyone hates it is because:

    For the people that love it Nintendo decided to make it elusive within the games.

    For the people that hate it it's everywhere in the world of Pokemon merchandise.

    But I do have a question - why did Ash get a Pikachu? There was never really any reason.

    Oh, and for the record, I have a EV'd Raichu.
     
    I think the writers chose for Ash to get a Pikachu as he was the cutest, most regognisable Pokemon, and to be honest, I don't disagree with them. He can be quite a cutie sometimes.

    Ash received a Pikachu because the writers of the Pokemon anime didn't want to alienate any viewers of the show bu having Ash receive only one of the three starters. So there was a vote and the Japanese public decided to pick Pikachu as the new starter for Ash. It was either Pikachu or Clefairy. And Clefairy was used in one of the other Pokemon mangas.

    I like Pikachu. It's cute, albeit not a strong Pokemon in battle. But still, I like it because it's a small cute companion. It's just a little friend. Battle, battle, battle. There are other things to think about in Pokemon. Sure, I wouldn't use Pikachu in battle because it's not all that strong, but yet I still don't hate the little guy.
     
    Ah you see.. apparently Pikachu was the first released Pokemon, there was another few, but game freak and Nintendo wernt happy with them, then they got Pikachu.

    And to answer the question,

    Pikachu is ok, but not my favorite electric (Favorite electric is Luxray) but yeah, 5/10
    I get him on LG and FR because you cant get a electric type for ages...
     
    i love pikachu. true, raichu is better battle wise. but pikachu is so cu-ute and spunky
