Can I Download a Nintendo ROM from the Internet if I Already Own the Authentic Game?

There is a good deal of misinformation on the Internet regarding the backup/archival copy exception. It is not a "second copy" rule and is often mistakenly cited for the proposition that if you have one lawful copy of a copyrighted work, you are entitled to have a second copy of the copyrighted work even if that second copy is an infringing copy. The backup/archival copy exception is a very narrow limitation relating to a copy being made by the rightful owner of an authentic game to ensure he or she has one in the event of damage or destruction of the authentic. Therefore, whether you have an authentic game or not, or whether you have possession of a Nintendo ROM for a limited amount of time, i.e. 24 hours, it is illegal to download and play a Nintendo ROM from the Internet.

im so going to jail sometime soon just for stealing games alone~ XD!!

the only games I buy are beatmania / ddr games that I have to import~ infact, I think the only legit stuff is my jps2 and jap bemani stuff

otherwise, i'm about to mod my american PS2 soon with an hdloader and a 120gb harddrive :33

I have nearly a full spindle of cds of full games, and then I have 25 gigs of roms / iso's on my computer~

If you cant tell, I support that piracy stuff. :3

I'm also going to buy one of those gba flash linker things for gba soon. While the concept is totally wrong, I dont need to pay for games if I can just get them alternatively. :3

I somewhat treat roms and the such like mp3's~ I dont own all 54655476543 mp3s on my computer either! XD

If you dump your own ROM's, whch I'm quite capable of doing, it's legal.
So yes, I do play emulated games.

Btw, why bother with HDloader, when the DMS3 chip can do anything it can, and more?

Playing on an emulator has so many benefits too! Speed, save states, sprite ripping, emailing saves, copying saves? @_@;

Im through with mod chipping on the ps2, I completely suck at soldering~ I've tried chipping my american ps2 a few times and all of them were unsuccessful. So, screw that. Besides, the HD loader concept just seems easier in my mind, because I can just like, swipe a friends game and save it to my harddrive instead of going through all that ripping and burning crap. it saves cd-r/dvd-r's, too. which I need for other things. :>

i have no problem with roms and such infact i think i have all of the nes games on a cd for dreamcast :D i have maybe 10 real games with 100+ games that are copied or are roms
